Deus Ex - NYC Streets

- Deus Ex (2000) was widely praised for its melodious and ambient music which incorporates a number of genres, such as classical, jazz, and techno.
The soundtrack of Deus Ex was extolled by critics for aptly complementing the gritty and haunting atmosphere predominant throughout the game.
All listed tracks were composed by Alexander Brandon, Dan Gardopee, Michiel van den Bos and Reeves Gabrels. A compact disc of the Deus Ex soundtrack was only included in the "Game of the Year" edition and is not available for separate purchase, but all tracks are readily available on the internet. Originally only thirty tracks were included with the re-release, with tracks thirty-one through forty-one considered as extras.
During play, the music will change to a different iteration of the current song based on the player's actions. For instance, this usually occurs when the player starts a conversation, engages in combat, or transitions to the next level.
"You've got ten seconds to beat it before I add you to the list of NSF casualties."
I love this music, Alexander Brandon is a genius.

Let's not forget about Michel van den Bos...

"Sign him up for the Knicks!"
When I visited New York City in 2003, this song played in my head while I walked around Manhattan. Stunningly well-done music.
I remembered this comment when I went to New York, and made sure to listen to this song while there.
@AX1S I'll continue the tradition as well, if I ever end up in NY again
Haven’t been to nyc in almost 20 years. But sometimes I’ll play this music on my phone when walking at night in the city
When I was a child, this game was nothing more than amusing entertainment. Today, I'm actually worried about the direction this world is heading in. Far too many similarities with Deus Ex.
Yeah... What a shame.
With Covid, civil unrest, political division, economic crisis, disaters; it sure feels like we are living in a dystopia/cyberpunk reality.
yeah man, it's so many similarities, this is really impressive
@@trod7502 Well, we are. It's just insted of augmentation we just use non-implanted devices.
It was only a matter of time till the state found a way to manufacture crisis. All the facist dictatorship without any of the "moral" repurcussions!

I fucking love how this song builds up from a simple beat to a wonderful melody that creates and captures the feel of the game, and then it just "stops" and starts all over again (when it loops in-game).
Wonderful melody to dance*
Yea the start and restart is critical . It’s like here we go again.
Amazing how this game is even more relevant in the second decade of the twenty-first century...
By the 2050s where the game is set perhaps it will come to fruition..

I remember playing this game, and loving the everlasting fuck out of it. 35 hours consumed, in a week.
the way everything was constructed felt real. Like, the UI for terminals, for example. Lots of detail, and it resembles the real world so damn closely, in terms of design.
I re-played it earlier this year using the GMDX mod, and yeah no matter how dated the graphics are, it's as atmosphere as the day it came out.
As well as the secret areas you could find and get loot from.
I've never heard a song that blends hostility and sadness so well.
"That was uncalled for! You mug people, great, you need the dough - but you SHOW some RESPECT!"
there never gonna be a game like this again.....ever
Well there will be deus 1 reloaded .... Same game , same music , same everything but increased graphics.
Wish it always ...😢
Fortunately or unfortunately... You're right!
Deus ex revision on steam.
I mean, there is Cyberpunk 2077 coming out, which is also a first person dystopian Cyberpunk RPG. But I doubt there'll be alien creatures locked up in facilities or lumbering military robots or secret entrances or even the occasional in-game political debate.
@@Hustle-gg9mo I have that. I'll play after I complete vanilla Deus Ex.
best game ever...period
One of the best, certainly. I've been playing through recently and I adore it.

Maybe just a homeless guy.

