  • Is Paperlike to Blame for Ruining my Apple Pencil Tip? It's not just you. A lot of people are experiencing this issue with their Apple Pencil tips. But what is the root cause? Is it really Paperlike's fault? I look back at a video titled How Paperlike Ruined My Apple Pencil from 2021. My Apple Pencil was worn down to the metal so over time I have tested other screen protectors to discover a better alternative that doesn't leave marks and wear down the apple pencil tip to the metal. After watching so many UA-camrs recommend paperlike I had found myself looking over some of the cons of paperlike matte screen protectors but those days are over. In this video, you'll my perspectiveve today after using alternatives to paperlike.

Yeah I use a glass screen protector. It is harder to get not wobbly lines and curves. That's why Procreate and Infinite Paint are the two drawing apps people like the most out of the pay once non free ones. They help with that issue with their snap like feature for lines, curves, and circles. It still is a lot of extra time to get other things just as nice with a tempered glass screen protector. I'm gonna try a silicone tip cover to see if that makes the screen protector easier for drawing. Since no one talks about that. They only talk about them while not having any screen protector. Then I might get one of the cheaper magnetic matte screen protectors and use the silicone tips on that. Then I can see if having a matte screen protector over a glass screen protector even works. I'll only try that matte option if just the silicone tips on the glass screen protector doesn't make any difference...

why did you not replace the tip instead of buying another apple pen

...I've had my Apple Pencil 1 since 2016/2017 (when the 9.7 inch Pro came out). I've been regularly using it with a glass screen protector (which also had a few external cracks on it) and the tip is still perfect. I haven't changed out. I got a new glass screen protector a few months ago. Mainly for gaming 'cause the other one was starting to have touch issues. It's of course much better without the surface cracks. So I'm hoping to that there's a way to have the typical ease of non digital writing and drawing while using my iPad without losing clarity of colors on the screen and ruining pencil tips. Some people like that scratchy sound that writing on multiple layers of paper gives. I don't like that. I've always had to make sure I one piece of paper to avoid that sound. I just want the drawing to be much easier without the other typical issues.

If you use chalk on a blackboard would you be surprised if the chalk wears down? Using any screen protector that provides resistance and introduce friction will wear down the Apple Pencil tip over time, due to the coefficient of friction. Similarly the majority of screen protectors we use as artist have are lower on the Mohs scale of hardness, meaning they will scratch much easier than glass. Both of this things are expected behavior and not necessarily a fault of PaperLike.

paperlike is a brand, not tipe of a screen protector. It's called Anti glare screen protector before paperlike brand existed.. Just buy paperlike or whatever similar and buy spare tip.

Apple Pencil nubs wear down. You said it did that after 2 years of use! You can replace the nubs with a pack of 4 for $20. You should be doing that annually anyway if you use the apple pencil on a really frequent basis. It's not like it's destroying the pencil and forcing you to buy another apple pencil; the tips are on the apple pencil so that you can replace them from wear. A grainy screen protector will pretty intuitively wear the nub down faster.
