There’s more to it than just what was said on this video, the Boy Scouts have regulated so many activities that youth enjoy. This includes water gun fights, dodgeball, mechanical bulls, bubble ball, you name it. If there is even the slightest risk of injury, it’s banned. This is not how it was years ago, and the program is simply not as fun and interesting as it used to be for youth. It’s been moving in the wrong direction for years and haven’t learned from their mistakes.

Blame snowflake americans, they are just too litigious. It leaves organization to have a proactive approach on handling "dangerous" activities lest they become liable and get sued. Also, in a USA where kids cant go to the bus stop unaccompanied, it's no wonder the BSA have a hard time.

Regarding the video, there seem to be several misunderstandings. First, BSA has every intention of continuing the scouting program uninterrupted. Second, BSA didn't let girls join solely because they needed members. Girls have been requesting to join BSA for decades. Lastly, the Youth Protection guidelines are strictly enforced at Troop, Council, and National levels. I've experienced this personally.

My wife and I were den leaders. But, we pulled back after two years. The reason was due to other parents:
      - Kids entering pinewood derby cars that were clearly bought on Ebay. Heck, one kid literally told me that his dad hired a carpenter to make it for him. The kicker is that these cars were allowed to compete. Our kid made it on his own.
      - Parents signing off on activities that the kid clearly didn't complete. Sure, your kid did a triathalon on the same day they visited city hall, watched a court proceeding at the county courthouse, got a tour of the local fire station, and made a stop-motion movie with legos.
You hear a lot about "little league" parents. But, you never hear about "Cub Scout/Boy Scout parents".

Let me state up front; I am not suggesting that there were incidents of abuse that were not dealt with well, or at all. But BSA has responded far better than most others, even as the ambulance chasers troll for victims from whom they can steal settlement money at usurious levels. Victims should be compensated and counselled, and BSA has been doing that already.
All the name callers and rock throwers please tell us how you would keep sick people from preying on children. There are no foolproof ways, and psychologists will tell you that there is no way to absolutely identify the predators. Most people posting on this have no actual understanding of what is going on, nor know much about the BSA other than narrow stereotypes that are inaccurate or completely wrong.
Yes there was abuse that, was not handled by today's standards, decades ago. But compared to most other youth serving groups, the BSA tried to find a way to block them in that era, and have constantly improved their barriers with updated information and resources. The so called press, yellow that is, just wants to beat on the BSA for having the audacity to try and teach basic civic pride and respect. The legal system needs a serious overhaul with its attitude that you can change history and past cultural errors by dragging them into today and applying today's standards. They also have a predator lawyers that only want to find a so called deep pocket to steal from; who cares what is being destroyed and how the truth is that no amount of money can right the mistakes and poor judgement from before. Also, they never publish the actual truth and facts; BSA is the template for youth protection today, something conveniently ignored in the rush to paint them as villains. They tried to keep predators away decades ago, but society was different and did not process things the same, and families often chose to keep abuse, especially sexual, quiet. The fact that files exist is proof that the BSA tried to do something, and now those files are being used against them. What purpose is being served by trying to destroy a group that overall teaches youth to be good citizens and to be unselfish? What is the matter with people that they seem to get happiness in the soiling of a positive element of society?
The media needs to tell the whole story, not just the worst parts. But, positive press they think will not sell. this is reflective of our society as a whole. Reality TV and its tendrils are dragging us all into the mud. For some reason, too much of the populace seems unable to celebrate the positive, rather than ogle and often actually spotlight the worst elements of society, even making excuses for so called leaders at the highest levels, and putting crudeness on a pedestal. And they do this even as they gleefully drag over all positive elements into the dirt.

