I get what you mean. It has the all terrain tires and the all terrain design but it cant even handle those mild hills. this video definitely made up my mind. Ill go with the cheaper ZX.
If you set it to off road mode it will give you more power up hill. It lacks torque on the low end but I took mine on some Enduro trails and it handled the mud well. Definitely want to utilize the eco mode on flats over long distance. It's like you have to ride it a certain way to get the most out of it.
Man after watching this and several other videos for months I finally pulled the trigger today and bought a SurRon. The disappointing supposed torque update is what did it for me. True it gave my RX a little more torque but not what I was looking for and on top of that it shaved a few mph off my top end.
I smoked a group of Super73 guys on my Grizzly riding the loop in Prospect Park last weekend. Not a single one of them could come close, and on hills, I could just toy with them. Plus the Grizzly has better suspension, way more battery, and when I bought mine (the 6th one sold) it cost me $2,550.
I don't think it's fair to compare this to a Surron. The Surron will straight out cook this thing and burn it. I think the best comparison when it comes to its category is the exact clones of the Super73 models. Like the Akez and Ghostcat bikes. Those things cost 1/4 of the price of every Super73 but with like 7-10 more features that the Super73 doesn't even have, I mean why the hell do people even buy this thing? Super73 made this thinking they could make so much profit and they thought that people would have no choice since they had no competition. Then comes the clones. You can call them what you want, because hands down, those things are so much better. After watching hundreds of videos for the last month (anxiety I had cause I can't wait for mine to arrive) These are the things I noticed that the clones have and the Super73 bikes don't. P.S When I saw your tiny bell as your horn, I wanted to cry feeling sorry for those who have those bikes. 1. Throttle grip 2. LCD Display 3. 7 Gears Shimano 4. 1/3 - 1/4 of the price 5. 1500 watts with a 48V18Ah battery 6. Tail lights 7. Horn 8. Headlights
Nice review. I installed the 10 speed kit and it gave me just a little more umph. But it was not enough and I was tired of getting 25 miles to a charge.. I sold it 2 weeks later.
I almost bought an S73 RX but I went for Ariel Rider X-Class instead after test driving both. I just find Ariel Rider to be more superb. For me, Super73 is like the equivalent to Boosted Boards’ hype. Started out in some garage back in March 2016 by a group of 4 DIY-ers, modeled after a Taco Mini bike and then in a month or two, were already found on Kickstarter. They definitely got their marketing and promo campaign correct and at the ‘sweet-spot’ time before the whole ebike motorcycle style market got saturated. From celebrities to social media influencers to tech UA-camrs. A lot of money were thrown in to make it happen, but they succeeded. Now they have a huge following and city ‘squads’ all over the globe, and is pretty much considered the Apple of E-bikes
Yo what ebike should I get?! Need something to be able to pick up some food and come back home. I’m looking at the duro bike and pedal pro bike but no videos on them. Have any experience or ideas?!
@@adobomoto the D class actually looks a bit cooler to me than the 52V. What do you think about that one? No rear suspension tho. Not sure how much that matters
@@HungryYett I like it too. lighter than the grizzly but still has two motors. If you have the budget for the grizzly, get the grizzly. just depends on your taste. If you like the d class look, go for it! dual motors are fun.
You’re missing the point of this bike. It’s like a beach cruiser. You obviously don’t understand different classes of bikes if you’re going to lump them all together.
I agree with you wholeheartedly about the super 73 and The Surron well they're illegal bro, cops haven't started taking them but why ride something the cops can take. you can DIY a better bike than them all for about $1500
There might be better e-bikes within the same class BUT as a whole package I think the Rx is great. Sure Sur Ron has all the power in the world, but what kills it for a lot of people is that it’s not street legal. Knowing my less torque/ less power RX won’t get impounded just for riding it on the streets sells it. I’m not bout that dirty life lol.
True. But after riding the rx off road, it’s definitely a scary bike to take off road. Why put shiny dnm suspension on if it’s too stiff for off road use? The springs they used were too stiff - 325lb weight limit explains that. Not sure who they were trying to target. But the hill climb thing is a bust. Ariel can do what the super73’s cant for much less $$
@@adobomoto i had a sonders fat tie bike with only front suspension and only 750 watt rear hub i added 1000 watt hub motor and secondary battery with separate throttle for front..i could climb anything and hit mud, trails rocks everything i threw at it..top speed about 40
Dont go offroad on street tires lol. They sell offroad tires for it, which i have taken over jumps. I also dont seem to have an issue riding it in mode 2 around cops, which effectively makes it street legal.
the only difference in a legal surron and a non legal surron is if you have it unlocked at its full stock power of 45mph its technically a class 3 ebike from the factory with it limited at “28mph” they are non registerable still and uninsurable gotta know your laws man cops cant fwu on a class 3 ebike if you arent breakin laws on the road itself
Just for grins, do you think it would help if you put a bigger sprocket on it, would it be better o hills if you were in the right gear using a bigger sprocket to help?
I bought it to get up the steep hills where I live. It’s terrible on hills. Gears would help, but it would be hard on the legs due to the compressed geometry. The advertised watts are nowhere to be found.
Idk man, did you update the firmware and try again? Im currently easily able to get up to 30 in about 10 seconds on my RX on flat ground. But definitely not uphill.
I'm just wondering if your whipping on a road and come to a fat hill is how much unlimited decreases in speed and how difficult it is when pedalling. I need something that can pedal otherwise I need a license and registration and insurance. I live on a hill n will never be going "off road"
So far I haven't had any problems with my R but I'm not trying to destroy it or push it beyond limits either. I live in a moderate hill with paved roads and in an elevation gain of 1600 feet over 6 miles I returned home for a total of 12 miles and I was at half charge on return (unlocked and full throttle). Anything within 12 miles this will get you there and back pushing it hard. If it is range you are interested in, consider peddling and use the throttle sparingly. I think this configuration will get 40 miles traveling at 12 - 15 mph average.
That’s a steal for 1800. The surron isn’t for everyone. I could not see myself riding that bike. I think that’s why more people like the looks/style of the SUPER73 bikes. The SurRon is basically a dirt bike. I hate to say it, but SUPER73 has a huge following.
Styling and a huge following is probably it’s selling best point. Nothing else. I was close to pulling the trigger on an rx. Still think about it to this day, best looking ebike in my opinion, also components seem premium. But like homie said, needs a bit more power for what they claim it was made for. Hard to swallow that price tag based on looks alone. And this is coming from a household with 2 super 73 bikes in the garage. Lol
@@adobomoto love this community shawver films 🎥 has awesome content...only thing missing on that channel is an ariel rider ❤ hahah and yeah bro where are your grizzly vids at...I got to wait till July...well worth the wait. I'll have the x class 52v soon enough anyway !

