    I am one of the 85k, and everyday, I check my email for updates to the end. I relive what the scout leader did to me in the summer camp chapel in Osceola, MO. The more this stays open, the more we relive our abuse. Daily. The moments of our lives are being stolen everyday we think of this. I would run away if I could. Gotta be the example dad and husband and live like it never happened. I sent a 3 page letter to the judge and pictures of me in uniform, post abuse (8th grade) as encouraged by AVA. The BSA has exceeded $100 million in negotiations. Could have been ours but no. Talk about denial of the BSA. People are sad, depressed and dying. We just want it over!!

    When I learned that the boy scouts was a religious institution, my first question was "how many children have been sexually assaulted in this organization?" Funny how so many people protect religious institutions and claim they are the most moral, when they do things like this.

I've been through alot in my life and a lot of therapy, but I think this bothered me so much I put it way back in the archives. If you drink coffee from fast food restaurants or convenience stores that has a lid on it, you will notice the statement that it may be hot which is cautionary in nature. There is one person to blame for that warning because decades ago, a woman purchased a hot cup of coffee from a McDonald's and then proceeded to put it between her legs to the point that it then spilled and burnt her legs. To me a normal person would understand that this was her fault but instead she sued McDonald's successfully for over 1 million dollars and because of that, that is why that caution is now on hot beverage containers. I was in the Scouts, but only in a kind of school/neighborhood fashion. We had meetings/activities at my local elementary school and at various homes of "Den Mothers".
    I only went on one camping trip, but there was a huge tent everyone shared and fathers were invited.
    I suppose I was lucky.
    I never liked the Scouts and dropped out after 6th grade as soon as my parents let me (my mom only put my sister and I in the Scouts to appease her fundamentalist christian mother). I've always been nonreligious, so the overt christianity was offensive to me even as a small child (I refused to parrot back the Scout oath after a certain age: "On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey..." yea. stop right there. no. obey? duty to "god"? I knew that was unAmerican and morally/politically dangerous even when I was 7, which was also the at the time I repeatedly got into trouble for refusing to parrot back the unAmerican Pledge of Allegiance that had similar nationalistic/theocratic language).
    Also, the overt nationalism was offensive as well: the Scouts now consistently remind me of almost like a Hitler Youth movement, only with a kind of America First White Christian Ethno-Nationalism. This was in the 80's and in the affluent suburbs of a large midwest US city, not some backwater. I can't imagine the brainwashing and sexual abuse that went on in more rural and smaller Scout organizations with less intelligent/educated parents who would be less suspicious and more aligned with the Scouts extremist White Supremacist Christian Nationalism.
    In sum: the Scouts, like any other cult-like far-right group (such as christianity) is unAmerican, immoral and dangerous. Keep your kids far away from it if you want them to mentally healthy and physically unabused.

    • @justeliashere
      @justeliashere 3 роки тому +3

      Why is the Pledge of Allegiance "unAmerican"?
      I understand you may have had a bad experience but I just wanted to throw this out there that the Boy Scouts of America was organized in 1910 way before Hitler used the Boy Scouts as a model for his Hitler Youth. Countries all over the world have scouting as it teaches fundamental leadership skills and how to be a good citizen. Better yet, how to care for others and be "open-minded". If we didn't have scouting I bet we would have no one to stand up for others or try to save someone's life while everybody else just watches and records what's happening on their smartphones these days.
      Maybe you may not like the nationalistic vibe that scouting offers but to me I found it very patriotic to serve others and do my duty to God. It's a way to serve my community. As an Asian-American who has been in the Boy Scouts for 10 years, I haven't seen a "white supremacist Christain Nationalism" or sexual abuse. I know a lot of my friends in my troop that is chartered by our local Veterans VFW are atheist or Muslim.
      Many of our nation's leaders have been Boy Scouts like John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr, Gerald Ford, Neil Armstrong, and Bill Clinton. Even Steven Spielberg and the CEO of Walmart: Sam Walton. We become politicians, world leaders, Navy seals, and serve our nation. You may argue this was out of luck but many believe achieving the rank of Eagle is one of the proudest achievements one can have as a youth. The program was built to form boys into young men with various skills including leadership.
      I would not discourage parents from letting their sons join the Boy Scouts. The Boy Scouts is a way to form young men, especially for those in divorced families or without father figures. I understand the circumstances as seen in the news can be bad which I am very disappointed in as much as you are, especially with letting girls in the "BOY" Scouts and all these sexual abuse cases. But times are changing. Experiences are different for everyone past and present. As said in the video, BSA has stressed criminal background checks since the early 2000s.
      Thanks for reading this far.

      @coke8077 2 роки тому +1

      The loss of American nationalism and culture is what is destroying this country today. Theres barely any binding factor between people and groups anymore and it's sad. I'm a nonreligious person who is a boy scout and many of my troop members are as well, but I've never been 'offended' because the Scout Oath says things about God. Do you wonder why I'm not offended? Because I don't care and I know that the Scout Oath and Law still have a good message behind them that everyone should follow.
      As for your comments claiming the Boy Scouts is a white supremisist cult, I have personally never experienced anything of the sort in the organization and quite frankly it offends me that you would make such an outrageous statement. There are plenty of non-white people in boy scouts especially here down in the south east. Sure, you'll find a couple people who may have some seemingly racist and outdated ideas but that is with any organization. Also regarding so called abuse, the BSA has implanted many percossions against any sorts of abuse.
      I myself am not a far right conservative person and frankly a couple people in my troop are on the more democratic side, but yet myself and those people I mentioned still love Scouting for what it is. Theres nothing wrong with being proud to be American, I'm not sure where many people get the idea that any kind of nationalism is wrong. I am just someone who loves my country, loves the outdoors, loves my friends, and wants to make sure I in some way improve the country by being a great citizen.

    I don't know the details of the case... but how exactly are they supposed to prove that BSA as an organization was responsible?
    Overall, the boy scouts are a wonderful organization and the experience of being a boy scout is important part of the lives of millions of men all over the world.
    It's unfortunate that a relatively small number of disturbed individuals (the leaders who actually committed the offences) can sully the reputation of an important beneficial organization. The people who committed the crimes should obviously be punished to the full extent of the law, but I'm not sure that the entire organization deserves to be bankrupted because of it.

      Because they covered it up and shuffled around abusers just like the Catholic church. Had they called the cops, many boys would not have been molested later. So yea absolutely they are responsible they are accomplices to many of these claims, if not all because of the many

      @Sky Dog I don't have a son. I'm just empathetic and sympathetic to the things that happened to whoever's child.

    I feel for these men and I know victims. But Scouts BSA now has about every policy in place that you can possibly put in an organization like this. The rules and policies are strict. There's not much else that can be done beyond dissolving the organization. But if that were to happen, you'd just have smaller organizations take its place that would be far less safe for not having the policies the BSA have spent the last 20+ years implementing.
