I am 68. I begged, begged and begged for HRT. I wasn't sleeping, and I went bald. I was refused repeatedly because "it won't help much and the risks are too high." I took in print-outs of the actual research - which I am positive ended up in the trash. So, yeah. It's really upsetting to find out that, at 68 and 15 years post-menopause, I'll never be able to recapture the protective effects of the therapy I was denied. Definitely getting your book, Dr. Haver, so I can figure out what to do about it now!
I feel your pain sister! That almost happened to me. But luckily I was able to finally find someone to listen. I even went to a so-called "menapause specialist" who promptly took me off the estrogen my previous doctor had given me. So I was without estrogen for a couple of years until I felt so miserable that I literally broke down in front of my obgyn, who agreed to put me back on estrogen. Now, with an appointment coming up tomorrow, I am afraid she is going to try and take me off them. I'm going to be 63.
@@debgilbert3206 Just because it's "Natural" doesn't make it healthy! This is a real bigotry problem. If you are low in testosterone, they supplement with testosterone. If you are low in thyroid, doctors give you thyroid. But if you're low in female hormones, suddenly the risks are too high!? It's outrageous, Deb. I'll keep you in my prayers.
Same thing happened to me. I was offered valium before estrogen! Finally I got referred to one of the top Drs in Australia (professor Eden) who treats women (even those with cancer) who are on HRT. He said he wants to sue the authors of the 2002 study that said HRT was too dangerous for women. He said it was a very badly designed study and it is STILL impacting women negatively. But general physicians still abide by it.
Only half way through video but don’t want to forgot to comment on some things for clarification. First, she’s doing a pretty good job of explaining things overall 👏🏻 I’ve been treating Menlo and perimeno women for over 25 yrs so she has more time to fine tune and learn. 1. Progesterone and progestin are NOT the same thing. Progesterone is what the body makes and is needed for fertility. Progestin tricks the brain into thinking you are pregnancy so you don’t ovulate. 3. Oral contraceptives with progestin prevent pregnancy. Progesterone helps pregnancy. 4. Oral contraceptives reduce ovarian cancer because it stops ovulation and activity of ovaries 5. Compounding pharmacies are NOT unregulated. They must follow compounding regulations. The reason why conventional docs are still poo pooing compounding pharmacies is indoctrination. When WHI study came out and MDs pulled all their HRT, Wyeth (makers of Premarin and prempro) lost an enormous amount of $$$$. Since then BigPharma has been in a mission to crush compounding pharmacies in a variety of ways WITH the help of the FDA (FDA is funded >45% from big Pharma as high as 75%) 6 related to above: as MDs stopped hormones, women turned to compounding pharmacies for their bio identical Hormones. 7 Progestin was what increased cancer risk the MOST in the WHI study not progesterone. 8 outside of US, estriol is frequently used. It is an estrogen that does not have metabolites that can turn into more carcinogenic estrogens in individuals with predisposition to metabolize estrogens with more difficulty. Estriol also has studies on bone density, brain health including impact on patients with MS (multiple sclerosis) 9 You will likely not hear about estriol on US because it can NOT be patented. No bio identical molecule can be patented or “approved by the FDA”. Estradiol is bio identical BUT the delivery system of a patch is patented and so FDA can approve it. Don’t be mislead by BigPharma on something being safe or unsafe because of the FDA. Most consumers do not know the nuances I briefly mentioned above. Lastly, because I can’t put 25 yrs into a post, estriol vaginal cream is excellent at promoting vulvar health (climax, elasticity, moisture) and does not bind strongly to breast tissue like estradiol does. (FYI Im not against estradiol and do use it. There is just a lot more to hormone therapy.) Again, she has done a great job in this video educating women about hormones 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 And excuse all of the typos!
This is unbelievable. Dr Haver is a miracle worker. Can’t thank her enough. I’m lucky that nearly everything she said , my female doctor told me. Only a month ago. I’ve just started HRT at 55. The sad thing is my previous female doctor who retired 4 months ago told me NOTHING about HRT. Even when I questioned her. Just really proves, not all doctors can help you with female issues. Sometimes you need to do your own research. And women need to talk to each more about menopause. It shouldn’t be a taboo subject anymore. Thank you so much.
I had a collapsed vertebrae at the age of 40. Went to a neurosurgeon and he told me I have the bones of a 60 year old. No one spoke to me about the connection with menopause. Now at 45 I realised I am perimenopausal, and only now finding out about the correlation. All drs need to know this. That neurosurgeon should have told me to get my obgyn to put me on hrt.
Not close to menopause, but I’m really loving this discussion. Feels like women are just supposed to be quiet and endure the difficult effects of menopause on their own once they’re no longer in their childbearing years. Hard not to feel that this lack of education and research is misogynistic.
