A little push back from me on this one. I saw this blade at smkw over the weekend. Very thin, the scales can be removed with a flat head screw driver to make it even thinner. I removed the belt clip and wrapped the sheath in green leather. I turned it into a thin and lite neck knife. I see it being used as a basic neck knife. Carving? Sure. Gutting a fish? Definitely. General cutting tool? Sure. I wear xl gloves because my hand is like a bear paw. Short fingers with a big mit of a palm. It fits my needs and planned sheath. I got it for $120 at smkw. All the other blades you were showing had thicker blades and handles, wider sheathes, and were heavier. The thin blade, thin handle, narrow sheath, and an all around lite package fits the goal. Price point is a bit higher then i like. Field testing is coming up when i go camping this summer
Thank you for the review , will you attempt large fix blade reviews / comparisons of all the methods of every day carrying fixed blades / large fixed blades?
Thanks for the video, it is also confusing that they made the blade material cryo 154cm on the blade and CPM154 on their website. I thought the knife looks cool on the website though.
Sog got sold to GSM with cold steel and their warranty and new designs are horrible. Sog pre GSM had a great warranty, and I got a whole new seal xr after the axis lock on mine broke. I requested a clip screw recently for my new one as it is no longer with the knife, and they said that they don’t service that model (even though it’s in production still currently). Multiple people have had similar experiences. It was literally an overnight change. They also changed steel and country of origin on a few designs that were planned to come out before the change, but haven’t changed the description of the original materials and country of origin on their website yet. Sketchy stuff
I have the XR Altier. It’s a thin minimalist knife that isn’t bad. Idk about this one tho. Believe it or not, there’s a mistake somewhere because the blade is supposed to be CPM 154. Not standard 154 CM
Nope. I said it exactly right based on what's on the blade. CPM-154 is a crucible made powder metallurgy equivalent. And it's been tested multiple times by Larin Thomas. Still not worth and still worse than cpm-s35vn
Ahh for the glory days of the 90s and 2000s, when Cold Steel and SOG were decent tools. But Alas the former things are passed away and behold all things have become Zhunter😂
You're right. It's too expensive. I like the overall package (with a little modification) though, always looking for slim fixed blades in ease of carry category. But at $150... I don't think so, maybe the price would go down some, I'd be interested.
I bet their design... SOG department and marketing their aim is to get you to buy more new sheaths in the future. and guess whether the small protrusion was damaged first, or whether the two clasps broke off first?
I've been wanting that knife but when released we were promised it to be a sub $100 knife. It was released last year or two. Then I saw the price on Knife Center and others. Hard pass since I never saw one in person. I want a knife similar to that one so I'll take recommendations aside from those in the video. Flat grind, and for duty work. Thank you for doing this video Sir.
@@maxlvledc The only knives that are full on illegal to even own here in the UK are things like flickknives, gravity knives, push daggers, and so-called zombie knives lol.
You don’t understand? It is simply 3 letters GSM. For example the original Cold Steel 4Max @ $325 was an American made (later Italian made) knife in 20CV and it’s frame had a larger pivot and stop pin than the Taiwanese made 4Max Scout, which was is a great knife for the price but a compromise to reduce cost and manufacture time with smaller pins. Along come GSM. The 4Max goes on the Scout frame, blade steel is reduced to S35VN and, to me at least, the most hideous color scales available. So it a $275 knife right? Nope. The the prices the same or a slight bump due to the supply chain issues? Nope. $435! Thats encroaching Sebenza territory for a Cold Steel Taiwanese produced knife! That is GSM! They try to recoup their entire development and production budget off the sale of a few knives! That my friend is how it makes sense … to GSM because they do not understand their customer base or pricing!
So, in essence, what you're saying is the knife is a train wreck and avoid it like the plague? I'm on board with that! 😂 I'm actually looking to pick up some fixed blades. Any recommendations?
SOG is crap….Powerpint included (If LM built the Powerpint it’d be amazing). I have a Powerpint, fixed its inherent shortcomings, and it’s still junk. It’s the only SOG that will ever be in my collection.
So many complaints just because you don't understand the knife? As I see, the the knife sheath is made to put it on molle. The triangle system allows using ulti-clip with it. And I suppose that the handle created to use knife with gloves, not bare hands. It looks not as EDC knife but as the tactical one. So huge clip allows to hang knife on warbelt. No one could say that knife is overpriced without understanding the cost of its production. Until you don't have the real data on hand, it is not smart to talk about overpricing. Is this too much for you? Just don't buy it.
i've bought a few sog knives in the past, and it didnt take long for me to completely give up hope on this brand. save yourself time and hassle, just stick with spiderco; don't bother trying SOG products.
I really hate the whole subscription box BS, it's almost always overpriced TRASH at a crazy price 😩 That handle is so thin you'd think it was a boot knife with the wrong sheath...
