    When the car shakes, it is usually the ignition coils. I had this on my FIAT and after the change, it drives now like a dream

    Oh look its Amber. I love how some people commented with those breakup rumors to my comment on that recent previous video and I shut them down and told them I wouldn't believe it until I hear it from John. Also, in the beginning of the video, look at the way she looks at him. Maybe one day I will find a woman that looks at me like that. So lucky. John once again, great channel. Still my fave.

    As a newer Abarth owner, I'm pumped for this series. Yeah, some people say those Alpha coils really don't make a difference, but on a car with that mileage, I'm sure it was an improvement.

    Dealers use the VIN to warranty the part should it go bad.
    Usually they communicate this with wholesale customers.
    Also they can't send anything back, if you return it or decide you don't want it the next day they are stuck with it for nine months.

    JR, I did the coil pack swap out a couple of years ago on my 2015 Abarth. I got them from Amazon and they came labeled as Bosch not FCA. Have not had a problem since. Have over 74K miles on the 2015.

    We have the same problem with ordering parts from the dealership here in Trinidad. Guys in the dealership always want the certified copy to get the VIN so they can look up the parts at least at the dealerships I deal with. Now that I think about it even aftermarket part shops ask for VINs these days.

    The Abarths in the UK never had the Multiair engine but between 2010 and 2016 I have owned a Fiat Punto Evo 1.4 NA multiair with the 1.4 non turbo engine (105BHP) and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Multiair Turbo (170bhp), both had the same power delivery issues you describe above and led me to getting rid of both cars.
    The Punto had a really poor cold start and sometimes the engine would just stall when you pull away and then would be really hard to restart. The Giulietta would develop a misfire in Dynamic mode if you put your foot flat to the floor under any load (such as on a hill) and was also rough on cold starts. Both cars also had an awful hesitation if you lifted off in second gear and then re-applied the power (such as when timing for gaps in traffic).
    It seems these coils completely fix the issue which i am happy to hear as I was completely put off this engine.
    Did you notice any improvement in Fuel economy after fitting these?

  • @kennyduarte783
    @kennyduarte783 5 років тому +18

    Wow, I feel so attacked!😂
    I’m a parts guy myself and I get it.... I think I can beat your situation though! My dream car is the BNR32 Nissan Skyline GT-R since they’re now legal but being that Nissan never sold these here or anything with a RB series engine, getting parts might be an issue.... so I called up my local Nissan dealership and explicitly asked them if they could help me if I bought a SKYLINE GT-R, not the R35 GT-R.
    “Sure, got a VIN?”
    “No it wont have one, I’m talking about a Japanese car that would be imported from Japan. It’ll have a serial number but not a VIN. Nissan never sold Skylines here but I’ve heard your dealership has serviced them before.” Not BSing, a former Nissan tech that now works at my dealership told me they’ve had a R32 or 2 come in for servicing.
    “Once you get the VIN, call us back!”🤬🙄😫

    • @charlesalberti563
      @charlesalberti563 5 років тому +1

      There's companies all around that import parts for jdm imports. Type in jdm parts (insert state/area here) into Google and you should be able to find someone. I was running into the same worries when I started saving for a Subaru sambar (still saving though 😂)

    • @gustardo
      @gustardo 5 років тому +2

      Hi men, i get to know that is really common in the USA that Nissan dealerships aren´t prepared to deal with Skylines GTR's (R32, R33, R34), i used to have a BNR32, an HCR32, and a ECR33 GTS-25t, and let me tell you, they aren´t so dificult to mantain, they use a lot of interchanble nissan parts, just dig deeper on google, or if you want, you can PM me. good luck with your future BNR32

    • @dasarge84
      @dasarge84 5 років тому +1

      i have to say the VIN requirement can be infuriating. i love my nissan dealership here as i give them the serial number off my R34 GTR and they can order the parts up for me. the VIN is also often needed to bring up your cars spacific information as its not uncommon for the manufacturer to do mid year updates for the car. it might be a pain but alot of times the parts catalog wont let you look anything up without a VIN/serial number

    Ran into the same problem at the local Subaru dealer for a cabin filter, they would not sell it to me without a VIN. I know the reason they do this is because parts can change mid model year but for some of us the research has already been done.

