I've been playing NBA 2k since 2k1, and the thing I've noticed is basically this: NBA 2k used to be made for fans of the game of NBA basketball. NBA 2k is now made for people who may or may not care about the game of NBA basketball, but who want to play the game competitively online while completely abandoning the simulation style gameplay. It's the difference between people who watch an NBA game for an entire 48 minutes and people who think it's all about what they see on the highlight reels.
Damn OG I been playing really since 2k10 and you’re so right I’m a play now online guy and they cater to the casuals. in the beginning the gameplay is good nothing terrible, we get a few updates and patches, things change and then around playoff time. OMFG they dumb down the difficulty and it turns arcady as fuck
I got soooo many memories with nba 2k15 I didn’t play online I was an offline guy back then, I loved this game on my Xbox one back in 2015-16 ahhhh the memories
I'm a bit nostalgic for this game. This is the first NBA game I played online with. Me and my best friend played the heck out of this one. Soundtrack was the most unique I've heard in an NBA game. And I loved it. Thanks for the review SDTV.
I had 2k15 on the xbox 360 and they had skill points to upgrade your player in mycareer over vc and it was easier/fun. I think this is the 2k that started youtubers to make nba 2k rebuilds.
I still play this game and the logo animation is what i fell in love with this game it just showed that 2k cared about us now its Nothing. The shot meter felt good and Gameplay was smooth than other nba games.
Remember when you didn't have to green shots just to make them? 2K needs to bring that back. That and the impact on costs and revenue that were in the game when you chose to build your arena in the city vs in the suburbs.
I know most 2K players will just say “get better at the game” when you complain about having to green shots but that literally ruined the game for me. Makes it so much less enjoyable to the casual player and really shows how 2K completely shifted their focus to catering only to Esports/competitive players
@@SmooveGaming22 even with the green only gameplay is still catered to casuals. It’s a skill gap. You would be upset if you put time into the game to be good, and lose to someone who didn’t based on RNG shooting. Take Cod for example, ppl would be upset if they lost a gunfight bc the game decided it was their turn to lose a gun fight. Im a casual. It takes literally a 3-5 minutes before you start playing to warmup your jumper. If you do that before every time u play you’ll be greening consistently in no time. That’s literally the bare minimum effort you have to put in to shoot consistently. That’s not catering to Esports in any way.
That green or miss was HORRIBLE. I bought 24 after years of not playing 2k and I was like wtf is this. And they had the nerve of making the green window small asl. That made me put the game down and not touch it after the first month. But I heard they made it optional in 2k25. Something that shouldnt have been changed in the first place.
@willcfjackson5114 in mycareer sure but myteam and myleague you'll have to know the jumpers of your current team. At least 6 or 7 of them. Most don't jumpshot w their centre's sure but that's a lot of jumpers for a casual.
i hate to compliment EA, but being able to choose your starting overall is probably the best idea for career modes especially when you share them with online functions. Imagine being able to start as a 1st rounder, 2nd rounder, or go undrafted with different pros and cons

This game right here was the beginning of the end of great 2k basketball games because of my park and my team really pushing those dreaded microtransactions that’s a huge problem with gaming in general now. This also remind me it’s been a decade since I graduated HS😭
I think 2k went downhill once they started to add archetypes and builds into the game. I think that when 2K 15 was making my career they were way ahead of their time. We have people like Victor Bol and Kevin Durant that can kinda do anything on the court. it’s not a certain build or archetype that they have on the NBA floor because they can do everything. They are acting like people are going to use demigods all the time but there’s some people that just want to use Regular point guard, shooting guards and small forwards. If 2K wants to have a my career mode or my park that’s good, they need to take out archetypes and builds as a whole because at this point, everybody’s just gonna watch a UA-cam video and copy a build instead of making their own because they know if they make their own it’s gonna have a lot of stimulations which isn’t realistic to the NBA today.
Great video. Another aspect to mention is that 2K15 was the last game where you could build a truly dominant myplayer without microtransactions and archetype limitations. You can build a 7ft small forward sniper that is amazing to play, so much fun and totally free to build and customise.
You’re back in action with retro sports games I’m happy blessed to see and have all from 1980-Now what a life of gaming throughout the decades appreciate you my man
the lost art in 2k is offline gameplay, you can play real basketball in 14-15. Now it’s slow and you can’t score any contested shots. it’s Myplayer 2K not NBA 2K
The comment at 15:57 really nailed how I feel about the current games. It is less about letting the physics of a situation play out and more about the repetitive contact animations that are triggered. Makes the gameplay feel scripted rather than authentic.
