In this episode I fly down to Florida to checkout a salvage yard and look for my next project. Turns out that people are STILL getting ripped off on salvage Teslas.

So when the subwoofer blow out, it took the window with it and started a fire.
I can see the toasted amp wire. Shit was probably installed with no fuse up front.

Those are the Copart cars I refuse to touch. Every car is there for a good reason, and if you can't see it, it's because the seller doesn't want you to know.

That Hellcat has no exterior damage and no deployed airbags, at Copart? There HAS to be something wrong underneath it, could be suspension but its not sitting lower in any of the corners. Looks too damned good to be true.

You never mentioned the multi color smart car that was in front of the Hellcat. That would make a perfect EV conversion. WIth those mismatched colors it would make a great clown car, just like you Rich.

@@YT0091 It's actually a biohazard ☣ sticker. Salvage yards put it in cars that have blood stains and other related stuff in them from the accident.

Ford Diesel? Not for long mate. I worked with 3 before, they are crap from beginning. Good truck? Small size, Tacoma. Heavy? Sierra Diesel, good tow, haul.
Hellcat? Gas monster. 27 gal for 150 miles.

I see a lot of salvage cars in auctions running up to normal prices. People are crazy.
Consider the owners upbidding their vehicles.

Sometimes insurance companies talk people into getting their car designated as totaled when it really wasn't, and those cars end up with a salvage title after what could have just been a small accident in their history, because a previous owner was short sighted.
Cash for Clunkers ruined the salvage market. Before that you could drive any new car at 1/2 price or less.
Now the chip shortage has salvage up even higher. Gov't ruins everything . No mystery

But the ones to look for are the non-modified 1988 GTs or Formulas. Their prices are growing fast. Great desirable cars !

$1,500 is not bad for that big windshield. My 750 had a crack, because of those pesky rock on the freeway, and to replaced it it cost $2,500. Maybe I was ripped off or something 🧐🤷🏻♀️
Personally, I'd go for the hellcat, but I could totally see you getting the fiero, putting in a Zero motor, and getting a funky Ferrari 308 body kit for it. Next project?

Won't it still be supercharger banned, though? I thought there were some adapter issues as well to get decent DC fast charging for a Tesla if you're not using a supercharger. And you can again pay about 1k more for a car with no prior damage repairs.

@@GeraldMMonroe I think that's why he said that he would remove the SIM card, so that Tesla can't block him again. He would lose over-the-air updates, but really it's a choice between updates and charging fast.

I remember the Fiero years. There was a lot of excitement in the car world when the 6 cylinder version came out. That was the same era that gave us the Buick Grand National that caused Buick executives to get in trouble because it beat the Corvette in the quarter mile.

As for the Feiro, I remember a neighbor of mine doing kits back in the mid-90s with them. Lambos, Ferrari, He would work out of his home and due to a turnkey car. The chassis of these cars are one in a million considering that they could also do a Cuntoch.

1988 the last year of the Fiero, is the best year of it. Pontiac was finally allowed to build it the way they wanted from the start. That red one looks like an 88 but the only way to be sure is check the VIN. Some people did take older ones and put all the changed for 88 parts on, but some just got the new 1988 body parts to put on an older one.

Every person that has ever asked me about buying a salvage Tesla to save money I have told them "look up Rich Rebuilds on UA-cam" and a grand total of ZERO have pursued it after learning about the horrors of dealing with Tesla on parts or repairs. I would imagine that most of these extremely high bid vehicles are going to other countries that don't have branded titles or where these vehicles are impossible to find. If you watch the auctions live you will see a LOT of overseas bidders that bid more than retail on salvage vehicles.
Rich, I just discovered your videos and I absolutely love them. You're an impressive talent when it comes to cars, but it looks like you're an even better father to your kids. Love seeing how much fun you all have together. Wish you all nothing but the best in the future

That hellcat is missing it's coolant. Aftercooler reservoir is full, but main coolant tank empty. May need an engine
At 15:40 you can see the passenger side frame rail is buckled, and swayed to the right.
The reason Fieros were popular is they were under $10,000 new when they came out.

Anyone else grow up in the 80's having a Fiero remote control car. By remote control I mean actually wired remote control tethered to the car with which you could pop up the headlights and honk the horn, back then this was a big deal. Anyways work at a body shop part time and we worked on Fiero converted to a Lamborghini, it looked a little off. Not to mention a visible when standing next to it link chain (12-16 inches long) holding or reinforcing the a section behind the driver and passenger's shoulder.
The Hell cat sold at a Florida auction in December for $25,500 by an insurance company and then at a different Florida auction in March for $29,500 by a third party. The first auction showed damage to the passenger side.
