Before retiring l worked 8 years in the public service, my wife did similar & it sounded like easy street and it was. However, for the first time l encountered nonsense, being told or asked to do quite clearly stupid things, sometimes this escalated to being mandated to do them. Being "normal" for so long and not yet institutionalised, l'd refuse. There is a very dangerous idealogy that has infested politics and the public service, it's established from the top, downwards, with very few having the gumption to speak out, for fear of being seen as disruptive, not a team player etc. The private sector remains "normal" and l think they have woken up and the tide is now turning. I do hope so. Another great vid. 👍
There is dangerous negativity in the UK at the moment. People are consumed with anger, despair and frustration. And it’s going to get a lot worse. A way of life which we have known and enjoyed even with its ups and downs is gone forever.
Good Morning Dave , Wow very interesting vlog today , i know that if i was 40yrs younger i would not be in this country any more as it has gone to the dogs , this is not the country i was born in , so take care & ride safe Dave
Yea' I'm subscribed to an Englishman's channel who resides in Bulgaria. He's been there now over 20 years. Looks like he made a wise decision all these years ago. He sure exercised good insight. Cheers!!
From America - I’m one of those who writes the “academic papers” you mentioned. :-) Same thing you describe exists here in the US, obviously. There are many reasons, they are well studied and broadly understood. What is frustrating is that, probably for the first time in my academic career, understanding a problem doesn’t not help much in crafting a solution. Perhaps it has always been the case that there are no “fixes” for big social ills and that each individual must, simply, decide to do better themselves. In any event, while my bikes does not point me in the direction of a solution, it does allow me to focus on myself and think about how I might be a better father, husband, friend, neighbor, and citizen. Thanks for the vlog. Happy Holidays.
One of the most honest, and in my view, correct account of the human condition I’ve heard in many years. This is not new, and has been so, probably, since we came down from the trees. Thank you for posting, I whole heartedly agree with you. The sad thing is, I do not believe this is a condition, that as a species, we will ever be able to change. It is an endemic part of our lives. A remarkable and poignant video, my respect to you sir.
The decision Is up to us, the people, to take back our rightful power, It is our duty to do so when we have a tyrannical controlling bunch of morons!. This is not the way our lives were meant to be lived . The question is, when will we have the balls to do it!. The answer is, when we have learned to unite, not to be divided by other issues invented by the so-called elites!, to cause mayhem, which is our present state of affairs!. Therefore, United we stand - divided we fall.
Brilliantly worded and well thought out as ever, totally agree with the sentiment, sadly we seem to be witnesses to the resurgence of rabid popularism in all it's nefarious guises. Thanks for holding a torch in the gathering darkness, it's nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks this way, keep up the good work 👍.
As I started watching your presentation I was immediately drawn to the advertisement I’d seen before prior to viewing, that for some incredulous cheap simple heater that portends to heat my entire house for pennies. Anyone with a basic knowledge of science understands that this is total rubbish, an un-truth. If society accepts that this type of misleading information is acceptable, it’s no wonder that conspiracy theories are now also seen by many as possible truths. As much as I enjoy watching your Dales rides and the escape they provide, your taking this time to talk about our age of un-truths is necessary. Lying has become the norm as government and mainstream media can, unfortunately, be no longer relied upon. As others have mentioned, it’s up to us to take back our power and put an end to the all pervading nonsense!
I am a retired Solicitor and echo your thoughts on capital punishment entirely. Whenever I drive to te M62 from Rishworth and pass the lay by where Lesley Moleseed was murdered I think of her and Klishko and that terrible injustice. Thank you for reminding us. P.S. That tip of glue on finger came in very useful this week, again thanks.
Politics is the business of avoiding some truths, telling half truths and sometimes (frequently?) telling outright lies to make the sour medicine taste better. There are almost always sufficient people who will believe it.
thanks for giving serious thought to something serious. i think that one of the problems of modern politics and modern media is that they seek to divide rather than unite us. i think most people are amazingly honest and kind, but politics have been degraded and the media too and it affects all of us. we have to hold on to traditional values like looking after each other, being kind, and being as truthful as we can manage - as you say everyone lies at times, but historically havent made a career out of it. if each of us tries to do our best as i think you are doing, things will look up, but we want an end to hate politics and that extends now beyond howling for capital punishment to things like be nasty to refugees and people on benefits. thanks for your efforts, peter
Good morning, that is heavy in a November, dark one. But sadly you are right. I realized in the 80 th that this a plan for money and power. So, there is only one option, go out and ride your bikes, as weather lets you. By the way, I have to go into the garage with a coffee and talk to the bikes, so they do not feel so useless in that time....😂
The word ‘think’ is used loosely. In most cases this is actually lazy generalisation…..people don’t think, they seek out opinions which confirm their own prejudices.
