Unable to get 'Ocean Ready' on the Medallion. Called Princess and was told things could only be done on the Medallion. Then find out there's a web browser version that didn't work much better. Finally got things entered only to find out a month later that the dining reservations were lost. Called Princess and made new reservations. Three of the seven days were correct but not the rest. The app is a technological disaster. Its only purpose is to open the door and legitimizes someone hanging on to their phone.
I just returned from a Discovery Princess cruise. I love the Medallion Class experience BUT I was absolutely shocked and dismayed that they didn't have a bin for us to return the medallion which is a type of airtag. Where are they made and who are they made by? More than likely they're extracted in from mines and manufactured in factories that exploit their labor force. Image 3000-4000 medallions tossed at the end of every cruise. These should be recycled.
Hi William. The app is a plus for unlocking the door. It's also a plus for those that prefer to be more solitary or stay in their cabins, ordering things on their iPhones, gambling and pretty much doing everything they did at home. Parents also like it to keep track of their kids running around the ship. That is until little Johnny figures out he just has to stash his somewheres to throw them off. A ships card is much less bulky to carry around and works just fine. Not only is the app riddled with glitches, it's a real nuisance to process pre-cruise information; check out the reviews. Cruisers look 'banded' wearing them in what's supposed to be an elegant location. The Medallion Class app has no class. It's nothing more than a marketing tool to extract more money.
Been on a few cruises that use the Medallion Class. I absolutely love the door unlocking upon approaching the door, and the tap of the medallion to order drinks at the bar. I honestly don't carry my phone around the ship (except to take photos), so hubby has used the drink ordering feature and it works most of the time, but can take while. Love the TV, and ordering items from there! Frankly the whole concept has some work/kinks to over come. But I see the future as a bright one for the whole experience.
Yes. We cruised on Princess in Summer 2018 with Medallion. It worked great to unlock our cabin door but that was about it. So glad to hear it's fully functional now! Hopefully a Caribbean cruise later this year on Princess to fully experience Medallion Class. Using it in port sounds very unique.
You missed the bit about the app developers overuse of the "Sometimes" command. As in when you start the app, it sometimes fires up. When you look at the timetable of daily events it sometimes lets you scroll to another point of the day or sometimes it scrolls to a couple of days in the future. It's riddled with Sometimes functions. My wife and many fellow travellers gave up on it. I know of people who because they could not book a table at the MDR gave up and went to the buffet all week.it's an interesting concept, but is just too buggy.
Our last back-to-back was in early 2020 when those one the second leg gathered at various dining rooms. Staff used the medallions to do a head count for those staying on board. It didn't go well. On previous back-to-backs we either walked of to a central location and were cleared on going back on board or gathered in the Princess Theatre were the count was done on entering & exiting. The 2020 exercise took more than twice as long as the "old school" methods. Trust this bug had been corrected. Otherwise have found it works very well.
I would expect they have fixed that issue. We haven’t had any issues with the medallion devices tracking things. The app, on the other hand, that can be buggy.
My issue with all the changes since 2020 is how irrelevant the Captain Circle loyalty program has become. Before as a platinum level, I received a lot of great perks. Now, they are all rubbish and I don't have any loyalty to remain with Princess anymore. My next cruise is in 60 days and I will see how it goes, but I am not expecting too much from it. In comparison my last cruise prior to COVID was awesome because of all the platinum benefits.
I’m on the coral princess right now and the medallion has been great. No problems at all. Easy boarding and when at port getting back on the ship Is so much faster. Love ordering food and drinks from the tv direct to our room and it’s super fast and hot. Very happy with it and also the internet is pretty fast. No issues with that either so all in all I’m very happy with the medallion 😊
I'm on my 17th cruise with Princess. The Medallion idea is absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately the way that princess has implemented it is another discussion. The app doesn't work, I was on the dock at San Francisco for 5 days according to the app. 🤷♂️ the internet's is absolutely horrific. It's okay to use for email, it's okay to download UA-cam videos. Try uploading a picture to Instagram or try uploading a picture to Facebook and you'll find out it's is absolutely the worst internet at Sea and Princess needs to stop bragging about it. just my opinion.
Medallion contact number in the app for Australia has engaged tone. Cruise cancelled on Coral Princess 22/08/22 DineMy Way reservations don’t work. You enter the details and confirm and it doesn’t register. Some ports still shown as QDN! Princess selling cruise with new itinerary. Previous contract terms acknowledgement not recognised. I had to do this again. Previous payment for my wife not recognised and cannot change within the app. Once all 4 back to back cruises were there in the app. This no longer so. The medallion pre cruise is a massive FAIL.
Great video! I have not cruised with Princess before. You’re video was very informative! I had no idea the Princess Medallion could be used in some Ports Of Call, as a solo cruiser, that helps me make my decision to cruise with Princess!
I am amazed that this appears to work. I can't do anything on the phone app except choose dietary choices, ..... that's it. The online version freezes in about 30 seconds EVERY SINGLE TIME, and tells me I have a bad booking number, yet when I am able to sneak into my personal info before the online app crashes, the booking number is there. This does NOT look good for a week I was hoping to enjoy. Also not happy at all that I am expected to carry my phone with me all the time... that is the whole point of going on vacation.
Fast forward a year, and I have found that just about anything useful and not related to up-selling has to be found from third parties. Like, which restaurants are Prix-Fixe on the ship we're sailing on? Which are Specialty on same? It's a challenge getting this info from Princess and it's a challenge to get it even from third parties, as in, the third parties like to show you what's available on *all* of Princess ships, never-mind I only care about the one we're sailing on. So you have to scroll and scroll and scroll, and "Oh, here's an interesting restaurant! But it's available on every ship except ours. 😢 Keep scrolling."
Many youtubers explain what the Medallion app is but many fail to show how to download the Med app or if it is the same as the Princess app. I'm new to princess and I think that would be helpful. Thanks