I feel so blessed with all this information ( that’s come my way in the last 5 years) from all these phenomenal, female doctors on UA-cam and their insight has made me a happy, healthy and vibrant 50 something woman. I lift weights ( resistance training) eat a great diet (free of overly processed foods ) and I’m on bio identical hormones! Life can be sooooooo great in your second half!❤
I am 36 years old and this information is INCREDIBLE!!! I want to be informed as I get closer to this transition. I’m going to share this with ALLL my friends!!!
@@ms.t8313 it took me 1 year to get balanced until then I lost 10 pounds, for example my estradiol is 200 and progesterone 20 , progesterone has to be 10% of your estradiol to be balanced , it takes a lot of patience and of course I am eating healthy and working out 3 or 5 days a week . But before being balance I was eating healthy and working out and was not able to lose any pound .
I have been on HRT (Pill Form) Estrogen and Progesterone for 14 years. I started as soon as my period ended. I feel great being on it. I'm now 63, and my skin looks like I'm 45. It does make a difference in how you feel AND how you look. The best way to find out what your body needs is to have your hormones checked through bloodwork. Then your doctor will know the exact dosage to give you.
I am 61 now and had a hysterectomy in 2016. I can't tell you how IMPORTANT this information is for women. My doctor took me off of estradiol because of the "risks". I had no idea what the estradiol meant to my system. I am in a fog, I can't think, I can't sleep, hot flashes. Personally, I lost half the volume of my hair. This is all so heartbreaking. I have begged my doctor to keep me on estradiol. She has me on a tiny dose that she will not refill. I did my research and found much information re the importance of HRT but she will not budge. I cannot express what this video has meant to me. I Thank you Dr. Clare, I thank you Penny from the bottom of my heart. The information you have given this community is priceless. Please ladies, no matter how young you are this information is vital for every one of us. Gotta go. I'm off to fight for my estradiol. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
Sending you strength! Is it possible to change doctors? I have a fantastic, informed doc and she’s changed my life. On HRT 2 years and feel like my old self again (but wiser 😉)
This is my story, too. Long-story short, my dr will not put me back on HRT due to the “risks”. Im looking for a different doctor but how do I know the new Dr won’t do the same thing. So frustrating.
@@jenniferegan2358 I can only imagine how frustrating it is. Can you look at doctor profiles before choosing a new one? Here's my doctor's profile, which made me choose her since she mentions using both both allopathic and alternative options mydoctor.kaiserpermanente.org/ncal/providers/antonianicosia
I am 50 years old, always into sport, slim, healthy and peri menopause hitted me so badly , i felt i lost myself , my life and almost my mind . I am about to consult my doctor about ways to handle it . Thank you for making this video.
Same here. I'm 48, and since October, I started going rapidly down the hill .My lower back pain is horrible ,my muscles like I'm all stiff 😫 mentally. I'm all over the place is so hard 😢
I started the patch and progesterone and within about a month I had mild bleeding. I freaked out and stopped and I was put through the most painful procedure I have ever had in my life - that biopsy! The whole experience felt punitive for some reason. I felt really alone. Thanks for the clarification for others so they are not rushed to biopsy.
This was amazing! Thank you so much. I’ve been on bio-identical HRT for a year now and it has made a world of difference. Went into menopause at 43. I was one of those that was misinformed regarding HRT and was very hesitant to try it. I wasted 5 years and most of my 40’s suffering through all the symptoms of menopause, till the depression portion just drove me to try HRT. I love it and I got to do my 40’s in my 50’s because of it. Lol. Don’t suffer through menopause. 💖
I am a 62 year old breast cancer survivor (at 34, cancer free since 1997). This information has brought me to tears. I always thought HRT was not possible. I am going to make an appointment immediately to discuss all this info with my doctor. I have everything you have mentioned and it has been going on nearly 20 years!
If you have any bladder or vag symptoms, know that you can use RX vaginal estrogen. It’s important in the long-term prevention of chronic UTIs. There are many women in nursing homes because of damage to their brain done by chronic UTIs. It’s called delirium. Delirium is like a ‘brain fever’ that happens during severe infection and sepsis. This happened to my mom.
Thank you. This was very informative and came at a very good time. I am 61and have been "weaning off" my HRT in the last few months. My symptoms are coming back and I feel crappy so I have been upping my dosage again in the last few days as a result. I have been on HRT for about 9-10 years and was of the belief that it was not healthy for me to stay on it for this long. Information from my doctor has been patchy and the decision has just been left with me more or less. This has changed my way of thinking about it.
I absolutely love her!! She is the reason I was able to help my OBGYN help me with all of these issues and drastically, and I mean DRASTICALLY, improve my quality of life!! She is truly a rockstar!! Thank you thank you thank you!!🙏🏻❤️💕🎯
I follow Dr. Haver, and am incredibly grateful to her for educating all of us, and preparing us for what is to come, and how to advocate for ourselves.
