Let us know how you're feeling about Millie's casting! We're guessing that for most of you, the main feeling is "old".
Yup. She's a year younger than my daughter. ☺️
I disagree. I feel very old…
4 was my first doctor. Millie is the same age as my oldest granddaughter.
I started watching when Jon Pertwee was the Doctor. Compared to this Old Man you're just a Little Child.
I’m sooo excited for this duo! I think this season will be great!!!!
Ruby Sunday reminds me of Ruby Tuesday.
The song lyrics fit a companion too:
"She would never say where she came from
Yesterday don't matter if it's gone
While the sun is bright
Or in the darkest night
No one knows
She comes and goes
-
-
She just can't be chained
To a life where nothing's gained
And nothing's lost
At such a cost"
Goodday, Ruby Sunday
Do you know the name of Doctor Who?
With what you'll learn every new day
Welcome to Doctor Who
I wonder if this might be a description of her charakter.
I thought the same. ¿Maybe an alien companion or From some human circunstance she has to jode His origin? ¿From a deep future?
It would bei awesome to have a companion not from present day Britain.
If I had a nickel for every time Davies picked a blonde girl as the first companion of his run as showrunner I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice.
Interesting coincidence that the first time RTD was showrunner, he had Billie Piper starring as Rose and now as showrunner, first episode he has Millie Gibson playing Ruby. 2 actresses with similar first names playing characters with 4 letter names starting with R.
And both blonde!
Imagine if she turns out to be rose Tyler’s kid, the daughter of the meta-crisis doc and rose, returned from the alternate dimension… considering all these similiar things you’ve said and the fact the 10th doctor returns as 14th for the specials.
Also the fact that rose Tyler and ruby sunday has connection with the color red in their names: rose for the red rose and ruby for the red gem… more coincidence and considering RTD likes mysteries or something it might be more clues. Possibly though either that or it was sheer utter coincidence.
RTD trying to revive the show with a shaved hair Doctor and a young blonde girl companion
We've been through this before
@@poado1469 And it WORKED the last time!
I hope the writing improves. These new actors can act, they just need good scripts detailing compelling stories 📓
Chiball is gone the dark times are over
You hope.
@@mymartianhome Russell T. Davies is one of the greatest writers in Great Britain. It's not hard to find hope
RTD can do a good script but he is lumbered with Chibnals legacy to undo and he does have an obsession with the gays.
@@triforceofcourage100 But RTD may decide to not undo Cibnalls legacy.
That would be a mistake.
I'm 63 years old... I was a child when the first doctor began his run on Australian TV... my children began watching that same doctor when they were young, and then the new version began... each generation was charmed, chilled and amused by the wealth of characters, species, historical... ok not so historical... situations depicted in each series. I cannot imagine what my imagination would have been like without the inspiration, the world building that dr who brought to us all... I honestly hope dr who will never stop being made.
facts babes facts!
63 as well, and Tom Baker was my 1st Doctor.
I'm a 64 year old First Episoder and beyond excited for the new era of Doctor Who. Just because Millie is a modern-day young person doesn't mean that how her character will be written. Can't wait to see what Russell T does with all the moving parts he's created.
52 years old and Tom Baker was my first Doctor.
58 years old from Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. I watched them all due to repeats but I think I became concious of the 2nd Doctor, first. Totally agree with everything you said, but the trouble is that I don't want to eventually die and miss out on episodes made after I'm gone! Plus, not being able to see new episodes on the ABC from 2023 is a bummer. No free to air broadcast in Australia will lose some of the audience.
"The combined age of Millie Gibson and Ncuti Gatwa is 48." Why? Why you gotta play me like that, Ellie? I already feel old enough without knowing I'm older than the entire cast of Doctor Who combined. Why, Ellie? WHY?!
Lol oldhead
Ah, but are you old enough to have watched the very first episode of Dr Who when it first aired? I am and I did!
Born 2004, did her GCSEs during covid
Feel old? You're welcome
Thanks for that 😔
she was not born when Billie Piper was announced as Rose Tyler, that happened in May 2004, she was born 19th June 2004
I very much hope that Ruby and Fifteen will simply be best mates. No need to labour the point. I like that I don't already know much about Millie as an actress, so I have no preconceptions about the character of Ruby. I'll take the rest as it comes!
Yh im a bit bored of the romance in doctor who especially under RTD
Just wait for the media trying to get her fired for not been diverse enough and review bombing the show.
Same 💯
I hope they do sex
There's no way it'll still be on Sundays now that RTD and Bad Wolf are back
No wonder Kelly's story on Coronation Street just quickly wrapped up, she just got a lead role instead of being a part of ensemble.
