Personal Best Dentex - 5.1kg - Spearfishing Malta

It's been nearly 3 years since i caught my last Dentex. I've seen a good number of dentex here and there, but they never get close enough. And finally I got my opportunity, and I didn't blow it!

It's too beautiful to forget. Had that experience once in a super fished spot and every time I reach that spot it's as if I'm seeing it in slow motion over and over again. You merit this one. Keep it up and keep safe.

Roughly how far off the coast of Malta did you go in your boat to the fishing spot? I have never seen anything that big when scuba diving around Malta.

Hi Paul, this was on a reef, but it'not a question of distance. There will be shallower parts that are fishier and thefore there might be predators. It depends on the location current and time of year. I've seen Dentex in shore dives, especially close to drop offs. But the noise for the air for the aqualungs will probably scare them away. Another reason is that as I am hunting I am super focused on movement in the distance, always trying to see the fish before it sees me. That way I would be able to approach.