What a PROFOUNDLY important discussion this was. Your gratitude at the end toward the Dr was so sincere and I want to give those exact same deeply appreciative words to you, Penny. This takes your service to your audience to an entirely different level. Your “normal” videos…informative, lighthearted and fun as they are, serve a real purpose for us, but these are life-changing, life-affirming and most importantly, life-SAVING conversations that no one (or few) is having. So THANK YOU, Penny for caring about your own health and wellness as well as ours, and shining a light on such a shadow-ridden topic. Sending love and HEALTH! ❤️
This dr is so genuine and brilliant, I love how looks at womens studies. This proves men and women are not physiological the same. Men dont have to go through all these changes like women do. "She said we gaslight ourselves ", we need to know what she is sharing.
OMG Penny thank you, so much, I am in tears, literally. My mom is a breast cancer survivor too. Yes we have a huge gap in the medical literature on menopause and in training in addressing this part of women's health. The politics in this and the way we perceive women in society is such a factor in all of this. This presentation and just down to earth talk is just going to be so far reaching for so many women. Expecially to all of us in this amazing group as we support eachother in our journey in our health and well being!!! Thank you!! Love you Penny!!!!!
Such an important topic! I am so glad we are finally talking about this phase of life women experience for 3 or 4 decades! I was so lost and confused when I first entered peri-menopause and then menopause. Thank you for this conversation. 💕💜 So Truly THANKFUL to you two amazing ladies!!
Dr. Christiane Northrup wrote a book years ago and she was on Oprah. FANTASTIC information about menopause!!! She talks about the emotional part of menopause also. Well worth the purchase! Thank you to Dr. Haver ONCE AGAIN for all of her research on this crazy topic! I buy her fiber power and it's awesome.
I am 59 and have been taking care of everybody else for years. Now that my kids have all left home, and I care for my 92yo mom, I’m Exhausted a lot of the time. I walk a lot, watch my diet ,yet have started with this belly fat thing…..WTH!!? I tried to bring up HRT at my last Dr. Appt and was ignored! I need a new dr. I wish I lived in Texas! Being invisible is awful. 🫥 So happy to see this age group addressed at last for women.
Thank you both so much for the informative discussion! I'm 59, and had my last period 4 years ago. My OB-GYN has told me to just "deal with" the hot flashes, sleepless nights etc.... It's so refreshing and exciting to hear about my options from well informed and dedicated professionals who care...💕😊
Dr. Haver, you are sent from above! Thank you for making this your mission. We need more women like you! I took a deep dive into the menopause rabbit hole two years ago after my symptoms became severe. I'm so grateful they were, since that is what made me start HRT therapy. I since then now know that it might have save my life. I'm trying spread the word as much as I can amongst my friends. Sadly they are mostly waving me off telling me "they don't have hot flashes". But I will not give up. :) Thank you once again! And Penny, I owe you a lot too!! ❤
Love this. I'm 67 retired RN. I am about to see a uro gyn next week to get to the bottom of some issues. I also have a family member with PCOS who has been on the pill for years.
You titled this appropriately and I am grateful for you! This was by far the most important video I believe I have been exposed to in a VERY long time. Thank you for introducing me to this doctor and her wealth of information. Your questions were spot on and I already ordered her book. Grateful. Please keep speaking up for women facing these issues. So many in the appropriate fields are silent!!!!❤❤❤
Thank you for your videos and information!!! I really listened to you thoroughly on this video and appreciate the breakdown. I was almost upset with Doctors due to them NOT knowing or telling me anything. I’m 53 with NO uterus and can’t sleep at all. I do take transdermal Magnesium as well as the Thorne brand Magnesium every day!!! I thought someone would have at least told me some numbers on a test.
Love her… watching now. I am on both estradiol … I do a patch … progesterone oral… I’m 3 years period free (56)and I never had symptoms of menopause per say but after hearing about estrogen for the health benefits . Vaginal dryness was my main issue and that is not an issue anymore. So happy… I love that she does not prescribe Premarin 🐴 I’m wondering if she know Dr. Susan hardwick smith… she is also in Texas out of Houston. I learned everything I know about HRT from her and how to speak with my doctor. It’s great these wonderful open minded doctors are here for us so we can thrive as older women. I feel my skin is better too! Tighter, more vibrant…. 🤩 Thabks for sharing!! So important!
