    After 2 days of trying to get this to upload it’s finally done! My recommendation is to treat this one like a podcast. This was really difficult to put together and I apologise that it didn’t come sooner and with higher quality visuals.
    Next video will be dropping on Friday as usual followed by a special announcement on Monday 16th.
    Boy am I glad to have this one done, I needed to make it but it’s such a weight lifted for it to be over, now it’s time to regroup and get ready for the crazy September and October we have planned for the channel!

    This was the kind of video I needed, an in depth video from a Zelda and Lego fan who actually paid for the product like everyone else and spends copious amounts of time talking about absolutely every detail. You took a risk with this one and I think it paid off

      I very much agree. It's one thing when some influencer who was given a freebie says not to balk at the price. It's different when someone who laid out their own money says "I know it's a lot but I think it's worth it."

      yes buying it, or at least being prepared to buy it is an important part of an independent review. Its also important to conduct proper evaluation even in a ramble form, regardless I very much appreciate this comment because it proves to me that you really understand the video and why its so long/dense. Thanks for the support!

    Not only are there about a half-dozen new molds created for this set, LEGO can't re-use them in any other theme. Those shapes are exclusive to The Legend of Zelda and some may even be Nintendo trademarks which they couldn't *legally* use elsewhere. That makes this set the only one they can use to amortize those development costs. It's a high price. No one is denying that. But it's not a rip-off. The price honestly reflects the size of the set and the effort it took to realize it.

    More generally, thank you so much for going SO in-depth on your review of this landmark set! I've only built the BotW version so far (which I did because it seemed to be the "intended" order and would use up more parts and have fewer unopened bags lying around in the meantime), and it just looks so magnificent sitting on the top of the entertainment center alongside all the Zelda models you've designed!
    I've been wanting Legend of Zelda LEGOs for about 20 years, since my sister and I were in the LEGO Store messing around at one of the building stations and she idly set a fence piece next to a tree and we both simultaneously thought of Hyrule Field in OoT with its scattered trees and segments of fence to jump over on Epona, and it's never quite left my mind since, even during periods when I was less into Zelda than I am now. I think I'm a much different person now than I was then, but it's finally real and in my home and it makes me so, SO happy.

    • @octanethermoplastic
      @octanethermoplastic  9 днів тому

      I feel I had to, like you said, it's a landmark set and for so many people the culmination of years and years of waiting and wanting. Also I have so many thoughts about it and even if it was just for me I had to get those out of my system, which makes me ready to move on in some ways, not fully but it feels more real now, less stressful now that this vid is done, TBH looking back, I still feel I missed some small things or points/design ethos to highlight. looking forward to the 30 min polybag review whenever lego releases one RIGHT LEGO.
      As for your story, I find a lot magic in that, what a lovely memory to have as a jumping point for such a journey but also its so lego, so Zelda, so fantasy. It also nice that as people change things like this are constant, I can relate to that as lelda has been in my life for not as long, but still since I was a child, so it really grew with me as a human with goals and identity, but also as a builder, and emotionally too.
      Lastly, I agree botw is the intended build order, for sure, Its the one place I agree with solid prix studios review is that the oot should be the intended first, leaving those extra bags you avoided deliberately like how a dreamzzz set builds a base and then you expand upon it, also chronologically etc.
      I would be very curious to see the set up, especially as it involves my little brain children too! what does the blending of css and deku tree look like!

  • @azeplays3563
    @azeplays3563 9 днів тому +6

    I know hyrule castle is the next logical choice, but I really think smaller, more affordable sets are the way to go for the future, with maybe another big set in hyrule castle later down the line. I most hope to see a king of red lions set next, but with the currently available parts my next choice would be Lon Lon Ranch. Epona is too iconic to not have at some point and Lon Lon Ranch is just so iconic and cozy. Perfect for a set in my opinion

    • @octanethermoplastic
      @octanethermoplastic  9 днів тому +3

      similarly I think current available parts leads us nicely to a botw links last stand angainst a guardian, reusing master sword hylian shield and the link and Zelda hair, just needing the prayer dress and giving us the most iconic part of botw in a package under 100, nice thinking with Lon Lon, it is the oot equivalent of what I just suggested!

