- How the Virus was created and the zombie outbreak have started explained, scenes and gameplay from Dead Island 2 game 2023 captured on PS5 and put together in a synthetic and transformative manner with added narrative to explain the origin of the virus.
All raw footage were recorded by me and then put together piece by piece in a transformative manner to create this video.

i like this twist ..its like my grandpa once said "when man was learning Fire ..mother nature was learning genetics" and this twist is a great one IMO the fact Nature has a Kill clock for everyone incase we become to out of control and when we try to deactivate the clock we instead activate it and thus we get DI2
The infection was intentionally unravel, at the begging in because they wanted to design a bio weapon, at the end to find a cure.

Did the game developers take inspiration from "The Thing" cause the doctors infection transformation looks almost like The Thing with lots of teeth and I love it.
It's also similar to William Birkin in Resident Evil 2.
The zombie he turns into is a mutator, they're the absolute most powerful zombies in the entirety of Dead Island 2
Strange creative choice but guess gives developers freedom to not be limited. Gameplay was brilliant and I really liked the characters look forward to seeing how dambuster move the game forward
So why exactly did the doctor release the virus to find Numen, he could have just asked Konradt for her blood, though I understand she could be unwilling but still a bit extreme ? Also why did he infect himself for no reason or was he bitten ?
I feel like these will be explained when we meet tisha in the DLCs
Could also be the good Dr. didn't know she was a Numen. I mean, you can't exactly tell since she looks completely normal on the outside unlike the other 2 Numen she has beside her the entire game. Even if they knew each other I really, really doubt she would have told him she was one given his....lab and dissecting tendencies.
Ruben is a numen too like the others, he was once believed that they would be the next step in the human evolution. During his time finding more Numen, Ruben created his daughter Tisha using his Numen blood but the thought of her being harvested to either create stronger Numen or to be used a cure making machine got him scared and guilty so he hid the truth. Ruben spreads the virus under Kondrats orders to create more Numen at a faster rate, after these events he had second thoughts and left the group.

No, you got that wrong, if they did that it would take for ever and you will most likely kill a lot more of innocent people. They did it this way appealing to the statistics of 1/1.000.000
so they can gather more information in less time.
Because to find a numen it got to turn in a zombie, then recover lucidity, thats the only way.
So they had an already existing explanation for the disease (Pathogen HK), a mutated prion like Kuru that was established in Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide. They then retconned that despite confirming that both of those games are canon and happened 17 years in the past and this new autophage creates some of the old zombies variants from Banoi. Also, why does Sam B look 10 years younger than he did almost two decades ago? Pretty disappointing to be honest.

The way I rationalise it is in this new continuity, the Kuru didn't actually cause the outbreak, just created an environment where the Autophage could do its thing, like how HIV opens the door for AIDS
Pathogen HK still exists, they modified it to try and nullify the genetic clock the Doc mentioned. But, well, that didn't end well and an outbreak occurred back in 2010. Without any more volunteers, they used the HK1, the modified HK Pathogen, and unleashed in on LA. The Autophage is the part of human biology that lets the Pathogen do its work in creating general undead and creating the special variants.
I agree wholeheartedly. It's like the sequel took so long to come out that they forgot the story.
I'm puzzled why they couldn't get Phil Lamar to do Sam B's voice. He's the only returning character from the first game and they couldn't even get his original VA?
@@Destroyerofnations That still doesn't excuse the idea that our DNA has a "bomb" in it to cause our extinction is bizarre enough, but the idea that this genetic self destruct would manifest as zombification and mutation instead of people just dropping dead is even more insane. How in the world did this occur naturally? The doctor seemed to be saying that it was always there. "We weren't built to last." And if he learned this 27 years ago, why didn't he say anything to anyone? Just acting on his conclusion without getting others looking over his findings is pretty poor science work.

The autophage is genetic code in the humans that allows the pathogen to create undead. Like a 2 part system I guess? The virus or whatever activates the genes of the Autophage. So it's like the virus is a key, and the autophage is the lock that opens?
Just very similar as Dying Light 2 bc the main character in this game is the semi-zombie

By guess is in DLCs you are going to have to choose wether to embrace being a Numen or reject it and kill the main 3 Numen you found in the game.

The infection seen in Dead Island 2 is a mutated variant from the one in Banoi, so while the Slayers are fine those that were immune from the first two games would be more in trouble
It's explained, they aren't so immune where they will never turn into zombies, their "immune" is just delaying their brain function from going haywire, these immune characters are called numen in the game, they will eventually turn into brainless zombies but after a very long time, Sam was close to turning at the end until he gets the cure.
@@sovietpotato8031The autophage is likely an ERV(Endogenous Retro Virus) lingering in human dna that gets triggered by certain pathogens, this killswitch can be triggered more than once, just because you survived the first time doesn't mean you'll survive it the second time.

