I got lucky at the Hermes Pacific Place while I was there last month. I was looking for the Cabaseiller 31 (the full leather tote bag, but the smaller version since I have the big one). My SA in San Francisco couldn't offer one for me (even with prespend) and the Hermes PP just offered me one in a color that suits me too. No prespend or purchase history and I was able to leave the store with a bag that I want in a color that I like. :D Super happy with it! Congrats on the lindy purchase!!!
The reality is: if you're rich and famous, your *hotdups* bags are seen as a sign of success. If you are just an ordinary worker working a 9-to-5 job, your real bag is likely to be considered the fruit of your efforts.
There was a documentary recently where they interviewed very wealthy women. These women are talking about how they no longer buy authentic wallets, but instead choose to buy really good wallets *hotdups* designer bags they love. They then invest the money they save in other things such as real estate, stocks, etc.