    I've had to walk out of oreileys before, because they wouldn't sell me generic copper spark plugs. I said 3 times, i just need the cheap ones, I'm working on things, performance isn't an issue, just needs to fire on all 6. Guy kept saying 'you need to buy the recommended iridium blah blah'. Literally walked out. Walked next door to autozone, got my 6 plugs and a fuel filter, with no bullshit or questions asked. Like it shoulda been in the first place.

  • @seanwieland9763
    @seanwieland9763 5 років тому +1

    You can also upgrade the fuel injectors to ones from ATP with a higher rate of flow for using E85 gasoline - since you live in corn country. Your fuel economy will suffer since E85 has less energy, but in the high 10:1 compression of the MultiAir it's equivalent to something like 105 octane.

    • @WatchJRGo
      @WatchJRGo  5 років тому +2

      I'd love to do the E85 injectors but you need to turn up the boost to take advantage of the fuel. No point in more octane if you were't detonating already. Then I'd want a pump, then I'd keep turning it up, the cycle never ends 😛

    Did you put plugs in it when you were swapping coils, that might help some. As far as that intermediate shaft, I used to have a couple of the 80's Turbo Mopars and to try and tame some of the torque steer, they had something like that. If you have ever seen a LWB, 2wd truck or van that uses an intermediate shaft and carrier bearing so it doesn't have a 20' long drive shaft, this is the same idea, but adapted to a FWD application. There should be some sort of joint (my Turbo K-Cars used a u-joint) coming right out of the transmission, thenshaft then ran to a carrier bearing bolted to the crossmember about where the passenger side "frame rail" was, then had a socket that the passengerside CV assembly fit into. I would check out the joint, the diff bearings, and the carrier bearing (if there, and check it's mounts too), as well as any engine mounts in that part of the car.

I am thinking an MX-5 would be more reliable but with a higher resale value for the same miles. For looks, I would add red and gold to the black to match the front emblem, and you can buy scorpion decals. I am a fan of Pirelli Scorpion Verde all season tires for how quiet and smooth they are, how long they last, and for less than Michelins.

    Maybe they had to have the vin because the manufacturer wants the data on what’s breaking or wearing out. Not because they can’t put the p/n you have into the computer to locate the part. They are probably paid extra for that customer data, because under normal circumstances it’s specific to an actual owner’s car.

    Don't hate on parts guys. Some suck, but I've been doing it more than 10 years. Here is a tip. Get the part number before you go to the dealer. You DO NOT have to have a VIN if you have a part number

    Since the late 80s people in Europe swapped parts from Alfa to Fiat and to Lancia. So common and not so exotic.

    Unfortunately at most dealers, their parts system is not the same as a chain auto parts store. If they don’t have a vin, they can’t do a damn thing and there’s no way around it.

    The reason it doesn’t shutter under hard pull in first gear. Is the torque mount is soft. It allows the trans to move back. Which make the distance of prop shafts to wheel hub change. So the joint rides on a different spot on the prop shaft that is not as worn or not worn at all.
    If coil improved power. It’s torquing motor/trans more. Changing the distance.
    Shutter will feel better. Then seem worse under moderate power between 40-60. Because joint will ride on it’s normal spot inside prop shaft.
    After shaft is fixed. You need a torque mount stiffener. Huge difference from 1st to 2nd shift. Will feel like diff car.

    Hi! I NEVER buy parts from the dealership for my 500 , I have a local import auto part that they don’t work by vin number ,you buy what ever you want from them, they don’t care what are your going to do with it, try to find one at your location.
