    jaret I just wanted to thank you again for all the videos you have made about track and field. I am now officially done with high school athletics and can say I reached my goal of going to States. at States I wasn't really feeling the race , (i had gotten 2 hours of sleep due to prom the night brfore, I didn't get to do any warm up over hurdles, and it was 90 degrees) but overall I think I defiantly will continue hurdling in college.again thanks for all your effort 👍☺

    Hey I am a 400m, 200m, and 100m runner my fastest times were 53 for the 400 , 24 for the 200, and 11.7 for the 100. I want to qualify for Junior Olympics this year and most of these kids are running 50 flat. How can I cut down a few seconds on my sprints. By the way I am 14.

    The thing about my stamina is it's temporary. What I mean by this is I can push myself for the first 280m but after that it's will power and I still win. However if I don't give much effort in the long stretch I can't push myself at the end.. That's why my coach calls me a sprinter hurdler, can only sprint my hurdles.

    • @biglilrichard
      @biglilrichard 7 років тому +1

      Yeah I'm the same, when I run 300 meter hurdles I can't do well at all unless I start off strong, I think it's because you can't really accelerate again, so you kinda just have to maintain that speed with will power at the end. I use my momentum to get over the hurdle efficiently, and I don't care much about where my steps land because I go over with either lead leg. It's the reason I'm not a great 100m hurdler, because I don't get space to really get the speed in between the hurdles, hopefully will become better when I move up to 110m hurdles because I'll have more space between hurdles

    • @MJT-DA
      @MJT-DA 7 років тому +1

      IKR and those last 100m stretch is what kills a lot of us since we got nothing at the end but will power. But like you said hurdles is all about momentum without it your going to come in last place

      Taijean Moodie the worst is the homestraight when its cold. i ran the 300mH in 5 degree celsius weather this year, and the homestraight completely killed me because my legs got even tighter than they usually do, theres that thing about Michael Johnson's push pace position pray, and i literally was praying at the last 75 meters. worst thing about track in Canada tbh

    Can you do a video that breaks down hurdle form? I'm a 400 hurdler, and my weakest part is my form, my best is only a 58.3 but I've run flat 400's in 50.5, I don't think there should be that large of a gap, I have the endurance for the hurdles, my technique is just awful, stuttering, jumping over the hurdles instead of gliding, it looks like each time I come off the hurdle I land too hard and come to a full stop, and my body is too erect when I hurdle (I don't have a good forward lean). Im a huge fan, thanks man!

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 років тому +2

      +Vasu Joshi For sure, I've got a bunch of other hurdle videos on my channel if you head over and check out the "Track and Field" playlist you'll see a few of them. I'd start with the "Advanced Hurdle Drills and Techniques" video to explain how to hurdle and show some drills. After that its just a matter of practicing it over and over again. Spend some time jogging over the hurdle at an easy pace until you can take it in stride into and coming off the hurdle and then slowly increase your speed.

      +Joshua Right on, yeah thats very common with track since there are often a lot of athletes and not a lot of coaches. That combined with the fact that the sport is very misunderstood in general creates a situation where there are a lot of athletes and coaches who don't understand how to run or coach so I figured it would be good to shed some light on the sport for you guys. Happy to know they are helping. Lots more coming!

      where I'm from it's:
      100mH grade 9: 33 inch
      100mH grade 10: 36 inch
      110mH 11+12: 36 inch
      300mH grade 9: 33 inch
      300mH grade 10: 33 inch
      400mH grade 11+12: 36 inch
      so the height and distance both increase from sophomore to senior from 300mH to 400mH

  • @kenziebollinger304
    @kenziebollinger304 8 років тому

    I run the 400 hurdles in college right now but having trouble with getting into a rhythm and counting my steps. Do you count the lead leg that touches down over the hurdle as step #1 or the trail leg as the first step when you count your 15 steps between each hurdle? Also, for collegiate women, about how many steps between each hurdle would you say would be the correct amount? 17?

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 років тому

      +Kenzie Bollinger The trail leg is step number 1. Don't worry about how many steps people are "supposed" to take. Just figure out the step pattern that works for your height and speed. Finding the correct step pattern will make a world of difference in the race so apply the principles that I talk about in this videos and your times will come down.

    hey I'm a guy hurdler in high school (junior)but I'm short I run decent 1:05 for the 400 and 17.8 for 110 but being 5'5" really buffers my abilitys what should I do hope to get taller? stop it all together or just get faster running abilities

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 років тому +2

      +Anther G the 110's are going to be tough at that height but the intermediates should still be doable. Bershawn Jackson is 5'6 and he runs a 44 sec 400 meter and 47 sec in the 400 hurdles. So just focus on getting in better shape, improving your running form and getting stronger in the gym. I've go videos for all of those things on my channel so head over and take a look at the track and field playlist.

    +Jaret Campisi I looked at film of my run for the 400m and I need improvement on the last 100. What workouts can I do to improve that?

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 років тому

      +Dewayne Martin Sometimes its just a matter of you not executing a race plan correctly for the shape you're in. Could be you're not conserving enough energy during the first half of the race which is causing you to die on the homestretch. Also, no matter how good of shape you're in, everyone feels like crap in the last 50-100 meters so that's a pretty normal thing. Specific workouts to work on that stuff should really be done in the beginning of the season or even in the off season. They are things like 600's, 500's, repeat 400's etc. If you check out my "How to run a faster 400 meter dash" it will help shed some light on this topic as well.

    Hey I know this isn't the right video, but I'm 15 years old and I'm pretty slow. My 100m time is 12.62 and my 200m time is 27.1. I feel as if my 200m time is especially bad, and I'm really looking forward to increasing my time to around 26.0 within a week. I sort of realize why I'm running so slow on my 200m and that's because I'm trying to sprint 100% all 200. Now since I've watched your video on the 200m I realize that there are many phases in this event, and my main flaw is that I get gassed in the last 75 meters. So basically what I need to do is 'master' the "floating" phase but I don't really understand what you mean by floating phase, can you please further describe that phase? Thanks! :)

      +Goko hey buddy. Sure I'll try to help ya out. The floating phase is basically just a part in the race where you're no longer "pushing" to go fast. You are just maintaining the speed you've built up to that point as easily as possible. So however that feels to you, where you can still run almost just as fast as you were but while conserving energy, thats what you need to learn how to do and for how long in order to give you enough energy to finish the race strong.
