    Hi Matt. I purchased 2X6 stock instead of 1X6. Will the thicker wood look odd in this build? Should I skip the drawer?

      I used the jointer for the shelf and top (just didn't show it on video) but for cutting the legs down, it was just faster to do it on the table saw.

      @@tylerommen5452 if you run the straight edge through the table saw with the wood, it flattens out the board. If you affix the straight edge to the fence, it does no good. Think of it as a fake smooth edge to run against the fence, just like if your board had a surfaced edge.

    Hey Matt, I just finished building the coffee table and the end table. Thank you for the idea. I noticed the pocket holes barely show on the leg braces and the bottom shelf. Mine did too. Just a thought, but if you lowered that horizontal brace 1/2", those holes wouldn't show. Just a thought. When I build it again, I think I'll lower them 1/2" and see what happens.

    Matt, awesome little builds. I have been building cabinets and furniture pieces for a minute. I have found for your finish, that shellac (clear) with 2 thin coats( sanding 220 in between coats) and finishing with a Johnson's finishing paste (2 coats or more). This gives you a amazingly smooth finish (like dining room table). I did this on my own dining table. Only I did 4 coats of shellac for durability. It's way easier than poly. Much nicer of a look too. I have pics of product that I mentioned. But I can't attach them to the comments.

    I'm confused, if your fence is a straight edge, the why use another straight edge as a jointer?

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks  3 роки тому +3

      The level moves with the board, thereby giving the board a straight edge to reference. If you just use the fence, the edge being cut is referencing the other side of the board. Which is typically never truly straight.

    Well if you cut the legs at 24” when you put the top on now it’s a 25” table.

    Do you use the planer on on your 1×6, new to wood working and i haven't seen you use it on your projects. I know most of the 1×6 at my big box store aren't the flatest.

    great job, love watching your work. Praying for the time you can make this your daily deal. Keep it up and God Bless your family. It would be great if you gave rough est time for total build. And total material cost. I dont think this would impact your business or client view either way, as they value you and your work. And you may already itemize this for clients regardless.

    Ok, I got a question and Matt, I hope you can answer it... at 2:29 when you start rocking that straight-fiddle-edge and you talk about referencing the plank to the level edge, isn't your fence just as straight? I the plank is off or warped etc... wouldn't it come out to the same result using the fence or the level?? Does my question make sense? It's 2am and just worked a double shift... lol
