Also, Hunter Zolomon, the other Reverse-Flash did learn what Thawn did and turned over a leaf before he died a hero.

@@JtheBOSS I think it was The Flash Vol 5 issue 81, Hunter has become a conduit for all the force powers and wants to kill the Black Flash. Barry showed him a memory that Thawne may have been involved in turning Hunter into a villain. Hunter felt remorse for all the tragedy he inflicted on Wally,and against Barry's pleas, resigned to fix the Force Barrier by sacrificing himself as atonement.
Some time later on, Hunter is later shown imprisoned within the Speed Force reliving his worst memories, he can technically escape due to having other powers but chooses to stay for self reflection and clarity. He eventually escaped with all his personal progress gone, reclaiming his mission to make Wally West the perfect and greatest hero.
Hunter Zolomon never was a reverse flash his name is Zoom in comics he's also called Zoom because originally Eobard was Professor Zoom and Zolomon was Zoom and after that Thawne became reverse flash.
@@MasterTemplar781 The name “Reverse-Flash” is simply a term for evil Flash. For Jay Garrick it’s the Rival, for Barry it’s Eobard, for Wally it’s Zolomon, for Bart it’s Inertia. Iris’ brother; the 2nd Wally’s dad in New 52 is also considered a Reverse-Flash.
This is why I LOVE the character. He doesn't have a reason other than "I don't like Barry". That's it. He doesn't need the world lmao. THIS is what scary and dangerous people are made of. Pure 100% hatred based fixation.

The reverse flash is literally the epitome of a flash villian. Hell, It can be said that Eobard's jounrey from admiring Barry to.hating him literally shows the very definition of how someone can become the Villiain. He is a menace and will stop at nothing to win.
Imo he’s almost the opposite. He’s a Batman or Supes villain in a rogues gallery of Flash villains. Flash’s rogues are usually less psychotic, and don’t murder as much, just petty criminals with superpowers. Reverse Flash is so special because he’s so different than all of Flash’s enemies

I'll still always think the most heart wrenching and disturbing moment between these two is when Eobard explains to Berry that in high school when he was making out with his fist girlfriend and came right she touched his leg that it was actually him, Berry was probably bullied and got no further action for the rest of highschool. Diabolical.

You forgot the most important and heartbreaking part of Thawne's transformation: The Revelation.
While he is confused about Wally being taken under Barry's wing, he goes to the Flash Museum to clear everything up...only to see that he was an important member. The problem was it was Flash's arch nemesis.
Imagine finding out that you, the biggest fan of all-time for your hero, turned out to be destined to be his greatest adversary. Thawne, in that very panel, snapped.
If he couldn't be the Flash or his sidekick, he would be way, way worse...
He's disgusting, but we all would go absolutely mad if we literally saw what we were never supposed to see: our fate.
The Flash has been my favorite superhero for decades, ever since my first trip to my local comic book store. I love that he could choose to run way from conflict so quickly that his issues would never catch up, yet he chooses to charge at them with the same speed. It’s corny, but that actually was inspiring years ago.
That’s what makes RF so much more terrifying than most any other villain in my opinion. He’s a time traveler. He could change things for the better, yet his sole focus is to screw with Barry Allen. What a concept. Thanks for posting this! Well researched and articulated video about one of the greatest rivalries in comics.

This is actually the best ending for reverse flash, and it’s the most Barry way of defeating him. Now I know why Barry was given a blue ring during Blackest night
Yup. The Flash to me is truly the hero of friendship and second chances, even more so than Spider-man or Batman. I say the Flash specifically rather than Barry, as one prime example is the scene with I think it was Trickster from the Justice League animated series, where Flash(Wally West) talked to him like old pals casually, got him to go back to prison on his own. I like to think the Flash develops those kinds of relationships with most of his rogues, like Captain Cold/Snart, Mirror Master, just kind of after awhile yeah being enemies, but also kind of being pals like one moment they could be fighting, the next it's masks off and they're inviting one another to a Barbecue.
I love reverse flash. He's the perfect archenemy. He knows he can't exist without Barry, so he just makes his life as hard as possible.
Basically, Barry should've signed Thawne up for some Anger Management lessons.

i wonder if this total inability to change is a result of time travel. hes constantly directly interfering with his own past so he may have built up a snowballing feedback loop that essentially erased his own free will, so now he has to act on the same exact feeling of pettiness that started him down this road because its become his entire existance, rather than being stuck in time hes literally stuck in an emotion, and once that emotion was gone (due to forgiveness) so was he.
Anyone who goes out of his way to push you down a flight of stairs as a kid is built completely different😂
What i like about the reverse flash is that he really does stand out, with this whole wave of "Sigma" villains happening, Eobard thawn is nothing like that, he's just your typical petty villain, and i mean a VERY well written one, he might not be someone easily relatable but he's just.. annoying? annoying in like such a cool way, if that makes sense, ive never seen a petty character make himself look so cool like the reverse flash does.