I been playing 2k franchise mode for 20 years...my friends always tease me because they always see me playing offline franchise...i love it....i loved nfl 2ks...
I still personally put ‘16 above ‘15, mainly for the MyLeague additions, the soundtrack, and the main menu. Plus, that 2015-2016 season was probably the greatest in recent memory.
I’ll never forget right after Curry won his 2nd consecutive MVP, in 2k16 they boosted his ovr to a 99. I was hitting half court shots every other possession lol good times. 2k16 Curry was the goat

My 15 year old self played 2K15 everyday after school for hours. U hit it on the head. Everyone wants to talk about 2K16 and 2k17, but 2K15 set the foundation and still is the best game from the series.
2k11, 2k13, and 2k15 were truly special man 😪 Each game really felt distinct and weren’t just a rehash of the same game like the releases we see today.
This particular 2k I had played with my friend on the couch after work till late nights during the summertime that year. Penny vs Mj teams...great times
15 and 16 were my favourites. i played hundreds of hours of both. made my sonics and turned them into a dynasty. a couple of the greatest sports titles of all time.
I mainly played offline on 15 and loved it, i had 2 93 overall builds with no VC spent, just being a kid playing a game. miss those days it’s basically impossible to do so now. also miss the simple mycareer aspect, like you were playing ball 5ish minutes in the game vs today where you’re basically just watching a bunch of ads. not saying it’s the best 2K one of the most fun absolutely.
i vividly remember 9 year old me getting my first ever sports game, NBA 2k15. tbh without it, i don’t think i would’ve fallen in love with sports in general, cause i didn’t really care about them beforehand. It will forever have a special place in my heart
This is where i met some of my 2k friends who I met in real life and hung out with. Dont talk or hang with them now but I did it was fun back them. We played all day everyday from 2k15-2k18
Probably my favorite franchise of all time and sad to see where it is today. I remember in 2K18 100 dollars of VC would last me over half the lifecycle and fully max out 4 builds (including clothes/shoes/tattoos etc). Now 100 dollars doesn't even max out one build (and thats without buying any clothes/shoes/accessories/tattoos/boosts etc....). I stopped playing this franchise after 2K20 and picked up 2K22 to see if anything had changed and haven't touched it since. Wish it could go back to the good days.
the only thing, I would take over 2k15 is the 2k14's lighting, sadly, the downgrade was clearly visible, if 2k15, with all the additional content had the 2k14 lighting - man It would be goated, in the same category as 2k16 as 2k11
This was my first NBA 2K game I bought on PlayStation 4 (I have the first game on Dreamcast, NBA 2K3-2K6 on Xbox, 2K7-2K8 on Xbox 360 prior to getting 2K15 on PS4). The main reason I bought it is because it was released in the season that the San Francisco Warriors (who were then known as the Golden State Warriors when they were still based in Oakland) made it to the NBA Championship Series and won it. I was unhappy they removed playoff mode, but the gameplay and presentation is really great. I really enjoy this game.
My first real 2k I bought myself. (By first i mean i played before but never owned) 2k16 at the end of its 2k cycle. I bought it after 2k17 had already been out. Guys I LOVED THIS GAME. Online was still poppin, mycareer was so good. I could play 100 hours easily every month
@SOFTDRINKTV You`re absolutely right with everything, but you forgot to mention one of the Things, that hurt me the most: If you play a 2k15 My Carreer Player these Days, you wont be able to upgrade the Special Skill Badges, because 2K replaced the VC for 2k15 with an Offline Currency, but obviously "forgot" to make Badge Upgrades achievable with it. So all you can get is Bronze, and unfortunately those Badges are not just an cosmetic Item. Also there are some Minor Bugs, like a weird Assist of the Game Replay, if the Game is running at more then 60 Hz. In 2014, 120 Hz Monitors were already a Thing and still they never bothered to fix it. 2k13 already had the same Issue...
Another awesome video from SoftDrinkTv. Right now I'm playing the PS5 version of NBA 2k21 because i don't feel like playing the newer ones and or paying full price for their games.
