  • A review of the premium version of Wera's 1/4" drive Zyklop socket set. This is very similar to the 8100 SA 7 set that was previously reviewed, but has lots of additional accessories.

    To release a socket in the zero degree position simply press the head lock forward, as done to rotate the head, and this will push the socket release button

    your tool reviews are one of the best on all youtube. straight to the point, no yadda yadda,no bullshit; just simple clean and professional reviews. subscribed! regarding taiwan made: I have Connex sockets which are also made in taiwan. They are of excellent quality for the price they cost (3-7euros). Also my 1\2 and 1\4 cheapo wrenches (HM Mueller) are made in taiwan and do a great job. in fact they have finer gearing (sp?) than most european made wrenches. 2 years of heavy usage, no sign of damages (yet)

      Thanks for the kind words, I really do appreciate them. Yes, there are some good tools coming out of Taiwan, their quality seems to be getting better with time. Proxxon, which is a favorite among many people in Europe, is a German company that makes most of their tools in Taiwan.

    Steel cases most certainly are not more durable than plastic ones. Steel ones dent, deform, the paint chips, doesn't close properly after dented/dropped, the spot welds occasionally break, and it rusts. It also has to have a plastic/foam formed organizer inside, which gets ruined/broken. I was so happy when power tool manufacturers switched to plastic; they're so much more durable. We had so many loose tools that came in metal boxes that had to be recycled. Then you've got to find a new box for the tool and it's accessories.

    • @GermanToolReviews
      @GermanToolReviews  7 років тому

      I have recently changed my opinion on plastic cases after seeing one of Stahlwille's new ABS cases. They previously used all steel cases and their new cases are very nice. Look for a future review on a Stahlwille set.

    Excellent review. Looks like an excellent tool set. Nevertheless parts are made in Taiwan, other parts in Czech republic - that doesnt mean anything bad for the quality, but as a German I´m a bit annoyed.
    You are kinda like an expert - German tool review - is there anything on that tool set that is even made in Germany?
    Or is it the planning at least?
    Or is it just the brand name?

    • @GermanToolReviews
      @GermanToolReviews  7 років тому +4

      Wera is a German Brand, that is, it is a German Company. My general rule of thumb for tools I review are that they need to be from a German Brand and manufactured in the greater European Union. Wera does most of its manufacturing in the Czech republic, but does have some tools made in Germany. They also make some of their tools in the UK and in Poland. As far as this set, all the components are made in either the Czech Republic or Taiwan and then assembled in the Czech Republic.

    I've noticed a great deal of sockets are made in Taiwan. The quality seems very good to me, although I'm no mechanic. Do you have any insight as to why so many sockets are made in Taiwan?

    • @GermanToolReviews
      @GermanToolReviews  7 років тому +12

      No, I don't know why Wera and other companies choose Taiwan to manufacture their sockets. I know that there are many companies that choose Taiwan now over China such as Matco and Proxxon. From what I read, manufacturing in Taiwan is about 30% higher than China due to higher labor costs. One reason companies choose Taiwan over China is that they have very stringent IP/Patent laws so theft of designs and/or knockoffs are not as common as are seen in China.

    • @bloodymarvelous4790
      @bloodymarvelous4790 2 роки тому

      Stunned he got this wrong? Or stunned you need to do this?
      The switch you need to pull down to rotate the head can be pushed up when the head is at the 0 degrees position to release the sockets. So you don't need to rotate the head first.
      Also, there isn't a 105 degree position, but an 85 degree. The 105 wouldn't make any sense since you would have very little room to maneuver the ratchet, whereas the 85 degree allows you to use the ratchet without hitting your knuckles against whatever it is you're ratcheting into.

    2:42 you are using it incorrectly, the slices are there to lock te pin, so the handle form a 90+ angle to the socket not 90-. Hope it helps.
    I've got a similar set in a tough fabric pouch without the sliding bar, the cardan/universal join and 4 less sockets (wich are worth ~ 20-30$ and you normally already know) but longer bits and more of them for 65€. So yes, wera, hazet, facom... prices in the US are a scam as snap-on, MAC,... prices are a scam in Europe. So it's a great idea to take advantage of that if you travel or a related/fellow does.
    It's a great all-around kit, you rarelly need something that isn't there and the quality is great.

