Bump up the productivity apps. Add some compatibility of certain full desktop applications

    • @andyH_England

That has little to do with Apple, as third-party apps need to be authorised by the developers to be used on iPads, and many are not interested because the market is too small.
The same applies to the compatibility of apps; MS Word and Excel are examples where MS does not allow full apps; again, Apple cannot force them.

@@andyH_England I agree. I’m simply saying for the IPad Pro to be pro, it needs apps that can give the same tools and features that Mac OS applications can provide. Unfortunately that would affect their laptop sales.

Using the iPad Pro as a touchscreen primarily over a keyboard needs to be the focus any time Apple adds features and improves the iPad in software and hardware. It’s the best experience to touch your documents, write and draw as a canvas, pull up a software keyboard, play guitar or piano on GarageBand all with touch and not keyboard and trackpad. I love this experience and the apps need to adapt to that style more so. Spreadsheets and other tasks can adapt. I don’t need a number pad because the screen can turn into a number pad or anything I need it to be.

My problem as an iPad Pro user is the device is marketed as a 2 in 1. I’m not saying that’s what it is, but that’s how Apple markets it. It’s basically marketed as a laptop replacement/ high end tablet/ drawing tablet replacement. While it does all of these things decently. Most developers can’t use it. Whether it’s coding or game dev, etc. so I think it’s time for Apple to take the iPad out of the grey. Either make it a true 2 in 1 with macOS apps being usable or rebrand it to be what it is, a high end tablet with high end accessories

I hear what you are saying but I believe Apple is still treating iPad as Main device for creatives and Companion device for everyone else. I don’t believe iPad should have MacOS. I believe they should enhance Dex to make it more desktop like but also allow 3rd Party to make IPad more dev friendly. What if they allowed VSCode to be a stand alone app or bring Xcode to IPad and more things like that.

iPadOS runs locked down, so having an open file manager like macOS is impossible. It was designed from the ground up to be that way, which is why there are no third-party file managers like MacOS. I suppose Apple could revamp the OS, but that complicates and bearing in mid iPad Pros only make up 20% of the market, there is no real incentive.

The iPad needs better webcam drivers, opening up SharePlay for video conferencing. Also, removing the 4 app window limit on one screen up to 8 apps per screen at least.

The amount of people who would need 8 apps per screen is so small, it feels like a needless upgrade. Stage manager basically solves that problem anyway, plus stage manager has more benefits than just having 8 apps open on 1 screen. I do believe that stage manager still needs tweaking, however, they should focus on that rather than just allowing 8 apps open on same screen.
I am interested to hear why 8 apps open on 1 screen would make that much of a benefit compared to what stage manager offers?

People have often complained about the iPad being nothing more than a large iPhone, I don't think many would be happy with it being a MacBook without a keyboard. I’m gonna take a guess, I am assuming it’s got less growth than all the other areas. If so, it’s because of the operating system and the lack of True apps, stopping people like me from investing again in this platform. If you don’t use a pen, then there is no justification for buying a pro because it’s considerably inferior to a MacBook.

I strongly disagree with the iPadOS. For me, that's what cripples the device. Any screen bigger than 13" is quite capable of running macOS UX/UI comfortably with a pointing device such as a pencil. It is the very sole reason I use a MacBook Pro with a tablet/pen because the software is limiting... So my iPad just ends up being an overpowered sketchbook. Freedom with dual boot would be the answer. Then all those still wanting a pre school device can still do so.

The issue with specialising in the way that iPad does is that unless you need it for pencil use it’s just a glorified consumption device. I have the pre-M1 iPad Pro and until they improve the operating system and file management I won’t be buying another. This may not sound like a big deal, but I am a typical purchaser, who constantly upgrades because I’m fortunate that I can afford to so. That I still have tthis iPad should tell Apple they’re missing a trick. Pro iPad should have better operating systems and more Mac style and the non-pros stay as they are would be my suggestion.

  • @ront335

Yes, I'm one of the people who said that I wish they would put Mac OS on the iPad, but I seriously believe they never will. It all goes back to when Steve Jobs introduced the first iPad in 2010 and said you use a truck (aka Macs) for heavy lifting and an iPad for lighter work. They clearly considered the iPad then to be a light working machine. But Apple has said in recent years that Safari for iPad would be a desktop quality browser and that desktop quality apps would also come to the iPad. Neither really has. And Stage Manager on the iPad has been really disappointing. It ends up controlling me more than me controlling it. At the very least, make Safari more comparable in power to the desktop version of Safari. Things like Google Docs and Sheets barely work on Safari for iPad. Another thing promised was bringing iPad apps to the Mac. While some are available, most are not. I would love to play some of my iPad games on my laptop and desktop Macs.

