Reef diving - Spearfishing Malta

Summer is on its way and we are getting days with very little wind at last. I take the opportunity on a week day and go out with the boat to dive on some reefs. The ending is particularly spectacular!

How far are you free diving from the coast? 2km?

It depends how far the reef extends, there I was on 3 separate reefs ranging from 500m to 1.5km away from land. Please note that there can be strong currents on reefs and should not be tackled from land unless you know the area very well. With a boat it is always much safer

@@drusfishingmalta Any tips on locations in Gozo, having a hard time finding fish going out from the coast.

@@matthewgatt8380 it is not advisable to share locations on such a public platform as otherwise the same area would be over run. I have dived all around Gozo and there were times when I saw fish and others when I did not shoot a single shot. The videos I put up on UA-cam are the more interesting ones. The key in spearfishing is stealth. Practice with smaller fish, get as close as you possibly can. Approach as silently as possible even when you are at the surface. This will help you to start seeing the fish. Than you can work on your approach to come within range.
