I sang "Last Rose" at my dad's wake. I'm not a trained singer, and this performance (on CD, with all the lyrics) guided me. Very healing!
To this day I don't know how John got through this song. He was singing and crying. I'm sure Hope and Peter heard him singing their song.
John is a throw back to the old Celtic singers. Listen how he turned the octave at the end. Magnificent.

I choked up from his first note. This had to difficult but so fulfilling to see thing this for his loving parents
This is heart wrenching. The pain that he is feeling he puts into the song so you are hearing his soul. Hard to watch and listen and not start dropping those tears yourself. Always sings from the heart, our John. Lovely tribute to his Mom and Dad.

Love John McDermott when he came to my city, he was out at the front. He was shaking hands with us and welcoming us to his show.
He is such a down to earth guy, when I saw him in Rochester NY he was greeting the fans at the door. He shook my hand and I got a picture with him, one of the nicest guys I've ever met.
One of my favorites. As I grow older (72) I can really relate to these words.

It never ceases to amaze me how John can sing through his own sorrow, such a beautiful, emotional song. I thank you for this gift of music to help heal others.

Had this song played at my dad's funeral of April gone by 2022 my dad used to play the harmonica so a neighbour of his childhood days played the harmonica at his funeral.

This is one of the songs that is my mother`s favourite. She passed away late last month at the age of 82. She was survived by her 7 Chinese children and 11 grandchildren. She was a devoted Christian and we are blessed with her FAITH in GOD and many have become followers. We are very delighted that we have been chosen by GOD. Rest In Peace mom. May God`s LOVE shine on every body, for there is ONLY ONE GOD and His Son Jesus Christ. ONLY ONE church that is open to ALL PEOPLE on earth with open arms through its many doors and windows. This recording always gets me. Yes, it's beautiful, but John also "gets" the song in a way that most people just don't. My Grandma Deese lived to almost 103. She outlived everyone in her family, my Grandpa, and two of their children. SHE was the Last Rose of Summer in the same way that John's Mother was.