Nice bike and review.. it's pretty pricey but at least super 73 buyers don't have issues like the revv 1..i love the revv 1 from ride 1 up but too many issues..i think I'll look into the super 73 line up
Comparing a Super 73 to a sur ron is like comparing a Huffy to a Husqvarna. Yes, they will both go on dirt but they are made for different applications. Super 73 doesn't claim to be a off roading going up extreme terrain hills bike. Su Ron does claim that. Simply they are both great but made for different types of riders and terrain.
Something wrong with that bike according to their web site it should have 2000w motor and big battery if it is the RX model. I would call them see if something is setup incorrectly.
It’s been updated. I was in mode 4, but any mode takes me to 30mph. It’s shitty when you don’t get momentum before a hill, and stopping on a hill is discouraging because of it.
@@adobomoto yeah I think you'd need to be in the ball park of 4000W to have that instant torque feeling, but then the bike would have to weigh a lot more than 80lb
they'd have to make the motor twice as heavy and the battery 2 times larger and the bike would weigh 25lb more and then they'd have to make the frame stronger and the suspension bigger etc etc it's a vicious circle.
honestly the only issue I have with it besides the thumb throttle thing. off road with that thing at top speed with my thumb pressed down on it just doesn't sit well with me. rather not snap my thumb on a thick bump.
I have an RX myself. It is super slow. It is so slow is dangerous. This is a bike that can keep up with city streets traffic. From a stand still even in flat surface it struggles. I have been in bikes worth a lot less and those bikes can get off a standstill as fast or faster. This is an engineering issue. No software can fix.
Get an ariel rider grizzly. It’s cheaper, faster, has a better frame, a higher top speed, way more torque, and two batteries and two motors so it has more range. Use my code adobo - helps my channel
I got a bafang mid drive bbshd 52v 1000w continues power, ive seen on my screen it peak to around 1400w on hills taking me up hills no problems at all, it wheelstands on full power level going up hills if your not forward on it, nice video man i like your honesty 👍 lots of butt hurt comments but you get that🤙
I had plans to get one since I use a bike to get to work and stuff but I live up a hill and I usually have to push my bike since I do not have the legs to push myself all the way up (I’ve tried a lot of times) but im glad I watched this since I was tempted to get one
Thanx!. The bike is great! Great quality. The motor ....not so great i see. Especially for bigger riders. The more you syrain the battery the less power it gets over time. The wheels are not seal proof. The money spent on new batteries and maintenance is NOT worth the money. My segway max scooter has more uphill power than that ebike 🤣😂
I wanted the SurRon bad but I passed because don’t think the SurRon is really street legal and I can’t take the SurRon on beach bike paths. If the SurRon was legal it would definitely be no brainer.

