While you do have to be aware of possibilities, it is tragic that men are shut off from contact with younger people who are not in their immediate family. I have never had kids, and would have not only enjoyed being around other people's kids sometimes, but I believe that contact with a wide variety of real-world adults (not just the people who are paid run the government skoolz) can be very beneficial to the development of kids and teens. But I have always stayed away because of what I fear would be the suspicions of others. I know that I would not have been the remotest threat to any kid, but any good that could have come from contact with them has been prevented by the attitudes of society. It is sad.

My son is in scouting and loves it. Luckily today, kids are not allowed to go on trips and camping unless a parent is with them. There are new policies and regulations. I’ll be honest i worked with Boy Scouts of America my mom when I was starting warned me about these stories and said you need to have your eyes open and report anything we will go to court if it happens to you we have your back but be warned and I only worked with them for a year and I was done I didn’t see anything happen I made friends there but this is an important story for everyone.

i'm guessing any grouping of children is a risk. demonize an organization, but don't ignore the obvious: wherever kids are in groups and predators have access, some kids will be preyed upon. predators in the boy scouts were mainly not boy scout affiliated adults. i don't know who the predators were, older kids, low paid staff from external organizations, all possibilities.

my dad signed me up for boyscouts a long time ago and i always hated it, i never saw anyone that was ever not white and whenever i asked if they would make a badge for anti racism and they said "I dont think so" and when i asked why he just didnt respond. I have been reading articles about sexual abuse and i have a meeting in an hour and im actually terrified. All my new scout leaders look like creepy pedophiles and in my last meeting they have asked me only to come with them into a room where nobody else was near and i said no and they forced me to but i punched him and ran because it was obvious he way trying to get me to do sexual things.

I was in the scouts. Best experience I've ever had as a kid! Scout master was a hippie esce vegan who could throw Frisbee lie a champ. The other was a survivalist who liked was amazing at basket weaving. They taught us character, how to camp, learn all kinds of plant identification, knots, canoes, swim, built eco projects, shot guns at shooting ranges with learning gun safety. The list goes on and on. It's a shame this kind of thing happened. I guess just make sure your kid knows that they can talk about this kind of thing and your as their as a parent to protect them from this kind of thing. I hope the scouts gets it together as this is and should be a good thing for kids to get involved with.

they're talking 100k out of millions. so it would be more common not to be abused. 1 in 500 or fewer got abused over decades probably. and not necessarily by adult members of the boy scouts organization. some of the offenses are 'exposure to pornography'. most allegations are not against boy scout affiliated adults. may be from low income staffing at retreats, janitors, etc. in case you need some perspective, because your comment seems to indicate that you have no perspective.

Why would any "child" STAY in scouting after an incident? Could they not go to meetings or CAMP OUTINGS? I was abused at a camp out and ledft shortly after! I also had sexual incidentscat the scout masters home by his son, also a scout leader! And i lived next door to his house. It was my brother and i subjected and at the time we had no father-figure in our life....a man touching us was an immense shock! We kept quiet because of the "next door" housing and my grandparents were up in age and it would cause some retaliation i believe. I am already in the bankruptcy! Point is we didnt hang around to be further abused!!!!!!

Early on Education on the signs of grooming with various forms of tangible outlets for children seeking real help needs to be implemented within all foundations early on in schools and institutions throughout our nation as a mandatory bi-weekly safe keeping educational lesson being put into practice.
It's not as easy as you think. The kids were groomed, and threatened not to tell anyone. I have been abused and it's hard for a lot of people to understand why others don't tell someone. It's not something I can ever explain. It's just sad that this stuff happens.

I do not care who is making "sex abuse" claims. If the claims appear literally decades after the alleged event, they should almost never have any standing in a public forum. There might be rare exceptions. It's like calling the cops and saying your house got broken into in 1998 and you actually know who did it, so please go arrest that guy immediately, and also give me money.

my dad signed me up for boyscouts a long time ago and i always hated it, i never saw anyone that was ever not white and whenever i asked if they would make a badge for anti racism and they said "I dont think so" and when i asked why he just didnt respond. I have been reading articles about sexual abuse and i have a meeting in an hour and im actually terrified. All my new scout leaders look like creepy pedophiles and in my last meeting they have asked me only to come with them into a room where nobody else was near and i said no and they forced me to but i punched him and ran because it was obvious he way trying to get me to do sexual things.

I was in the scouts. Best experience I've ever had as a kid! Scout master was a hippie esce vegan who could throw Frisbee lie a champ. The other was a survivalist who liked was amazing at basket weaving. They taught us character, how to camp, learn all kinds of plant identification, knots, canoes, swim, built eco projects, shot guns at shooting ranges with learning gun safety. The list goes on and on. It's a shame this kind of thing happened. I guess just make sure your kid knows that they can talk about this kind of thing and your as their as a parent to protect them from this kind of thing. I hope the scouts gets it together as this is and should be a good thing for kids to get involved with.

they're talking 100k out of millions. so it would be more common not to be abused. 1 in 500 or fewer got abused over decades probably. and not necessarily by adult members of the boy scouts organization. some of the offenses are 'exposure to pornography'. most allegations are not against boy scout affiliated adults. may be from low income staffing at retreats, janitors, etc. in case you need some perspective, because your comment seems to indicate that you have no perspective.

@@mkim4091 from the hours i spent doing the research, it said a reasonable percent of the abuse was from people not directly associated with boy scouts, ie staffing agencies. could be the article i read was misinforming me, but it sounded legit. seems to me like anyone can be an abuser, it makes no sense that a higher percent of boy scout members would be a higher percent of abusers. why couldn't the janitor be an abuser? are janitors all good people you will give a certificate to as trustworthy around kids? i wish i hadn't wasted all that time researching it now, since i have to answer to you.

Why would any "child" STAY in scouting after an incident? Could they not go to meetings or CAMP OUTINGS? I was abused at a camp out and ledft shortly after! I also had sexual incidentscat the scout masters home by his son, also a scout leader! And i lived next door to his house. It was my brother and i subjected and at the time we had no father-figure in our life....a man touching us was an immense shock! We kept quiet because of the "next door" housing and my grandparents were up in age and it would cause some retaliation i believe. I am already in the bankruptcy! Point is we didnt hang around to be further abused!!!!!!

Why don't kids ever feel like they can tell there parents? If someone breathes on me wrong i would tell my mom, sad they feel like they can't tell anyone.

It's not as easy as you think. The kids were groomed, and threatened not to tell anyone. I have been abused and it's hard for a lot of people to understand why others don't tell someone. It's not something I can ever explain. It's just sad that this stuff happens.

I do not care who is making "sex abuse" claims. If the claims appear literally decades after the alleged event, they should almost never have any standing in a public forum. There might be rare exceptions. It's like calling the cops and saying your house got broken into in 1998 and you actually know who did it, so please go arrest that guy immediately, and also give me money.
