If you choose the Haggling social perk, it is very beneficial to go to the school and talk to the children often. Not only with this level up their friendship with you (which will last into their adulthood), but it gives you access to trades with them where you can get sand, leaves, or other items for free. The leaves are useful in the Instant Money potion, and the sand is useful to smelt into glass panes.
Getting the Steel Watering Can as early as possible in the game will literally change the whole game for you. It does not need refilling, so it is perfect to give to a farm helper so they can water all your crops and trees for you. Freeing up that time lets you do more foraging and questing, and you never have to worry about their watering can running empty.
My best tip is to farm trees as if they were a crop. Plant a few to harvest for the fruit they give, sure. But plant as many others as you can to harvest for their wood. Fruit trees give 20 wood each when you chop them, and at only 15 days to grow this is a valuable resource you can stockpile for yourself with an early investment in seeds. For me I planted ten extra trees (it does not matter what kind) in spring, and then in summer when i was ready to build a barn that extra wood made it all possible.
I have a tip which might be a spoiler for some, so read at your own risk. It is very beneficial to befriend Astra Vosen as quickly as you can. If you get enough friendship points with her, she will invite you to a Secret Meeting, which can help your farm's productivity very much in the next seasons. Jam is a loved gift for Astra, so if you carry some on you all the time you will always be ready to gift her some as often as you see her. This will allow you to attend the Secret Meeting as early as the first spring, which can make a huge difference to your income and levelling for the rest of that year.
It may be obvious to some, but I've seen others battling hunger so ... I'd say be sure to harvest as many plantains and violets as you possibly can, even buying violets from the doctor, the lighthouse keeper, or anyone else you see who sells them. This makes Survival Salad, and you can get enough food from this one resource to last you all through spring and well into summer. That saves you a lot of hassle as well as money because it frees you up to sell or gift whatever edible resources you may have, such as dried fish or cooked dishes, which is a much better use for them than just eating them.
The survival salad really did help me survive the first spring of the game. At first I was confused on what to do with the plantain since I couldn't sell them, good thing I saw it was for the salad 🥗
additional for 12th tips : i realize that yield ur harvest will give a chance to have a better quality crops. i compare this with my 2 field of wheat. i harvest the 1st square of wheat field and they only give 2-4 gold star, and mostly silver and bronze quality. and then i yield the crops of other blocks of wheat field, i yield it for 1 week. i harvest it and from 20 block, i got 17 gold quality wheat so yielding ur crops = better quality and amounts
If you let your child work the farm, the game may stutter every two seconds. To fix it, I made my kids's occupation go back to school and it fixed itself after that. Hope they fix that bug sometime soon cuz I wanted a little helper for the farm 😭🥺
I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't experience that in my playthrough even when I had 2 of my kids help in the farm but it's good to know there's a workaround. Thanks for sharing. 😊
That's nice! You must be taking good care of yourself, maybe you don't let yourself go hungry, you sleep when you need to, and the npcs from the boat haven't spread any disease to your town. 😁

I also always choose the haggling perk, it always feels nice to get discounts and free items 😄

Yesss, the steel watering can is so good, I almost forgot how it feels to refill. And it's in good hands with the farm helpers 😊