Think of Matt Smith, think of Karen Gillan ... You forgot Arthur Darvill... He was in Broadchurch, he was in DCs Legends of Tomorrow
Good casting. The series needs to be seen through fresh eyes and younger viewers. Much like when it returned in 2005.
Exactly. Keeping Doctor Who relevant throughout the generations is what's kept it going up to now. Smart casting as usual
I don’t really make a habit of watching Coronation Street but I would occasionally watch it when my mum had it on and I always remember her being a highlight. She’s genuinely a very good actress and shone throughout the cast which was pretty exceptional given her age and some of the actors surrounding her. I was glad to hear she was leaving a couple months ago as she deserved to be in bigger things but I didn’t expect it to be for Doctor Who, but I’m glad it is. I’m looking forward to seeing her and Ncuti in the new season.
I’m excited she was great in Coronation Street, can’t wait to see her in action!
Ellie, Ruby Sunday, initials R.S - know anyone else with the same initials? Something to think about perhaps?
I think the thing is David tenant has already done children in need several times as the doctor not that it ain’t a great reason but I think it comes down to giving someone else with something todo with drwho a go or a turn in the spotlight if you will
Rose Tyler 2.0
Looks like the bog standard RTD companion. And of course she'll be from modern day England so that they can film on location in Cardiff or London or whatever when she feels homesick. I really hope we can bypass the Doctor/companion romance this time around.
Millie is from Manchester. That's why her first major acting role was on Coronation Street cus it's Manchester based.
Something tells me her looking like Rose and being named Ruby is intentional?
@BlackPhoenix77 -- I feel the same. Underwhelmed. 😒
RTD's writing has always had an element of subverting expectations and treading off the beaten path. There's no way she'll be the same character just because she's blonde and has a similar name
I am excited. I loved her in Corrie I thought she was brilliant on the soap especially during the big Sophie Lancaster storyline she was involved in. I feel with her and Ncuti together being one of the youngest TARDIS teams we have had in a while because Ncuti is 29 and will be early 30's when his episodes air and Millie is 18 and will be early 20's when the episodes air I feel the pair of them together will have a great dynamic and will bring a really great youthful and sparky energy to the show which I feel it needs. I am very happy about how this era is shaping up. We have RTD back at the helm in the writers room and a strong TARDIS team. I am excited. I'm a happy bean. All good vibes here.
Well said! 🙌
They just keep getting younger! What next, a baby?!
Next it'll be a high school drama version 😆
"I can see you're getting older. Your assistents are getting younger." (Sarah Jane Smith, School Reunion)
Stormageddon returns
I'm just happy Chibnall is out of the writing chair
I think Doctor Who is finally make the right choices it needs to make to not get cancelled again. Reel us back in with Tennant & Tate (my favourites) and then give us Natwa & Gibson, who both seem charismatic and talented. With Davies taking the lead on the show again I hope this series can get back on track so we can be gifted with several more seasons.
I feel she would be a perfect companion to end up being Rose Tyler and The other doctors daughter. It would even allow for some cameos by past characters OR she could be the doctors clone daughter after a regeneration that would be a cool tie in to the past. We need to go back to companions with good back stories
"Ruby Sunday" sounds like a reference to the Stones' "Ruby Tuesday."
All I've read is very positive comments about Millie, I've never seen Coronation Street, but if these comments are anything to go off, we're in for a heck of a duo on Doctor Who.
RTD as knack of casting and creating companions which serve as access point for many fans
The showa success in 2005 is as much to do with Billy Piper as it was Ecclestom and RTDs.
The phenomenal Freema and Catherine followed nicely in this tradition and I think Millie and Ncuti are going to be phenomenal together
They're both so young. I hope they don't treat this like another soft reboot, but they might with the Disney deal.
They kinda have to considering that’s sorta in the DNA of the show since Pertwee, Baker, McCoy, Eccleston, Smith and Whittaker
Technically the show has been constantly rebooting itself since the 1960s.. that's the genius.
@@CaptApril123 I mean yes and no. I always consider Hartnell and Troughton as one big era until Pertwee softly reboots it and that’s the first big one.
Regardless of the actress, what I really want is for the new companion to be from somewhere other than the modern UK. The past, the future, or an alien planet. I know they probably want a companion that the audience can directly relate to, but I'd love to see a new Victoria, Zoe, Steven, Leela, Romana, or even Adric or Turlough (heaven help us).
Yeah absolutely. The world is bigger than the UK and the universe is bigger than Earth!
