Jim Henson once said if someone had told his mother he would take a golf ball and her old green coat and become famous, she probably would have believed them.
I saw these actual puppets in the Jim Henson Experience that traveled to my town, along with many other old Jim Henson puppets throughout the decades. It was one of the coolest exhibits I think I’ve ever seen. I highly recommend attending this wonderful exhibit.
Legends Jim Henson and Frank Oz made really impressive, silly, and heart-warming songs and Muppet skits. Their imaginations combined makes for unforgettable memories that we all can share. :)
I remember an episode where they had the Henson Muppet out for a song, then he returned backstage, and Kermit does a little double-take. "Hmm, one of them looks familiar!" 🤣🤣
i cant beleive i was really alive and able to comprehend this show when it aired in the 70's o m g im old but even after all these years the muppets rock like no other show !!!!
What makes this video so great is that Roger Miller (who sang this song originally I think) loved making kids smile and laugh and wrote some of the music for Robin Hood. The fact that it can still make me smile amd laugh at my age is amazing and my 3 year old goes to daycare singin "momma woujoo weep fer me, DEE TEE DEDALEE BOW BA BA BO BO BOY!"
Really? I loved this as a kid - unthreatening - funny - cute - hilarious -- and I never got that "uncanny valley" effect until I saw some bad (common) CGI... I still love it now. Hope it has stopped scaring "the crap" out of you!
@@schubertuk Not anymore, thankfully! I loved muppets of all sorts growing up, but there was just something about the ones that looked too human that really creeped me out :)
Since you posted this video in 2007, I have come back here several times a year, listening to this song, and it always puts a smile on my face. Jim Henson was truly a great artist, and all his work is so heartwarming and entertaining and funny at the same moment. Thanks for the upload!
This is the greatest song ever produced. We should send this into space in a capsule for any other intelligent life forms to watch and then after viewing it they'll put rocks into their spaceships and fly straight into the nearest planet made up predominantly of water.
Jim Henson...... he created magic with those puppets....he was a gift to this world. A super hero that had 4 super powers.....integrity, humor, heart and imagination.....
I grew up with the muppets as a big part of my life! I have the entire collection! I'm so glad to see others still enjoying them still too! I feel like part of the Henson family! lol I still laugh my head off at this video too... have for years!!! :)
I first heard this song at the Jackson County fair in the early 70's. The band was called California Zephyr. I bought their album, and I still have it.
I can't believe I've never seen this skit or the Jim Henson (or Frank Oz) Muppet before! Thought I'd seen them all. Thanks for posting! (By the way, if anyone is ever near Astoria, Queens, NY, the Museum of the Moving Image has a permanent Jim Henson/Muppet exhibit there. Extensive and wonderful.)
My grandpa played Roger Miller all the time and I watched the Muppet Show all the time. This and when Loretta Lynn were on the Muppet Show was some serious convergence of childhood memories.
well just in case you all dont know each of these specific muppets were made after the originals, as you can see the banjo player is Jim Hensn i do beleive the others were a producer and an assistant of some sort and i agree nothing makes me smile more than this video thanks for all the laughs when i was a kid Jim may you rest in peace god bless you!.
You are not alone there. The talented Jack Parnell & his associates helped Jim Henson arrange numerous songs - and quite a few of those arrangements were arguably improvements on the originals.
Gabrielle this mad genius only had a few song that this trio did, which is to bad they were hillarious. and i did grow up in the muppets era and it was some of the greatest family television of the time.

I love how the Jim Henson muppet scrunches his face up as he sings "You don't want my lurrrrrve". Such an insanely catchy song.
The most powerful muppet emotion: The Scrunch

Let us not forget that Roger Miller, who wrote this song and guest starred on the muppets, is also dead. RIP guys.
Such huge losses they were.
Frank Oz is the only person in this song who's still alive.
Is that Roger Miller from "King of the Road" fame?
And ... did he voice the muppet with the string bass?