I’m on an bioidentical 0.1 estradial patch for over a year now, problems started when I turned 50 and I got hot flashes, but the worst was not heing able to sleep, night sweats, tossing and turning, mood swings, depression and I’m a really fit person/gym rat. Hormon therapy helped me so much, it’s unbelievable 🙏🏻 Great podcast, Dr. Haver is an angel, thank you Penny for bringing her on ❤
I am so happy to hear from a physician specializing in women’s health specifically post menopausal. Thank you thank you. I’m 62 and diagnosed with stage Ia, E and P positive breast cancer in 2019. I took the aromatase inhibitor prescribed (after lumpectomy and radiation).I had to stop it because of symptoms. I have all the symptoms of menopausal hormone decline. And didn’t think there was a solution. I feel positive after listening to Dr. Haver PS- I am a woman -the picture is not me!!!
What a fantastic conversation! Thank you so much for this. It would be great to hear more and more about this topic because it's so important to our health. Women after 50 have been neglected in so many ways and we need to stop this. We often live half of our lives without hormones and it impacts the quality of life. Thank you and I'm waiting for more when it comes to this subject 👍
Thank you for inviting Dr. Mary Claire Haver to your channel. Dr Haver thank you for taking the time to educate this community about menopause I learned a lot. 💓 I have been educating myself about menopause for the last 4 years, when I started peri menopause and thought that it was my responsibility to share with my sisters and friends what I have learned about menopause on UA-cam. As soon as I hit menopause I asked my OBGYN for HRT and I was fortunate that he agreed to do so. As soon as I started HRT I felt more energetic and had less brain fog. I use an HRT combi patch. I take all the supplements mentioned in this video, eat a balanced diet and have no health issues.😊
Sooo grateful for doctors like Mary Claire Haver! Thank you for being a staunch and enthusiastic advocate for women dealing with menopause and all the confusion and aggravation that comes with it. I listen to all her stuff and share it with all my lady friends. I refuse to spend the last half of my life cranky and with weak ass bones. Thank you!!!
I started on the patch in my late 40’s and I’m so glad that I did.. I’m 63 now and doing well, still. 6.5 yrs out from OC. Thanks so much for inviting this knowledgeable doctor on to further educate us! I wonder if she knows my MD/menopause specialist Dr Diane Bitner.
I so enjoyed this! I am (almost) 55yo and began HRT earlier this year. I had been feeling a little uneasy about my decision to begin HRT, but this interview put my mind at ease. Thank you!
Excellent information, thank you...unfortunately I'm now at the age where in the year 2000 I could have begun something to assist me but it all came to a screeching halt as was discussed! So now it sounds like, at age 75, it's too late for me. I have had a heart issue and now have a pacemaker. The younger women are so lucky to have an advocate like Dr Haver on their side. Thank you Dr Haver and Penn for approaching this subject as my daughters will now go through this phase with education and assistance ....seems so unbelievable that it has taken this long, doesn't it? :(
I think Dr Mary Claire Haver is great, and so full of helpful information ! I've been subscribed to her for quite a while. I'm so grateful that she takes the time to get new information about menopause to give to us so that we are not the forgotten group of women. ❤
Thank you so much!!! I feel like I have the right information to go to my doctor. I'm 53 and still have my cycle but perimenopause is just kicking my ... Again thank you for talking about this...much respect 🌹
Thank you so much For this interview, I am turning 45 next month and I can already see your regular period so this means so much to me. Now I'm going down the rabbit hole of Perri menopause.
I started on the Alloy treatment and feel so much better. I also have Hypothyroidism and I think the remaining symptoms are related to that. I am noticing a lot of women complaining about the menopause/perimenopause symptoms along with hypothyroidism. I am thankful you, Penn, in getting Dr. Haver on a UA-cam discussion about this very important issue. Thank you Dr. Haver for your intelligence, time and enthusiasm.
Amazing content! Thank you so much Doctor was so easy to listen to and understand. I'm grateful to you for bringing this. I went through menopause at 48 and as a nurse I had no clue what the heck was going on. But I was a heavy flasher and so that drove me to the gynecologist for help. He wasn't very helpful in information but thankfully started me on HRT.
Thank you Penny and Dr. Haver. I’m 44 and started experiencing some perimenopause symptoms on/off over the past 18 months. It’s been confusing and frustrating at times. I changed OBGYNs last year and so far I do like my current one a lot. Fingers crossed as time goes on. Taking the time to create quality content about these topics is so appreciated. Again thank you!
So grateful for these conversations! I love that menopause care is changing, and that we're all talking about it now! About estrogen face creams vs transdermal hrt : what's to stop those of us who use transdermal estrogen cream as hrt from applying it to our faces and necks instead of our forearms? Best of both worlds?
I just discovered Mary Claire maybe 2 days ago, and I just started HRT 2 weeks ago. Thank you for all the questions you asked. There were some I didn't even think of. Great podcast and will forward to friends.
I’m 48 and just started HRT wished I started probably a year ago. Only now when I started researching my symptoms of most of the noticeable symptoms where symptoms of low hormones. I have been watching Dr Haver for a while and she is God sent with her knowledge.