Jamie, Nyssa, ...
Unfortunately, the show-runners don't think we're intelligent enough for that... Dumbasses...
It broke my heart when we stopped getting Christmas Specials 😭.
Ellie? You feel old? My first memory is Jon Pertwee regenerating into Tom Baker!
Don't know what else to say, but... I get a great feeling about the direction of Who in the future. I'm great with it. My life sucks in general. At least Who gives me some hope.
Keep your head up bro, things will get better!
Always remember, there's always someone who is worse off than you are.
@@davebirch1976 how does that help them though?
Having watched her on Coronation Street, she definitely has what it takes to make a great companion
So... You're saying she's just a screamer... Okay, I'll go with that.
I'm really excited about this, I think she's going to be great! I'm also really intrigued about what the dynamics are doing to be with her and the new doctor 😊
She is such a great actress and had some massive storylines coronation street so I am excited to see what will happen with her character
Part of me when I saw her I felt Billie piper vibes or is it just me
I think RTD is a big fan of the rolling stones, whose song Ruby Tuesday, was released in 1967, the 1966/67 season was also the season the Doctor first regenerated.
Who else is very glad Chris Chibnall is gone (and hopefully soon forgotten)?? Looking so forward to Russell T Davies coming back with a new Doctor and companion! Cheers....
HAPPY DOCTOR WHO DAY EVERYONE!!!
This is why RTD is the right choice to run Doctor Who. Unfortunately for Chibnall, he picked the most bland actors for companions. That was for me why I lost interest in the Thirteenth Doctor’s run. Of course the mediocre writing was part of it too.
I still think ncuit annoucement was last minute as it was about to be leaked
I'd really love to get excited about the new companion, but since the BBC decided to cut off their American fans in favor of Disney + It's probably going to be a long time before I get a chance to see her. I'm sick of shows telling long tome fans that if they want to see the next season you're going to have to pay for a subscription you have no interest in paying for to watch one show.
I'm sure she's a wonderful actress and will be great in the part, but that name has got to go. Ruby Sunday? It's totally a gag, like a stage name used by a exotic pole dancer from Soho. Either that or a specialty ice cream.
I was hoping Ellie was going to announce herself as the new companion. She'd be perfect tbh
I've often thought this myself.
Great casting!! The Corrie fanbase is strong she’ll bring not just younger viewers but older viewers aswell!
Never thought about that... Yes good point. A good producer combines artistic talent with good business sense and from a business perspective RTD just made a brilliant move.
@@CaptApril123 absolutely!! He’s cast 2 young up & coming actors people we’ve seen but not people we know well!! Both have a fan base to bring over to the show not to mention they’re both extremely talented! But 1 thing RTD always does well is casting! That goes for all his projects not just DW
That was indeed the plan...
Looking forward to both taking over the console of the Tardis Roll on Doctor 15 and Ruby Sunday!
Going to have an uphill struggle to fix Dr Who after Chibnall vandalized the show.
A normal healthy & attractive young female with all the correct body parts... what's the catch?
I'm saying nothing. I scoffed at Billie Piper back in the day and I was damn wrong.
I need this relationship to be platnoic and Im sorry but she gives me boring blonde vibes, but i have faith in RTD
This could be what draws me back in after a down period during the later Capaldi and Whittaker era. Specially since I'm not much older than Millie. I can only imagine seeing Nuti and Millie facing down against Davros and the Master. This could be amazing.
Eccelston and tenant revived this show from limbo and then it promptly went downhill🤮
Maybe she‘s some kind of AI like an Android?, the seventh one made after Ruby Monday, Ruby Tuesday, Ruby Wednesday, Ruby Thursday, Ruby Friday and Ruby Saturday?
I was born during the pertwee era, grew up on tom baker I think millie will do good, i have not seen millies work living in the us 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
This is the first time I've known absolutely nothing about both the Doctor and the companion's actors before looking them up on Google.
I hope Millie sticks with her Mancs accent, I like the idea of the Doc choosing her character as a companion because he used to be a northern girl 😂👍
And Christopher Eccleston was from somewhere around Manchester way.
Then again, since the reboot we've also had David Tennant from Scotland, Matt Smith from the east Midlands, Peter Capaldi from Scotland and Jodi Whittaker from Yorkshire, so the Doctor hasn't been a southerner since the reboot 😂
@@davebirch1976 David Tennant doesn't count as RTD made him do that weird English accent for half a decade. The only "true" Scottish Doctors have been Sylvester and Peter. The jury is still out on Ncuti. I dearly want 15 to have a soft Scottish lilt but I have also resigned myself to hearing yet an English accent coming out of Gatwa's mouth.