What's up SoftDrink. Another excellent retrospective. I buy every NBA 2K game, just to see if it feels like basketball again in the modes that matter to me, such as MyCareer. Something happened to the gameplay, physics and player models from 2018 to modern day and they have yet to feel like actual basketball games. Now, I still play NBA 2K14 on PC the most, with some mods. However, when I went back to NBA 2K15-2K18, I noticed a sneaky little change that 2K made to those games to punish players who prefer the past entries and as a preview to their future greed: In MyCareer, you lose the ability to add any equipment to your MyPlayer such as headbands,kneepads/sleeves, arm sleeves etc. NBA 2K14 is the last NBA 2K game that allows players to simply add/edit accessories using the Edit Player option within MyCareer mode. It's impossible on the console versions of NBA 2K15-2K18 and on PC, my preferred way to play, we have to use Trainers/mods to add/edit the accessories. Just plain vile greedy behavior on behalf of 2K.
@@matthewnikitas8905 No. You can sniff out a sale on one of those sites with the activation keys or you can pirate it. 15 is a little tougher to find. There's a pirate site with it but the only link is pretty suspect. Love the videos I just found your channel a few weeks ago!! Dude what is the instrumental called for the first song. Every time I hear it on this channel it makes me feel so nostalgic for some reason lol.
My GM is still in the game. It’s just customizable but all the features are still there and in 25 you can now walk around the teams front office building and do tasks for immersion. I’m not defending 2k at all haven’t got a new one since 23. They failed me this year because they added a stupid curry era when fans been wanting 60s and 70s era.
2k15 is the "smackdown here comes the pain" of nba 2ks. It was perfection. The last 8 2ks have been a joke in comparison. If they bring back this gameplay 2k could be great again
I absolutely LOVED in (I think it was) MyGM you couldn't just automatically relocate a team. The other teams had to vote on your proposal and you had to get a specific number of yes votes, so your proposal had to be good
I just rebought this game today from Cali Games at a cost of $1.49 after watching this video. I bought it on new release day back in 2014 at the Lake City GameStop, and I had a ton of fun with it. It’s a great game!
I remember on the 360 my neighbor gave me this game and I played it. I didn't remember much but I remember listening to Hunter and I got hooked on that song. 2K16 and 17 though have the best back to back soundtracks ever. back when the soundtracks really were, THE SHIT
NBA 2K15 was the first NBA 2K game I purchase. And even though I really do like it, I like NBA 2K16 even more and it's definitely the last great NBA 2K game. I like NBA 2K16 my league a lot more than 2K15 just for the fact that you can do a lot more when you factor in the level of customization. I still like 2K15 though
Only issues I had with 2k15 in mycareer is the demigod glitch, and the jordan rec center. The demigods were basically max height, max wingspan players with all 99 stats if I remember correctly. They ruined the park imo but 2k15 park was mad fun when everybody was running different builds without the demigod glitch. JRC’s main issue was the got next spots. Waiting 20 minutes just to possibly play if people didn’t hop off the got next was an annoying feature however they should bring back a 5v5 option with your park clothes. That was cool
Hi everyone, I'mthony oldtano here, the internet's busiest music nerd. Man, it's crazy that 2k15 is about to be 10 years old. I remember buying this back in middle school, and I first hated this game. Hopefully 2k25 is way better than 2k15.
Nostalgia is really hitting you over the head lol. This game was good but ahead of its time is strong. PS4 was a powerful console, it wasn’t like these were PS1’s. The very next game is one of the greatest in the franchise. 15 had flaws that people openly talked about back then. 2K isn’t perfect AT ALL now but they have definitely improved in a myriad of ways since 2K15. Also 2K20 was a great 2K, I’ve been playing 2K since 2K6 btw.
as a 2k collector 2k15,2k16,2k17 was the same engine with slight upgrades every year... so if you want the best version you'd go with 2k17, 2k15 was ok just kinda bare bones imo
This game is underrated to me the amount of memories I have is absurd. Use to run tournaments with the whole sunset park shìt was crazy. Had 2k hours on a game in a year. 2k went down since then. The Demi Gods at the end did give this game a bad rap tho and it they earned that. They didn’t do shit to fix it and just let it happen
If anyone reads this comment 8:15 in this video wraps it up well. The maker of this video, (he is not a creator) does an amazing job with all of his content. I support the man. If myself and you are so susceptible to video games, we are going to not like our meeting upstairs.
only reason i played the older years was because i liked making a 99 stat player and going through a season, id play when there was nothing else to do, the newer ones really screw over the solo type players like me, your created player doesnt even get the same features to build as the online/mywhatever modes.