Haven't you watched The Incredibles? It was literally Syndrome's plan to save people from disasters he created himself. Hell, Pixar probably took the idea from Reverse Flash.
It's really terrifying to imagine that you might be The Flash to someone's Reverse Flash... Another man trying countless times trying to ruin your life so it would suck so hard to the point they try to make you realize who your true friends are... Damn...
This is why I love Barry Allen. He’s such a hero, through and through and he always does his best even for his worst enemy.
Also, does anyone have a source for the comic where Eobard torments Barry as a kid? Pushing him down the stairs, killing his childhood friend…if it wasn’t for the lightning strike on his lab that night, isn’t crazy how easily Barry could have thought he was just being haunted by something malevolent? The Flash could have been a paranormal story.
I actually love the idea of this. A Flash horror story from the perspective of a young Barry Allen being fucked with by RF. If executed well, it could be really good.
It's worth mentioning that he didn't just shake that girls head to give her brain damage, he went BACK IN TIME to when she was a girl and did it then so she'd live the rest of her life brain damaged.

The Flash show actually made an interesting twist with the origin of the Reverse Flash. Everything started off the same, but Barry didn’t visit him in the future. Instead, Thawne was combing through the timeline and saw it was his destiny to become the Flash’s greatest villain. Instead of fighting destiny, he chose to accept it and play his role to the best of his ability.

The flash is a very deep and layered character and so is his enemy and paradox, The reverse flash. However this isn't something that you would find at first glance. I loved how you covered both of those characters really well. I particularly like how you started by saying the reverse flash is pathetic and ended by saying that the reverse flash is wholesome. Thanks for doing him well!

@@shaheer1172 I remember ten somewhat completed stories or so. However, technically the number is limitless since dark universes used to be constantly created and destroyed. Essentially, they are "failed" versions of the main 52 universes (and a bottomless source of all kinds of twisted nightmares).

I know I’ve already mentioned this series in one of your other comment sections, but you should definitely see if you can dig up Bart Allen’s run as the Flash from like 2005 or so. It’s a really great and tragic story, and it leads into that All Flash issue you covered.

The reverse flash is the ultimate stalker who could never have his own life because they are way to upsets with a single person. Forgiveness is a very powerful thing. I think that story shows in it's own way how powerful forgiveness can be.

in the silver age flash comics (barry allen’s original comic book appearances before dying in Crisis on Infinite Earths (1985) - where he wouldnt reappear until the 2000s), eobard did kill Iris, or at least it looked like it. He phased his hand into her forehead and she died. years after, eobard would attempt to do the same to barry’s new fiance, and this is why barry snaps his neck - barry then stands trial, and after being found guilty of murder he leaves to the 30th century where iris is, that’s where she was after she “died”. they have their twins and barry is called back to die in the Crisis.
From his name alone you can tell reverse Flash is the pettiest, most spiteful villain and its super funny to me

For real. The story of Thawne's origin practically exists on a never-ending cycle of torment, predetermined fate and pure unfathomable hatred for his hero, and committing some of the most heinous, twisted and pettiest acts just to torment someone long enough to become their archnemesis and to constantly repeat the cycle, despite knowing that he will never win, is both an incredibly messed up existence, but truly terrifying to fathom considering Thawne's immense power. Just one of the reasons why Reverse-Flash is my favourite comic book villain. Eobard Thawne is the literal definition of a *menace* .

Fun fact literally no one talks about - the Thawne in the thumnail is a different version spawned from a potential future timeline of New 52. He disappears and is never referenced again once mainstream Thawne returns after 2016's Rebirth.

Thawne is a much too real character we see every day and even more these days. Pettiness is no way to live and it's not worth making your sole purpose in life, you need to find ways to make yourself whole and not just fill it with negative emotions just because it feels the most real in the moments when you have nothing else.
