Based on your reviews I just purchased a pair of Mackie CR5s and a CR8-S sub.
I am literally petrified how good the sound is. But the sub is a must for rock/metal/country.
(and at least an external soundcard if you use it connected to a PC like me)
No worries about loudness, it plays well on lower volumes if needed.

Jbl hands down. Witch was not to my delight, I'm a big mackie fan. Just a crisper cleaner sound. Even though I still think the mackie controls lower tones better.

Both sound very similar. With the JBL, the tweeters have an advantage due to the horn Design.

Don't get me wrong, I have a Zoom H4n Pro and the mic used seems more than decent, but having everything compressed with youtube kinda defeat the purpose! That being said, I feel like the JBL are somewhat thinner.

The JBL's are clearly superior. I'm wondering how the $200 Mackie 8" Sub would perform paired with the JBL's. I don't really want to spend $300-400 on the 10" JBL sub right now, when I have to use headphones most of the time anyway.

Wish I had better speakers to listen to this through man I am so torn between these two speakers I've heard the JBL in person but keep trying to find out if they are worth paying the extra price over the Mackie ! Use would be for a personal listening and mixing on a DJ controller at home maybe to expand with a little production and editing in the future

In another review of the JBLs, it was mentioned that you can hear the hiss from the tweeters, with no music, when used as desktop speakers. Did you noticed that?

Yes. It is a typical occurance for active monitors. Mackie has even more of that though

When I have jack on one side does it matter what will be on the other? And what's better, jack xlr or rca?

RCA wont do balanced output which shouldnt really matter anyways... the signal is getting through regardless, but for ultimate high end u might want to think about balanced inputs

Mackies handle the lows a lot better. Dig the jbl’s for rock and roll stuff, though.
