@@Little_farmhouse I totally understand, I have a nine year old and she keeps telling me how much make up her friends have. I wear even less makeup than you 😂, I remind her to moisturise, her whole body, and sunblock. She doesn't need anything else
I always wanted makeup, I grew up watching kdramas and wanting makeup from lancome due to product placement. It's crazy to me though that they have the money to buy these things, I still can't as an adult.
Lol I've bought four of those already this year... 😂 I try not to overconsume but I'll never stop buying plants. I start a lot from seed but some things like rosemary take soooo long to grow it's not worth it (and rosemary isn't hardy through my winter)
i appreciate your nod to those of us who opt out of trying to look younger. i haven't dyed my hair or had any "work" done (no judgement, honest) & people are always shocked when they find out my age (58); across the board everyone thinks im much older. the reason, i think, is that so many people have opted-in to looking youthful that we've lost a realistic frame of reference. this saddens me. i'm in great shape, dress well, hydrate and eat healthfully. having a bad knee and a bummed hip stinks, i don't think i rock. but i am glad i am modeling for my (adult) children what an un-touched boomer actually looks like
And it's only women this is expected of. Men don't do all these treatments and tweaks. There's nothing wrong with ageing. I'm glad you feel able to be yourself and not get involved with things you don't want ro
My favorite cousin will be 38 next month (on my birthday) and she has a lot of gray hair. She doesn't wear makeup, hair is always in a low bun, and does woodworking. I look up to her because she seems comfortable with who she is. She shows me you don't need makeup to be beautiful. I don't wear much makeup (eyeshadow and mascara when I do) and my boyfriend thinks I'm beautiful without it.
When I was a teenager and twen I loved henna and non-permanent hair colour and played around with that quite a bit. And then came the first grey hairs and I stopped. I like them, I embrace them and now in my late 40s they are still quite well mixed in my dark hair, but slowly, slowly an all grey strand is forming at the right side of my forehead. I've always hoped that I'd inherit that from my mother and grandmother... And tadaaaaaaa, there it comes! 😀
@@grreeeeeeBecause people only have so much room in their homes. When the latest hyper-consumerism product is the rage people will need to clean out space in their homes to store them.
I am so glad you mentioned botox. I´m 49 years old, and I love beauty, but I try to celebrate beauty my own way. Proudly showing my grey hair and wrinkles. I almost died when I was 36 years old, so to me getting older actually - and honestly - feels good.
More on fabric softener: it coats the fibres of your clothes to make it feel "soft", which is pretty bad for a few reasons. 1. if you use it on any athletic/active, linen, or cotton clothes, it will make them completely non-breathable, because it seals the small holes in the fabric, and hence ruins them. 2. it also coats the inside of your washing machine, and it's a leading cause of machine breakdowns! 3. their heavy synthetic fragrances can be very irritating to children/sensitive skin in general. If you still feel like you want to use something to make your fabric more soft, add a bit of vinegar to your load!!
Yes they are so irritating to the skin especially children’s sensitive skin! My son’s eczema was getting worse even with all the creams I was using, once I stopped using fabric conditioner and scent booster beads it completely cleared!
I love the part about Botox. I think it is so important to talk about how much consumption and spending is generated by the idea that going through changes in life and growing old is something that we need to prevent at all costs, instead of embracing and celebrating. At 43, I have quite a few gray hairs and also a few wrinkles, especially around my eyes. Like you, I am not saying I'll love them forever (or maybe I will), but I am embracing the changes and celebrating them as proof of the life well lived I enjoyed so far!
I think it was a book called The Skin I'm In where a teacher had a birthmark on her face and explained to her class how she loves herself. One line I have always remembered goes something like "I love my laugh lines/crows feet because it shows that I love to laugh" I just love that. I love my stretch marks because they show that I have curves despite being a petite woman
I love that you saw lines in your face and were like "oh cool new milestone". That's EXACTLY the neutral reaction we need to these normal changes! Normalize getting older! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I am convinced you would like the type of mistery box i'm getting: It's a box with quality orgabic fruits and vegetables from a local grower. It motivates me to try out vegetables i've never cooked with before, try new recipes and Cook more from Scratch in general. Also: If there is something in it i really don't like or can't eat (i'm allergic to seleri), i gift it to my parents or friends. So far this works very well for me. 😊
There are natural mica deposits in the area where I live. I don't do glitter but I can't tell you how much I love getting my shoes, legs, and pants coated in natural glitter whenever I go on hikes.