Only it's the other way around in western 'democracies'. Look at the big backers of Trump and the UK Tories - new barons. They pay massive donations because they want things. They then let their 'news' papers and websites push that message too. That is who is actually in power - your Sky and X captains. They call the shots. All the BS about ridding ourselves of unelected officials... people fell for it, lol, but that was just government seeing just how daft people really are, for a laugh.
Excellent as usual. The ride was superb. The monologue equally so. These are certainly interesting times and history shows the wheel is always reinvented it seems.
On the other hand if someone always tells the truth they will have no friends and even their families will hate them. "Does my bum look big in this?", "what do you think of my driving?" etc and etc.
If someone asks me if their bum looks big in this , & what I think of their driving , I tell them their bum always looked big & I don’t think much of their driving . 😎
We have the _once bitten, twice shy_ problem. Trust has been abused and, once trust is lost, it is nearly impossible to win it back. Snopes is *usually* the best place to fact check something. As to the Death Penalty, I wholly agree with you.
The way to love anything is to realize that it may be lost. " G K CHESTERTON " Sadly this famous quote from CHESTERTON appears to ring true today, as we watch our Country fall into the hands of Intellectual Darkness.
Very thought provoking vlog Dave of which I agree. Invariably, the further up the career tree you climb the more you encounter injustice and usually with more far reaching consequences. Politically, nationally and religiously looking at those you are not allowed to criticize without consequence are usually at the top of the tree........imho of course.
Spot on. To the flip side, our society here in the states sometimes swings in the other direction whereby some guilty ones are set free only to cause more harm again. A tough row to hoe.
I am afraid it's a common problem lots of places, here in DK we traditionally have a heig level of trust in law and order, police, and public service in general , unfortunately it is falling rapidly, supported by a lot of scandals , people are losing trust in the system. 🤔
I had expected the case of Derek Bentley to be mentioned. Similar in many aspects except Bentley was hanged despite plea by jury of clemency, as his mental age of 10 and his. accomplice actually committed the crime.
On one hand, we put a high value on life. Society would be better off eliminating killers rather than institutionalizing them. But then the problem is accurately identifying them as killers. On the other hand, we put a low value on life. "Good people" doing selfish things that risk the lives of others... As bikers, we are often the "others". Happy holidays.
You are right in my opinion on most of your comments. Trying to thread your say through this life is a true skill. It is not a free life, but a life of conformity, if you arnt to fall foul of the regime. There are only different regimes, wherever you may live. All around you have their own agendas, especially in the workplaces. In my opinion, if you are a good person, you can only try to do the right thing in life according to your concence. Here endeth todays lesson.
Thankyou sir, i agree with you 100%, as usual you are spot on in your reflections. If there really is a supreme being who watches over us then he or she only has the power of life or death over us, if we as individuals take a human life eithr accidentally or on purpose the we will answer for it when we ourselves finally leave this plane of existense. Just my thoughts on youe excellent piece, thankyou & please have a very very merry christmas & happy new year, looking for'rd to next years rambles on your most excellent steeds, ric, ontario canada, we just rec'd about 2 ft of snow as an early christmas present, sort of hampered mc enjoyment for a bit, at least until the roads are clear & mostly dried. Bye now.
I have come to the conclusion that governments (of whatever political ideology) have as their principle aim the protection and presevation of the powers of the State and not the empowerment of the general population. If you keep that in mind when looking at the motivations of governments you will be much more difficult to manipulate.
I always say that humans have gotten far about technology but not about society. We still live like serfs (as in the Middle Age or even 2500 BC Pharaoh's Egypt) and still have the same kind of stupid avoidable wars for imperium that made the Kadesh battle happen about 1274 BC, wich means 3000 years ago. We haven't evolved an inch from that time on social, politics, or just common sense. We still have 'Pharaohs', we still have slaves, we still have wars, we just changed pyramids for space exploration, and big corporations.