Penny thank you for this, I’m 52 and have been on HRT since 5 years. it is a god send and so many women are clueless about it. thank you so much for this information and for all you do for us. I didn’t know Dr. Haver, I am going to follow her, she is paving the way for all of us. 👍
Absolutely fabulous video. I was entranced. Thank you to the wonderful DR AND Penn. Very informative and very well described, took away a lot of fear of taking hrt. I’m 48, had a hysterectomy when I was 32, retained my two ovaries and think I should have started this a long while ago. I’m even concerned about the years worth of protection I have lost. I am a hot sweater .. phew! and sleep is a mystery. You guys have armed me with information to take to the GP. Although he has already advised me that the NHS here in the Uk is lacking skilled gps and he has promised to help where he can but it might be more helpful for me to get the full picture and best advice from going down the private route. This is a big deal to a woman, so I’d like to get it right. I’m going to make an appointment tomorrow and get on with it! Thank you again to both of you guys. Penn you break down the best topics with the most researched info. I’ll be a lifetime fan ❤😂xxxx
What a great informative Q&A on this very important health issue that effects every single women (millions!) who goes through menopause. It’s truly mind blowing that this is not addressed nationally and that the only doctors and women who are educated in any way are those that seek to find the information on their own. I am so thankful to people like Penny and Dr. Haver who help to educate women on this topic. I am a Mammographer and this topic comes up all the time with many patients who are struggling to accept the miserable symptoms that they are having from menopause. I will definitely be mentioning this Q&A in the future to my patients if they care to educate themselves. Thank you Penny and Dr Haver.
This was fantastic! I underwent pre a pause at the age of 38 and only discovered it when I was trying to get pregnant and couldn’t. I was able to with IVF but after that I was put in HRT bc I started getting hairline fractures on my feet from mild bumps (toe snubs). Was diagnosed with Osteopenia and felt so much better after HRT. So thankful for this info Penn it reconfirms where I am right now
Thank you to these beautiful ladies for having and sharing this conversation!! I’m 50 and started having severe symptoms really all of them at around 45! I was so alone and suffering with no help from my many doctors! I tried everything ex. Bc (many different kinds, cannabis, antidepressant.. Finally found the right doctor who helped me get what I needed! I’m currently using IUD which she is so right it wasn’t my favorite choice but it has helped immensely!! Along with TRT which was a game-life changer for me not only for libido which was GONE but so much more! I have devoted my UA-cam channel sharing my whole experience hoping to help women not suffer alone… all my love to all of us women stand strong stand TOGETHER WE CAN CHANGE HOW WE GO THROUGH MENOPAUSE!!!❤👏🤝🤝🤝🤝
Thank you for this discussion . I am 57 and consider myself lucky that I have only had sleep issues but lack of sleep is pretty major. I will be asking my doctor for hrt. Thank you to you both,
Worlds collide. I’ve been following both of you for over a year. So glad to see this collab. Dr Haver’s information has really helped me. HRT has been such a game changer for me. I needed the patch as the pill was doing very little to remediate my perimenopause symptoms. I’m nearly 3 months on the patch and feeling so much better!
I found this video at the perfect time! I just turned 52 and in the past couple months have been experiencing severe hot flashes. Thank you so much for this information. It pushed me to schedule an appointment for HRT. Thank you!
Thank you, Penny and Dr. Haver! I have blood pressure spikes at least once a month and have been to emergency and doctor several times in 22, 23. Headaches, sinus, tinitus, body aches. Although I have a history of heart attack, I've been to doctor several times. Bloodwork to see if I've had any other heart attacks, Echocardiogram, EKG, CT scan, Lupus test, lung, all other blood tests. They can't find anything. My diet is better than the doctors and nurses as they say LOL. I use rebounder (trampoline). It is very frustrating. It might even be anxiety, but I want to know for sure! I don't know what else to do. Thank God for you two.
This was great. I was on the pill since 25 & at 52 my GYN took me off to check estrogen & all levels. I had no hot flashes or sweats -I stay cold. I lost 2 breast sizes in 6-7 mos before she took me off to check. Stayed later that o was fully in menopause. No way to get pregnant. Had lost 10 lbs or so not trying. I am 99-100 lbs & I have always been thin build but had breasts & butt! Also lost muscle & fat -all bloodwork was fine. Thus, im or 101 lbs maybe at 53.5 yrs of age. Oral estradiol 2mg-progesterone 2.5mg & 1% compounded testosterone. Sleep wasn’t perfect before but worse now. Lower drive & dryness issues. Had no children as was widow at 42. Remarried @ 46. No risk factors so hope the weight loss was me fully hitting a low with estrogen. I’m an anomaly being thinner & no reason I can find. I’m a size 00 now from a 2. So I know others would trade with me. But it’s hard. Feel less womanly. But can’t gain weight! Blessed to never drink or smoke. Eat whatever I want. Just wish insurance wasn’t cookie- cutter HRT for us all. Thank you for this video! She’s great!