I really don’t understand the Stanley cup hype either. They don’t even look that practical and easy to clean, and who needs to keep their drink cool for 48h?? If you haven’t finished your water in 48h there’s a problem lololol 😅
@@sustainfemisn’t that the amount of water you’re supposed to drink in a day? I always heard it’s around 2 L per day for a regular person. So for water that cup doesn’t seem crazy to me. For other drink tho… ooof Stanley cup craze is insane either way
As a gastric bypass patient who can’t gulp so I have to walk around all day with a cup in my hand and i prefer it to be cold so I do need my drink to stay colder for longer 😂😂😂but with saying all of that I did fall in love with yettis 5 years ago but I also found a cup at Walmart on the discount isle for $6 by a brand named Bubba and I will fight someone about that cup 😂😂😂 now my aunt bought me a Stanley and I’m not impressed
The Stanley cup thing truly baffles me. When I first heard about the brawls over a pink Stanley cup, I thought hockey fans were becoming more unhinged than usual and also was confused about why it was pink. But no. My great-grandfathers carried their Stanley lunch pails and thermoses to work in the mill. My grandparents did the same and carried thermoses on Sunday drives in the 1940s and 50s. My dad and uncles carried them to the woods, hunting and fishing in the 70s. I still have one of those.
Great list! I actually wasn't aware of how harmful paraffin candles are for our health. I knew about the environmental impact, but not about the health one. As someone who is already struggling with respiratory infections, I'll definitely cut down the amount of tea lights I burn for a cosy evening. Don't want to quit candles, but next time I'm running out I'll try to restock with soy candles! Thank you!
hi! I have a cat (and an anxiety disorder) so I don't burn any candles anymore, I got LED ones with timers and while they obviously aren't the same thing (no scent, no warmth) they do a very good job of creating a cozy athmosphere and I don't have to "put them out" before going to sleep since they go off by themselves :) recommend them a lot!
@@hazaldenizaygun7339 that's an option as well, but I do prefer "real ones" by far. With a cat the electric ones are definitely the bettet option, though :D
I got cats and since then I don't burn parrafin indoors. I had a hard time finding soy candles for affordable prices and overall it has led to me using less candles overall somehow
Just a friendly reminder that botox is also used medically and the medical protocol calls for (in small part) some of the places where people would get it cosmetically - the other 50 injections are not in the cosmetic zones and many cosmetic zones are not covered by the medical protocol. For serious pain, it's been such a blessing for me and I haven't even considered getting botox in the places cosmetically that don't get touched in the medical protocol. As a medication, it's just wonderful.
Absolutely a miracle for my otherwise unavoidable TMJ. I have actually used it a bit on some cosmetic areas, as well. "We have a few cc's left, want me to... "? and it has been a good transitional tool for me as my 50s have hit me hard, visually. This is not something I ever considered until everything started falling apart - in my 40s I assumed I would thoroughly enjoy growing old gracefully. I also dyed my hair for a couple of years, but recently stopped covering my gray. I took those couple of years to immerse myself in images of people of my ethnicity and remind myself - this is what my face is intended to look like. Other people can even be considered attractive with these features that are appearing on my face. Botox and hair dye bought me a couple of years to adjust to sudden changes and make peace with the fact that I will die sooner, rather than later, covered in the evidence of some hard life experiences and illnesses resulting from those experiences. Backing away from cosmetic botox and hair dye is easier after the emotional processing of grief.
I'm on year 3 of having my apple watch and I really like it for it's fitness/health tracking abilities. I love that it tracks my workouts, will give me reminders to drink water/take supplements, stand up after sitting for an hour+, or keep me on track of my calendar appointments. It's definitely not a necessity but it sure is a nice to have if you're someone that also wants to stay on top of these things. Having this little device has strangely enough cut my screen time down.
As someone with medical conditions my Apple Watch is literally necessary for me. It helps alert me to my POTS When I don’t realize I’m having an episode. Also helped me learn that my oxygen is cutting off at night
As a person who has a type of migraine diagnosis (status migranous aka intractable migraines) I have a medical reason for getting Botox. It's also useful for treating muscles that are super tight (commonly found in patients with quite specific severe medical diagnoses).
Yes! This is what is was originally meant to be used for! Do you remember an episode of dr.House where he injects it in a someones vocall cords and they can speak again? I also have migraines and it is THE WORST PAIN
god yes I've been researching getting Botox for some uhh extra sweaty patches on my body but even that I'm kinda against. Can't imagine putting literal toxins (yea yea it's safe) in my face just to hide wrinkles :D
I was thinking of getting Botox this year because I suffer from very severe bruxism 😢 I’m going to the osteopath atm and I’m feeling slightly better… this is giving me extra time to think about it 😂 I’m a little bit scared to do it!
@@itslauracanoi got it in my maseter muscle for the first time in november 23 as I was so bad with clenching my jaw. Very easy and not painful at all to get the injections. Took about 10 days to feel the effect. The release felt great. Unfortunately, it only lasted until two weeks ago. It was 450€ and I am not sure if I would go back. I think it is too expensive for only 9-10 weeks. But I am glad I tried 😅
I totally agree everything you said, I have my anti haul list too and there are many similar things with yours. But as a food/chemistry engineer I must point that edible doesnt mean you can benefit from certain nutrients, edible means you can eat and it has no harm for your body. So ofcourse im not saying go and eat all the edible glitters out there :) but i just had to say it :))
I bought a Stanley Lunch Box and a Stanley cup off of facebook marketplace for about 1/2 the original price. I didn’t get it for the trend, but the utility, the lunch box has become my traveling art kit for its durability (i might have knocked it off the side of a cliff once) and the cup fits perfectly inside for my cleaning water. Both have little dents and smudges of paint on them now and have so much character.
