The man evaded the fare twice. He jumped over the turnstiles right in front of the officer. He was clearly looking for a confrontation on purpose. That is obvious. This is more than just a $2.90 fare. The man wanted and was seeking, for whatever reason, a confrontation with police. And his act of foolishness led to two innocent people getting hurt.
Problem is it shouldn't have needed multiple officers nor bystanders been shot. Tax payers pay big $$$ to highly train these officers to take people like these in to custody without firing a shot. The problem is the culture in police departments where they teach officers hat it's better to shoot innocent people than to risk there lives protecting the innocent.

The use of the weapon after the fact seems to be reckless but you say taking him into custody “without firing a shot” - how exactly if they try the taser before and he’s clearly being charged by a man with a deadly weapon

Used to be clerks yelled Pay Your Fare, now they say nothing. Especially if you're black. On the bus to Harlem this black guy (another passenger) was yelling this every time someone got in from the back until another Black man did it. Then he said nothing.

Uh, the guy was walking around with a knife in his hand and wouldn't put it down. This isn't the same as a cop choking someone to death for selling cigarettes or using counterfeit currency.