I still play 2k15 mycarrer every day. Although the game has its glitches I enjoy the gameplay and how close to actual basketball it can feel when you perform a combination that leads to a basket and or hitting a tough shot. Or my favorite part which is having the opposing team hit tough shots on you. You start to feel like this is basketball and not a video game set up by developers to make it easier or impossible to win
Ngl as someone who had 5000 games in park in 15 and is my fav 2k ever you can’t talk about the park and myplayer section giving it credit without mentioning demigods which it was REALLY made 15 what it was

I stopped playing this franchise after 2K20 and picked up 2K22 to see if anything had changed and haven't touched it since. Wish it could go back to the good days.
you have been killing it lately my man! great to see, keep on keep on👍🏾
Dion fn Waiters, sooooo many great laughs from that scene. Then to add to the madness, dude started talking over him, classic.
If this has a different soundtrack this woulda been the goat fs 🔥Pharrell was tweakin 🤣
2k16 is the GOAT. Do a retro on that.
the only thing, I would take over 2k15 is the 2k14's lighting, sadly, the downgrade was clearly visible, if 2k15, with all the additional content had the 2k14 lighting - man It would be goated, in the same category as 2k16 as 2k11
Al Jeffersons sounds like he’s reading off a napkin his dialogue
Imagine a modded 2024 NBA 2K15 🔥
I loved the soundtrack
2k15 was the 2k I played the most of back in the day
What's up SoftDrink.
Is it even on Steam still? I thought they only had 24 and 23
@@matthewnikitas8905 No. You can sniff out a sale on one of those sites with the activation keys or you can pirate it. 15 is a little tougher to find. There's a pirate site with it but the only link is pretty suspect. If your interested in playing these classic, true NBA 2K games, go for 14, it has the most modders or go for 16/17, the links are all fresh.
Been playing 15 and 16 recently they both fire tbh
Love the videos I just found your channel a few weeks ago!! Dude what is the instrumental called for the first song. Every time I hear it on this channel it makes me feel so nostalgic for some reason lol.
This makes me feel so old lol. I was a freshman in high school when this game dropped.
Never comment on UA-cam but you don’t miss this video was a great representation of how 2k15 is peak but 16 or 11 are the best 2k
My GM is still in the game. It’s just customizable but all the features are still there and in 25 you can now walk around the teams front office building and do tasks for immersion. I’m not defending 2k at all haven’t got a new one since 23. They failed me this year because they added a stupid curry era when fans been wanting 60s and 70s era.
how does bro drop bangers every siingle time great job man
2k15 is the "smackdown here comes the pain" of nba 2ks. It was perfection. The last 8 2ks have been a joke in comparison. If they bring back this gameplay 2k could be great again
2k16 was great too
16 was the best
It was 16 imo but I respect it cus 15 was my first park experience. As long as u dont say 17 were good 😭
@@Cameo96_ I took a break from 2k once 17 came out 😂
I spent so much time in My Career in this. This will always be my favorite 2k of all time
2k16 out of the box & before the patches was the peak of 2k.
I don’t think this man has gone 24 hours without mentioning something wrong with Madden 😂
The greatest video game soundtrack of all time in my opinion. Pharrell picked some bangers
I feel like you need to do retrospective on 2k13
Damn near every game has declined in gameplay ever since the introduction of microtransactions
8:10 the city needs to look like this and not like an amusement park
Any of 2k games that had a 5 behind the 2k in their year was 🔥🔥 football and basketball
I absolutely LOVED in (I think it was) MyGM you couldn't just automatically relocate a team. The other teams had to vote on your proposal and you had to get a specific number of yes votes, so your proposal had to be good
I miss being able to just play the game to level up my MyPlayer, not dropping a whole video game’s worth of money on micro-transactions
i started 2k17 on switch and loved it. hate to see how bad it’s gotten
Literally as Im watching this i loaded up 2k15 again, time to go back into memory lane
I still play this nonstop on pc I love this game
"Who'd had thought" 🤣 it was rough having dion waitors as a mentor. I think he's the reason that motivated me to graduate.
2k16-17 me and my buddies had a League and we’d all come over the crib smoke and play are games …great times
7:09 lol, this is really great. More sim games should do this kind of stuff.
The soundtrack on 15 was fire 🔥
Greatest part of this game was your myplayer randomly talking once per season about his love for sharks
If you played Fifa 14-17 vs 23/24 now the Regression is unbelievable and just makes no Sense!
2k has it' flaws but the gameplay is pretty damm good...
This is where I first heard tribe called quest
Ngl as someone who had 5000 games in park in 15 and is my fav 2k ever you can’t talk about the park and myplayer section giving it credit without mentioning demigods which it was REALLY made 15 what it was