A-WO-MAN!!!! How have I not found you sooner?! Thank you for being real and being the change the earth needs. I live this way as well and just thank you.
One rule I have for myself to help with more conscious consumption is to never buy something to cover up an insecurity, or rather to never let a company profit off of my insecurity.
I love your videos! I won't be buying paper towels. I've finally got my bf using used rags I got from the thrift store to clean up messes and clean the house. I never noticed how many paper towels he goes through. We have a rags bucket and clean them really well and reuse them! Keep the zero waste videos coming!
Interesting that you talked about this pantry-p*rn thing. It makes me giggle because my husband falled into this trap. At one point last year we talked about replacing some old plastic containers to store dry foods. He mentioned we could use nice jars. Ok. no big deal. Now all our stuff is stored in appelsauce and pickel jars. Otherwise they would have gone to the recycling.
Yay for plants!! I love collecting seeds from gardens or going to friends houses and asking them gor cuttings... not all will grow but this is such a cool thing to do!
I am doing a no buy year for clothing, accessories, and shoes - and we are doing a "make do" year for everything else (basically, buy it if it's a need, but otherwise make do). The Stanley cup thing is wild to me. I have a second hand contigo that has been dropped, dented, etc. and is still kickin'. It just came with me on a trip and not a single leak. I love that thing! I feel like we already have way too much stuff as it is, I don't want any more stuff to manage!
That's the thing about dryer balls though, if you bought them at any point in the past, you won't have to buy them again for ages. I've been using my same set of six for 4 years now and they're still going strong. So I won't be buying any this year either. 😂 Incidentally, for anyone giving up fabric softener this year, dryer balls can help ease that transition. They help keep clothes separate and moving around the dryer so the clothes come out softer and fluffier, with less static.
And the clothes dry faster, so less everything is used. I got a $5 wooden rack for the porch and love hanging lightweight items outside. Uses „ free“ energy. ❤
thank you for this educational video! can you speak on the impact of unscented beeswax candles with cotton wick in terms of environmental impact and indoor air pollution?? would love to hear about that :)
I have followed you for ages! And every video makes my mind set change that little bit more .. (for the better) .. I never thought I could stop fast fashion thinking I can't afford to, but they are such bad quality and now I buy second hand and buy one off nice items that last , and I don't no why but I fe3l so much better every time I male a change it just feels so good 😊 thank you ❤️
This is my first time leaving a comment, but I wanted to say that I enjoyed your “no buy” list. Definitely, no to Botox! I’m in my late 50’s and I plan to continue aging naturally. (That’s not to say that I’m perfectly happy with my face. I just don’t want to spend the time and money.). I also don’t wear any makeup but I’m usually thought to be younger(most guesses 38-45 years old). I too plan to end shopping for plants, but that’s due to not having the space for more. Happy Birthday wishes🎉. I also have a birthday in two weeks time. Wishing us both on having a great one. 😊
I love the way you deliver your takes on these things! Straight to the point, also with a kind communication style and looking it from every different angle. Thanks for your content ❤
For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I'll be happy that I have the kislux as my travel bag that I don't have to take care of. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
Yeah, I bought the dryer balls to try (a long time ago), I still have them in my dryer. I did conclude they do not dry clothes faster, and they make A LOT of noise banging around in the dryer. I live in apartment and I'm sure my neighbors are annoyed when I dry my clothes. It would be awesome to dry clothes out on my balcony, but we are not allowed. The only thing the balls might be good for is keeping items separated when drying, but that's stretching it. As a matter of fact, I'm getting rid of them... right now! 😉
I never thought the premise was about drying them faster…😂I always understood the premise to be an alternative to dryer sheets to help remove static. I like my wool dryer balls to eliminate static and I put essential oils in them which I like because they are natural and I can decide the scents myself without the chemicals. Although now that I have way fewer synthetic fibers in my wardrobe, I have way less static in the dryer -no polyester!!!
This is a great video and I agree with you on most of the items you are talking about. Most of which, I have never consumed. I do like dryer balls because I think they keep my clothing from getting too wrinkled. I used sunscreen and a good mild cleanser most of my life. I think most of skincare and makeup is just a marketing scheme. Now, at nearly 70 I feel I need more and see a difference afterward.
Thank you for putting your perspective out there. I think you are on point 100%. I am so over all of the consumerism and clutter! I am so adamantly opposed to our identities and value as humans being confused, judged and assessed based on our consumption of trends, products, and brands
I agree with all these things! Also wanted to mention that proper skincare (not trendy or expensive), especially sunscreen every day, works better to make my skin look healthy than botox did anyway.
I did buy a Stanley Quencher cup last year😅 BUT only because I LOVE my Stanley to-go cup and have had it for years. And I chose it in my favourite colour and plan on using it forever 💜 It’s helped me up my daily water intake!