    I apologize if this question seems obtuse to you, but, alas, (except for Knipex) I know absolutely nothing about German hand tools. As keeping track of US made hand tools is already very time-consuming, I'd appreciate it very much if you would comment on the overall durability of German made tools, and I'd be particularly interested in knowing which German tool manufacturer makes the most durable socket sets ... and, of course, I'm only asking for your opinion ... I will not hold you to anything.

      I hope to do a test on durability at some point. Will probably be a destructive test by putting a bunch of sockets in a rock tumbler or something for a couple of days. @istvanmolnar7637 5 років тому +1

      Wera has nothing made in China, only Taiwan. So far only their sockets and the metal ratchets are made there. The engineering and quality control is still German, and that's what counts. Proxxon is a well-known quality tool brand and they have every hand tool made in Taiwan yet their QC only allows proper products for selling which led to them being repsected for their prices. Knipex's Rennsteig plant makes crimping pliers for Würth that is of even higher quality than made for Knipex itself, because Würth has better QC. As for the Czech Republic, you shouldn't have any fears, I buy most of my chemicals, electronics, and base material from them and the Polish, never had issues with them. Also the factory that makes these sets is Wera's own factory, not outsourcing like with the sockets for a Taiwanese local company. It is the same with here in Hungary, we have a Procter & Gamble production plant where the Oral B electric toothbrushes are made, they are made in Hungary yet many people use them because although it's Hungarian, it's P&G's own company. I have no issue in trusting Czech tools as long as a German QC is enforced over them. One example where this doesn't work is one of the Hungarian Bosch plants in Miskolc, the leadership there is a joke and Miskolc-made Bosch tools are quite rubbish due to their low QC, I would never buy a Bosch tool made there even though I'm Hungarian myself. Also you guys in America have import price problems, this exact set costs only 130 euros right now on the German Amazon, which is cheaper than a German-made Hazet or Gedore set. So yeah, here in Europe they aren't the best of the best, I have no idea how costs go that high for you. We get what we pay for. We can buy Snap-on sets for roughly 3 times the price for what you pay, it goes vice-versa, and I will never trust American tools until I tried them out as they actually have lots of tools made in China. Taiwan is slowly coming up as a proper production country, I know many Taiwanese tool brands and many of them are actually decent.

    $300 for a mostly Made in Taiwan set? Yikes. I can easily get a Made in USA set for less. My uncle told me there used to be a Hazet dealer nearby. @@ccmogs5757 No way, Stahlwille is like double the price if not more. Maybe not for you in America, but here in Europe you pay 130 euros for this set and 300+ for a Stahlwille one. Even GTR admits Stahlwille is out of his price range. What many Americans seem to miss is that Wera has strict quality control rules. Even Proxxon made a name for itself and they only have Taiwan-made hand tools. I agree with you on the part that it's not really a Made in Germany brand, but as long as QC is of German origin, I have no issues trusting them. I as a Hungarian can only say that Made in CZ is very close to made in Germany, and even some German-made tools can be crap, it's not a guarantee for quality. Even Stahlwille has tools made in other countries. Also the CZ plant is Wera's own factory, not an outsourced production. My friend once borrowed my small Wera bit ratchet to loosen a nut stuck in rust on his motorbike, the idiot even put a 1 meter cheater bar on it, and it still held up and broke the nut with the 8 mm socket and the Taiwanese little ratchet. Only a small surface dent in the chrome finish made by the pipe. That speaks for itself.

    Do not purchase wera tools, warranty process is terrible and they do not contact you back. Tools are good but warranty not worth the hassle, just buy stahlwille or hazet a little dearer but warranty service is excellent. I have purchased over $2500 of the products and even collecting all the calendars. I had one issue with a set which I only used 5 times and they ignored me. I would stick to a company who supports there clients.