@@adobomoto that is so true... I've seen so many cops on my surron and none of them care whether or not my ebike has pedals or not. I can see if u live in a small town the cops might trip cuz they are bored but in bigger cities they have better stuff to do.

We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!
RX Has to be the best bike i ever owned and it changed my life. This seems such a non issue compared to what it brings and how it towers above other ebikes in so many areas.
I'm not understanding the issues you're having on hills. I've got an s73 S1 and I'm a very big guy (over recommended bike weight limit for the S1) and it does just fine on getting me up hills, even from a stand still. Something's not right if this bike can't get you up hills. Might be something wrong with it.
@@adobomoto I live in a state where the beginning of most streets is an up hill and the end is a downhill. The S1 (with a less powerful motor) gets me through it all and I’m probably near 2 of you. I can’t imagine the RX being less capable. It accelerates me uphill from a stop. Sure it’s not going to rocket me there, but I’m not aware of any street legal ebike that can.
@@adobomoto I’m certainly not questioning your results, I’m just thinking that there’s gotta be something up with that. I just place an order for one, so I’m hoping to have different results soon.
Could have saved me the trouble of watching if you had said “ i come from su ron” right off the bat. First of all, the Super 73 is straight up legal everywhere you want to ride it. Everywhere you go people love it. The sur ron is NOT legal where most of you tubers are riding them and everyone loathes them flying by at 45. Because of you sur ron riders cities are gonna clamp down HARD on ebikes and it sucks because a sur ron is an electric motorcycle NOT an ebike. Starting out the Super at the bottom of a steep hill at a dead stop is so hacky but you knew that and that’s why you did it. Apples and Oranges dude you know that.
@@adobomoto I’m commenting on this video and what I perceive to be the cheap shots and bias within it. I know nothing about the bike you’re talking about so I have nothing constructive to add on that subject.
@@50scap3 no cheap shots. $3500 for an rx or $3000 for an ariel rider grizzly that can do more than the super73 and is more durable and is a direct competitor - which i also mentioned in this video. You simply chose the comments about the sur ron.
@@adobomoto I’m not familiar with that one either so I can’t comment. @@50scap3 so you aren’t educated about competition and say so yourself then say the video doesn’t need to be watched because people need to educate themselves? Am I missing something?
There's so much wasted space where the motorcycle engine would go. It makes me wonder why they don't make this a twin motor. Then it could actually compete with the Ariel.
People always want to complain about the torque but should just get a motorcycle. It's a bike with an electric motor and while they have bikes that perform better a lot of people with this bike for the looks and the community.
Wow this is, disappointing... It can't even go up a hill. With these prices why not just get a honda Grom? The Grom, plus fuel and insurance would be about the cost of a top of the line E-Bike.
I had a z125. Wasn’t the same fun. The grom is just a small heavy low powered motorcycle. An e bike has a different fun factor about it. Throw it in the back of my prius, go to a spot and mob around, hop on grass, sidewalks, etc
@@adobomoto Well maybe, but I can't say I've seen any E-bikes capable of stunting the way a Grom can. Grom can also off road just fine too, look up adventure Groms haha A 125 gas bike with manual transmission will always beat an E-bike imo. The Sur Ron would be ok but it's not street legal in Canada, unless you do a pedal mod and I hear that reduces your top speed
Yes the price is too high but its all about the frame a person likes and later you upgrade it. 90% of people dont keep an ebike stock. I personally like the super 73 frame more. Best bet is to get this bike used to save money on upgrades. so final conclusion who cares!
34 hundred bucks? 🤣 The super slow 73 105+ dislikes must be the Superslow73 owners that disagree your subjective opinion why they justify their paying & owning the Superslow73 is worth it .
to be honest I own this exact bike and it’s nowhere near as slow as that going up hills I would suggest trying to update your firmware and seeing if that solves the problem via the phone app or you may have gotten a defective bike because there’s a 2000 white motor in this bike it should be more than capable to go up most hills without a problem unless you’re over the load limit
@@adobomoto The only real way to get into unlimited mode is via the phone app it’s impossible to do it via the controller for legal reasons but the motor and this is 2000 W to get anything more powerful with cost quite a bit of money
Yes this bike is a momentum bike, you need it to get up hills etc. However the motor alone is insanely powerful which by software updates should become more and more useful soon
Dude this IS NOT an off road bike, it’s for shredding around a city, and it does great, sure the bike struggles a little on hills but go ahead and get an ugly alternative with more power off the line if it really bothers you that bad