      @@azeplays3563I think Tears of the Kingdom makes perfect sense for Lego even more so than anything BotW can provide actually. They can straight up have an entire line of Zonai Part poly bags with the expectation you'll be able to build what you want of Zonai parts same as in TotK

      @azeplays3563 8 днів тому

    • @JacobNintendoNerd99
      @JacobNintendoNerd99 8 днів тому

      @@azeplays3563 oh I agree, but out of all the games, TotK is the one that fits most naturally with the Lego system. Some points are raised in this video that BotW does fit with it well, but with all the improvements TotK brings to the BotW mechanics it does so so much more so to the extent that TotK sets are probably the most logical thing to do with Lego, especially with the massive amount of small sets of Zonai parts and Sky Islands they can put out.
      Meanwhile, for older games, there are quite a few I'd want to see, but particularly Clock Tower from MM3D (Preferably somehow including the moon), Kakariko Village from ALttP and ALBW, Minish Village from TMC, Windfall Island, and Skyloft for me personally

    My only problems are:
    There isn't the korok at the entrance,
    The printing on zelda doesn't have the black outline like the other figures,
    No windwaker tree,
    And no option to switch the eyes to the totk gloom tree.
    But I'm definately going to buy it anyway.

    • @octanethermoplastic
      @octanethermoplastic  9 днів тому +3

      gloom eyes could be fun, I assume it isn't here because the set was designed before the game came out and that it would have confused the 2-1 aspect even more... the lack of Chico is a little sad but understandable in my book , but I agree with Zelda 100%
      wind waker tree is something im actively working on, gimme a few weeks and I should have something together!

    Just want to say, this is an amazing, in-depth review! I've watched about an hour so far, but I have one small tip for future videos. I noticed that the music can sometimes distract from what you're saying and feels a bit too loud or doesn't quite fit the vibe of the video. Or maybe that could also just be me. Other than that, it's an excellent review and makes me really want to buy this set.

    • @octanethermoplastic
      @octanethermoplastic  9 днів тому +1

      @@GoddesAphrodite thanks! Yeah I’m aware of the music problems, it’s something I’m still playing with and I nearly left this one soundless, the problem is finding enough tracks to fill a runtime here, and post production went down a really frustrating path, I had hoped the volume would be alright but I may go back and remove the tracks.
      Thanks for the opinion though, always much appreciated.
      If I’m being cheeky, if you wouldn’t mind checking out the tree upgrade video and telling me what you think about music choice and volume for that one, it would be a great help for me when choosing production style going forward.

    • @GoddesAphrodite
      @GoddesAphrodite 9 днів тому

      @@octanethermoplasticI did notice the same thing in the tree upgrade video. The music was occasionally a bit distracting, and the volume could have been lower. The first track (also used around the 1:49:00 time in this video) felt like there was stress in the music which did not fit the relaxed vibe. (Maybe it was the higher notes). The second track of the tree upgrade video fit really well and was not too loud and fit the vibe. I also did like the use of the Inside the Deku Tree track when discussing the Deku Tree however the volume seemed a bit too loud again. Having the music connect to the location does really help like inside the deku tree or also having korok Forrest music when talking about the botw tree etc.
      In this video, I noticed the music even more, especially around the 1-hour mark where the song really seemed to clash with the tone of what you were saying and felt a bit to serious. My advice would be to choose music that better matches the vibe of your videos. For a Zelda Lego review, something neutral to happy would fit better than anything too dark or dramatic.
      An example of how I have others seen using music that works well is with a podcast I listen to. They use background music, but it’s so subtle that you hardly notice it unless you're focusing on it. So, while I think background music can work well, maybe make it quieter and more subtle next time. I hope this feedback helps, and of course, this is just my personal opinion, others might feel different. Sorry I've also just been rambling on haha.

    I'm really hoping to find a cheap deal, because as much of a fan I am of Zelda, and of Lego as a kid, I'm not that fan of having the "dead Deku tree" on my room, It's weird to think about it, and I don't really have much space to display that big tree (also, dust concerns me), not that fan on the botw one too. I think I would just make the base of Botw Deku tree and then try to build a big tree house out of it, maybe something that looks like Link's house from Twilight Princess so every Link can chill inside. I even though of a sky island, those roots are really great for creativity.
    But I really wish they would have chosen a cheaper idea or at least alternative, I really want to stay out of lego because I love it so much and I know I would be pour for it, but omg with Sonic and Zelda It feels like they are personally attacking my wallet...
    Anyways nice and complete review, your pasion and honesty is shown and thanks to you I'm trying no to be negative on the set from the Zelda fan perspective

      @@Myshora this is great, some fantastic ideas and concepts, glad the review could be helpful as well. I 100% agree that we need cheaper options, as they provide more variety and lower the bar of entry, at the moment I’m incredibly optimistic about our chances, so now might be the time to save! I will say if dust is a concern, the. Acrylic cases are an option, however this is yet more money especially if it’s a set your not super keen on! I would say waiting is the right call for now!
