  • In this week’s podcast Dr Louise is joined by Dr Mary Claire Haver, an obstetrics and gynaecology doctor and a menopause specialist in the US. Dr Louise and Dr Mary Claire discuss the challenges of ensuring all women have access to evidence-based information and treatment, and their hopes for change.
Dr Mary Claire shares her three tips to help menopausal women improve their health:
    1. Really focus on your nutrition. Make sure you're getting adequate fibre in your diet every day. Fibre-rich goods are good for you gut microbiome, help you stay full for longer, and are good sources of vitamins, minerals and nutrients.
    2. Limit added sugars - those that are added in cooking and processing - to less than 25g per day. Women who do that consistently have less visceral fat. Visceral fat is tied to increased risk of chronic inflammatory diseases.
    3. Don't just focus on cardio for your movement. You really need to keep your muscles strong so at least two days a week pick up some weights. Multiple studies in menopausal women show much better outcomes for osteoporosis with resistance training.

Shocked to hear only 4% of menopausal women in the U.S are on HRT. I am so grateful to these two wonderful doctors trailblazing the imortant work on behalf of women's wellbeing ❤

Oh my goodness, forty percent down to four percent in the USA? The WHI headlines did a fantastic number on women and doctors 😢
If only the same could happen in reverse now, to help us instead? Big Pharma doesn't profit from medical students being trained in nutritional health or menopause health, as that would mean better prevention and greater wellness.
Thank you so much Drs Newson and Haver, you are doing so much to move the needle in the right direction for women's health and wellbeing 💛💛xx

Great to see two female clinicians willing to collaborate towards improving women's health globally. Love that an obgyn doctor is interested in this health field due to specialism and that a GP who sees all health fields in general. Both have so much to contribute to it. Dr Haver and Dr Newson are well known now because of their knowledge and professional and personal experience in women's health. Thank you both for your work and sharing it with each other and in social media.

I’m so blessed to live in Australia where it’s cheap & sometimes free to see a doctor regardless of insurance

i'm getting tired of letting Drs off the hook because of their adherence to antiquated information - it's their JOB to keep up with important information and help us! Especially ob-gyns.

Just like to thank you for your past and ongoing videos. My wife has been on HRT for about 7 months and has helped her a great deal but in conjunction with that these videos have been a great help for her and especially for me to understand what she (and others) are going through. We’re in Canada and your videos seem to be the most informative and easy to listen to that we’ve found.
Thanks Again keep up the good work!

@@cearilindubhlaoi9507 thanks for your reply. Her GP won’t do it but thinking of seeing a menopause specialist to see if they can help her. I know many woman are on it 70 + but believed starting it at that age was the issue?