I think buying them within reason is fine. Just make sure you use it enough to neutralize the impact of production. It’s people buying more than they need or can even reasonably use that’s the issue
I totally agree with you on the things you won't buy this year. I also found it crazy when I heared that people still hype the Stanley cup that much since I didn't really get it from the beginning. All the more crazy that there are people who have them in 20 different colors! Clothing with big brand names or logos has never been something for me because I just don't like the look of it, so I haven't bought merch until now, and aren't planning on it, if it isn't really something I like to have and wear without a big Logo on it. My sister has some Lidl and Aldi socks since last year or the year before they brought out the merch and she liked them, because they only have the logo subtle on it - another hype I didn't really get.
Curious question: How do you feel about having branded clothes when they are a good and sustainable brand like Patagonia, The Parks Project, Cotopaxi, etc?
@@sarahkinsey5434 the OP didn't answer you, so I'm gonna be the annoying person who butts in on other people's conversations! AFAIAC - absolutely No logos on my clothing, even small brand logos somewhere in the corner, sustainable or not. I am not a billboard to advertise on. It completely baffles me that people are willing to pay to become an advertising space! (also Patagonia isn't as sustainable as they claim. Better than shein or hm, of course, but not as good as they claim or want to seem, and that whole "donating my fortune" gimmick was basically a clever scheme to keep money in family without paying taxes)
Refreshing to hear someone say they're looking forward to turning 30. All of my late-20s friends make a big deal out of "being old" and jokingly get mad when they're reminded of their age. I think it's sad! I'm 22 right now and getting older is something I'm excited about. The pressure of making my 20s the "best years of my life" feels quite silly - there's more to life than just youth.
can you make a video on how to sustainably soften your clothes, and/or your clothes washing routine? i find there's a lot of conflicting information on how often to wash certain types of clothes and certain materials, and i struggle to keep up with handwashing of delicate clothes, especially knits and things that can't hang dry and need to be dried flat
I'm accidentally not buying into a lot of the things listed here because of my sensitivities. My skin is super sensitive and will break out in welts, rashes and blisters if it's in prolonged or repeated contact with many things that are derived from petrochemicals; mainly synthetic fabrics, petroleum based skincare and cosmetic ingredients, and fragrances. I make my own clothes because most store-bought clothes, even those labeled as made with 100% natural fibers, will still have seams that were sewn with polyester or nylon thread. I try to make my clothes as durable as possible and take care of them, because it's my time and labor that is wasted if they wear out too quickly. My husband is a chemical technologist. He makes the laundry detergent and dish washing soap we use, without toxic chemicals and fragrances. He has his own sensitivities with his lungs because he had asthma as a child. So everything in our house is fragrance free. I often feel like those of us with sensitivities are like canaries in a coal mine. The stew of toxic chemicals all around us is noticeably affecting us first. But I believe you are right, that overexposure to all of these toxic chemicals will eventually sensitize all of us.
I have similar sensitivities. I save so much money not buying skincare, candles, fabric softener etc. i stick to bar soap and eco non-bio laundry detergent. I don't bother with make up due to allergies. I do however have a problem with collecting plastic gadgets etc on Amazon. I need to work on that to buy much much less.
I like your point about "We deserve so much better". I got into knirting a few years ago and now when I go to H&M etc and I see their knitwear all I can think is "That is not worth my money". (I get that some people don't have the means to shop outside fast fashion and depending on your size thrifting isn't always an option.)
As a 30 year old woman who just had a baby via c section I have noticed alot of changes to my body and skin. But I am really trying to embrace those changes. My stretch marks, sagging skin, and c section scar indicate that my body created a life. And for every woman who is upset about those signs on their body's, there is another woman who would give anything to have the opportunity to bear those marks. I've noticed fine lines start to appear as well. To that I say, aging Is a privilege, it's not a right. Not everyone grows old enough to bear those marks. ❤❤❤
When I watched your Christmas season antihaul I was quite happy that I typically don't buy any of the items that you mentioned, and in this video, I'm pleased to say the same. I got a new Fitbit for Christmas which I suppose is similar to an Apple Watch, but I am hoping/expecting it to last for quite a while without needing to be replaced.
A very insightful video itâs interesting how sometimes people buy replicas and then pretend they are the real thing, which in a way feeds into that sense of exclusivity that discourages people from buying the real thing in the first kislux ! Like the drama that happened on the reality show Singles in Hell
I like watching the restock videos and inspiration (or the comments) of how to best store products. Also how to make everything more accessible. Tho I do tend to use second hand products so my best storage method is going very slowly lol
I love that you specifically mentioned anti-hauling fast home decor. I think considering a piece you'll keep out to create your home environment is entirely different than buying the next new tablescape or candleholder. Alongside clothes, home decor is the most prevalent type of item in every thrift store I've ever been to. Shelves and shelves of holiday decor, baskets, glassware like jars and candleholders. It all feels like such a waste. I have a small group of home decor items that I plan to keep for many years which help shift my home seasonally. More is definitely not more in this instance. Having totes and totes of seasonal decor that *might* come out once a year seems like such a waste.