In thier vids they show it going off road and doing all these jumps n shit. Then they void the warranty if you go off road... So dumb.
Really? Lmfao
1. Throttle grip
2. LCD Display
3. 7 Gears Shimano
4. 1/3 - 1/4 of the price

6. Tail lights
7. Horn
8. Headlights
Nice review. I installed the 10 speed kit and it gave me just a little more umph. But it was not enough and I was tired of getting 25 miles to a charge.. I sold it 2 weeks later.
Good for you. I can’t stand their prices for what you get.
We ordered two grizzlys and we are stoked. Have you tried the grizz yet? I think the suspension on the rx is prime though 👌
I have not, but my buddy has one. I will have to give it a go, but tbh - i smoked them both on my sur ron

I also dont seem to have an issue riding it in mode 2 around cops, which effectively makes it street legal.
the only difference in a legal surron and a non legal surron is if you have it unlocked at its full stock power of 45mph
its technically a class 3 ebike from the factory with it limited at “28mph”
they are non registerable still and uninsurable
gotta know your laws man cops cant fwu on a class 3 ebike if you arent breakin laws on the road itself
An unlocked Ariel Rider x-class 52v can easily top out at 37 mph. Even when left alone at it's 20mph limit it'll eat up hills without pedeling.
You know what sucks? Getting your suron confiscated by the police because the law says you're supposed to register it
Just for grins, do you think it would help if you put a bigger sprocket on it, would it be better o hills if you were in the right gear using a bigger sprocket to help?
I doubt it
I bought it to get up the steep hills where I live. It’s terrible on hills. Gears would help, but it would be hard on the legs due to the compressed geometry. The advertised watts are nowhere to be found.
it's a bicycle with paddle assist and throttle. it's not an electric motorbike. so stop treating it like it is.. smh

If you intend to ride in rough road, an e bike is not what you use. Get a dirt bike. Goodness
Lol

Now tell me about the ariel rider grizzly vs super73 rx 🤣
Something wrong with that bike according to their web site it should have 2000w motor and big battery if it is the RX model. I would call them see if something is setup incorrectly.
No, don’t bother calling. That’s the way this bike is, I own it and it’s only good for commuting, no good at hills at all.
It's supposed to peak at 2000W. Yours has to be limited putting 2000W in a geared hub motor you should have plenty of torque to start going uphill
Which mode are you using it in? Have you changed it to unlimited mode? You're probably in Class 1 mode by default

Both. Tested another super73rx on a hill yesterday, i guess these bikes just don’t do well from a stop unless you pedal a lot
You can only access unlimited mode in the APP
I have an RX myself. It is super slow. It is so slow is dangerous. This is a bike that can keep up with city streets traffic. From a stand still even in flat surface it struggles. I have been in bikes worth a lot less and those bikes can get off a standstill as fast or faster. This is an engineering issue. No software can fix.
You’re supposed to be pedaling up hills and to get going. It has pedals for a reason, it’s not a dirt bike.
Let me ask you a question.. did you Change the setting from 250w to full ?
Yeah. It’s no secret. The super73 is not meant for hills. It’s more for people who like the looks and don’t need a high performing e bike.

Thanx!. The bike is great! Great quality. The motor ....not so great i see. Especially for bigger riders. The more you syrain the battery the less power it gets over time.

For $1800 that I paid, for sure. For $3500 msrp and it can’t go up a hill? Fuuuuuck nooo 😂
Lmao tiny man = no balls for hills 🤣
Let's be honest, the Super73 bikes are just for fashion. Dollar for dollar there are better options
That was my point in this video. I’m not partial to any of them. I love my sur ron, but apples to apples, the grizzly blows the super73 out of the water
Sell that Super Pooper 73 and get a Sur Run for $4100!
I have a sur ron
@@adobomoto Awesome! So you already know 😎
@@moren0d1 yuuup 😂