I wish I had known all this useful information earlier. Thank you so much. If I had just met you earlier, life might be so different for me? 🤔. I truly feel that the boat has sailed for a lot of women & that's sooo sad. I was afraid of HRT bc my mother developed breast cancer, the doc said the therepy might have been the culprit. Her friend also was on the therepy & developed breast Cancer! The friend survived, my Mother didn't & it was a horrible journey watching her die like that. Of course it had metastasized. When it came to me I WAS terrified, as you spoke about, because of all the negative attention brought to HRT! Now i realize, it may have helped me immensely. I started menopause very late. My hair is very thick & long & my skin is still quite good. (Thanks to Penny also). People are usually very surprised to hear my age! That's one thing, I suppose? I will be approaching my Gyno regarding this. Now that I feel a lot more informed. Thank you so, so much! I will be purchasing your book. Maybe one for my Gyno also? ❤😘
This was super great information. At 57 I am already 7 years into being post menopausal and have yet to find any doctor in my DC metro area that has been able to help me.
Thank you so so much for this video. I will definitely check out Dr. Haver’s book and program. I’ve had a touch time physically and mentally with menopause and feel so comforted to have such powerful advocates like you and Dr. Haver fighting for us to get the well-informed medical care we need. I appreciate both of you!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I’m 61 and going to my Gyn tomorrow. I never have any questions and now I have a bunch of things I never thought of to discuss with her. I am excited to follow Dr. Havrer and be more educated.
Great conversation and so much info that Dr. Haber shared. Unfortunately, I didn't get on HRT and I'm about 15 years post Menopause and developed Osteoporosis and have Thyroid issues. Been able to get stronger with changing my diet, but I'm still a work in progress.
Thank you so much for this invaluable information. I am in menopause and I will be talking to my doctor when I see her. I wish I had been given this information sooner by my doctor. I really hope that our healthcare starts to change and will be more supportive of women's health in my lifetime. I have had to advocate and ask for a referral to have a pelvic floor physical therapist, which by the way, is NOT covered by health insurance. I am so happy I went as it resolved the issue I was having and with the exercises I learned I can continue to do them on my own. Tragically, most of the issues that women have with their pelvic floor (i.e., bladder issues), can be resolved and are very treatable. So, again, thank you so much!!!
Thank you, Dr. Haver and Penn! This topic is so important to us aging women. Please, everyone, educate yourself, find a NAMS certified doctor or one that has experience with women’s hormones and menopause. Go armed with knowledge, speak up for yourself! Dr. Haver is helping leading the way for all of us, but more doctors need to be educated on aging women and the benefits of steroids. There shouldn’t only be studies and advancements for men.
That is very interesting Penny :) I am only 34 years old and I have discovered last year that my estrogen levels are way too low (melatonin and cortisol as well!). So my doctor recommended to try first some behavioural and nutritional changes considering my age. End of the year I will check if these changes have been effective, fingers crossed 🤞
Thank you, thank you, thank you Penny for having Dr. Mary Claire Haver on as your guest. I've listened to her a few times & I can't get enough. She is a wealth of information. I'm so confused. I started on Bio-identical hormone therapy last year. I found a Doctor here on You-Tube. However, I had a hysterectomy when I was 35.I had one ovary left. I started these hormones when I was 59. They are FDA approved compounded creams. However, they prescribed all 3 hormones. They put me on progesterone & I don't have a uterus. It sounds like I don't even need it. I asked them about progesterone being 2 big of a molecule to absorb into the skin & they didn't say anything. I'm also on DHEA which I don't like. Everytime I take these hormones I gain weight. So I go off them. Then I get nervous b/c my mom has Alzheimer's & my dad died of a massive heart attack when he was my age, 60 & I go back on them. It's a vicious cycle. I have osteopenia. Anyway, I would give anything if I could pay to talk to Dr. Haver personally but I know that's not possible. I would really go to Texas but I'm my mom's caregiver & I can't leave her. Thanks again.
You are right about the progesterone cream not getting absorbed. A pill would be best. As for the estrogen, a patch would be your best option. I understand that you do not have a uterus so you do not necessarily need progesterone however you can still take it if you have problems sleeping as it really helps when taken before bed. This information I am giving you has all been acquired from Dr. Haver's posts. Now, from my personal experience I gain weight with progesterone pills so I am on the Mirena IUD where the progesterone remains localized in the uterus and does not run through your veins. I also learned that if estrogen is too low or too high, it can cause weight gain. I hope this helps!