Isabel Zellmann-Rohrer most of us involved have to, it’s a program that has allowed me to build amazing friendships and lifelong skills. Scouting has done nothing but help me over the last decade and I love the program. The organization has taken major steps protecting the youth involved (even 11 year olds know that YPT means youth protection training) no adult is even allowed one on one with a kid. There were some stretches where the only friends I had were in scouting, and without this constant in my life, I don’t know where I would be today. So yes, most of us defend the program and organization vigorously, because the program has been a defining part of our lives and we will not allow it to just be referred to as some child sex ring from the 60’s. As a former Boy Scout, now moving on as a 20 year old in college, this really pains me to see that the BSA had to go and the reasoning on why it changed to just the Scouts. The Boy Scouts were there for a reason and that was to create boys that would become stronger, braver and more intelligent to know a variety of things that they would possibly do in their future lives. Even have benefits of the skills when they would have a wife and kid(s). From where it has gone, it is definitely not the same as before and I hate seeing it transition into this way.

It hurts my heart to see it come to this. I've been watching my old troop while at college. Trying to help out as much as I can. There were also other kids who clearly were in the troop because their parents wanted somebody else to babysit their son for free. Looking back now, I appreciate all of the things I learned and got to do, but I would rather just do those things with just my family and maybe some close friends. Like in all programs of different things outside Boy Scouts, there are always bad apples but should not over shadow the good this program does. Plus you have to take into consideration that there are other activities such a as: competitive sports, STEM, arts, music, etc that compete, which also impact membership. Both of my boys were Eagle Scouts and I was directly involved as were many other fathers and sons from our church. It was an excellent program. We were criminal background checked and under went child safety training each year. We practiced two deep leadership trying to keep two adults with the boys at all times. Further, we tried never to be fully alone with any boy at any time or to be in a place that was expected to be private and we went to areas where people could walk through at any time. The mistake BSA made was after settling all the law suits and cleaning house was to go WOKE and allow girls and the LBGTQ people into the program. This is a leadership building program for young men of good moral character. I am sure this is why the Mormons left since they practice Christian values. All religions are welcome but a faith in God is required in the scout oath. If the scouts hold to their original values and stay with the churches then they will rebuild. We need a program like this as so many kids now are without fathers, not active in anything that is not a video game, and not ready to enter the military. Lord Powell in England saw all of this and started the Scouts to correct it. We can only hope the Scouts come back to develop leadership skills in young people.

But anyway, I did go back a few times, as my family was urging me to, and I was genuinely curious about what was going on. After our Scout mastet left there were next to no Scouts there anymore. Everyone in our troop just seemed to go their seperate ways. And now with this going on, I don't think my troop will be getting back together anytime soon. Today's are full of School like activities, write a paper, research a scientist. In trying to appeal to everyone over the last 40 years they became not much good to anyone.

It is a great organization for developing leadership skills and life skills. I highly recommend.

As an eagle scout, it's really unfortunate to see the BSA falling apart due to sexual assaults that happened in the 60s and 70s. My experience with the BSA certainly did not include sexual assault and the BSA implements many rules to prevent things like that from happening. It is forbidden (and has been for a long time) for an adult leader to be alone with a scout. There must be 2 adults present at all times if scouts are around. It really is unfortunate. Also, I don't think trans boys or girls should be allowed in the BSA, but it's probably not a bad thing to sever ties with the Mormon church. They did not contribute much to the secular scouting arena besides money

I made Eagle Scout in 1987. Scouting was a fundamental part of my life in from junior high school through the end of my Senior year in high school. To be blunt, I doubt I would have graduated from high school without Scouting...my home life was horrible. When I was in Scouting, it was immediate post Vietnam war and anything that resembled the military in even the mildest way was looked down on. I knew some bad folks in Scouting, but also a lot of very cleancut, all American, wonderful people. A lot of it depended on the Troop you were in...some were better than others...you had to shop around and find the Troop that suited you. I am not involved in Scouting anymore, but my impression is certain elements of American society want to water Scouting down like crazy and would not complain if Scouting went away. I know an individual firsthand who is like that. I worked at Philmont Scout Ranch one summer in 1986 and worked with a lot of Mormons out of Utah at Philmont. Because of that experience I learned the Mormon Church was a huge supporter of the BSA... including financially. When I read the Mormon Church had pulled out of the BSA during the Obama years, I knew Scouting was going to be facing some tough times.