In the early days I have been raised to believe that people are inherently good! but life has shown me that they may well be in the minority. What surprises me the most is how we as a species have managed to last this long? I don't believe a any God's but this really is a miracle.
My mind has been changed on this... I believed that technology was the answer. The case you refered to was 50 so years ago and tech has changed since then. You even said that technological advancements changed the verdict in your exmple. BUT there was two points that changed my mind. 1, would a reintroduction of capital punishment reduct further crime? If thats a no then my main reason for introducing it is redundant. 2, humans a flawed and would inevitably abuse such a punishment with the out come of innocent individuals loosing their life. Morally unacceptable. That said murder is on the increase crime in general is on the increase with an ever increasing burden on prisons and the tax payer.
Honesty is the only thing I can keep hold of and take to my grave, shame lots don’t care. Motorcycling is my therapy an escape if you will, does anyone else find that they talk to themselves while riding?
Good post. There is a price to pay for climbing the greasy pole. You keep your mouth shut and look the other way if you see something embarrassing. Mohamed Al-Fayed's lieutenants must be sweating right now. The Post Office's senior team was made to sweat but I'd like to see them prosecuted & held financially liable. That's why I prefer the (financially) poorer option of being entirely independent. But as regards the latest squabble re. the Labour Party's promise not to raise taxes: for anyone stupid enough to believe they could deliver their grandiose promises without a huge tax hike, you deserve your disillusionment. Stupidity enables duplicity.
Another monologue sermon. I'm sorry, I got nine minutes through and had to call it. The juxtaposition of lovely landscape and capital punishment was enough for me - considering I actually thought it was going to be Guzzi related. At the risk of being a possible outlier...it seems that every bike channel is doing this to a greater or lesser degree. Here's a thought, don't. Most of us are fully aware of the world around us and its problems, on all fronts, and we have our misgivings of course. I'd rather come here to learn about motorcycles, as it affords me a brief distraction, instead I am reminded of the things I want to take a moment away from.
Totally agree with you Jim, it has become a bit of a trend of late. I have a real interest in politics and social affairs and am involved in other platforms but motorcycling has always been an escape. I don’t reflect on this stuff when I’m out riding. It’s kind of the point, I’m in the moment and love it. I have no interest in what I would call ‘wannabe influencers’.
@nosek1d you got that right the evil primeminister and his government that we have today have got there because of the people who turn a blind eye to things
I don’t agree, but respect your viewpoint. The injustice in your story was the withholding of evidence to get a false conviction. If this type of corruption was subject to the same or higher sentence than that delivered due to the corruption it would surely focus the minds of those seeking to pervert the course of justice ? I don’t necessarily see a death sentence as a way of stopping the crime as you say it’s can’t be ‘ guaranteed ‘ as a deterrent. But why should a child murderer or someone who murders a member of the emergency services or health care services be funded at massive costs for the rest of their lives… when the country operates on a basis of law and order and fairness….. we do this our government does that… we work abide by the law pay our taxes and we expect our contract of efforts to be honoured by an effective government which has to include a functioning and effective justice and prison system.
has this got anything to do with the control of media by a few and the resulting loss of journalism being able to expose and hold to account for me the miners strikes the brutal take down of the travellers round the same time ;media has always being controlled sometimes we have brief glimpse of this
Truer words never were spoke, as we say here stateside. I think you would feel much the same here in the US, land of billionaire demagoguery. Happy Thanksgiving anyway. Ride on!
You cant be referencing the fact that a certain individual (SKS) was head of the Public Prosecution Service during one of the worst Child Grooming scandals ever to happen in the UK along with tye complicity of Police and councils. Surely couldn't be referencing that!
Problems police lie, warrant you have one yes then they try coming in the house. Just a arrest warrant. Told them my junky lassie was not in the house then said he was calling me a liar still tried to get in the house. Put him out the door and called 999 and reported said a hole. My lassie was not in the house if the right warrant let him in. Big dog turned up and chased the numpty. I asked the guy in and said I do not lie you do.