Yes but also no. Numens are basically the final stage to the mutations that not many of the infected can achieve. We can see that through the 3 people who follow you around constantly in the game and talk to you telepathically. Even when it's visibly they have completely lost their humanity they are still very much alive and conscious as people.
@@robertsteiner4696 OHHH this is why in the beginning of dead island 2 we turned into a zombie for one night. That’s the stage before becoming a numen then? So in order to become a numen, you have to be bitten, then become a zombie for a short while, and back to human as a numen. Sam B did not go into a zombie yet, so he’s not yet a numen. He’s just delayed. Am I understanding it right?

No the other characters are fine Sam B confirmed it in some of his dialog they all survived on the boat Sam not on speaking terms with the gun specialist (I don't remember how to spell her name) after what happened on the boat in riptide Sam still doesn't explain what happened on the boat but she doesn't want to speak to Sam any more because of it, we don't know what mai is doing but she made it and Logan and Sam still talk and this is a new manufactured strain of pathogen HK which is way Sam got infected the other are not around Hollywood only Sam B for Emma so the rest are fine

What happened with the original survivors from Riptide??
According to some files in the game, they are alive as well, but in different places.

Sam is in game, Logan is confirmed alive from when the Dead Island twitter was "hijacked" by Sam B. The others we don't know about

Logan is confirmed alive in the game itself as well as Sam obviously. Purna is as well as the Xian told directly from the mouth of Sam. The only one that is up for debate is Arthur Morgan because there isn't anything in game about him being alive or dead since he was an Aussie in the military.

...this is the dumbest idea. Humanity just has an expiration date in our DNA? And the method is turning into zombies and mutants? That's moronic. Especially since it contradicts the first game where it was supposed to be a mutated form of a virus that already exists.
You could just argue that the virus from dead island 1 forces the DNA bomb to go off before it’s timer hits 0. You can even argue that Sam B show cases this. He has no super powers like we do, can’t talk to us with his mind like we can to the others, and he’s not immune, just highly tolerable. There are ways to make this fit in the lore very easily
A virus that doesn't make sense is the one from the first game, prions can't infect or mutate DNA like in Dead Island, it's literally one of the most meaningless viruses in this type of story, at least here they corrected it more or less for something that can infect.
@@ragnaccel3006 It doesn't matter. They can't just pretend the original explanation didn't exist. They can say it was wrong, but they would need to explain how the mistaken conclusion happened.
@@Bluesit32 It matters if you want to give the virus in your story a more or less realistic reason, if you are going to try to explain how your virus works in a realistic way, do it well, unless the infection is Lovecratitian like in Halo or Dead Space, that's something else. .
And yes, they can ignore the Kuro because from how they explain this Autophague virus is something else and older than the Kuro, you don't need to explain the old virus if it is new, just see that even Sam B is not immune why not is the same.

I miss the days when you were just trying to survive the zombies, always gets ruined when they think of a crazy a*% storyline that makes many sequels possible. Waited all these years for this?
you didn't get it, they are all infected, its prion sickness, is on them buried until something turn it on.
The Reed's explain was to simplify, is aded to their code as human beings.
Banoi and Palanai were places they tried discovered the pathogen and they took advantage of the (they called it kuro/ hk) Cannibalism of the tribes to design a bio weapon, didn't work out well because they could not control the sickness (because it wasnt just a virus)
Hard to explain, but even Numen are "zombies" (in order to become a numen there is a genetic filter, and then there is a lottery when you get byte, turn on, and then recover your lucidity).
If you still dont get it, i will put another example, Sam, he was turning in, because of two things, first one: LA Variant was a different design that could turn you in faster than Banoid's variant. Second he never experienced the rage, but it was because his body was trying to process the virus and even after he never really lost his lucidity so he never turn in because his body was resisting against it.
Just try to understand the interesting that is this Lore now, it makes sense even with Dead island 1 and Riptide.

I suggest you to watch the 2014 -15 build of this game if you think this one is and looks cartoony.
I agree this new one has a more funny theme and less serious than Riptide and D1 but,those game were never like how they were showed in the first trailers.

Dude, the way all the character is modelled and how they acting is giving me headache. Especially that floor shoot scene, you know when in first person view, then your character lying on the ground, then another one hitting you, caress, or talking just right above you, or sexually sitting like in atomic heart (usually female), is really exhausting when all games does the same thing. I know it's sexual innuendo or fan service for degenerates, but pls stop copying each other, jesus christ. It won't do us good if the person that on top of you is a bulking psycho dude