@@doncampbell8081 I was just on the Princess site. You can order unlimited drinks under 15(20?) dollars. There is no per person drink limit, however you can't share with someone else. Technically, you could order 15 drinks a day(or more)if you wanted to.
@@doncampbell8081You don’t have to say a word. As you walk up the the bar, they already know you who are due the your medallion and will greet you by name. It makes everything so simple.
One thing they DO NOT tell you until it is too late. IF your device does not have enough memory, your medallion is almost totally useless Yes, at home it will load and you can do what is needed UNTIL you board. Learned this the hard way. Also I think this is why people say the WiFi is so bad. Not the WiFi it is your device!!!!

I'm not sure about the safety of the medallion. Ok so it unlocks my cabin door....and then what? Is it still unlocked because i have the medallion nearby in my cabin? Is it possible another passenger passing by can unlock it? I'm an old women cruising alone and worried about all the "what ifs" I don't have one of those bands or bracelets or whatever it is but i still have an old card lanyard....will i be able to attach it to that? There isn't enough info on the safety of the medallion and i'm scared.
No need to be scared. The medallion is safe. The door is smart enough to lock again once you enter. The medallion is specific to your account and room, others can not open your door.

I would love to cruise again with Princess but this medallion process confuses me so. Haven't a clue how or what to do. At my age understanding is very difficult. I am an Elite level with this line as I've enjoyed many trips. Has any cruise planner any patience to help me? I've reached out to a few of them and they won't reply.
Quite honestly its a bit of a gimmick, when it works its great, but that’s 50% of the time at best. On my last cruise I gave up with it as did most passengers. Don’t worry you can still order things and make reservations in the traditional way
I am with you. I have no need to carry my cell phone on vacation. I like to talk face to face with someone to order or make requests. We will not be using this App. I will force someone to help me face to face.

One of those things you need to start figuring out. Put in the work and learn it. I’m on the ship right now - they might help but at the end you’re on your own
We just got off a Medallion cruise and was told (at Princess 800 number) I can't get a medallion sent to my home for our medallion cruise in four weeks. I then remembered that a person at customer service on the ship told me I didn't need to order another medallion, I could just replace the battery. If true, where is the battery and how does one access this battery?

