(EP. 112) EMBRACING THE JOURNEY OF FATHERHOOD (EP. 112)
    What up family!
The journey from man to dad is one we should be embracing as fatherhood is one of our most important jobs to date.
With Jalon & Omar moving into fatherhood leadership takes on a whole new meaning! As fathers, we have a crucial role in shaping the lives of our children. Leadership is not just about being the breadwinner of the family, but also about being a role model and guide for our children. Actions, words, and behaviors will have a lasting impact on their development and future relationships.
One of the key aspects of being a leader as a father is being emotionally present and supportive for your family. This means actively listening to your children, understanding their needs, and providing them with guidance and love. By doing so, you are instilling trust and security in your family and creating a strong foundation for them to grow.
With marriage on the horizon for Jalon & Duke similarly, as a husband, your leadership is essential in creating a happy and healthy marriage. It involves communication, compromise, and understanding. Being a leader in your marriage means being a team player, listening to your partner's needs, and working together towards common goals.
In both roles, your leadership sets an example for your family and helps create a harmonious and stable household.

Man- 3 black men who I admire who are discussing the expectations for a family and household is such a place of adoration and sadness. I didn’t have it, but I am SO grateful to witness this conversation!

Omar!! Talk about it! “Not your little friend”.
I’m perfectly fine with my child temporarily not liking me for a season while I save their life and steer them. Children will never understand that and that’s okay, they’re not expected to, they’re a child that’s how they will behave. God gave us the child to train up not befriend (but ofc be loving let them know they can come to you)
My grandmother taught us using the plant in a pot analogy. When a plant is growing in the pot- back in the day they would stick I rod in the middle. Why? So the plant grows straight. It may grow around the rod but it has a guiding point. Parenting is the same way.

Jalon on the point about talking to your kids and giving them the attention they need is so vital. I have a 5 year old son and I ask him everyday how was school, what did you learn because that is very important to me. It also shows them how much you care about what’s going on with them in their times outside of their daily life at home. I’m now about to have a baby girl, and I definitely pride myself on the type of woman I am and never feeling the need to fit in with what others do is a top priority in raising her. It’s different for boys and girls, they definitely require different types of messages.

i needed this episode. raising a son as a single mother i’ve tried to be so much better with spending time with him, being stern without the aggression to get my point across and learning to cultivate his love languages. it’s rough out here, i’m praying for a father for him because i don’t ever want him to lack

Real stuff...Omar having a boy does the same thing. He looking at you even more. Literally like looking in a mirror. Being a single father of two...son & daughter. She learning how to be treated & loved from me...she's learning how a man provides..protects...having kids period change you for the better in my opinion.

You know, I appreciate you guy’s input on fatherhood. A big reason I am iffy on being a mother is bc I haven’t seen, in my immediate circle, men who can genuinely hold space for a woman and cherish her for all that she is and not only what she does for him. Being raised by a single mother and having an aloof dad has definitely played a big part in my experience with past partners. Hearing yall talk about your plans for your families and how to be the best parent gave me a glimmer of hope and got a little excited to start a family. I would be an amazing mother and co-parent, all I need is a wonderful man to match my energy in the connection. 🤗

Another thought… to pull your child out of school due to the gender/identity of their teacher is interesting because it shows your true beliefs on identity. To speak on your kids being different, or being themselves, what if your child chooses/feels as though they align with a different gender? That doesn’t necessarily have to do with what they see visually, it can truly be who they feel they are at their core? Especially if your influence over them starts at home. What are your thoughts on your child being gay or non binary?

I truly appreciated this conversation, cause y’all mentioned a lot about how to parent children that I agree with [ I don’t have kids yet ], but when I speak to other men about this they make it seem so domineering. I started to feel like men don’t have the balanced capability to a stern parent without the physical force [ whooping ] while also being present & attentive. Happy to know that if it exists here there’s more out there.
    Great job guys 👏🏾✨

I 100% agree with Jalon and Omar about being flexible as parents, at first your routine will be all over the place however you will eventually find your rhythm. Also there will be a season that the kids will have to come 1st before mum or dad for example 1st 3 months of baby 's life mum is still finding her feet and may not be up for some sexy time or dad may feel rejected because only mum can comfort baby all of this are normal but with communication and understanding you guys will get through it. And lastly always remember that you are a team, don't put too much pressure on being the partners that you were prior to having kids, things are different now just hold on to the fun sand sexy side of you guys lol🙂

Great podcast! However, with baseball it is a toughness you find in it. If you get it enough in the head with a mit, getting hit by a ball on purpose, the talking shit on base all comes in baseball. As well as when stealing a base and sliding into the bag, it gets physical for sureeee🤣🤣🤣

That’s impossible, but the Bible says train up a child in the way they should go and they won’t depart from it. I believe Omar is a Christian (although I saw him doing Ramadan, which I’m curious as to why he partakes in what Islamic people do to get closer to a false God, seriously I’d love to know his thought process) but nonetheless since he’s a Christian he can rest in that principle because Gods word doesn’t fail☺️