I too love repurposing jars for food and anything else storage. I used to save the large Spinach box containers to store my shoes in so they wouldn’t get dusty. Does anyone know what is a good substitute for the fabric softener? I don’t use it to soften my clothing g , I use it for the scent, but I’d be open to other scents ( just not patchouli). I’ve heard of people using essential oils with those wooly balls. Any other ways to make the items in the dryer fragrant ?
Yo girlie…your leg tattoos are awesome. I am a tattoo shop owner who preaches zero waste which is so hard in this industry. But things are getting better and better, love your content.
About mistery boxes, the ones for pets can be very good. That way you can switch up the enrichment for ur pets. Because pets can't go online and choose what they want to play whit:)
I love my garden & houseplants but have become so uncomfortable about plastic pots & the use of peat in the compost used that I too have decided to stop buying new plants. I’ll divide what I have, grow from seed, use my home made compost & re-use all the plastic pots I’ve collected. It’s ironic that garden centres - in the uk at least - are the least ‘green’ places of all.
I loved this video:) I probably won't be buying literally anything that you mentioned in your list. Candles are the only thing but to be fair I do make my own and it gives me the control over the scent and the type of wax and wick I get to use. It's a whole other convo. I would also add viral make up to the list for myself. I love beauty and make up especially green beauty. I'm just getting to the point now where I'm super not drawn to the influencer promoted make up brands. My vibe is now supporting smaller brands that aren't hyped up on tiktok and brands with sustainable packaging where I can just buy the refills. It feels like far more logical to me than to constantly feel like I have to keep up with the latest beauty trend. Thank you for your informative vid 😊
The Stanley cups were sold out at the store by me. They had a big sign. I didn’t understand what the fuss was about. Weird

Hello , I am new here, and I just want to say, that I am glad I found your channel ! It is very interesting and natural :) I am also turning 30 this year in the beginning of March ;) and am loking forward to it. Of course I have some things I stress about sometimes, but I honestly am happy in any part of my life jurney, and every year brings something else, different. I think that growing up and aging is the beauty of life, we just have to learn to accept it and stop trying to go against it... Now....I am going to binge watch some of your videos :DD: have a nice day! ;)
I actually can't think of a single category of item I wont be buying this year. All I intend to do is keep doing what I did last year (that is actually a suggestion you gave in a video some time ago): when I feel I need to buy something, let it rest for ten days or so instead of going out and buying the thing immediately. It is unbelievable how this trick reveals what is actually necessary. Also, not completely related to this topic but this year I'll do the shameless thing and decide with my friends what we are going to give each other as a present for birthdays, Xmas etc... Enough with the too many sweets/shower gels and beauty lotions (in plastic, ofc).
Oh, how I wish my friends would do this for presents! I did ask them to donate to a food pantry or animal shelter instead of giving me physical gifts, but they will not listen. One of them gave me a plastic "champagne" bottle that had even more plastic inside encasing 8 tiny nail polish bottles. I had to literally cut them out of the bottle and the hard plastic was cutting my fingers. At this point, I don't know how else to get them to avoid giving me items encased in plastic, lotions, etc.
We agreed to no gifts with all the friends. Only for bdays and only sent links to what you need. If someone sais I don't need anything we respect it. It takes so much preasure of
All of the items are on my not interested list except the dryer balls - for me they work. I timed them. But if you don’t use a dryer the you definitely don’t need them. I do buy containers for some food items for a variety of reasons and it has made a big difference in a number of ways. And Stanley cups. I believe they are a pretty good product- the old thermos I have is certainly well made - but I have a bottle I prefer. But the reusable bottles if you are dedicated makes a big difference in the amount of household waste generated.
The Stanley cup craziness is really annoying me as well. The whole purpose of the video with the burning car was to show that Stanleys are really for a lifetime but instead people started to buy more and more. They literally have lifetime guarantee from the company. Why would anyone need more than only one? Treating quality brands such as Stanley, as a fast fashion brand really infuriates me. You don't need two of the same cup. You will not be able to wear and tear down the cup in a lifetime like the fast fashion items. I am really sad to see these people buy more and more meanwhile we are trying to make a difference
I also hang dry my laundry. I order my laundry detergent from Drops and it comes in a glass bottle and I switch my pump from the used bottle. I am not buying anything I don’t need this year 😊❤
Thank you so much for your really down to earth, wise thoughts and frankly, brave video. You are such a inspiration in the world overwhelmed by loud advertisements from greedy companies and silly influencers....please, share more of refreshing and sober ideas.
I donated my candles and wax melts and bought local beeswax candles but honestly? Nothing compares to the smell of beautiful things in a slow cooker like apple cores and orange peels and pine tassels
Wow … I was really mourning not being able to purchase candles on my No Buy this year but this information really helps. I really don’t understand all the ways fossil fuels are used especially in clothing. I don’t know how ready I am to research but I’m becoming more open to learning & asking for gifts from female owned small & sustainable businesses … but I fear I’ll need to get over the what feels daunting task of researching.