@@jackdubz4247 the only problem is Peter and Sylvester have always sounded Angry 😆 and let's not forget John Barrowman is also Scottish, I'm surprised the TARDIS doesn't have tartan wallpaper 😆
Watching Doctor who on itvx! Who would have thought that was possible a year ago?
Rather bizarrely, I found myself watching bits of a recent episode of Corrie where Millie's character had been abducted by some villains and whilst I hardly ever watch the soap, I was very impressed by Millie's acting which is far, far better than your average EastEnders/Corrie performance. Believe me when I say the this is inspired casting of a rising star who is already very well known.outside of Dr Who.
I am beyond excited for the future of Doctor Who! 😁 The new companion looks like a mix between Rose and Clara to me
More like a Peri Brown!
Exactly what my first impression was -- without even giving it any thought. My two most favourite companions, even though I really like them all. We don't want the same all the time, I like the different characters.
Err Ruby Tuesday? Someone seems to like 60's rock.
She looks like Jenna Coleman with Billie Piper's blonde hair.
I want this to be gooood! I haven’t been excited for this show in the last 5 years and hope this will be a fun.
She looks like a mix between Clara, Rose Tyler and Kylie Jenner in one.
Ruby Sunday also comes close to one of those Femme Fatale names from James Bond
Maisie Williams was 18 when she played Lady Me (Ashildr)
...well they couldn't have Ruby Tuesday hahaha
Great name Great actress looking forward to seeing her as the Doctors companion ( she was brilliant in Corrie ) well done RTD❤️❤️
I'm betting the first Disney episodes will have a lot of recap so the new viewers know what is going on.
I was admittedly a little spectacle about the new companion due to her age until I saw RTD's comment toward her potential, now I'm even more excited. Good luck girl!!!
I think you meant..... skeptical! 😁
LOL!
As she mentioned, it is also making me feel quite old to be officially 9 years older than the Doctor's companion😂😂
What on earth ix going on these days? Why are we getting reveals of the new doctor and or companions ahead of the show airing? It used to be a huge deal keeping these things secure. So people would tune in to find out. Now its just being announced? This is weird and disappointing it takes half of the fun out of the show
these things have always been announced...
No sometimes they got leaked but for the most part they used to be held close to the chest on closdd sets until the last minute, they got slack after russel finished
I have a feeling she will be more like Martha, the Doctor will be getting over Yaz and might not see Ruby the same way she sees him. Obviously a way to get around this would be for a LARGE time gap inbetween the 60th special and Ncutis first appearance, so they could fix a few issues without having to do it on camera like the Time War.
Who knows, but pretty sure Russell T Davies will get around it and choose that second route. Fresh start. By the time Ncuti episodes start we will have had Tennant's special episodes already in between. I expect RTD will want to get on with telling his stories, with as little baggage as possible... He's not going to waste time looking backwards at the previous Doctor's companion, created by a different showrunner.
I doubt there will be any further exploration of the yaz storyline, RTD likes to do his own thing with his own characters.
@@complicatedairflow7237 yeah, definitely. It'll be fresh start, no baggage. Each new showrunner has their own vision and they try not to be constrained by the previous show runner's choices (if possible)
@@Sikosm yeh but Yaz was just an example, there are many loose ends that RTD with have to find a way to close before the start of Ncuti's episodes to have more freedom. I dont think this will be a regular regeneration as we have seen before.
@@alfiecameron5442 wouldn't be surprised if chibnall's era was just forgotten and none of it brought up again 😂
Im only 22 and even I feel old seeing a companion younger then me on screen lol
Ruby Sunday - Amy Pond.
Idk feels good
loved her in corrie. there's a great youtube interview with her pre-who on youtube. conversation street (podcast on coronation street)
This is really weird. Not just the companion but everything in this new era. We get a “new” doctor for just a year who then regenerates into the next doctor in the same year’s Christmas special. Now we have the new companion being similar to the first companion of Davies’ era. It’s a bit weird innit
Travelling through time and space in a police box is weird. Anything else is normal in comparison.
Is it a homage to Ruby Tuesday?
I’m actually really enjoying the videos of them together, they have some fun banter and chemistry, looking forward to the new run :)
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!
“When you think about all of the actors that have come before, the majority of them were unknown before they starred in Doctor Who, and it was that role that broadened their career and turned them into the stars they are now. Think of Matt Smith, Karen Gillan. Think of, erm, oh no not him. How about… oh, no, not him either”
I was waiting for her to mention, y'know, Jenna Coleman, cuz she's doing pretty well for herself. Also, that lady from Blink, Carey something or other, isn't doing too poorly either...
