On a non grayscale frame it's so difficult to tolerate a black cockpit especially when you have raw metal rims, hubs, spokes, cranks, brakes, etc. The sticker shock for the changes is definitely understandable. Saddle color palette is another tricky one I have been struggling with.
That’s gotta be the grand daddy bike in the room now. At night he’ll tell all the other bikes stories of what it was like in the 90’s. Awesome build mate. I didn’t think you’d out do the Norco, but I was wrong.... and glad about it. 👍
This stem adaptor mod is a game changer for me. So are your videos. My first mountain bike was a 1994 Specialized Hardrock. It's been collecting dust for years. I'm excited about building it to similar specs as your Rockhopper. This build gets me into a gravel bike for pennies due to all the parts I have laying around. Preciate it buddy!
Yeap. Got an identical bike waiting for a similar conversion. Thinking of also doing a 1x something and thicker tires. Though I'm keeping the O.G. handle bars I think. Planning on keeping it as a mountain/gravel bike.
I also have the identical bike- 93 purple rockhopper- and I'd like to do the same with mine. If you ever convert your bike, post a video to your page please and I'll do the same. Thanks!
Hah - thank you for pointing out that issue with the brake levers- I have an old litespeed 26 inch rigid and drop bar conversion and the back brake never worked as it should and it is totally the odd shape of the bar that limits the pull. Will play with that next - thanks again!
Been looking at doing this to my 1992 stumpjumper for a while now. Looks f-awesome. Was going to go hack 7speed thumbies. But now a full rebuild is on the cards 🤣🤣
They got on Amazon, follow his tyres link. But it's USA Amazon so 4 me in the UK the postage and international taxes made it cheaper 4 me to buy a nice second hand Lamborghini.
that is a great looking bike! i recently built a retro as well and i can relate to almost everything you've gone through but with flat bars.. im thinking of changing it to dropbars in the future, that last part was a huge help! cheers
those work great if you have a recessed mount on your fork crown. Most MTB rigid forks do not. I wish they came in a bit longer thread so you could concave nut them and still have enough thread to throw fenders on when needed.
Took my mountain bike on a ride yesterday, almost fell, and regret getting platform pedals and not clip less because I don't like how much the platform ones chew away at my shoes. Tisk tisk.
I got a carbon road bike 2 weeks ago, between the brifters and clipless, I'm too nervous to ride the damn thing, even though I use straps on my fixed gear. I also find it sad that out of three tricrosses I found, my carbon 105 bike was cheaper. 100-200 dollar discount off msrp for 12 years of use and abuse seems to be the going rate around here for cross bikes.
I started commuting years 4 years ago haven't stop since that's how I found you now I own six bikes all modified from watching videos like this I recently. Received a ten speed 28" in pristine condition as I shoveled snow for my 80+ year old neighbor she's single😀 anyways its steel from sears and roebucks paint everything nice shimano every thing is there a way I can send pics to you I want to know if its worth upgrade or keep its nostalgia i haven't rode it yet weighs more than my stumpjumper lol I can tell its of value I allways liked the messenger crowd in N.Y. I'm a little too old for fixie but maybe a single speed where do I start oh yeah this bike is from 1979 garage kept
Glad you didn't drop the big bones on stem/seatpost! It would violate the premise of the build. That combo, in my mind, belies the notion of "affordable bikes." Entire bikes can be assembled for less than that!
Are those the WTB Gravel King SKs in Olive? I know they started making 26 inch gravel kings but im trying to figure out where to get them at this point. I am building almost the exact same bike. 1993 stumpjumper....pretty much an exact copy of this guy and you. www.pedalroom.com/bike/1993-specialized-stumpjumper-m2-22975
Simple give your bikes numbers and roll a dice

those tires man! and we watch/subscribe because of you dude. you are original. dont chase the content. it will happen.
Ahh. Much better, hope it's a perfect fit now.

So stoked to see this build riding.... and I got my stickers! yet to be applied but 1 step closer to ultimate coolness on my gravel build.
I've got a Rockhopper that I would love to do something similar with - have you got a list of everything you've done with it to get it to that point?
That entire reveal sequence, starting with the sticker coming into focus, with the music: so good.

Just curious where you found 26” panaracer gravel king sk’s. I’ve looked. I know they exist, just not sure where they exist. Great build! Looks great!
Yeah me too

Really enjoy your videos. Recently got a 2012 Trek Cronus cx with full SRAM Force and have been doing a lot of riding.
That is so awesome .I"d love to build something similar.
Looks cool. Good job
All I can say is , Tektro Fork Mount Cable Hanger Canti Cantilever Brakes Front 1277a .

Are you planning to make a final video, kind of showcasing the completed build? Like you did with the dirt cheap gravel bike, I guess.
Yes it’ll get it’s own completely dedicated video

That's amazing. I'm so stoked for you! but dammit now I need to put flared drops on my drop bar 26er...
Put a 3spd hub on it :) Sturmey has a bar end shifter for 3spd
I am going to do that for my winter bike this year. Maybe the nexus 7spd or I have a 3apd here now that may end up on it
I'd love to see your take on a cruiser build. Like a modern beach or bar hopper.

that back yard riding gave me thoughts of Spindatt building a backyard trail like seths bike hacks
Turned out great!

I'm jealous of you guys that can commute. My job is an hour car drive away.

What size frame is the grouch?
Subscribed... I don't wanna threaded headset on my Jekyll
What dropbar and cablehanger are those?
looking gooooood!!!
Damn you go pro audio!!!
Type of handlebar and size of Meats on those rims?
He talks about those things in previous vids.
Where did you get the quill stem adapter please ?
amazon
I like the red bike it looks cool.
what's the name of the song? That was so easy listening, so good!
My thought as well, or let us subscribers establish a schedule for you. That would be fun
Oof, that bike turned out great man, the purple paint and the gravel kings look amazing. What size of chainring are you running?
34.
36 maybe a guess
Match that Onza decal to some Onza Chill Pill cable hangers to give the bike +3 cool. They''re on ebay in just about every color ever.
I still like threaded forks/quill stems.
CRANKS!....there....I said it.
That's what I'm doing with one of my stickers.
North hi-fi is a great beer
that little round red SPINDATT sticker looks like you ordered extra ketchup on you burger.

I choose my ride in the evening, take it out of storage, move to the house and just follow pee/coffee/dress/bike routine.
Did you just unintentionally start a stickered rim trend while hiding a ding in a rim?
4 videos? I thought it was more like 6... 👍
Steel is just sexy looking! 😍😎
bro ur so cool
i would definetely steal one of your bikes without guilt..maybe two
you are riding with jeans, gloves and a jacket... isn't it June?
June has been somewhat cold in Nova Scotia this year. Was frost in areas of the city a couple days ago.
PLEASE build a BACKYARD Pumptrack.... you have a Killer Yard.