Honestly, it seems like cyberpunk sci-fi is the closest approximation to what the future will be like in real-life. Some of us will get fancier gadgets, but the same old problems will carry-over from the old days.
In 1945 corporations paid 50 percent of federal taxes. Now they pay about 5 percent.
In 1900 90 percent of Americans were self-employed now it's about two percent.
Don't believe me?
It's all in the numbers
Number 1: That's terror
Number 2: That's terror
Whenever I hear this music in the dark, I remember one thing....
My vision is augmented.
I live in NYC when I walk the streets this music never plays.
=(
Well start playing it.
Game of the decade.
Of the complete gaming era.
The special thing about this game is how the atmosphere makes you feel like you're the one inside the game doing missions yet jc's presence is still there and you feel like you're jc denton because of how strong of a character jc is.
Bought this game on a whim, and now I'm addicted. Creeping around New York with this playing is pretty cool!
My childhood game
After 1:10 is so epic.
the sound of reinstalling
For me it's the beat dropping at 0:50
You're right. By the way, in my opinion, recent game soundtracks use way TOO MANY strings/violins, which come from the film industry, and lack bad-ass synths.
Genre of Cyberpunk is mostly using synths but strings/violins are not bad. Some composer mix orchestra with electronic music
@@sandansaiyan5675 lol why'd you reply to a 9 year old comment, I doubt the original commenter is going to see it.
This is why Alexander Brandon is the best damn composer of all time.
And Nobuo Uematsu.
This particular piece sets the mood SO well.
I love this.
Hey man you got any zyme...
I consumed zyme in-game once, that was a bad move....

One of my fav soundtracks in the game. Really captures the dark and bleak future setting that is Deus Ex.
It's almost 2010. Wow! I remember playing this in 2000.
And now is 2023. Jesus Christ stahp
Bro i tell you
2010 was a good year
I played this on 2005 wooww i am 32 now. Thanks Gustavo, my little friend to show me this amazing game, wherever you are bro.. thank you.

"You have that look about you.
A man who's running out of friends..."
This soundtrack perfectly embodies the feeling of not so distant futuristic dystopia.
this song has stayed in my head ever since i first played this classic
How is it that modern games can't come even close to the quality and size of games like Deus Ex original or the 2 first Thief games. The golden age of gaming is long gone. This is the period of crappy underdeveloped, full price, soulless games that require constant updates and charge you per extra item. Remember when you use to buy an Expansion Pack and it was either near a full game or pack full of extra themes, tooks?
People nowadays only want first person shooters
Is 'soulless' just a buzzword that nostalgic people use? What do you mean by 'soulless', could you explain why many modern games are soulless (with explained examples)?
Soulless means that the creators weren't really interested in making their game. Examples of soulless games (imo) for instance are Dragon Age: Inquisition or many of the Call of Duties. DAI had a soulless world, where none of the sidequests mattered and where just there to give you something to do. But there was no point. There wasn't a story. The creators didn't use the opportunity of the sidequests to flesh out their world and create a world you could love. It's the same with a lot of Call of Duties and Call of Duty clones: a rehash of previous games, with nothing much added, no love in making it, just made it as part of their job and to get money as fast as possible. It doesn't mean these are bad games (not in my opinion anyway) but soulless is a lack of...feel in a game.
+RyoCaliente
I see what you mean. IMO CoD is over-hated sometimes, especially since some games, mostly BO1 and 2, you can tell that they've made an effort to try and create a believeable yet intriguing narrative and world with some character development within time constraints that Treyarch have no control over. I think that world building and character development etc should always take a back seat to the gameplay (the reason why games exist in the first place), which is why Doom worked so well and is still so great today but also why I hated The Last of Us. Maybe it's just that I've never been convinced by the idea of a story-driven game. I love Half Life and Deus Ex because they have good gameplay on top of their excellent narratives and world design, and Doom is just pure fun without an emphasis on the setting.
There was a time where developers recognized games as art - and then came those who said "Wait, you can actually make money with this crap, let's go" -> today's publishers
each day, the world gets more and more similar to the ciberpunk fictions.
Yeah, fucked up, that's what it is.
Not in Romania it's not. If I'm wearin a Trench coat every will call me homeless.

Honestly this theme really does capture NY's dark, crime ridden streets.
This has got to be my favourite track on the DX soundtrack. So atmospheric, it matches the environment perfectly.
You can tell it has been created by the same guy who did Unreal Tournament OST
It has?

I just beat this game for the first time a few days ago. So dam good I wish I played it earlier, I see it now as one of the best games I ever played. Definitely one I will re-play for the times to come. The game is just so good.