I completely understand how it can be overwhelming, if it helps, I have several videos that cuts the research time short. In the fashion/beauty playlist there is a pretty recent video about polyester impact, which might be a good place to start 🥰
I use eco egg laundry egg, it's little beads inside an egg,you pop in with every wash ,no need for softener , you get 70 washes for each pack of beads, great for sensitivity, it only costs about seven pounds, i have been using mine for about six months now. I have excema and it's good for me.
Thank you for this, amazing video (as always!) I've only just heard about the Stanley Flask trend and I'm just horrified by it, I thought one flask was supposed to last decades and be practical and well-used, not trendy!
As someone old enough to be your mother (my daughter is only a year younger than you) and is growing older naturally, I am loving listening to you talk about ageing gracefully. I've never had Botox or plastic surgery or any other procedures and am enjoying my uniqueness. Yes, I did have 1 plastic surgery at age 20, but we do not count that as vanity as it was to correct a big defect which affected daily life.
Stanley is a car cup as it fits in cup holders which many bottles and tumblers don’t do. You also don’t need to take the lid of whilst driving. I can see the practicality if you drive a lot etc. But 12 year old girls do not need one! Sticking with my straw Hydroflask thank you
I literally just bought wool dryer balls. Dang it. My dryer is not drying so good lately and everything I read online about them raved about them. I have not used them yet, so we'll see if they help. Edit: A great video though! Also currently reading Sustainable Badass and I am learning so much! Edit #2: They don't help drying time! GRRRR! If only I waited like two days and saw this video!
The Apple Watch was a life changer for me because I live an active outdoor life. Having the phone with me is uncomfortable, but also it helps track my health better, which I need to do. I have it for 2 years now. It shows only the notifications I chose. So it's not overwhelming 😅 I will use it until it stops working or falls apart. I won't buy a new one just because mine is a few years old and there are new ones in the market 😅
I didn't think I needed an Apple Watch. However, my son gave me a used Apple Watch, because I'm in my 70's and I am prone to falling. It will call emergency if I fall. I feel much more secure.
I am not buying gym memberships & gym clothes as I have enough clothes, and the membership is expensive. I recently bought adjustable dumbbells and a bench... a bit pricey at first but in the long run its cheaper (also you can find second hand ones)
I recently bought a new car. There was badging for the dealership on the car. I had asked them to remove the badging before I left the dealership. They said they couldn't do that. I responded with either it comes off or 5k comes off the price tag for advertising. The badging came off. Why should I pay over $40k for a new vehicle and do free advertising for the dealership?
Loved the bit about botox, I'm 36 next month and began to get botox and lip filler around the age of 30. I'm due a top up however have made the conscious decision not to, I don't want to be doing this all my life and think lines on others look beautiful 🌿🖤✨️
I try not to use my dryer whenver I can but we do use dryer balls instead of dryer sheets because they are much more sustainable. I think that is why a lot of people use dryer balls instead.
Fabric softeners make clothes feel weird to me, my family never used them. I actually prefer the stiffness of line-dried fabrics, but am renting in an apartment that doesn't have the ability to line dry. Also go out of my way to avoid Wish, Temu and Shein--I got the ick from the first few ads I saw for either, and heard about poor quality and I just noped out.
For the wool dryer balls - I live in an apartment and the driers are terrible. I used to have to run the dry cycle 2-3 times to get my clothes dry. I started using the dryer balls and now its down to 1 cycle to dry. I dont think it needs to be a wool dryer ball, I feel like I could have used old tennis balls, but having items in their to fluff the clothes as it spins have significantly helped
u could try hang drying ur clothes on a drying rack inside and then just throwing in the dryer once they're already dry to dewrinkle. this is what ive done for 10 years, and it has helped my energy bill and helps clothes last wayyyy longer.
I really enjoyed your video! However there are few things from this list i have been wanting/need to replace something else. First, the Stanley Quencher. My mom gifted me a stanley thermos mug with a screw on lid more than 10 years ago and, while really beaten, scuffed up and wobbling on the table, it’s still going strong. However, i have an old starbucks thermos that has a broken lid, so it leaks and i can’t find a replacement or fix, so Quencher is something i’ve looking at for a long while to replace the poor little starbucks cup. Second, Skims. My closet is very small and i rarely buy clothes, especially for the summer as the summers here are sp short, so when i saw a dress from skims that i really like (that one maxi with spaghetti straps) i really had my heart set on it. It would also be perfect for my changing body as my wight tends to fluctuate. Third, an apple watch. I really didn’t like apple for many years, but the first iphone se that i have for five years already is the perfect size. Given that i am already in the apple ecosystem (i have a mb air too, always repairing stuff to keep my devices going) i decided i want to get a used older apple watch so it is compatible with such an “old” iphone to track my workouts and steps as i have gotten into working out over the last year to keep myself healthy. All of these choices have been thought out and reconsidered for months so i get the most use of my things. Everything else on your list i can completely agree on. Well thought out choices have the most lasting effect.
