Of all the bands for Elton John to be backed by, Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem. Way cool. This has got to be the calmest Animal has ever been on drums.
So what? It is how he transforms those lyrics to song. Without the melody and the voice the lyrics would be more liked by poetry lovers. Besides he can put a beautiful melody to anyone's words or make beautiful music without words.
Elton John+Electric Mayhem+ Goodbye Yellow Brick Road=More epic win than the world seems capable of containing. I am a great deal happier having watched this.
I swear, this performance was a pivotal point in my young life. Loved the muppets I then became an Elton John fan ♡ I finally get to see this legend play next month ♡
For the intended audience (youthful), the lyrics: "I bet that'll shoot down your plane It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics" Were removed from the muppet version of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and the song still works. Great songs like this always do. And glad to see Elton sang it live with a live recorded backing track by his own band.
This makes me so happy. If I was this famous and had such a special voice talent like Sir Elton here, I would love to do this type of stuff all the time. It would be cool to this for families and children.
At first I was like "Hey he missed a verse!" Then I remembered the verse contained the line "It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics to get you on your feet again" and I was like "Oh, right. 70's TV, family show, gotcha."
This is a great song and a great performance. Probably my favorite Elton John song of all time. I noticed that the comment in this comments section that received the most thumbs up stated that "Elton John is such a poet...", but it should be noted that Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics to this song and many of Elton John's other songs during this time period in Elton's career. Elton John and Bernie Taupin were viewed as a sort of a songwriting team and they sure made for a great songwriting team.
Could it have gotten any better than this back in the day! I remember watching the 'Muppets' when I was a kid, and yes seeing this performance! Great memories, thanks!
Sir Elton Hercules John inspired me to create a character for my future video game Enter the Claytoverse. He is called the Great Elton. He is a magician with a great voice.
Elton never fails to amaze me. As someone who wasn’t born in the 70’s, I’m forever grateful that my mom introduced me to this man’s music. Simply amazing.💓
This is such a beautiful performance of this song! Elton's ability to control his sound dynamics so far away from that microphone is amazing. Flawless! And, of course, Floyd and Animal are rockin' :)
The muppet playing piano is Dr Teeth, front man for the house band Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Animal is on drums, Zoot is on saxophone, the red haired bassist is Floyd pepper, Janice is the remaining guitarist.
i'm going though a really shit time at the moment with no work or money but hell, watching this has made me so happy even if its just for a moment, big cheers...
What's immensly cool about this, is that he is really performing live and not lip synching which was the norm for a lot of 70's variety shows .....Most variety shows back then where not set up for live sound and most artists of the day, HAD to lip synch to their records ..... Unlike a lot of todays pop starts for whom lip synching is all they know how to do.
Well, The Muppet Show was taped in London, England because nobody in the U.S. wanted to pick it up (since people were still associating Henson with kid's stuff like Sesame Street & The Muppet Show was a primetime variety show primarily for adults) until it became a hit in the UK.
And that's when Elton could hit those high notes...I loved him in the 70s...not so much anymore. That's when he was keepin' it real. And the glasses and hat and clothes? CLAAAAAAASIC Elton...I remember watching this episode when I was a kid.
The song was written by Bernie Taupin, music composed by Elton John. You might rephrase the comment to read "Bernie is such a poet, and Elton is a genius at the pinao". Just a suggestion.
very timely... 'you can't plant ME in your penthouse, going back to my plough' hunting/blocking toads, ploughing & watching ocean sunsets myself asap, yes Sir EJ is grand
@revmaxx no probably becuase of the alcohol reference. Its a kid themed show so it was proabably cut. Amazing song and I love it that he did it on the show
Of all the bands for Elton John to be backed by, Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem. Way cool. This has got to be the calmest Animal has ever been on drums.
Even Animal has respect for Elton.
He was way calmer during Paul William's final number "Sad Song"
Absolutely beautiful in every way. I don't understand how anyone could ever click dislike on this. Thank you Elton
118 clicked dislike, probably not because of anything to do with the song, but probably because he is gay.
Super Lied!!! Ich kann es 1000 mal am Tag hören!!! Angenehme Melodie!!!
Stupid morons. Missing out on such beauty just because they are ugly inside.
@@tomwold7288 🤣🤣🤣
Or giant muppet haters.
This is actually my favorite performance of this song live that he’s done. It’s just so good, like, holy carp man.
But The Muppet Show isn't filmed live. How would that even work, the audience is muppets.
Whatever it's a Beautiful song by Elton and Bernie.🇬🇧🤫
yes same, even if it wasn't recorded live, the vocals are cleaner i think
"You know you can't hold me forever..." Sang that line like it was a million bucks!
Ikr?!
"The greatest talent in the history of the universe"
if you count he never wrote most of his songs, might have writen the music but not the lyrics to the songs
He always gave credit to the writer, its a well knowned
Mercury laugh of this
He’s not wrong

