I use to beg my Mom to take me to Blockbuster Video every Friday night and this was one of the many games in my video game rental rotation. I use to absolutely love this game.
As soon as I heard the intro music from the opening title my brain was injected with the reminiscence of a memoir of ages past.. How life changes in 20 years.
I remember this game making all sorts of headlines for all the blood. I went to a catholic elementary and when word got around about the violence it was on. Every kid who had a Sega or SNES had this game by Christmas morning.
Brings back memories. I was part of that c64 era when in some games you had 1 life only, no saved points and you sometimes literally had to memorise random game interjections and literary take 10+ hrs solid to beat a game. Loved this game and it was so. Difficult but competed it. I. Think gamers have it far to easy now, what with all the saving, walthroughs, cheats etc.
I like how in the ED-209 boss battle they created a feeling of real randomness from the thing - it was hard to tell when it was just taking a lunging step forward or when it was going to commit to charging all the way across the screen. That's rare in a game from this era.

Skynet's fresh off the assembling line T-800s is only good for hunting plain humans and as Robfinlay pointed out: sometimes they even fail against that. That slow bot walk Murphy does is mostly for comedy and film limitations; if that is what your line of reasoning was. Robo could not take all of Skynet single handed as he is in this game, but a coordinated assault with Connor & Tech-Com would be a glorious thing to see.

But I guess that’s how a good movie COULD be made, with robocop being with the good guys as underdogs against skynet. And the only reason why Sarah And John Connor ‘survived’ the Terminators because they actually had a lot of help - from basically the father of the resistance (Kyle Reece) and skynet itself! (Reprogrammed Terminator). I see your called Kyle too. Cool name by the way 👍🏼

This looks much grittier than the SNES game. The sounds of the guns and explosions also sound way better here than on the SNES. Genesis does what Ninendon't 🤪🤙
One of the best fucking best Sega Mega Drive Games ever, the music for this game was just amazing. Best gun was the laser that would kill terminators with one shot like it teleports them Back then it was awesome Streets of Rage 1 and 2 etc
This was a really decent game that people seem to forget existed on the Genesis. Controls were buttery and responsive, graphics were gory and awesome, music was catchy as Hell and used the Genesis sound chip pretty effectively. I especially love the tune a 6:41, it's like something from NBA Jam
Just to be clear, those enemies Murphy was shooting in the beginning - the ones that were exploding into blood all over the place - were resistance fighters. If that was a Skynet future, then all humans are his enemy, meaning that our Detroit cyborg cop had to plow through people in a big misunderstanding to get through to the actual Terminators.
Pretty sure those are supposed to be detroit criminals. Dont forget this game is a universes collide kind of thing, so you can expect to see elements from both franchises

I tried this on Killer Mode sometime back but got too carried away with shooting everything in sight that I cocked it up, lol. Well played and good review, too :)

Nice. I beat this game too back in 6th or 7th grade it was. Took me a whole ass weekend to do so. I never shut me SG off. I always told everyone Skynet was a big ass floating Terminator head. Now to all the friends who didn't believe me can now know. No game genie either. I was poor growing up. My mother wasn't going to Kop me that as a kid no matter how much I begged her for it. 😂
There is a trick for the last boss: go close to him (with ED209 weapon), if you touch him and you are at the good distance, he should give you items. After 60 sec of firing, he will die...

During the actual time this was relevant i always thought the crossover was such a shameless cash-in and o rejected Everything about it (the comics,the games,the reviews even . Id never even seen a screenshot and i was a huge sega enthusiast i had over 100 games. Talk about "ideals" man the 90s were weird. Remember people were scared to be called a sell-out? God forbid you were in a band and actually wrote a catchy song that was good and wanted to get played on the 📻 radio! Oh and forget about ever selling it to a commercial! Wow !? For titanium/steel endoskeletons the terminators sure dissolve into a suspicious amount of red goo... Oh, wait... Robo is just indiscriminately butchering anything that moves, truely the darkest timeline. Seems like he could've just put his hands up and kept walking, the resistance would have stopped shooting at him. But then again, they were wearing 90s clothing in 2077, so maybe Robo joined the Fashion Police?
The boss battle against ED-209 takes to damn long to finish. I got to the boss with only the regular gun. And I thought it was a bug, because it took forever to kill him. The game is fun, but lacks polish.
What bothers me about this game is that regardless of finding all of the secret levels, including the 3 secrets in the very fist level and even the secret level in the secret level (not sure how to explain it), the difficulty you play it on, etc... there's no ending. Has anyone ever gotten an ending to this game other than "Congratulations, have you found all of the Secret Levels?" Fantastic game, definitely one of my favorites, but has anyone had any luck with actually getting an ending to the game?

Hands down one of the best looking genesis games. Still looks great.

The ED-209 cannon is one of the weaker weapons in the game, so I preferred to keep hold of the 3-way cannon.
