In my opinion, it’s very very good for what is supposed to do. It was created to perform the same if not better than 9mm with more benefits. Which it does exactly that. The bullet is going faster, delivering more shock and can even penetrate enough to rip through the spine and essential organs with a good shot placement. Not to mention, it’s light, guns usually hold 15+. Expensive but that’s what you get with the gun world 💯
Absolutely love my PSA Rock. It came in ranger Green with a threaded barrel and a holosun Red Dot for next to nothing. I can dump around after around on a steel plate without that dot even moving. It currently resides in my truck.
I think folks expect more out of it than it can deliver, mostly due to the "armor penetrating" hype that requires round non-military/non-LE folks generally can't obtain. It's good at doing what it's designed to do - provide a realistic PDW round for rear-area troops in a select-fire format that is effective at 100 meters. It's not 5.56, but on the other hand, folks who compare it to the .22 Magnum are folks who can't do math. I have a PS90, a Ruger 57 pistol and LC carbine and no illusions about what they can do - none of them are my go-to for "social purposes".
I have the FN57 and several 9mm's. For me, average sized guy, the 57 is a little too big for EDC so I have some smaller 9mm's that I use. I found a threaded barrel for the FN and with a Red Dot and the suppressor, it's my house gun. Don't care what you're wearing when you come into my house, I can put a hole in you. Then there are the Elite T6B +P AP rounds... Several dollars per round but 2,500 fps out of a pistol is amazing.

I was really surprised he killed that bear so quickly with that little round.
your friend is an idiot shooting a large game animal in the head. It's one of the easiest places to miss (which he didn't) but it's rarely an instant kill and gave the bear upwards of 30 or more seconds to fight. You go for the boiler-room.. and his 5.7 had more than enough to do it.

Die militärische Munition mit ihrem typischen Tannenzapfen Geschoss ist der Zivilen erheblich in Penetration und auch Stoppwirkung überlegen.
As a owner of a 5.7mm firearm, I think it is a bit overrated. It would be a fun range plinker, but ammo costs are stupid high for what it is. I think .22magnum is better for the money, but doesn’t have as many good platforms.
5.7 imo is perfect. It's able to do the work at longer distance, and fast af. The five/seven pistol barrel is too short to get the max bang out of the cartridge. But out of of 8in barrel you get all the joy.
I have had horrible luck with FN. I'm not saying they are a bad manufacturer but I am cursed with their products. I've had a five seven that was sent back three times and still couldn't make 100 rounds without lite strikes and double feeding. I also had an FNX that shipped with a crooked frame. The only product from them I have had luck with was a 509C and even then it had a rough break in period. I am glad 5.7 is getting popular because it was such a fun and controllable round. Thinking of getting a ruger 57 or a Rock.
I dunno. I know that 38SW is under rated bigtime. Also 30-30. Heavy slow is better SD than light fast... maybe. Controllable and not excessive noise is better than super sonic unless your long range hunting.
The FN Five Seven Mk3 is overrated. I was kinda disappointed with my purchase but nevertheless I keep it in my collection because it's become a staple in the gun community. My main gripe with it is that it comes with those weak glow in the dark sights instead of tritium sights. I mean if it's supposed to be a tactical pistol, how do you not ship it with tritium night sights. Honestly, who's got time to run a flashlight across their sights before engaging in self defense? I could add a red dot or a laser but why should I HAVE to? I should be able to run the gun vanilla and be prepared for almost any occasion. Other than that, the grip is a tad short, or maybe my hands are just too large. Outside of that, it's a good gun but for the price i just expected a little more. Look at the FNX 45 tac or the 545 tac, they both have night sights and the grip is the perfect length
Hmmm, interesting comments. My opinion... caliber in a handgun is almost unimportant - within reason (.25 auto need not apply...) - what's important with a handgun is hitting what you're shooting at, which most handgunners are very poor at. Hitting your target is a matter of many hours and thousands of rounds of practice. Most handgunners would be more effective spending their money on range fees, ammo, and targets than a different handgun.
Remembering what it's designed for I think it's a good round and a good set of firearms. I've got a PS-90 and it does its job. I do not have a 5.7 pistol as I'm not much of a pistol person. I was certain that twisty magazine feed would be fussy but I've never had any trouble. Whether it's the best firearm you could buy with that many dollars is another question. I'm not sorry I bought mine.
Is that one of those pistols that shoots a mini Rifle looking cartridge? I'd rather stay with readily available ammunition for any firearm considering the time's we're in. You don't want a firearm with a rarity for ammunition.
That’s the way I see it. I choose a firearm based on ammo availability. The latest greatest caliber ammo always stays scarce and expensive for a good long time. That’s not for me.
So stock up. It is a HANDGUN and less likely to get heavy use, compared to the long gun that does all of the fighting work.............................elsullo
There's reasons. #1, most people can't even find it, and just don't care for it. It's just like 21sharp. No one cares for a more expensive .22 round that barely edges it out in accuracy compared to LR. The only thing it has going is extreme speed so it will edge out LR in penetration.
I have shot both the FN and the Rugar and the Rugar is half the price and way more reliable. The FN has feeding issues or at least it used to. I'm not a fan because of the over penetratrion and cost. I'll stick with my 9mm. When it comes to hand guns, it always seems to come back to the 9mm once the craze wears off
Its not overrated if you like paying rifle prices for pistol ammo. My buddy has an off brand pistol. Its pretty darn neat but id have to get the p-90 if im buying 5.7 ammo
Certainly a cool round from a technical perspective, and obviously the gun manufacturer makes a great product. But one has to ask why a normal person would ever need to consider it, given that 9 mm is perfectly adequate and significantly less expensive, and there are many excellent and significantly less expensive firearms to shoot it from. Basically, 5.7 is an expensive novelty that's fun to play with for folks who enjoy firearms and can afford to buy extra pistols.
Round count and recoil. The PSA Rock holds 23+1 in a flush fit magazine and kicks like a kitten. Great for those who don't carry a backup mag and/or may be recoil sensitive. A 5.7 pistol can be bought for $500. Not really gonna break the bank buying one.
Why? Very little recoil making it easy to shoot; small wind drift or trajectory rise and fall make aiming simple; and small chance of overpenetration. Low weight and high capacity too for a bonus.............................elsullo