I sailed on the Regal Princess at the beginning of March and I found the ordering food/drinks feature on the ship to be pretty terrible. I tried ordering a drink and some pizza when I was sitting by the pool on the first sea day and the app was stuck in "preparing order" mode for over an hour. In the end my order never showed up, yet later on when I was in the app, the order status had been changed to "delivered." It was the same with drinks. One night I was sitting outside on the promenade deck and wanted a drink while I watched the sunset. Again, the app got stuck in the same stage and after 40 minutes I went inside and got my drink at a bar instead. What was most frustrating was that every time a drink didn't come, it still got counted towards my 15 drinks/day allocation. I'll be sailing on the Ruby Princess next month to Alaska, so I'll be interested in seeing if the app works any better on that ship.

I purchased a set of watches and personalized Medallions I realized I ordered the wrong size strap so I canceled the order. It wouldn't let me in to change the order to a larger size so I canceled it. When or how can I ordered and use my credit. Or do they refund the credit card? I don't want to lose my money or credit.
Hi, have purchased Princess Premier package. If we haven't used all that we have paid for (2 of total cost was £910), can any balance we carried forward to another future cruise?
First the medallion only delivers to US addresses, so if you live in any of the 194 other places on earth, then prepare to wait. Second, the app & website are slower than maple syrup in winter, prepare to watch spinning wheels, & phone support experienced the same problems on their side, so it's not a localized internet speed issue. 30 minutes with phone support, two hours messing with the spinning app & website portal - just wait in line on embarkation day, do nothing online. Better yet, vote with your feet & cruise with another line.
Not really. If there is an emergency family can contact the cruise line 800 number. If they know your ship, your name and sail date, they should be able to get a message to you. There are not direct numbers to the ships.
Nice to know I can sit somewhere and order a drink and it will eventually be brought to me - but if course now I’m tied to that location awaiting a drink - and on vacation with friends - plans can change quickly - so how long will I wait? Also none of these “How to use MC” videos actually show you anyone ordering anything in a bar or restaurant and using their medallion to pay for it. Does the bartender or waiter carry a portable medallion reader with them? I’m sure its not a big deal but showing actual use close up is much more practical and valuable information than all the glossy hype about how spectacular this tech is. Especially when plenty of previous users have had a not so spectacular experience.
Don't know if you've cruised since posting this but I can assure you that the app is very easy to use or the crew or another passenger will help you. I helped several of my fellow senior cruisers use it. And don't worry if you move after ordering. Your drink order will follow you. I cruised last week and the app worked perfectly.

Just home from a cruise on Regal Princess. The app does not work it is the most frustrating issue on board and the most active topic on board also the so-called fastest internet at sea is a total rip off with no real internet access Princess and technology just don’t go hand in hand. 😎
When I link my reservation # to the App, it says my voyage starts a day before the actual cruise. It is most likely because I booked a day-before hotel with Princess. Ship events are showing up on my 'hotel' day and I am not able to choose any specialty dining or see purchased shore excursions. Contacting Princess has not helped. Does anyone know of a workaround for this?
Booked on Princess in October, got the drink package (but not a drinker) wifi check, prepaid tips and as of now $250 on board with another $100 from my stock in the works. Did I hear you right on board can be rolled over? Because right now its the casino or the shops. PS got cruise for $700 plus tax, somebody's loosing money lol
I am getting ready to take a cruise on the Princess Grand ship to Alaska. I want to gamble while on the ship but I am not sure what is required. Do I bring cash to gamble or do you use your medallion that is linked to a credit card? If so would that mean they take cash advances against your card? Do you apply for some type of separate credit card to use. I would appreciate any guidance in this area.
It does not work. Duplicate cruises listed or not at all. My wife's pic shows up on my account. We are simply going to have all our paperwork readyattheport. There is no choice for CPAP distilled water at night. The four tech. support resources have said they will call back that does not happen. Why does Princess hire a third party resource to do their communications? Enough
It's not better on Android, it has a two star review! I reported a bug where it forces you to use specific ID types and they fixed it. You can tell they never thoroughly tested the app.