Tennant was much less of a household name than Ecclestone when he was cast as the Doctor. So I think this would apply to him too.
I'm not a 'Corrie' guy, but told by a few fans I know (& the comments here!) she's a pretty great actress! - I hope the stories are of quality & give them a chance to showcase the acting talent RTD is bringing on board - of both her & Ncuti!
I for one would like to see her as strong companion without her falling into any past patterns of 'falling' for the Doctor, or becoming something like Bad Wolf, or the Impossible girl -
and let's be honest: she's a pretty girl - so no treating her in general, or in stories as simply 'Dr Who eye candy' - let's see a companion who goes through all the joy, wonder & fear that comes with travelling with the Doctor, & maybe keeping him in check.... whatever, as long as old pitfalls aren't repeated & both have a chance to shine as actors!
On a couple of personal notes:
it's out there now, so to ignore/gloss over it would be stupid- but let's hope 'the Timeless Child' is addressed & put to bed.
More importantly! - I really hope the excellent Sacha Dhawan gets to continue as 'The Master'!
So far, I'm extremely happy with the new Dr Who team. Showrunner, Doctor, Companion....Llooks great to me. This is going to be something.
The names a direct, and obvious play on The Rolling Stones' classic Ruby Tuesday ... I'm Guessing that Mr Davis is a fan ...
Hopefully the writing, scripts, directing and producing are a damn sight better than what we've had the last couple of years or so.
Honestly I'll probably check out a bit, but whether anything will bring me back to DW - a series I've watched/enjoyed, until recently, since the Pertwee years... I dunno, I've pretty much lost interest at this point after the last 3-5 years.
I’ve always felt the Doctor and companion should be on the younger side. A lot of physical energy and of course running. The show is for kids.
Ruby Sunday sounds so contrived and cheesy to me - which of course it is. A piece of ridiculousness designed to catch the eye (or ear)... It isn't brilliant, or interesting, but it is clever.. Because it makes you perk up your ears...It is a trope of RTD; carried over from his first run at Who...
She seems so nice and as for the name it's got the Bond girl name vibes, Russell T Davies is winking at us he know want he's doing.
The only disappointment I had was really wanting Ellie Littlechild and Seán Derrick as the Companions...
Best wishes for Millie Gibson though!!!!
thanks Ellie and Dan, for being so quick off the mark with this video! 😀
Thank you for the support!
"Ruby Sunday?" Ugh. Not getting a good feeling about RTD's second coming. I really hope I'm wrong....
8 had romance, 10 had more romance , 11 no romance, but he married River, 12 had the 24 yr honeymoon, 13 could have.... , I'd love to see 15 have companions more like Ian and Barbara , someone already mature
I was thinking for an older actress. It’s going to be like another Amy and 11. I guess the show will make many new who fans younger, than they actually are.
What are you talking about? This is the first thumbnail with Ncuti Gatwa’s picture and it’s not even about him, it’s about the new companion! What is that saying to the black and brown kids that watch this channel?
We are of course getting a black gay Doctor (RDT could do no less) but a young white blonde bimbo companion! So something for everyone?
Here's a controversial statement. I can't stand the 10th Doctor. Unlike Tennent fans, I didn't start watching Doctor Who with his Doctor
I’m really exited, I’m an American who loves the show, so with it coming to Disney + it will be infinitely more accessible so I’m exited for that, and what’s not to love about RTD’s return, I trust the stories will be great because of that, and while I don’t know either Millie Gibson or Ncuti Gatwa, I am very exited for what they’ll bring to the table. God willing this will be a return to what doctor who was.
Before 'The Madalorian' I'd be horrified of any association with Disney, but between that and 'Rogue One' hopefully Disney has learned to leave the creative's alone.
@@CaptApril123 I don't think the BBC will be too thrilled with Disney messing with their showrunners, so about that I'm not too worried. But I certainly would be if the show is ever acquired by Disney, I am praying that never happens.
Swear every video of yours I’ve watched involves you talking about something then going ‘I’ve never seen it, I’m not sure on that one’ get someone who does know then if you’re gonna bring stuff up 😂
The need the 18-45 demo!
Predict that the woke new Doctor and companion will bomb because, as usual, the BBC always does what they think the viewers should be watching rather than what the viewers actually want to see.
They must really be pushing for the Doctor to have romance now.........yeah she does look like a combo for Rose and Clara
