    Excited (and a little nervous) to try doing a no buy year challenge for this year! Can't wait for the lessons and experiences it will bring and let me know what tips you have! 💖

    Great video! A couple of thing I would caution anyone against, is using up the last of your groceries and toiletries before buying more. You will save far more money if you purchase at least a few when items like toothpaste are on a good sale and then waiting until the next sale. Same for groceries. Only buy on sale, but good sales and pad your pantry. I don't know what region you live, but with some of the terrible weather events that have been happening more often in recent years, everyone should always have a minimum of 2 weeks of food and water. (I have friends and family that have al been snowed in, had massive hurricanes, extended power outages, forest fires, etc. and couldn't get to a store for a few weeks).However, a no spend/low spend is a perfect opportunity to do a serious food rotation/pantry challenge and make sure absolutely nothing is being wasted. I am in the middle of a pantry challenge right now and have emptied out a spare freezer to save on electricity. Good luck!

      Thanks so much for checking out the video and love these tips! Great things to consider and since we just moved to the east coast we are new to this kind of weather that can be more intense. Great idea to keep enough on hand in case anything happens 😊

    I've been low buy on most things non-beauty items for years as we have so much-- VLB on books and media for a decade now. Allowing 1-3 books per year, max, and then enjoying my local library instead. One caveat for me is, to make health exemptions for things like laundry care, clothes, skincare, cleaning products. You just never know when something will become a problem and need to be changed up. Good luck, this will be a great year for you!

    My advice is that even if you goof up and make a mistake, keep going! You are trending upward in your journey. Just get your boots on the ground and keep going toward the goal. You didn't fail. You learned a lesson along the way. I learned this from another UA-cam creator-Shawna Ripari.

    • @SamanthaRae.
      @SamanthaRae.  5 місяців тому +2

      That is such great advice! So true that it's key to keep going instead of letting slip ups and mistake totally derail you. Some of the best lessons I have learned have been from past mistakes. Thanks so much for the amazing advice 💖 I'll definitely have to check out Shawna Ripari and her content too! 😊

    Great video! I like the idea of a red light, yellow light, and green light list.
    I tried to do a low buy year last year but I kept pushing the parameters. Clothing & accessories are by far my greatest areas of weakness. I did break my fast fashion habit but I still bought too much off Poshmark. This year clothing & accessories are on my red light list.
    I also liked your idea of staying with the tried & true as opposed to always trying out new things. You mentioned cleaning products. For me it would be gourmet food products such as spice blends, hot sauces, fancy teas and such. Sometimes I’ve made new discoveries that have become tried & true items but I’ve also spent a lot of money on things I didn’t like. Sometimes I force myself to use it up but more often than not, it clutters up my cupboard for months, even years, until I finally get fed up and throw it out. Sticking with the tried & true is a concept I’m applying to my No Buy year, so thanks for sharing that idea!

      Aww thanks so much and really appreciate you checking out the video! Yeah going through and making these lists I realized there are a lot of categories that I struggle with when it comes to buying too much, so I have my work cut out for me this year 😅
      That's awesome that you've been focusing on buying less fast fashion, that is something I want to be mindful of in the future if there is a time I need to replace any clothing or when I want to add something to my closet in the future! I've heard great things about Poshmark! Any other great slow fashion brands or sites you recommend? 😊
      Yeah I totally went through the same thing of trying a bunch of stuff (spice blends and seasonsings were a weakness for me too lol) and ended up with so many extra of things that made my drawers and cupboards feel so cluttered and overwhelming. My goal is to stick with what I love and use up the rest of all those other things sitting around this year 💖 So excited we get to do this no buy journey together this year and keep me updated on how yours is going! 🤗

    We will be on a sorta, kinda low spend year. We have some bigger ticket items to fund and address this year so we will be spending but living a low spend lifestyle.

    Having been on almost bare bones and bare bones budgets on and off, dont forget to include maintenance on your low spend budget. Not doing maintenance can cost upto significantly more money in the long run.
    Conversely, if being frugal or saving money is the purpose of your low spend time frame, there can be times that making investment purchases are called for. For example, if packing versus buying lunch is on the list then having some food storage containers and some type of a bag or sack are in order. Even if saving on electricity is not on the list, switching to low wattage LED light bulbs would be an investment purchase. The key is that you must realize enough of a savings in a short amount of time to cover the cost of the purchase. This may mean you buy a few, realize a bit,of savings, and then biy a few more.
    d thrn buy

      @SamanthaRae.  6 місяців тому +1

      Yeah really good point, thanks so much! As we're starting this learning what items I might have forgotten to account for and some adjustments to make since it's our first time trying to do this. Definitely true that in some cases the investment is certainly worth it and saves you money in the long run 😊 Thanks so much for the insights!

    • @SamanthaRae.
      @SamanthaRae.  6 місяців тому +1

      Yeah I'm sure there is lots more we can cut out so this might be considered low instead of no buy perhaps. Lots that we are learning this first year trying it 😊

      @@SamanthaRae. Condider reassessing at the end of January to figure out what's working and not working/ a struggle physically, emotionally, and just in general. The at least at the end of each quarter. Seasonsl wardrobe changes can be a challenge. If you are like "everyone" you will build up a list of wants be it decor "stuff" for indoors or outdoors, often organizational items, or just plain clever things. Consider what you can diy out of items you own and items you can find for free. Remember, cardboard goes a long, long way for these types of things including kids toys. Fulfilling wants goes a long way during low spend times. If youce not created an heirloom out of your free stuff, it becomes all the easier to de-clutter when it's charm has faded.
