  • The first (and probably only) in an envisioned series of operator training videos from Williams/Bally in 1990. This one covers the unboxing and set up of a pinball machine (yes - an unboxing video before there were unboxing videos!), but includes at the beginning the best video I know of from inside the Williams/Bally/Midway and Lenc-Smith plants during their heyday.
I feel bad for Renate, who Tom keeps calling "Renee" but obviously she was a paid actress, not a random person from "the audience" so it's OK. At least Linda got her name right at the end.

I love how Renate has a mic and she was "from the audience"

Tom Cahill came to Chile in the mid 90's. I had the honor of attending a technical demonstration witch was sponsored by Geiger, a local pinball distributor, at the Sheraton Hotel of Santiago. The speech he made was very similar to this video (Flinstones and USA World Cup was used to ilustrate us). At the end of the session, he nicely talks with some of the attendees and I win a couple of WMS manuals autographed by him. Quite an adventure for me.

Al final de la sesión, el platicó amablemente con algunos de los asistentes y yo logre un par de manuales de WMS autografiados por él. Toda una aventura para mí.

Thanks for sharing. Again a nice 'historic' gem worth to save for the future.

Love seeing these old operator videos. Only time you'll see an unboxing of a Williams classic

I like how the coffin carrier at Williams is just as old and creaky as the ones in all our basements :-)

Such a shame that that’s all gone now. Those entire machines from every bit and bolt was made in the USA.

It's like vintage April O'Neal is doing a story on Williams.

Was there ever a Lesson 2?
And this is a gem of a video not very often you see a new in box Williams Pinball Machine getting un-boxed.

    Look at those assembly lines.
These days one man has to be an expert in it all to keep them alive.

To be fair, this wasn't directed at households, and very few households had pins at the time. Not like today!

Jesus H Christ! I know this was 1990, but really… was this the best they could do? I mean Indiana Jones was released 10 YEARS before this shite. Pinball execs and CEOs and techs never have had any idea about media production or marketing and should never ever be let anywhere near projects like this. Everything about it… everything, from the lighting, to the framing, to the script, to the idea, to the cast, to the camera framing is absolutely shocking. Even for a bunch of bosos from 1990. Jesus. The frightening thing is if anyone’s seen that video Jersey Jack just put out of Jack arriving at work with Steve Ritchie, nothing much has changed! That video could have been shot in 1990…. Right after this one lmfao.