It is unfortunate that most of the people here in the United States are not educated or intelligent enough to understand any of the concepts you have discussed here.... :(
Another cracking monologue. Keep up the good work Dave. Quality of your vlogs is spot on. What's your set up? Did you have ultra wide FOV on that ride. Sorry you may have done a vid on gear I will check on your channel. But if not you should do a tutorial. Cheers. BTW nice to see a summer ride out.
I agree with most of your points. I am curious as to why you've done this film at this time? I was unaware the death penalty was be rehashed in Parliament yet again? Is this a sideways glance at the assisted dying debate or is it just a "cold weather" topic to occupy a blog slot? Not critical of you - just trying to understand if there's a subtle message I'm missing???? Cheers
I don't remember WW3 being in the Labour manifesto. I don't remember our farmers being destroyed, or killing off our pensioners , or spending 3 times the pensioner savings to Ukraine each year forever. Thankfully the British Public are waking up. Hopefully Reform will sort things out in 5 years, if we are still alive.

To withhold the truth is to lie, further, it is lying to deceive.
What scares me most is the apathy. What's that saying, 'For evil to succeed, all that's required is for good men to do nothing'.
There is dangerous negativity in the UK at the moment. People are consumed with anger, despair and frustration. And it’s going to get a lot worse. A way of life which we have known and enjoyed even with its ups and downs is gone forever.

I remember this incident. I particularly remember feeling so sorry for Stefan's mother at the time. God bless them both.
Truth and love are the answers to what faces the people of this world.

Nice one Dave. I tend to ignore the news now, it's all just so biased. Politicians the same, really unimpressed with them...
Absolutely Sean I despair of all of them regardless of badge

Nice one Dave, very thought provoking
It's very difficult to get someone to understand something when their salary depends on them not understanding it. Modern Britain in a nutshell.
I agree totally with the injustices and care less attitude of our present political party ...liars 😞
Politics is the business of avoiding some truths, telling half truths and sometimes (frequently?) telling outright lies to make the sour medicine taste better. There are almost always sufficient people who will believe it.
Generally, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

What a reasonably balanced view for a change.
Bedankt
Thank you sir that’s very kind and very much appreciated 😊👍🏻
Beautiful scenery. 😍
😎😍❤️
An unusual subject matter (driven as you said on a previous video by the weather!) but I'm on the same page!
You can still travel a beautiful road like that though.

Most of us are fully aware of the world around us and its problems, on all fronts, and we have our misgivings of course.
I'd rather come here to learn about motorcycles, as it affords me a brief distraction, instead I am reminded of the things I want to take a moment away from.
This channel is clearly not for you. Move along please, nothing to be seen here for you.
Goodbye@@Mikethebike721
👍
@nosek1d you got that right the evil primeminister and his government that we have today have got there because of the people who turn a blind eye to things
If you want news that you can trust, I suggest people listen to the Duran .
We now have a viable third political party, let’s hope the people have the courage to break the mould.
None of them are competent to my mind
I don't believe anything a politician says, especially Labour ones.
I’m not sure what this has got to do with the Labour Party except that they abolished capital punishment.
That's very sad...or worse?
Another cracking monologue. Keep up the good work Dave.
Quality of your vlogs is spot on. What's your set up?
Did you have ultra wide FOV on that ride. Sorry you may have done a vid on gear I will check on your channel. But if not you should do a tutorial.
Cheers. BTW nice to see a summer ride out.
Yes I’ll look at doing that…field of view super wide but not hyper
Agreed 🤔
I agree with most of your points.
I am curious as to why you've done this film at this time? I was unaware the death penalty was be rehashed in Parliament yet again? Is this a sideways glance at the assisted dying debate or is it just a "cold weather" topic to occupy a blog slot? Not critical of you - just trying to understand if there's a subtle message I'm missing???? Cheers
No not at all connected with the assisted dying bill which I actually do support in principle
👍👍👍
Where's that road chief ?
Pateley Bridge to Masham via Lofthouse and Leighton Reservoir
@@favourites96 Thank you Sir .
👍. We'll put.
Bull Shit
@richardbarton2709 it is Actually True 👍
Who fact checks the fact checkers?.... some are not quite what they seem and with AI appearing more common no one knows what or who to believe.... money talks
I love your motorcycle reviews but I had to turn this off !!
Most people enjoyed it 👍🏻