When you put T6B ammo in the 57 it’s a totally different story. It is definitely not a glorified 22 the T6 B ammunition is nothing like a 22 for a 22 magnum rifle round. I don’t know where people get this from, but I’m talking specifically the T6 B ammunition Which is beyond lethal
They were so focused on the objective of having a pistol cartridge that can defeat pistol rated body armor that they made the cartridge anemic. If they made it a straight-walled cartridge in the same case, it would be just short of 30 cal, deliver almost as much penetrating power but a lot more energy on target. It would also be more efficient, as everyone knows that high pressures and short barrels results in a ton of wasted energy.
I looked at this years ago and the things that steered me away were wound channel characteristics, hyper penetration, velocity and collateral damage to the back drop. My top shelf pistols are FN, just not in this chambering.
A noted major feature of the 5.7 civilian round is how LITTLE chance of over-penetration there is! It dumps all of its velocity energy INSIDE of the target..............................elsullo

Unlike the HP, shooting that the whole day will make your hands sore at the end of the day. I prefer this one over anything. Doesn't make you odd. 1 .50 Cal round is around 15 dollar in the US if I'm not mistaken and doesn't apply for situations like home defence or daily carry. All practical purposes.
@@Orgazmo-69 Not really, prices for .50 cal rounds are about 5 to 7 dollars on average. And some states are trying to ban it, which is unconstitutional for us. They're powerful cartridges, but rather limited in their application. Still, I think anyone should own one if they want.
I think the 5.7 round is pretty cool as well, and thank FN for designing it. A nice longer range round that gives the handgun format a bit more distance.
Yer not odd !! pelosi- she's pretty f'n odd !!
I kinda want one but the ammo would mean a second mortgage.

.50 Cal is way too big of a round for civilians in my humble opinion, but hey, protected the 2A, it's a free land.

So it's reloadable. Thats something to think about if components are available and the brass is good .
was issued the handgun and machine gun while in spec ops when it first went into service, also have owned both since inception, will NEVER not be without one as this will do anything you need it to and then some, it is not for hunting large game(except humans) so no bear will drop(though it is possible with enough head shots!! if you have to chance to shoot a p90 do it and you will be hooked on this caliber FOR LIFE!!! 🤠
OF course you have me at FN!
Expensive but that’s what you get with the gun world 💯
Only gun channels I need are this one and forgotten weapons!
Can you show a close up comparison between 5.7 and 22mag?
I have a PS90, a Ruger 57 pistol and LC carbine and no illusions about what they can do - none of them are my go-to for "social purposes".
you can buy those armor rounds on gunbroker or wherever online, its just that FN themselves decide to not to sell it to civilians
It's not overrated. It is powerful.