When I was 12, I had to lie to my parents, snuck out of the house, sent money (cash and coins) to a games store to get Deus Ex. My parents caught me out, grounded me for 3 months took away my privileges to play or do anything except study.
It was fucking worth it to play Deus Ex.
"Your buddies at UNATCO have instructed us to steer people away from the 'Ton"
Love this music
The feels hearing this the first time...
This is by far my favorite track in this game. I was prolonging my play in the streets just to hear this over and over.
Games nowadays lack such music. True masterpiece carved out of golden musical instruments by passionate artists.
love this and Human Revolution are the best games ever made.
Human Revolution Soundtrack is friggin awesome. I really don't know which one I like more.
(hums)
Playing deus ex while coronavirus pandemy, sitting in home. "A damn ghost town" outside.
what a game
Dont we all agree that everyone who listen to this music, wishes to have a background music like this when walking through the streets late at night?
It's something I always thought of. Having background music in your life, depending on your mood, situation and stuff. Maybe in the future (:
チンピラ like in one of the episode from Family Guy where Peter Griffin gets 3 Wishes & he wishes a personal (background)music
Goddamn I adore this game with all my heart. This soundtrack is phenomenal. I've never heard music that sounds quite like this
Just hearing this again makes me feel like I'm gonna get shot at any moment
I remember discovering that I could save Paul on my second or third playthrough, blew my mind. Still my favourite PC game of all time. Absolute masterpiece.
"Stay outta the 'ton bro. Bad shit goin down."
"Do something man, they'll gonna kill him!"
This soundtrack is amazing. Keep coming back even after all these years.
This is awesome . Whenever I need to add some deus ex style ambience to a situation, I'll cue this bad boy up on repeat .
best game ever.period...and what music..i just standed there in game just to listen haha.
Still remember this game, absolute Awesome.
Just played this on my way back from work at night, empty streets (almost) fit perfect with it, so I gave it a shot. It was amazing
How i like these tunes. have whole album on my mp3, and the music from HR, it's just amazing. And I especially enjoy in fall, with that atmosphere, to go around the streets, listening to these track. So powerfull
perfect theme for the nyc streets circa 2020
This is the Game Masterpiece! Allways instaled on my Pc...
Yes, this is pure tracker music :-) Good old '90s :-)
This song was soooo cool when I first heard...It was so realistic at the time. Remember when this game out, back in 2000?, This was the first game I played with that gritty real-world, cinematic feel to it, and probably the first game of the modern VG age to do so.
Anyone who played vid game knows that This game was a head of it's time. And it goes so deep into society
Just chimed in to know how you are OP. Damn it's been 14 years since your last upload. I was 6 back then, lol.

To be ready for the new Deus Ex, I looked for this games in second hand shops for days, glad I found it.
this is so beautiful
This music brings back so many memories
One of my top 5 favorite tracks in the game. The ambience of this game's music is unmatched.
the soundtracks of this game made me wanna keep wandering the locations to keep listening themes like this one
Iconic music

You're an inspiration to us all, sir. *salute*
New York right now
i think this is the best track too, gritty as hell as you walk through the streets of NYC...
Epic and climatic! Love this one. Died there in NYC countless times, lol.
Another example of brilliant composing on the Deus Ex soundtrack. The guy who made this doesn't think like most composers. Just brilliant.
Nostalgic moment... I need to reinstall this game!!
Graphics may be outdated, but the gameplay, the story, the music... just keeps me coming back! :D
Dogs are chasing me...Dark all around..
best theme ever. i got goosebumpes when i heard this and unatco theme at HR (in the radio)
Timeless Classic! 🙌🌟💯
Yes i was looking for that one thx =D
Still enjoy it 10 years later :D
Aahh... Such wonderful memories of my first and second playthrough ^_^
So many immersive memories.
My favourite track.
We are living in the future. 2021, we have computer-multitools in our pockets with tens of times more processing power than an average consumer desktop 20 years ago. We have technologies like real time gene-editing. It will be interesting to see the world in 2052. I think it will mostly be very similar as it has been since the 60's (atleast in my country) the basics of daily life haven't really changed for the past 60 years. A century of mundane city living surrounded by digital technologies.
Believe me, by that time the entire world will be enslaved.
We're living in a boring dystopia.
@@elfranko1217 Hopefully not.
@2ndreality we've devolved, friend. be thankful to have gotten to enjoy what you did. nothing short of a miracle is going to bring it back.

Sto this day deus ex is by far the best game I ever played I wish I forget it and reply it to feel it once again despite the fact that I replayed it countless times
20 Years Later! I still remember this exact song...iconic! Especially the part from 0:51-1:11 dont know why that specific part has stuck with me throughout the last couple decades
