Mortal Kombat is an arcade fighting game developed and published by Midway Games in 1992 as the first title in the Mortal Kombat series. It was subsequently released by Acclaim Entertainment for nearly every home video game platform of the time.
The game introduced many key aspects of the Mortal Kombat series, including the unique five-button control scheme and gory finishing moves. The game focuses on the journey of the monk Liu Kang to save Earth from the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung, ending with their confrontation in the tournament known as Mortal Kombat. Mortal Kombat became a best-selling game and remains one of the most popular fighting games in the genre's history, spawning numerous sequels and spin-offs over the following years and decades, beginning with Mortal Kombat II in 1993, and together with the first sequel was the subject of a successful film adaptation in 1995. However, it also sparked much controversy for its depiction of extreme violence and gore using realistic digitized graphics, resulting in the introduction of age-specific content descriptor ratings for video games.

It's missing a lot of sounds and voice samples, but I love that music. Great work by Matt Furniss, one of the finest game music makers.

Screw the SNES version, at least on the Genesis version you have the ability to turn on blood

This is my childhood in fall 1993 playing this game we used to call goro monster and shang tsung master but we never reach them
Time has not been kind to this port, or this game, though the arcade version is still quite playable today.
At the very beginning, instead of skipping/missing/forgetting, you were really supposed to promise to remember to think twice about turning on/entering the blood code, "ABACABB" at the Code of Honor screen this way for once.
Thanks for sharing! Brought me back like 30 years! LOL.

No blood code? Why? I suppose it IS funny to see Kano stealing everyone's nokia cell phone instead of ripping out their heart.
Other than that, awesome, my favorite version of MK 1 and 2 are one the genesis mostly due to the music.

@@tonybanks1035 Same here. Even with the blood code, the Genesis port doesn’t do the game any justice. The fatalities are just watered down cheap knockoffs of the arcade version. The butchered out of order soundtrack and crappy sound fx & voices don’t help either.
Same with the Genesis port of MK2.

1 thing I like about this version of the game is its music (probably the same as in DOS version). The music in SNES and even Arcade versions sounded so bland.

sc30002001 the blood code was not entered. Without it they only do edited kid friendly versions of their fatalities

Um I think the game developers made a mistake because raiden's name is spelled wrong
No Stupid They Just Replace Raiden With A Y Because Of The Tecmo Game Named Raiden So They Spelled Rayden But His Raiden Is Still Referenced In Other MK Games

I’m sorry but Shang tsungs difficulty is laughable...I loved fighting him but he was easier than even shinnok mk4. Atlesst there his difficulty was normal but Shang tsungs was easy he just kept walking to you to be beaten 😂 mk1 is so laughable in difficulty but they changed that around in mk2s dark gameplay