I just saw him on Monday 11/4 in Tampa.
For the intended audience (youthful), the lyrics:
"I bet that'll shoot down your plane
It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics"
Were removed from the muppet version of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and the song still works. Great songs like this always do.

muppets had great guests. was an amazing show
Never heard a better vocal than Elton singing this song, yes he could only sing like this for a few years but doesn't make it any less incredible
This was the first time I heard Elton John. I was nine. Still love it.
This makes me so happy. If I was this famous and had such a special voice talent like Sir Elton here, I would love to do this type of stuff all the time. It would be cool to this for families and children.

Then again, the Sandy Duncan episode featured her singing the words 'whisky sours".
@@jasonbeard4713 Sandy Duncan.
I like Vodka and tonics
you forgot the shooting the plane down
For all we know, the Swedish Chef was probably swearing 🤣

AMAZING! Elton sounds so smooth and sweet in this one... seems right at home with that band :)
Could it have gotten any better than this back in the day! I remember watching the 'Muppets' when I was a kid, and yes seeing this performance! Great memories, thanks!
Elton John rocks! 😎❤🎵
It's really amazing! This is one of my most favorite songs.
This is without doubt Eltons best live vocal performance of this tune in the seventies on youtube. Weird it should it be on the muppet show.
I loved The muppet show . and I love how he always wore such flashy outfits! Very unique, but I couldn't imagine him any other way.
Sir Elton Hercules John inspired me to create a character for my future video game Enter the Claytoverse. He is called the Great Elton. He is a magician with a great voice.
Undoubtedly one of his best songs.
Elton never fails to amaze me. As someone who wasn’t born in the 70’s, I’m forever grateful that my mom introduced me to this man’s music. Simply amazing.💓
ADORO A ELTON JOHN!!!... TODO UN GENIO MUSICAL. DIOS LE DE MUCHOS AÑOS MAS DE VIDA...
I'm 20. but this show was my childhood. it really helped me get though a hard time in my life. this was the first ep I have ever seen
Unironically, the best this song has ever sounded, and it's on the muppet show backed by electric mayhem

Absolutely brilliant the band is out of this world...!
This is such a beautiful performance of this song! Elton's ability to control his sound dynamics so far away from that microphone is amazing. Flawless! And, of course, Floyd and Animal are rockin' :)
I remember being little and thinking how wonderfully Elton John looked with the muppets... he was kinda like the human equivalent...love them both!
40 anni del più bell album del mondo.... grazie Reginald
a canção penetra dentro de nós.. a voz: maravilhosa...
Elton really sings beautifully. Animal was unusually calm. Guess Animal was enjoying Elton's singing, too.
The muppetteers keep great time with the song
EVEN IN THE MUPPETS SHOW, ELTON JOHN GAVE US A MASTERCLASS OF A SUPREME SONG.
This song is my favorite... all times... (it will be a favorite as long as there are life on earth...)
Elton looks so cute in this video and sounds great,as usual!
Melhor programa infantil que já produziram. Assisti muito na minha infância nos anos 70
This is awesome!
So many memories as a child of the 70s :)
The muppet playing piano is Dr Teeth, front man for the house band Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Animal is on drums, Zoot is on saxophone, the red haired bassist is Floyd pepper, Janice is the remaining guitarist.
i always loved the blue guy on the sax...he was always so chill. :(
one of the few pop artists that I listen but he 's a great
Fabulous!! ~ Barry
Elton John and Leo Sayers fit into the Muppet World SEAMLESSLY
I forgot about the saxophone player. One of my favourite characters ❤️
I know!!!!! I miss those days too!!!!!
Gotta love it x

That was MAGICAL. 🪄🪄🪄🎶🎶🎶
This song is Amazing!
Este episodio lo ví a principios de los 80'sy después de tantos años quería volverlo a ver y mi sueño se realizó suerte que estuviera en UA-cam.
Damn, I miss The Muppet Show! There is nothing like it today!

brings back to many memorys growing up to this and sesame street and go old electric company good old days 70ds & 80ds

This is a hoot!!! Love it.
Wow This sends shivers down my spine
I love Elton John and the Muppets
i know everyone thinks their music is better than everyone else's but i will take 70s and 80s music even with it's silliness over the 90s anyday.
Beautiful...
I saw it when it happened. Can't believe I found it here. Everything is on UA-cam
great singer and song

Elton John i Mapety - to mieszanka wybuchowa!
Hahaha. I was in grade 7 that year. For some reason I didn't watch the Muppet Show. We got the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road when it came out.
He is sensational live.