I find it so frightening how literal children are being influenced to want to buy makeup and skincare products. It's not made for their skin!
Parents need to deinfluence them
more.
Parents need to be more aware of what their kids watch on social media. Imo kids shouldn't be on any social media.
@@Little_farmhouseMy son is 20 and doesn't have any social media. He thinks it's a wast of time. I'm not on any socials either, just youtube😉

Lol I've bought four of those already this year... 😂 I try not to overconsume but I'll never stop buying plants. I start a lot from seed but some things like rosemary take soooo long to grow it's not worth it (and rosemary isn't hardy through my winter)
A friend of mine I suggested she start a plant exchange on FB. Basically people propagate plants and just trade with each other. 😊
absolutely banger idea 🙌
We have a few that popped up during the pandemic. They're lovely!
We do that inmy neighborhood every spring when it comes to getting plants for the garden 🌱🌻🌹🥕🥔🍆🌽🌶🫑🍅🍓🥬🥒🧄🧅🫘🫛
I love that!
That's very popular in my town!
i appreciate your nod to those of us who opt out of trying to look younger. i haven't dyed my hair or had any "work" done (no judgement, honest) & people are always shocked when they find out my age (58); across the board everyone thinks im much older.
the reason, i think, is that so many people have opted-in to looking youthful that we've lost a realistic frame of reference. this saddens me. i'm in great shape, dress well, hydrate and eat healthfully.
having a bad knee and a bummed hip stinks, i don't think i rock. but i am glad i am modeling for my (adult) children what an un-touched boomer actually looks like
And it's only women this is expected of. Men don't do all these treatments and tweaks. There's nothing wrong with ageing. I'm glad you feel able to be yourself and not get involved with things you don't want ro
Thank you! It helps younger people to not give in to the pressure!
You're not a boomer at 58,you're Gen X.❤
I can only imagine how many Stanley cups second hand stores are accumulating and will accumulate
I would say, that it will be lucky if they finish in the second hand store instead of trash bins.

Omg that might explains why the texture feels like it changes
This needs to be said way more 💚
Get back to us when you’re 63 girls
I think it was a book called The Skin I'm In where a teacher had a birthmark on her face and explained to her class how she loves herself. One line I have always remembered goes something like "I love my laugh lines/crows feet because it shows that I love to laugh" I just love that. I love my stretch marks because they show that I have curves despite being a petite woman
I didn’t start Botox until I was 55, I’m 57 now and I actually like how my forehead looks so I continue to do it. I will never get filler though.
They also leak like crazy! I just don’t get it 🙄
And aren't some them 64 ounces (1,818 ml)?? No one needs that much of any liquid!!
@@sustainfemisn’t that the amount of water you’re supposed to drink in a day? I always heard it’s around 2 L per day for a regular person. So for water that cup doesn’t seem crazy to me. For other drink tho… ooof
Stanley cup craze is insane either way
As a gastric bypass patient who can’t gulp so I have to walk around all day with a cup in my hand and i prefer it to be cold so I do need my drink to stay colder for longer 😂😂😂but with saying all of that I did fall in love with yettis 5 years ago but I also found a cup at Walmart on the discount isle for $6 by a brand named Bubba and I will fight someone about that cup 😂😂😂 now my aunt bought me a Stanley and I’m not impressed
You manage it all the time to make a video simple and educational at the same time. Thanks for great content❤
Thank you so much for watching!
Happy Early Birthday 🎉🎉🎉. As a woman who is 52, I agree 100% to celebrate the changes that come with age.
thank youuuu ✨✨
I'm simply not buying any new clothes or new shoes this year... I will thrift what I need in person at a local shop.
Thank you!
It is definitely a good idea to cut down, and switch out the paraffin wax ones 🙌🙌
I have open shelves and decant. I tend to use vintage and antique ceramic and glassware from charity shops.
I woukd love to see younger people wearing sunblock. The ultimate skincare item!
I don't use fabric softeners either. I like my fabrics to be a little bit crisp. Very good points!
That's the thing about dryer balls though, if you bought them at any point in the past, you won't have to buy them again for ages.
I've been using my same set of six for 4 years now and they're still going strong.
So I won't be buying any this year either. 😂
Incidentally, for anyone giving up fabric softener this year, dryer balls can help ease that transition. They help keep clothes separate and moving around the dryer so the clothes come out softer and fluffier, with less static.
an alternative is to clean an repurpose old tennis balls if you find some
@@ozok17I was going to say the same. My family has had a pack of 3 tennis balls for like a decade or more
And the clothes dry faster, so less everything is used.
I got a $5 wooden rack for the porch and love hanging lightweight items outside. Uses „ free“ energy. ❤
thank you for this educational video! can you speak on the impact of unscented beeswax candles with cotton wick in terms of environmental impact and indoor air pollution?? would love to hear about that :)
the environmental impact of any non-parafin wax candles is tons better ✨
you’re literally my comfort person i love you kislux !
also a happy birthday to you as well!
