Can't believe how little cheering there is when GC says "the world is pregnant...". I think I would have started crynig hysterically if I knew I were going to watch maggot brain live.
Ever hear Billy Strings,Marcus King or the new guitar hero Matteo Mancuso. No one plays like him,Doubt anyone ever will. He plays lead with this bass technique he’s come up with and he’s a jazz player. It’s just a beautiful thing.
What's frickin' awesome bro, is that I turned to my boy and said, "I hope they play Maggot Brain!" And it was the very next frickin' song they played!!!!!! Did you see me dancing with my white robe on during Atomic Dog? LOL!
Man, you've gotta understand that a cover isn't meant to replicate the original piece. It's a tribute, or the original song but as expressed by someone else. Think of it as a sentence spoken in a different language. It means the same, and the intention is good. Stop hating. If I had the guitarability, I would totally cover maggot brain myself. And you should also check out Warren Haynes' work. IMO he's one of the most powerfully soulful and talented guitarists of today.
what's even better, John recorded Before the Beginning somewhen at 4 am after a party. Hangover and shit. That must have been a hell of a trip for him.
Actually I'm pretty sure John does drink, there are wine bottles in the Past Recedes video. He was also smoking a cigarette in the Heart is a Drum Machine interview. And I'm pretty sure he smokes weed as well, I'm not 100% certain, but I read that somewhere. But he didn't record Before the Beginning after a party. He recorded it the morning after he listened to Maggot Brain with one of his friends. And he thought it would be cool to have something like that in the beginning of the album.
You should take a moment to check out Gov't Mule's covers of the song. No disrespect, only respect for the song, the performance and the band. I ask you to listen before you disrespect one of the greatest guitarists alive.
I dont think there is limit to how far you can go with the guitar solo on Maggot Brain. When I first heard it on the Radio in my car I said "WTF is this"?
technically, this is a tribute, as how many original Funkadelic musicians are in the band now? Michael Hampton is No.! In my opinion at it though, no doubt.
Michael Hampton is an original Funkadelic since 74, he was recluited for play note by note this song. He and Hazel were friends in the time cause Hampton admire him a lot.
@@spiralarips He played it note for note at audition. I grew up in Detroit in early to late 70's and by virtue of commercials on UHF TV, ventured to Cobo Hall to see the Mothership land. I thought Isley Bros. and J. Brown were musically cool, but P Funk blew me away. Like Zappa, Beefheart-light & King Crimson rolled into one. LEGENDS.
George Clinton need to go ahead and lay it down he's about as old as dirt you need to go ahead let the younger guys and Funkadelic do their thing what he just kick back and enjoy retirement
No you didn't.. Don't matter George's age, for funk will sit & sit & never go sour. If you were a true Funkateer you'd know that...sucka. Sober up dude.

Henry G. Thompson and you need to shut the fuck up
Funk is wot time it is ! George is a poet and a ringleader extraordinaire, not a musician...
George is the ringleader. Has been from the beginning. There ain’t no Funkadelic without him.
Yes she it's pregnant, it's throwing hell n tornados now.. 👺