Could anyone tell me please, if I order the WiFi for four devices does that mean I can have two devices connected and my wife use the other two or does it only grant access to the booked person, ie if we both want to use our iPhones and iPads we would have to pay for two lots of ‘four devices’. I can’t find out this information on the Princess web site and dispite asking them they never got back to me.
This glorified dog tag might as well be attached to your foot, because you'll feel like death waiting for the spinning wheels of the app or the website to get anything done. They deliver this thing to US locations only, according to the phone support (yes, I waited 30 minutes on hold to find out). This does NOTHING to expedite travellers from none US locations. Goodbye Princess, I'm done.
Medallion has been a massive disaster with our 4 cruise bookings. The Medallion has a separate database to the Peronaliser. Itineries are different with the Medallion taking days to catch up. DineMyWay shows inaccuracies in ports. Even within the app itself there are inaccuracies. One part you are in the Green lane for embarkation, another shows a Blue Lane. The app wants the contract acknowledged. I have done this but it doesn’t register. Now my wife who is booked with me isn’t shown This app is up there with government IT. Cost a fortune to roll out with grand claims but an enormous FAIL. I dread the thought of using it to buy anything.
I can't believe anyone would be ignorant enough to think this app is wonderful. Guess they have nothing better to do than play with their tech toys than go cruising.
@@lancehughes4132 once on board there were some features that worked. These included boarding, track your mates, your account and opening the cabin door. Never used the playing games, booking excursions or casino. It’s a great idea but the developers obviously have never cruised.

@@lancehughes4132 obviously the cruisers are being used for quality control and product development. This is not unusual for e products. The company risks their brand name in the process. Loyalty vs inconvenience. The IT world counter this by having bots praising a product. The developers , & bots, are most unlikely to be cruisers. Princess wanted to be first to market. They skipped Beta testing by actual cruisers and went for a quick roll out to suit a roll out on all their ships. It’s their business, their choice and in the long run it’s success will be dependent on how short the process takes to evolve a quality product. 3 years now and still learning!

With problems of gambling addiction getting worse and worse, it worries me that Princess are actively promoting the medallion as a way of gambling whenever you want, wherever you are on the ship. It must be difficult enough for some, and I've seen them, simply that there is a casino onboard, but to offer such an incentive to gamble more makes it worse. Of course, it all helps Princess's profits.
We have been on several ships with the medallion and I will say I am not a fan. We have run into to many problems with it. We will see if it is any better next month.

Relatives on Sky Princess at the moment say they regularly wait an hour for drinks ordered through the medallion, so am wary for my upcoming cruise!

@@doncampbell8081 I was just on the Princess site. You can order unlimited drinks under 15(20?) dollars. There is no per person drink limit, however you can't share with someone else. Technically, you could order 15 drinks a day(or more)if you wanted to.
@@doncampbell8081You don’t have to say a word. As you walk up the the bar, they already know you who are due the your medallion and will greet you by name. It makes everything so simple.
Where and when do you get your boarding passes. We are Canadian so we don’t get our Medallion till boarding.

Yes, at home it will load and you can do what is needed UNTIL you board. Learned this the hard way. Also I think this is why people say the WiFi is so bad. Not the WiFi it is your device!!!!

I'm not sure about the safety of the medallion. Ok so it unlocks my cabin door....and then what? Is it still unlocked because i have the medallion nearby in my cabin? Is it possible another passenger passing by can unlock it? I'm an old women cruising alone and worried about all the "what ifs" I don't have one of those bands or bracelets or whatever it is but i still have an old card lanyard....will i be able to attach it to that? There isn't enough info on the safety of the medallion and i'm scared.
No need to be scared. The medallion is safe. The door is smart enough to lock again once you enter. The medallion is specific to your account and room, others can not open your door.
We had a great experience with the medallion. All orders were delivered promptly. App worked great.

I would love to cruise again with Princess but this medallion process confuses me so. Haven't a clue how or what to do. At my age understanding is very difficult. I am an Elite level with this line as I've enjoyed many trips. Has any cruise planner any patience to help me? I've reached out to a few of them and they won't reply.

