the skill set it takes to do this mind numbing work in mdf and turning not to mention carbon fiber finishing. simply stunning you sir are a true master in the diy audio world. i always new it was a sickness but this puts everything in it's place thank you for posting this killer build
This is truly amazing work, and notice how the title says DIY, sure with thousands and thousands of man hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars in equipment to do so, and what did you get in the end, something that looks like a million bucks, and is really just priceless, but you would appreciate the craftsmanship more than the sound quality, I mean there's a finite point where the difference in sound and EQ is just a preference, whether you like ornate sound, or a hushed roar with a sensitive high end feeling, this is really just art, it shouldn't be treated as a speaker
This is true, great art piece for sure. As far as the SQ I don't know what it sounds like. But just because a plastic instrument follows the design of a woodwind. Doesn't make the SQ the same. I would assume that the materials used in B&W speakers are specific in design to reproduce a specific sound. I find it hard to believe that these would reproduce that same sound using different materials. This is a nice use of a machine shop to copy a speaker though. They came out great and look very nice. Nice job.
The general idea behind the perfect speaker is to have a cone that is infinitely rigid, strong and weighs nothing, and the cone actuates in perfect harmony with the signal input, essentially you are limited from having the real sound because you would need to have the perfect microphone, recording studio, sound processor, and amp, the speaker itself doesn't have to be the same material as the instrument being played through it because that would create a doubling effect, where you're really hearing say a trumpet being played through a trumpet.
Unfrocking believable. To reverse engineer and then fabricate these speakers shows an extraordinary level of intelligence and skill. Wow! I would not have put the B&W name on them though. These "fakes" are probably better than the real deal. Congratulations on an amazing job.
I was there and watched all this come to fruition, well I wasn't really there but watched this happen over at a home theater forum that Mr.Reference frequents as do I. Bravo I say Bravo , absolutely splendid work , my jaw drops every time I visit the build thread.
awesome job. after 6 months and 450 hours of skilled labor + supply costs, your speakers worth 4-5 times more than the real b&w. congratulation on the job well done.
Amazing accomplishment both technically and artistically! Even your video is a work of art! Please don't let any of the idiotic negative postings diminish what you have done. They are only jealous that they lack the superior focus of will and artistry that you exhibit. Thanks for sharing it with us...BRAVO!!!
Man, astonishing. To tell you the truth, I would admire it every time for being made by myself. B&W is a great brand; for the enthusiasts, as well for the brand itself, this is something to be admired. Congratulations.
I bow in your presence, this is truly a masterclass of build quality and music preference. I can only imagine how good this music score, coupled with these speakers would sound. The 800 series speakers are not cheap, I hope your efforts were justly rewarded.
This is not a DIY home speaker build - you have some seriously fantastic craftmenship my friend - not to mention access to manufacturing equipment & quite a large pot of cash I would guess. These are custom built pro speakers even if it was for yourself and completed by yourself as 450hrs + materials + hire of equipment (if not yours) makes these gorgeous speakers priceless! Well done.
The single most impressive DIY build I've seen. It may actually be more impressive than the real B&Ws and possibly worth more when you count the labor involved. I like the carbon details. I think the real midrange "bulb" housing is just a fiberglass mold, probably not nearly as involved to build.
As a time served cabinet maker myself I love the work that has gone into these cabinets tge attention to detail is exquisite with all the bracing etc. Using cnc and milling machines takes a bit away from the "diy / home made" point of view but nonetheless simply stunning.
First off WELL DONE! They are amazing. Secondly, I can't believe how fortunate you are to have unfettered access to a shop like that! It actually looked empty except for the speakers you were working on.
Great!!! Amazing job. I don´t care if you work or not at Bowers and Wilkins, I don´t care if you spent more money putting together this project than buying a 800D, I don´t care if some dudes do not consider this as a "home made", I just want to show you my greatest respect for what you´ve done. It is an amazing job that obviously looks that has been done with passion and love, and that my friend is the key to achieve such amazing results as you did!! Congrats!!
Fellow DIY'er here, and I have to say that I'm a little jealous of your access to all that CNC/Lathe equipment. I've been wanting to design a build using a point source driver in a similar spherical enclosure crossed to an 8-10 inch sub in a curved cab below it. The spherical cab is going to take me a while though... :-/
i am not sure you can call them home made or DIY when you are clearly working at the bowers and williams factory. I know i don't have a CNC machine at home and a lot of the equipment they have there. I am not trying to take away from the obvious skill and craftsmanship you have. these speakers are amazing and truly works of art thanks for sharing this video.
That is incredible patience behind this job!!! Excellent mate! I made quite a bit speaker towers, for PA as well as HiFi, but this is.... man! GREAT JOB!!!
DOESN'T LOOK LIKE UR SHORT OF A BOB OR TWO SEEING UR SET UP, SO TO MAKE SOMETHING THAT LOOKS BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL SPEAKERS IS AMAZING + U USED ALL REAL WOOD UNLIKE B&W WHO USE LAYERS AND LAYERS OF WOOD COMPRESSED TOGETHER. JUST OUT OF CURIOSITY THE SPEAKERS WIRES AND OTHER INTERNAL BITS ARE SAME AS WHAT B&W USE IN THERE SPEAKERS. BUT 1 OF THE BEST EVER DIY SPEAKERS IVE SEEN
Extreme atention to detail truely the best speaker build ive ever seen. Think theres a lot of jealousy in the critisizing comments bellow lol. Well done mate:)awsome work
OH MY GOD. I have to say that is some SERIOUS SKILL, I love the design, the Colour of it all, some real stunning work my friend BUT most of all I LOVE your enthusiasm and dedication to make such beautiful pieces of equipment. I bet they sound amazing. I love it, Nice one man :D
all i have to say is "WOW!!" I know that B&W brand are high quality brand but i didn't realized how many time and effert are putting in there's speaker build. no i know why they price as that do...well done!!
I'm one of those that sees this and wants to scream! (WHY DON'T I HAVE ALL THIS TOOLS AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL SET OF HANDS!) Ohhhhhhhhhhhh the Envy!!!! A-W-E-S-O-M-E WORK!!!! Beautiful craftsmanship... Really... this is the second time I've seen this... now with my wife! ;)
hello dear. just want to say I was planing a project like this for ages, and now see that it is coming to life, it's amazing. still i don't have proper size details and electronic components so would like to ask if there is some of your planing what you would share with me? if that's not secret....
Not DIY as I know it with all those facilities! I've used Mcaps in my crossovers for years, although an external cross-over is great with lesser components, the Mcaps really don't suffer from microphonics even in the speaker enclosure. I really enjoyed watching this amazing build, thanks!
Corey Clark What good is a car? I'd much rather have a great pair of speakers that I can listen to for hours a day than some car I'll drive back and forth to work thirty minutes a day.
Incredible build! Were you able to get the same B&W drivers and crossover design? Have to been able to compare them the B&Ws? Great Cabinet work, but do you think your cabinet is a good as the B&W one? I understand their cabinet has not resonance at all?
I don't understand the point to make all the canals inside the enclosure if the thing is all sealed up. Can anyone explain? I hope it's not a noob question :S
Very nice build 800d , you use original corossover ? i see the Mundorf caps ... like original b&w , speackers it's original , all speackers ! You spend abaut 3-5k for speackers and corossovers , you make a great cabinets and save 50% from new B&W 800d . Very nice and impressive work ! Enjoy with one of the best speackers ! Thank you for sharing .
My Hero .... wow wow wow you are a mad man ... lol Great job!!! what patiance .. where did you get the specs for the pieces ? i'd like to attempt this ..
This is not about money.....its about "I built those from scratch". I would be proud of myself if I could make those at this level. STUNNING job
Absolutely amazing craftmanship! I am speechless by the complexity and the quality of this build. By far the Best DIY i have ever seen. Bravo to you!
Kaiki said.. "The fake is of far greater value, in its deliberate attempt to be real, it's more real than the real thing."
Z Reviews hey z ....love your channel too...!
I watch your channel all the time, and now we bump into each other on other channels, fate?
Very, VERY nice build. That took a lot of patience, experience, knowledge and artistry.
Thanks for sharing!
Im a joiner and that work is seriously impressive.. The paint finish is top draw.
the skill set it takes to do this mind numbing work in mdf and turning not to mention carbon fiber finishing. simply stunning