Thank you so much for all of the new knowledge. I am 47 and was diagnosed with invasive ductal breast cancer in March. Mastectomy in May and about to start tamoxifen. I’m nervous about all of the side effects considering heart disease and dementia run heavily in my family. Thank you for giving me insight into ways to help prevent them while taking tamoxifen. Buying the Galveston diet next😊
Penn❤! You are truly an advocate for women, and so gentle and caring in your approach to this topic. 😊Thank you so much for making this video! I have been on HRT for three years and the doctor said I can stay on for five… 🙄My question is, ❓❓❓does anyone have a list of studies or verbiage that a person could give their doctor to see if they would continue pass the five-year mark- especially when it’s clearly beneficial??? ⭐️⭐️ It seems to be that it would be nice to be armed with specific things that will capture the doctors attention because clearly telling them that it’s helping you does not seem to matter, unfortunately. ❓❓ also… Can you please indicate which type of magnesium the doctor was referring to… It was difficult to understand. Thank you,Penn!!!
Amazing wish I can turn back the clock I’m 61 and I went thru hot flashes dizzy spells etc. If only I had this video went it all started I probably could have avoided so many symptoms. I will share these video with my daughters. Thanks 🙏
Testosterone can do more than help with libido. I pushed it away for the last several years because I didn’t really care about that benefit. My doctor recently highly recommended that I add it in because I was so very low. I was amazed at how it has improved my mood and energy. Estrogen and progesterone were not enough.
Thank you so much for this video!! I love you and Dr. Haven a ton!! Both of you are making a difference for women❣️ I’m forever grateful for all that you both bring to your channels ❤🙏
"We gaslight Ourselves" So true.. Dr. Haver is right! Seems like so many "Specialists" I have been too. Thank you for bringing this massively important subject and fabulous Dr. Haver to your viewers Wonderful Penny!!! Now, I need to get to her : ) Interesting. at age 57, I thought I was seeing an "expert", and now I have to wonder. Just the Pat on the back with a "Ahhh you're alright" after I complain about all of the issues associated with Menopause, throws some vaginal cream at me and that's it. I've actually been pretty good at researching so many subjects about health over the years. Yet, here I am.. at a loss. I've asked about my endometrial ablation she did years ago as well, and if this affects me.. "Ohhhh you're alright" with a pat on the back. The Sahara desert has come to visit now as well. I need to move on.
@lindacgrace2973 thank you 🙏
I’ll be thinking of you Deb!!
Dr.Haver is changing the world for women in the most positive way! Thank you thank you thank you
Only half way through video but don’t want to forgot to comment on some things for clarification. First, she’s doing a pretty good job of explaining things overall 👏🏻
I’ve been treating Menlo and perimeno women for over 25 yrs so she has more time to fine tune and learn.
4. Oral contraceptives reduce ovarian cancer because it stops ovulation and activity of ovaries
5. Since then BigPharma has been in a mission to crush compounding pharmacies in a variety of ways WITH the help of the FDA (FDA is funded >45% from big Pharma as high as 75%)
6 related to above: as MDs stopped hormones, women turned to compounding pharmacies for their bio identical
Hormones.
Estriol also has studies on bone density, brain health including impact on patients with MS (multiple sclerosis)
9 You will likely not hear about estriol on US because it can NOT be patented.
There is just a lot more to hormone therapy.)
Again, she has done a great job in this video educating women about hormones 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
And excuse all of the typos!
Dr. Haver is a total rock star!! Thank you for all the hard work you are doing on behalf of us menopausal gals❤
I’ve heard of women this young having osteopenia. Some get it from Depo-Provera. 💔❤️🩹❤️
I wish I would have seen this video much sooner as I only started HRT a month ago and I’m 61. This is the best video ever! ❤
Not close to menopause, but I’m really loving this discussion. Feels like women are just supposed to be quiet and endure the difficult effects of menopause on their own once they’re no longer in their childbearing years. Hard not to feel that this lack of education and research is misogynistic.
I completely agree.
Dr. Haver, thank you! I’m 77 and could have used this info some years ago. You’re doing beautiful work to help women.
I am 36 years old and this information is INCREDIBLE!!! I want to be informed as I get closer to this transition. I’m going to share this with ALLL my friends!!!
I am in HRT for 2 years now, my quality of life is GREAT AND BETTER in everyway !!! Thank you Penn and thank you Dr Haver
Hi Georgina! How did you do as far as weight gain or with your HRT? Did you have to get any HRT adjustments before it finally worked for you? Thanks!
So were yr hormones off right when u quit yr period? According to my bloodwork, progesterone low and estrogen high🤷🏼♀️
@@tracyC7414 I'm sure they were off, because the hot flashes were very bad at that point.
@@tracyC7414 High estrogen in relation to progesterone is called 'estrogen dominance'. This is very common in perimenopause.