I love the iPad Pro for what it is. When I bought it, I had my eyes open; I didn't buy it, hoping it would someday do this or that. People need to know what an iPad does, and if they do not like it, buy a Mac or Windows. I am sure Apple has a roadmap for added features; we may see some in iPadOS 18. But it is relatively young compared to Windows, so expecting it to be that capable is an overreach.
Also, it depends on devs, and they are reluctant to make iPadOS pro apps as the market is so tiny.
Apple has stated that the iPad will never run on MacOS, and people should accept that. It is the same reason Android tablets won't run Windows; like MacOS, it is a subpar touch OS.
Enjoy it for what it is, and if you want both experiences, then do what I do and buy both an MB Pro and an iPad Pro!

Programms that run already on the same chip as my Mac Book Air. I don't understand why this is not made possible. I just want to bring one device with me. Now I always need two devices because one does things that the other can't and the other way around. And this means more weight in my backpack, wich I don't want. I think that when the iPad would get MacOS or something more similar it would be a much more capable device, especially because of its touch screen. It doesn't even need to bee on the same OS that's ok, but it needs to be much more similar to Mac than it now is!

I agree with all things you said in your video but not with your final conclusion. We won’t see if our dreams have come true, if the new iPads come out.
They will be shiny new products, with amazing new spec bumps and maybe one or two surprises, we don’t have seen coming. But they will be iPads as we all now them on the Hardware side.
Maybe we’ll see at WWDC. But I don’t think either. As mentioned before, we love the iPad for its Hardware and for its OS being something unique. It is all about the Apps, and there are the hundreds of developers that make their decisions of how their apps should be on the iPad. It will take for years until all our beloved Mac apps are on the iPad the way we want them to be.
If that dream will ever become true..
So there we have the reason why many people want to have Mac OS on the iPad. They just want to use the Mac Version of these Apps now and don’t want to wait, maybe forever for the Apps to catch up.
Maybe there would be one solution. Macs are able to run iOS apps right now, wouldn’t it possible to run Mac Apps on the iPad…

Don’t you find it strange that in truth the iPad already has “wireless charging” if you look at how through the Magic Keyboard you can charge your iPad with the three metal dots on the back?
Overall the name of “wireless” charging is marketing bs, because the Qi and even MagSafe are not wireless. Wireless charging would be the device in your hand without anything touching it and it charges. But that is not the discussion here. The iPad already has the ability to “wireless” charge with a different port, all they would need to do is create a cable to stick to the back of the device the same way the Magic Keyboard does

MS went all-in on Windows Tablets with W8, and it was a significant dark age for MS, a complete mess and utter failure. Most Windows OEMs have abandoned tablets and now have clunky 360-degree devices that could be better for carrying around as tablets. The Surface sells in low quantity, and MS no longer even calls it a tablet as they know its reputation. There is zero chance Apple would copy such a disastrous business model, and it is almost inconceivable after the failure of Windows Tablets; you would think that would be likely!!!

I'll start off saying the ipad, in general, is a great device. It's a nice hybrid versatile product. But saying that!
There is a lot to be said about the pros, which are in the price range of an M3 macbook air if you add a couple of accessories. And let's face it NO ONE uses an ipad pro without any accessories. In fact, most will have a keyboard and an apple pencil.
Right now is "Pro" isn't really professional, most of which can all be done on the ipad air..
We need more software for the pro specifically, not just little gimics.
Apple needs to suck its pride up and support a couple of developers to bring over exclusively software.
We need Xcode, apples own IDE for coding professionals. This will open up so much that we could code on the go, less bulk for many, many reasons.
Second, we need ether a full-fledged Unity application or a way to use the software over, say, a cloud. Which I don't like, but it's a start.
    Or the best possible way.
Just like macOS uses Rosetta to use Intel software, why doesn't IpadOS use a Rosetta system to use MacOS? There is bloody software!
So in summary. More professional, not just an ipad with a high Hz screen lmfao.
We need a IDE Xcode to start
    Unity for game development.
Just these alone will open the ipad pro up to a HUGE market. Software developments and game developers.
Right now, the professionals is only creatives.

If you can't do software development on the device, Xcode, Docker etc it's not a "Pro" device ... I moved from my iPad Pro, to an Macbook because of this. The IpadOS is the problem ... not the hardware.

Being restricted to these not so great apps is so limiting. Make it more like a computer with a better filing system that is more friendly with Microsoft word. Using a macOS on the iPad is not a fix. It would be ground breaking to make a mini easy to use computer friendly with Microsoft instead of a big clunky iPhone. I get it that Apple makes money off of these stupid apps, but they would out sell everyone with an iPad that lived up to its potential .

After ALL this time I think it's time to fire Tim Cook. He's proven he can't do it. It takes years to just get an upgrade of an existing product. In any other company, anyone would have been thrown out a long time ago.