I was an adult volunteer leader in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from 1981-2018. I quit in 2018 after girls were admitted.
There were two reasons for that:
1: Girls and boys have different needs, interests and abilities. Whenever you mic girls and boys together, you have to decide whether girls or boys will be favored in designing your program. As a practical matter, it is always girls whose needs, interests and abilities are favored, and the mothers of female Cub Scouts will insure that happens.
The reason I got involved in Scouting as an adult was to present a high quality program for boys. In my view, once girls were admitted that was no longer going to be possible.
    2. Men are as scarce as hen's teeth in Girls Scouts, because they are DRIVEN out by women. The result is often a poor quality program since women really lack the skills, ability and experience to manage an outdoor program effectively.
Unhappy mothers of girls in Scouting program will inevitably cast aspersions upon men they don't like as leaders. I left because I did not want to wait around for my reputation to be besmirched by mothers.
    3. Scouting ---- is now an ideologically "woke" organization bent upon indoctrinating children in the values of wokeness and left wing social theories. It's a 180 degree change from the traditional values of Scouting.
The most obnoxious thing is a new Merit Badge required to obtain the Eagle ran. This amounts to being a "DEI Merit Badge" in which children must study and subscribe to the values of Wokeness.
In short, rather than being preserved, "Scouting America" really needs to be destroyed.
And I say that as someone who was a volunteer leader for 37 years.
    Very sad.

I went through the whole scout program in Canada from Cubs to Rovers. Breaks my heart to see that the Scouts are now a mere shadow of what they once were. I don’t keep in touch with people I went to high school with, however I do correspond on a regular basis with some that I was with in Scouts. We learned a lot of great life skills that were never covered in a classroom. Too bad subsequent generations will not get that same education from decent adults.

The corniness is people decided to make jokes about them and then people started losing respect for the program. It’s a shame because the program has been essential to millions of lives and helping people live good and morally just lives. But of course being a decent human being isn’t fun so let’s make fun of those who want to be good people.

As someone who actually is getting his board of review for the Eagle Scout Award today, all I have to say is with the growth of technology and the internet, now in the portable factor of smartphones, the Boy Scouts of America will never be like it was before this day and age. There will only be a small, small handful of kids who are willing to take the journey seriously and will actually learn about nature and how to become fully independent in the end besides being with other kids in the troop for years (if they even stay that long). The only appealing things now are activities like kayaking and zip-lining, but to get some kid who doesn’t prefer their phone initially to try and show them another way of fun, learning, and determination, will be possible, but will forever constrain them. I wish the best for the organization, as it can and is something great, but will be handicapped from here on out.

My son wanted to be an Eagle Scout at an early age. But, he quit after a couple of years.

I earned my Eagle Scout award in 1965 along with a Bronze, Gold and Silver Palms. In addition I was acknowledged as a "Distinguished Eagle Scout", a recognition afforded to very few Eagle Scouts.
After the Boy Scouts changes their position on the very moral foundation of Scouting I had enough and resigned and returned all my awards to their headquarters. I never received a call or letter in return. I actively oppose the organization and will not allow my grandsons (four) to become scouts!
It is a shame because I learned so many life skills that contributed to my success in life. I'm just not sure what they are teaching now!
My hope is that another organization will take up the banner the Boy Scouts tossed aside. I stand ready to support and work for such an organization.

What's not said here is Scouting on a local level is alive and well, although lean. The lawsuits do not affect local councils unless the suit names them specifically. The main way the local groups and charter organizations are affected is the greatly increased national dues and expenses. The local troops and councils by in large are coping with the membership changes and in some cases thriving. There are millions of leaders and volunteers who still have the welfare of our nation's youth in their heart and are teaching character and life skills. Don't count us out yet.