Not really ,I had two hormonal tests, and one shows I'm postmenopausal the other that I'm perfect ! Depends on the cycle we are in
Not helpful to check your hormone levels because they're in chaos up & down all over the place until they're zero
I’m sending you strength as well!!! Don’t stop until you get what you need!!
If your doctor won’t, consider another resource. You got this!!
@DianaRowanBrightWay who is your doctor?
This is my story,too.
Get Dr. Christiane Northrup's book! She addresses the emotional part of perimenopause as well as menopause.
This video will probably take a few times watching to all sink in. Menopause brain fog n fatigue got me 🤯
This was amazing!
26 years cancer-free is amazing! ❤️
Thank you thank you thank you!!🙏🏻❤️💕🎯
We are our own biggest advocates!!! 😊

Thank you for taking the time to say this, you made my day!
This dr is so genuine and brilliant, I love how looks at womens studies. This proves men and women are not physiological the same. Men dont have to go through all these changes like women do. "She said we gaslight ourselves ", we need to know what she is sharing.
Thank you for sharing a woman with medical and personal knowledge about women.
I have learned so much and can listen to her over and over. . My menopause hero . She is so authentic.I believe in her.
She’s a rockstar! Love everything Dr Haver is doing for the cause💕
I am going through treatment right now for breast cancer and it's kicked me into menopause but I am 42
Such an important topic! I am so glad we are finally talking about this phase of life women experience for 3 or 4 decades! I was so lost and confused when I first entered peri-menopause and then menopause. Thank you for this conversation. 💕💜
So Truly THANKFUL to you two amazing ladies!!
So happy to see this age group addressed at last for women.
I hope you are able to find a doctor who will listen to you!!! Sending hugs 😊
I assume the obgyn who told you to just deal with it hasn't reached menopause yet.
WOW! She’s an amazing advocate for women! This was an amazing video! Thank you
She truly is!!! ❤️
I love all this fantastic information. I just wish I could find a doctor that would actually believe it and help me. 😢
Can't wait till she comes back!❤
Love her… watching now.
Haver is an angel, thank you Penny for bringing her on ❤
Thank you for having Dr Haver on your channel! She is wonderful, I wish there were more Ob/GYN drs like her! So much great information!
I have been educating myself about menopause for the last 4 years, when I started peri menopause and thought that it was my responsibility to share with my sisters and friends what I have learned about menopause on UA-cam.
Thank you so much Penn and Mary Claire. This was the best explanation of HRT ever. Thank you thank you!!
You are so welcome!
Thank you!
Fantastic talk! So much amazing information! Thank you so much!
Will watch this in its entirety when I have time tomorrow. But wanted to be certain to like and comment. THANK YOU so much for this video ❤❤
Thank you so much Jennifer! 🥰
As a PA-C this is one of the most informative discussions I have ever seen regarding HRT providing evidence based solutions. Thank you Dr Haver.
I am SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!

I’m so happy for you!!
I found this video at the perfect time! I just turned 52 and in the past couple months have been experiencing severe hot flashes. Thank you so much for this information. It pushed me to schedule an appointment for HRT. Thank you!
So glad it was helpful! 😊
Thank you for providing such great educators on your channel and thank you Dr. Haver for helping women with such a huge issue!
Thank you Penn and Dr. Mary Claire Haver!!!!
Love her. Her you tube channel and website has a wealth of information.❤
Two amazing women in one podcast. Thank you 💖
This is one of the best podcasts for menopause!🎉🎉 well done!
Thank you so much!
Best interview with Dr Haver I’ve seen-I’ve watched most of them! Thanks especially for the questions at the end!

I’ve had a touch time physically and mentally with menopause and feel
so comforted to have such powerful advocates like you and Dr.
Thank you soooo much !!!! Dr Haver you are super!!🙌 Got my HRT patch today thanks to your advice❤❤. Thank you
Yolande from South Africa❤
Dr Haver is amazing!
I just scheduled appt with my doctor to discuss HRT
She is such an incredible, beautiful woman!!! You are sooooo appreciated ❤😊
Thanks 🙏
This video is so incredibly informative and helpful! Thank you and Dr. Haver for looking out for us!
Testosterone can do more than help with libido. I pushed it away for the last several years because I didn’t really care about that benefit. My doctor recently highly recommended that I add it in because I was so very low.
I was amazed at how it has improved my mood and energy. Estrogen and progesterone were not enough.
@@gma2039 yes it’s a small dose.
You are right!! I think we just went that direction in this discussion but certainly testosterone is involved in mood and energy. Totally agree!
Thank you so much for this video!! I love you and Dr. Haven a ton!! Both of you are making a difference for women❣️ I’m forever grateful for all that you both bring to your channels ❤🙏
Thank you so much for this info! I’m on the cusp of this and had no starting point. Now I feel better prepared.
So glad it was helpful! 😊
Thank you Dr. Haver and Penn. This information was so helpful for me.
