      Well, eating them fresh from the tree is really hard to beat! We do make wine with mulberries, but eventually we will have a U-pick operation for these.

    Oh, wow, I like this one! Mine are behind a week, always. Very fun video. Black Pakistan took two wind storms (20-25 MPH each) while in bloom and still is bearing a good crop. Wish that the Everbearing would get busy and bloom.
    Still have like 9 nice, in bloom tomatoes to set out. Radishes are starting to bloom, and the stems are tasty. The seed pods are even better! Hasta, kids!

      We are working on having them available for everyone. Too many times we've been burned with the wrong variety from the nursery and we've had a lot of folks ask us to sell these for that very reason. We're hoping to have them available by Fall, just in time for the next planting season. 😉

    This has been my holy grail tree for a few years, haha. I look for it every winter at the local nurseries and it’s always sold out. I bought some scion wood from eBay a couple years ago and grafted one to a fruitless mulberry I have in the back of my property and get a few berries if I can beat the birds to them, but I’d really like a large tree. I got a bunch of scion wood at the local scion exchange last month and a few varieties are starting to root which is exciting but of course the Pakistan and Persian are the 2 that aren’t, hahaha.

  • @FC2ESWS

    • @EdgeofNowhereFarm
      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  5 місяців тому +1

      I wouldn't attempt it with a Black Pak. Either way, you would probably need to either coppice or pollard it each winter to have a chance at that.

    I have had a Pakistan mulberry for years. The tree always freezes to the ground (zone 9a but winters lately have been not normal) I took some cuttings and have lots of trees now. It is a female Pakistan mulberry I know because I have had some fruit on the potted cuttings. Got any tips on keeping them from freezing if I plant them in the ground? I tried pipe insulation last year. It saved the trunk on my calamondin and lemon but the mulberries are starting over again. So weird. I have 13 cuttings well rooted in pots about 2-3 feet tall and more that are smaller with only some roots. I am using the in ground trees as fodder for my goats some since they cannot get enough mature wood to make berries, the leaves are high in protein and they grow so fast.

    • @EdgeofNowhereFarm
      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  6 місяців тому

      I'm surprised you're seeing those freeze back so hard. We have seen them muscle right through 20 degree nights without an issue. That being said, it may be worth doing something similar to what we do with our moringa trees. They usually would kill to the ground in our sub 30 nights, but we have had them survive with no issues using this method. I'll link to a video we did on that for you here;
      ua-cam.com/video/jU1MW4wzNzo/v-deo.html
      Now, you may need to add some mulch in that cage to add some additional protection, but it's worth a shot. Especially since it sounds like fodder production is one of your goals. Fingers crossed for you here!

      @@EdgeofNowhereFarm thanks I’ll give that a try. Unfortunately we keep getting low temperatures like I never saw here before. In 2020 we had quite a bit of snow with a low temp of 18. Then every ear since then it has been at least that low with last year seeing 14 here. Very unusual for south of San Antonio Texas.