Amazing piece of reproduction, this is no Mickey mouse DIY, this is the jewel of sheer hard work and dedication
Real craftsmanship. whether you have the tools available or not. many wouldn't accomplish this even if they had the tool. Great job!!
Buying or renting the B&W factory is a bit of a stretch for. "homemade" to most. Cool video.....
Hahhahhaa...true...hardly DIY..awesome though.
Unfrocking believable. To reverse engineer and then fabricate these speakers shows an extraordinary level of intelligence and skill. Wow! I would not have put the B&W name on them though. These "fakes" are probably better than the real deal. Congratulations on an amazing job.
Congratulations. IS not only your equipment are your skills know how etc... GREAT JOB
Yes, I agree with you, Ozone.
I would probably name them
"MY REFERENCE"
I was there and watched all this come to fruition, well I wasn't really there but watched this happen over at a home theater forum that Mr.Reference frequents as do I.
Bravo I say Bravo , absolutely splendid work , my jaw drops every time I visit the build thread.
I am amazed at your workmanship. These speakers are absolutely amazing.
awesome job. after 6 months and 450 hours of skilled labor + supply costs, your speakers worth 4-5 times more than the real b&w. congratulation on the job well done.
Exquisite. You can't buy this sort of craftsmanship; you have to make it yourself. And it shows. If you ever 'don't want them...' come talk to me.
The most impresive 1:1 copy I've seen, wow, but the tools are most impresive
This is beautiful and a work of art. You are truly an inspiration to me. I will remember this video for a long time.
Amazing accomplishment both technically and artistically! Even your video is a work of art! Please don't let any of the idiotic negative postings diminish what you have done. Wow!!!! You took the blueprint right out of the lab! Amazing job and talent.