A direct comparison shoot by you with a 22 WMR pistol (S&W ?) would be interesting!
Didn't know you could grow coconut here, and I'm a little south of you!
Some years back I was visiting my friend up at his place in the woods and he had a black bear getting into his garbage cans, he opened his front door and his dog ran past him after the bear, he grabbed his 5.7 ran out there with his dog confronting the bear he started shooting and killed that bear with several head shots.
@Joe-by3bu I believe I called him an asshole. He was just worried about his wife's old dog getting mauled.

It never knocked me down and out but my one 9mm to that demons chest sent him to his master, I always told dudes 5.7’s are trash for self defense. You can’t get the real rounds they’re more for comp shooting
That was an interesting display of damage on the cinderblock. Hickok should do a similar display on multiple blocks with different handgun cartridges from .22 short to 500 S&W. Get on it!
weight savings not only for one person but a whole "platoon" shipping thousands of rounds adds up along with everything else. efficiency and speed
dude looks so happy in this video lol keep blasting
When Hicok45 smiles, you know it's a good gun! :)
I like 22 wmr and 22 hornet as well
Will Glock be making one of these?? How does the reliability of this compare to a good old fashioned Glock??
As a owner of a 5.7mm firearm, I think it is a bit overrated. It would be a fun range plinker, but ammo costs are stupid high for what it is. I think .22magnum is better for the money, but doesn’t have as many good platforms.
Its like .223 pistol in rifle world:)
But is it worth?
nice caliber, low recoil good penetration, light ammo. Expensive, though
5.7 imo is perfect. It's able to do the work at longer distance, and fast af. The five/seven pistol barrel is too short to get the max bang out of the cartridge. But out of of 8in barrel you get all the joy.
Thanks Hickok!
Also 30-30. Heavy slow is better SD than light fast... maybe. Controllable and not excessive noise is better than super sonic unless your long range hunting.
so how was the EAR-PRO
installing going 1-handed
... be all well soon!!
Waiting on you to try out the tisas px 57 .. curious of your take on it just picked up mines last week love it ❤
First time seeing somebody shoot a coconut and im subscribed too lol, suprised i havent seen you do it beforec
But, Hickock...will it smoke pot? 🤨
Surgery on base of the thumb, retired my 1911 days. Went to 5.7 with no external safety. Don't feel under gunned!
One of my favorites guns and calibers but its gotten very expensive at about $1.00 per round unfortunately.
It’s such a fast round i was hoping you would hit the gong to hear how quick it gets there.
Great video thank you 😊
Why is .22 Hornet never compared?
There's reasons. #1, most people can't even find it, and just don't care for it. It's just like 21sharp. No one cares for a more expensive .22 round that barely edges it out in accuracy compared to LR. The only thing it has going is extreme speed so it will edge out LR in penetration.
@@TwentyTwoSigma It still seems it should've been more developed and consequently more common than 5.7.
At 3000 fps comparing it to LR is nonsensical.
.22 Hornet is a nice centerfire round. It retains its popularity in the smallbore class of IHMSA Silhouette.
I have shot both the FN and the Rugar and the Rugar is half the price and way more reliable. The FN has feeding issues or at least it used to. I'm not a fan because of the over penetratrion and cost. I'll stick with my 9mm. When it comes to hand guns, it always seems to come back to the 9mm once the craze wears off
I don't like the Rugar, or even the Ruger .

I ended up going with S&W 57 with the Tempo barrel! Better shooting and 22+1
Wildcat rounds are hard to find and expensive when other rounds do the job perfectly well
Hi Hickok45.
E Very interesting gun 💥💥💥
57 in a p90 is cool, but I just dont have any interest in a 57 handgun

Dudes a national treasure.
The five seven isn't a bad pistol. I really like all the ones I've shot. The issue for me is regarding the round itself. All testing I've seen/done shows it to be more or less on par with 22 mag due to ammo restrictions.
Considering the ammo available to Civilians is little more than .22Magnum +P+, is 5.7 x 28 Overrated?
Hell yes.
As long as the ammo that really makes 5.7 x 28 shine is unavailable to the Civilian market, it will be overrated and too expensive.
It's a gun we all fell in love with in black ops 2 than we got one in real life and we are like eh
The pure joy he displayed while shooting the 5.7 is cool to see.
I have a Ruger 5.7 and love it bought for me by my son and wife.
