(Hence winning a record 4th RWC) If anything the world should never complain about it they should learn and come up with countermeasures.
There was an article on Rugby Pass which pointed out that the 7-1 split is incredibly flawed. It became popular after the win over an under experienced and 14 player NZ team. But that article pointed out that if NZ have a full complement and fully experienced team, then the 7-1 looks troubling, especially with no experienced hooker among the 7. As we saw tonight, Ireland with a standard 5-3 split did better against the "All New" second half pack... Plus the lack of a specialist backup Hooker hurt South Africa. Plus, the HIA, halfway through the first half for Garry Ringrose showed the benefit of having more than one replacement back...
What game did you watch? You do realize the Springboks missed 11 points through missed kicks. Had they kicked those, they would have comfortably beaten Ireland. The 11 points missed through kicking are not the fault of the 7-1 split. The Springboks goalkicking sucks at this World Cup. They only have a 48% conversion rate, which is the worst of all the nations at the World Cup. In this game it was only 20%. The second half is when Ireland got squeezed. After the first half Ireland was leading the possession and territory stats you can look it up, that all changed in the second half and the Springboks dominated those stats. What safed Ireland is the fact that the Springboks played a very strange game. They had five players in their 23 that can play lock and they only started kicked for attacking lineouts with just over ten minutes in the game left. Why pick five locks if you are going to kick for goal with kickers that has a 48% conversion rate? It is stupid as hell but you can't blame the 7-1 split for the stupidity of the leaders in the team. Unfortunately, it was bad decision-making by the leaders in the team. It is simple the Springboks will not win the World Cup without a kicker. If they find one, they will be my favorites to win the World Cup.

It's not my job to education the presenters of why South Africa can do the 7-1 split. It only high risk if you have two injury and which is the same risk you will face with 5-3 split if your bench players is seen is second best. South Africa bench is like for like players. This still does not mean that South Africa will win the GAME. This is the second biggest GAME of the RWC.
