Great tip: Paint the minis whatever flesh tones you like! Don't have to wait for GW to make "diverse" heads (frankly that even comes off as a little racist to some degree.)
People these days can identify as whatever they want maybe all the white dudes identify as ethnic minority females making it the most diverse group in the history of warhammer.
Which deak lamp do you have there? Im trying to find a lighting solution and not found anything too good yet. Ive seen a few that look like yours whick looks ideal. Most of my painting is done in the evenings and no matter how many standard desk lights I set up I cant find anything with suitable illumination. Im quite happy to spend a bit of £ to get one but not sure which. Yours looks tip-top!
The specific one I have is the neatfi 24 watt, 2200 lumen task lamp. It's definitely up there in price, but it's bright, has a great white balance, good diffusal of light, and a strong, long arm.
@@TableTopAckley in UK its about £100 which will be money very well spent im sure. 2200 lumins is an impressive output - plus id imagine there is no glare if you get the right height and angle for it. its at the top of my shopping list - thanks!
What size magnets did you use for the heads as I just got the new castellan crowe for the grey knights and he has a helmet and face option but I love the way they both look
Thank you! I've had it in hand since release, and so far the Sentinel is the only unit I've done anything with 😅. I'm hoping to ramp up my content now that the holidays are past us.
Instead of using glue to melt the sprue, what about making full on sprue goo with a bottle of acetone? Melt the sprue in a glass bottle of acetone, then use the goo to fill the hole and let dry overnight.
@@TableTopAckley I'd suggest Miniature Hobbyist (youtube channel) for ideas there/ He's done a LOT of melting down sprues and using the materials for other things.
Love it! Been doing the same, 4-5 units for heavy weapons / melee weapon customisations. Admittidly I still heavily pray to the church of "blue-tac+glue" as opposed to sprue goo. So fill opening with Bluetac. put magnet on the torso and push it in.... mix the hole and bluetac with glue and mount magnet :)
Plastic putty from Vallejo is easier than green stuff. Just squeeze from the bottle in the hole and wait 24 hours. Oh and the special container on the sergeant is a spare drum for the grenade launcher. They keep it in a pouch
I personally use a thumbnail or thumbtack to make the initial pilot hole and then use a hobby knife to widen it. That way you can keep the blade tip sharp for longer
To fit the opposite drillholes better, I first drill a 1 mm hole, then put in a short piece of paperclip and give a small amount on paint on the tip. Then press the two pieces - for example arm and body - together and then you have the point on the other piece in perfect place. I use my knive only to make a tiny spot for a small drill. The hole is than drilled in two steps. First with a 1 mm drill and then with the 2 mm drill. So your tip of the knive lives longer. Hope this is all understandabale. My school english is about 30 years away 😁
Great video, but your texture paste can be cheaper, here in Australia we have a dollar shop or Discount warehouses, they sell a cheaper version of the Texture paste costing around $7.00 Aust. a lot cheaper and works better than hobby companies stuff, and I buy my brushes, etc from them, but I have been a keen modeler since I was ten years old, now in my late 50's cheers Everyone
No worries. I admittedly did a poor job speaking to the topic in this video because I wasn't sure how much I should go into this, and that is a regret I have in regards to this video (among numerous others). I mentioned privilege not in relation to miniatures, but as a preface to what I would then say regarding inclusion in the hobby. I can only speak to it from a US perspective, but essentially what I wanted to convey is that I support making the hobby inclusive for people of all backgrounds, regardless of gender, race, etc., and I think the improved diversity among the new bits improves that, even if it's not some major step forward. I mention privilege specifically to say I may not be the most qualified to speak to this. I am not a member of any of these groups which traditionally have faced prejudice or systemic oppression. That does not mean, however, that I can't empathize. Ultimately, I just want people to feel welcome. I hope that clarifies things for you. I'm happy to speak further to this, but there are people far more qualified to speak into complex social topics like this than I.
Nice stuff bud alot of work to do this with these minis :-O but also future proofing or if you just wanted to make them cultists be it for chaos or genestealers :-) But what did you mean that you obviously come from a place of privilege??
I hadn't even thought of the cross-army potential, but that is a great point! It's a lot of work but I get a great sense of accomplishment when it's all done. When I refer to my privilege, I'm coming at it from a US perspective, so I guess it's not obvious to everyone. I'm simply acknowledging that I didn't face the adversity that many others face growing up and living in the US, and have never had to worry about feeling represented in the media I consume.
Annoying that you have to go to such lengths just to be able to pick different weapon options between battles, I hope GW embraces magnetizing or other forms of accessorizing in the future. Amazing guide tho, for such a new channel you have amazing production quality. You deserve every view you get and many times more. Looking forward to seeing what you have for us in the future! 👍
That's one of the things I like about BattleTech. You can play with dirty napkins if it's all you happen to have on hand, haha. And thanks for the support. I'm spending a lot of time trying to improve in each video and I feel like I'm starting to hit my stride.

Now the next 100 Cadian miniatures
What the video doesn't cover is my capacity for procrastination.
You absolutely mad man. So many magnets, so much work.
I missed the opportunity to cackle madly in a lab coat.

This is 40k, race is a bygone memory in most situations as long as you are a pure human for the imperium, I think there’s some good heads here 🤷🏽
I have used a push pin for the pilot hole before. It works really well.

Please do this with the new shock troopers

I used 2mm x 1mm magnets for the heads.
Great video!! I would love to see your take on the new Cadia stands boxset.
Thank you! I've had it in hand since release, and so far the Sentinel is the only unit I've done anything with 😅. I'm hoping to ramp up my content now that the holidays are past us.
Great stuff. I’m getting ready to magnetize some north star Frostgrave minis. Looking forward to your even more detailed guide.

Ooh, that's not something I've ever heard of, but it sounds like a solid plan. I'll have to give it a go.
@@TableTopAckley I'd suggest Miniature Hobbyist (youtube channel) for ideas there/ He's done a LOT of melting down sprues and using the materials for other things.
That's what I was thinking too, you can probably just push fit the magnet into the wet sprue goo as well?

I use small nail heads on the arms, heads and accessories and magnets on the body's

Guardsman, you did remember to turn on the gellar field in the warp right?
the guardsman: 12:00

Mind if I ask where you get your magnets from? Great work btw!
This is a mix of army painter and no name magnets that I grabbed from amazon.
Best reason to magnetise the heads is it allows you to use non GW heads but swap them out if someone gets shirty
Hadn't thought of that one, but definitely a good reason.
Regarding the “special pouch” you gave to the sergeant, if I’m not mistaken it’s supposed to be extra ammo for the grenade launcher.
Great video!
Great video, perfect timing, i needed some tips for magnetization. Building a chaos knight
I hope I can help! Chaos knights are a considerably larger beast to tame.
New to the channel and absolutly love it. Keep it up !

You just saved me a bundle of cash, thanks man!
Sad you did this right before 2022 cadians came out lol
I had to add clarification to the title so soon after posting, haha.
At 1.05 you said you come from a place of privilege. What do you mean by this in relation to painting minis? Genuinely curious.

You lost me at white privilege and diversity (but credit where it’s due: nice work. You’ve convinced me to go the magnet route)
Mad man

Your going way too far with magnets it is completely unecessary to do the heads
Exactly what I would do👍
I'm taking it too far so others don't have to.
Then you can also magnetize the forgeworld cadian heads, and some catachan heads