Quite honestly its a bit of a gimmick, when it works its great, but that’s 50% of the time at best. On my last cruise I gave up with it as did most passengers. Don’t worry you can still order things and make reservations in the traditional way

One of those things you need to start figuring out. Put in the work and learn it. I’m on the ship right now - they might help but at the end you’re on your own
We just got off a Medallion cruise and was told (at Princess 800 number) I can't get a medallion sent to my home for our medallion cruise in four weeks. I then remembered that a person at customer service on the ship told me I didn't need to order another medallion, I could just replace the battery. If true, where is the battery and how does one access this battery?

Unable to get into the green lane because (I think) i cannot choose a Medaliaon wearable. I don't want tone. The lanward will do O.K. I says we can pick these up at the terminal. s
How do I fix this?
I sailed on the Regal Princess at the beginning of March and I found the ordering food/drinks feature on the ship to be pretty terrible. I tried ordering a drink and some pizza when I was sitting by the pool on the first sea day and the app was stuck in "preparing order" mode for over an hour. In the end my order never showed up, yet later on when I was in the app, the order status had been changed to "delivered." It was the same with drinks. One night I was sitting outside on the promenade deck and wanted a drink while I watched the sunset. Again, the app got stuck in the same stage and after 40 minutes I went inside and got my drink at a bar instead. What was most frustrating was that every time a drink didn't come, it still got counted towards my 15 drinks/day allocation.
I'll be sailing on the Ruby Princess next month to Alaska, so I'll be interested in seeing if the app works any better on that ship.

I purchased a set of watches and personalized Medallions I realized I ordered the wrong size strap so I canceled the order. It wouldn't let me in to change the order to a larger size so I canceled it. When or how can I ordered and use my credit. Or do they refund the credit card? I don't want to lose my money or credit.

First the medallion only delivers to US addresses, so if you live in any of the 194 other places on earth, then prepare to wait. Second, the app & website are slower than maple syrup in winter, prepare to watch spinning wheels, & phone support experienced the same problems on their side, so it's not a localized internet speed issue. 30 minutes with phone support, two hours messing with the spinning app & website portal - just wait in line on embarkation day, do nothing online. Better yet, vote with your feet & cruise with another line.

Not really. If there is an emergency family can contact the cruise line 800 number. If they know your ship, your name and sail date, they should be able to get a message to you. There are not direct numbers to the ships.
Nice to know I can sit somewhere and order a drink and it will eventually be brought to me - but if course now I’m tied to that location awaiting a drink - and on vacation with friends - plans can change quickly - so how long will I wait? Also none of these “How to use MC” videos actually show you anyone ordering anything in a bar or restaurant and using their medallion to pay for it. Does the bartender or waiter carry a portable medallion reader with them? I’m sure its not a big deal but showing actual use close up is much more practical and valuable information than all the glossy hype about how spectacular this tech is. Especially when plenty of previous users have had a not so spectacular experience.
Don't know if you've cruised since posting this but I can assure you that the app is very easy to use or the crew or another passenger will help you. I helped several of my fellow senior cruisers use it. And don't worry if you move after ordering. Your drink order will follow you. I cruised last week and the app worked perfectly.

Which ship? There are several different Princess ships with MedallionClass. In our experience, these vessels don’t have pool tables.

I heard the WiFi is hard to connect due to so many on board.
It really depends on the region. In Alaska the internet was spotty, but in Mexico on Princess the internet was solid.

We can try to help. You need to download the medallion app and enter your reservation info. Once you do that? You can do the check-in.
Just home from a cruise on Regal Princess. The app does not work it is the most frustrating issue on board and the most active topic on board also the so-called fastest internet at sea is a total rip off with no real internet access Princess and technology just don’t go hand in hand. 😎
When I link my reservation # to the App, it says my voyage starts a day before the actual cruise. It is most likely because I booked a day-before hotel with Princess. Ship events are showing up on my 'hotel' day and I am not able to choose any specialty dining or see purchased shore excursions. Contacting Princess has not helped. Does anyone know of a workaround for this?

Booked on Princess in October, got the drink package (but not a drinker) wifi check, prepaid tips and as of now $250 on board with another $100 from my stock in the works. Did I hear you right on board can be rolled over? Because right now its the casino or the shops. PS got cruise for $700 plus tax, somebody's loosing money lol
The onboard you earn from the ashore benefit can be applied to a fcc. Not regular obc.