I love the way you deliver your takes on these things! Straight to the point, also with a kind communication style and looking it from every different angle.

Ps. How do you dry your clothes on a line naturally without them being stiff and crusty ?
Woah, you had me until scented candles!!! But you raise a great point. Thanks for this video. I need more of this to keep me from running to target!
The variety of textures in the kislux pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
The pressure of making my 20s the "best years of my life" feels quite silly - there's more to life than just youth.
the botox part made me really happy
can you make a video on how to sustainably soften your clothes, and/or your clothes washing routine? i find there's a lot of conflicting information on how often to wash certain types of clothes and certain materials, and i struggle to keep up with handwashing of delicate clothes, especially knits and things that can't hang dry and need to be dried flat
I need to work on that to buy much much less.
fabric softener is so unnecessary any way!! I've stopped using it in around 2017 and have noticed no difference tbh :D
Currently low key bingeing your videos. New sub, loving your vibe and your opinions! Thank you! ❤
Most of those marks will fade or be minimized over time. Rest, enjoy your new baby and remodeled body and life!❤
When I watched your Christmas season antihaul I was quite happy that I typically don't buy any of the items that you mentioned, and in this video, I'm pleased to say the same. I got a new Fitbit for Christmas which I suppose is similar to an Apple Watch, but I am hoping/expecting it to last for quite a while without needing to be replaced.
Oh Girl I turned 30 2 weeks ago & I feel better than ever and I also think I look truly beautiful - lots of love to you ❤
A very insightful video itâs interesting how sometimes people buy replicas and then pretend they are the real thing, which in a way feeds into that sense of exclusivity that discourages people from buying the real thing in the first kislux !
Love you, love your video and everything you stand for. Thank you so much for saying ageing women are beautiful 😊❤
Thank you Gittemary, this was a good one. Especially liked the bit about the plants.
Scary about the young girl skincare trend. Agree with your non buy items. Thanks for your channel.
My mom bought one kislux and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
Thank you for the reminder about merchandising!
The Stanley cups were sold out at the store by me. They had a big sign. I didn’t understand what the fuss was about. Weird
Hello , I am new here, and I just want to say, that I am glad I found your channel !
It is very interesting and natural :)
I am also turning 30 this year in the beginning of March ;) and am loking forward to it.
@@sustainfem what a terrible present! Why would anyone even think of a product like that?!? I really hope you'll manage somehow to convince them 🤞
We agreed to no gifts with all the friends. Only for bdays and only sent links to what you need. If someone sais I don't need anything we respect it. It takes so much preasure of
@@micivalantincic8227 that's a great idea, too!
Shout out to Gittemary for singing a little Cutting Crew at the start of the video. My 1986 highschool self thanks you. 🎵🎶👩🎤
forever a vibe 😎
You have a new follower. The list of anti-haul adds nothing to the quality of my life and I won’t be buying any of it. Love your ethos!
@@Gittemary yes thank you 🖤
Amen sister, Amen! Agree 👍
I use eco egg laundry egg, it's little beads inside an egg,you pop in with every wash ,no need for softener , you get 70 washes for each pack of beads, great for sensitivity, it only costs about seven pounds, i have been using mine for about six months now. I have excema and it's good for me.
Thank you for this, amazing video (as always!)
I've only just heard about the Stanley Flask trend and I'm just horrified by it, I thought one flask was supposed to last decades and be practical and well-used, not trendy!
those stanley cups will outlive all of us lol
As someone old enough to be your mother (my daughter is only a year younger than you) and is growing older naturally, I am loving listening to you talk about ageing gracefully. I've never had Botox or plastic surgery or any other procedures and am enjoying my uniqueness. Yes, I did have 1 plastic surgery at age 20, but we do not count that as vanity as it was to correct a big defect which affected daily life.
♥️🥹
I won't buy a new one just because mine is a few years old and there are new ones in the market 😅
also: consider getting the battery replaced if that wears out first, rather than replacing the whole thing
Yay for birthdays and getting older! 🥰🥂 Happy birthday Gittemary 🥳 My birthday is in January as well 💛🎉
HEY kislux I have been watching you for years and im so proud of where you have made it! I love you so much! Also thanks for making my day
I didn't think I needed an Apple Watch. However, my son gave me a used Apple Watch, because I'm in my 70's and I am prone to falling. It will call emergency if I fall. I feel much more secure.
I am not buying gym memberships & gym clothes as I have enough clothes, and the membership is expensive. I recently bought adjustable dumbbells and a bench... a bit pricey at first but in the long run its cheaper (also you can find second hand ones)
happy birthday in advance!! 🎈
thank youuuu ✨✨
"That's what she said" 😄 you never stop surprising me hahaha thanks for another great video ❤
I love these points. ❤
Well thought out choices have the most lasting effect.
thanks for your amazing videos! you have such a positive aura
I don't know about the wool ones, but I have had rubber dryer balls for years and they reduce static
Omg you need to tackle aesthetic journaling like washi tape shop, crafty lefty, tori joirnal etc cuz they're not journaling responsibly either