I am getting ready to take a cruise on the Princess Grand ship to Alaska. I want to gamble while on the ship but I am not sure what is required. Do I bring cash to gamble or do you use your medallion that is linked to a credit card? If so would that mean they take cash advances against your card? Do you apply for some type of separate credit card to use. I would appreciate any guidance in this area.

It does not work. Duplicate cruises listed or not at all. My wife's pic shows up on my account. We are simply going to have all our paperwork readyattheport. There is no choice for CPAP distilled water at night. The four tech. support resources have said they will call back that does not happen. Why does Princess hire a third party resource to do their communications? Enough

The app itself was a bit glitchy at times, but we loved the Medallion and all the associated features.
It's not better on Android, it has a two star review! I reported a bug where it forces you to use specific ID types and they fixed it. You can tell they never thoroughly tested the app.

Could anyone tell me please, if I order the WiFi for four devices does that mean I can have two devices connected and my wife use the other two or does it only grant access to the booked person, ie if we both want to use our iPhones and iPads we would have to pay for two lots of ‘four devices’. I can’t find out this information on the Princess web site and dispite asking them they never got back to me.
everyone has to use the same login info as the purchaser, but anyone can use the 4 devices.

Depends on the ports of call and embarkation. We always recommend having a passport. Plus you need to complete all check in documents in the app.
When is the medallion sent to us?
This glorified dog tag might as well be attached to your foot, because you'll feel like death waiting for the spinning wheels of the app or the website to get anything done. They deliver this thing to US locations only, according to the phone support (yes, I waited 30 minutes on hold to find out). This does NOTHING to expedite travellers from none US locations. Goodbye Princess, I'm done.

Medallion has been a massive disaster with our 4 cruise bookings. The Medallion has a separate database to the Peronaliser. Itineries are different with the Medallion taking days to catch up. DineMyWay shows inaccuracies in ports. Even within the app itself there are inaccuracies. One part you are in the Green lane for embarkation, another shows a Blue Lane. The app wants the contract acknowledged. I have done this but it doesn’t register.
Now my wife who is booked with me isn’t shown
This app is up there with government IT. Cost a fortune to roll out with grand claims but an enormous FAIL. I dread the thought of using it to buy anything.
I can't believe anyone would be ignorant enough to think this app is wonderful. Guess they have nothing better to do than play with their tech toys than go cruising.
@@lancehughes4132 once on board there were some features that worked. These included boarding, track your mates, your account and opening the cabin door. Never used the playing games, booking excursions or casino.
It’s a great idea but the developers obviously have never cruised.
@@geoffreystone4849 The app is a nuisance before boarding and after. It's also intrusive and takes away from the cruise experience. Nothing more than a lame idea attempting to take in more money for CCL; not great for cruisers.
@@lancehughes4132 obviously the cruisers are being used for quality control and product development. This is not unusual for e products. The company risks their brand name in the process. Loyalty vs inconvenience. The IT world counter this by having bots praising a product. The developers , & bots, are most unlikely to be cruisers. Princess wanted to be first to market. They skipped Beta testing by actual cruisers and went for a quick roll out to suit a roll out on all their ships. It’s their business, their choice and in the long run it’s success will be dependent on how short the process takes to evolve a quality product. 3 years now and still learning!

Great question. You can pick up a medallion at the terminal prior to a cruise if it is not shipped to your home.

You don’t need the medallion to get ocean ready. You can do everything in the app. Check-in starts at 30 days before boarding.
You didn't mention that a pacemaker needs to be at least 6 inches away from a medallion. Not happy about this.

Celebrity is way much better.
With problems of gambling addiction getting worse and worse, it worries me that Princess are actively promoting the medallion as a way of gambling whenever you want, wherever you are on the ship. It must be difficult enough for some, and I've seen them, simply that there is a casino onboard, but to offer such an incentive to gamble more makes it worse. Of course, it all helps Princess's profits.
We have been on several ships with the medallion and I will say I am not a fan. We have run into to many problems with it. We will see if it is any better next month.