My mind is blown, I love B&W speakers and watching the construction of those 800Ds is just amazing! Thank you for sharing!
Beautiful speakers, no i mean transducers. Fantastic bit of diy!
YES! B&W 800 Diamond will always be the best and most beautiful speaker in the world!!!
the level of craftmanship keeps amazing me i watched this video way too often...

Your amazing creaftmanship is a significant proof of the existense of man kind in this universe, I really don't know what to say. Great job !
First off WELL DONE! They are amazing. Secondly, I can't believe how fortunate you are to have unfettered access to a shop like that! It actually looked empty except for the speakers you were working on.
Amazing art of wood work! These speakers are so beautiful, that seems just can't sounding bad!
Thats some serious craftmanship..
Great!!! Amazing job.

Fantastic, unique, beautiful engineering wonder theese speakers are... I wish some day i can hear and enjoy that sound...

A dir poco spettacolare!.. Una vera opera d'arte.

I haven't been around for ages Ref, and this is what you get up to!!
Incredible skill there matey, seriously...WOWZERS!! Hope you're keeping well. ;)

Beautiful craftsmanship...
Really... this is the second time I've seen this... now with my wife! ;)
Superb. If I had a man cave twice the size and twice as well equipped, I still don’t think I could have done as nice a job...
Craftsmanship is something the world is loosing sight of. I wish I could be at this level, it' going to take a while for me to work my way up.
hello dear. just want to say I was planing a project like this for ages, and now see that it is coming to life, it's amazing. still i don't have proper size details and electronic components so would like to ask if there is some of your planing what you would share with me? if that's not secret....

I think this guy works for B&W and actually builds these for a living. If not this is very impressive.
By far the nicest boxes I've ever seen.
Fantastic workmanship and dedication, simply stunning...
Single craftsmen, inspirational.
You couldn't build the amps too? Just kidding simply amazing.
Absolutely, totally amazing. I bow in humbleness.
An impressive project. Congratulations!.
I wonder what they sound like when compared to the actual B&W speaker and, what would a set of these cost.
Hats off to you. What components have you used to build them?
Gorgeous work but it does look like DIY with a lot of help from some very special equipment.
Well, I was looking for inspiration and this just crushed any hope or dream I have ever had of building a decent speaker cabinet.
Is that Jantzen Cross-caps your using in your filter ?
There's allot of sad jealous people in this world!
The kerfing is just insane, and that is some mad skills and dedication.
but dont you think he could make some awesome custom car?
Corey Clark What good is a car? I'd much rather have a great pair of speakers that I can listen to for hours a day than some car I'll drive back and forth to work thirty minutes a day.
Move to a place you can drive then ;-)
Very very well done! But what drivers? Did you take from other pair of b&w ??
I cant believe what I just watched. Amazing...Thank You
WHAT !? They look incredible.
hello!! it's a fantastic work!! can you make a video review about how they sound?
Incredible build! Were you able to get the same B&W drivers and crossover design?
Have to been able to compare them the B&Ws? Great Cabinet work, but do you think your cabinet is a good as the B&W one? I understand their cabinet has not resonance at all?
Very beautiful and stylish speakers.
awsome job, i have few question ..what speakers have you used and did you put any acoustic isolation foam or other material inside ?
btw what is the geometry of the teardrop midrange enclosure?
high quality of work and nice design, I like that
the nicest looking boxes ever made !
Incredible my friend! ..and why haven't you started your own line!!??
That was a awesome. You did that yourself? What was your cost?
Hi, is it possible to send me the CAD files for this wonderful project?
Very, very good!!!! Spectacular job. Congratulations.
Nice work! How to buy B & W speakers?
Amazing, truly worth the time put in. I love that it looks as good as it sounds (Cause i know it sounds damn good!)
Out of curiosity, how did you acquire the drawings? I own a pair of 802's (not home built however)
god damn that's the most impressive wood working I've ever seen!
That carbon-fiber look was a nice touch :)
Very nice job, are they original drivers?
Ricky Lee no they are motiva
what drivers did you use and how did you build the crossover
Stunning work...good job!
Fantastically well done, what a great talent you've got!
That's amazing, great job! How much did the speakers end up costing you in total (your time not included)?
I don't understand the point to make all the canals inside the enclosure if the thing is all sealed up. Can anyone explain? I hope it's not a noob question :S
this is alot of beautiful hard work
You have that sort of CNC gear in your home?! Hardcore!!
Absolute perfect built Quality
sir good job but everyone can't do it but u have done great work
Did you use original B&W drive units?
Great work! B&W should hire you :D
I think you've overshot "DIY" by about a mile. Very nice
Got to love a clean shop and a CNC!!!!
My Hero .... wow wow wow
you are a mad man ... lol Great job!!!
what patiance .. where did you get the specs for the pieces ?
i'd like to attempt this ..
Most incredible DIY project I have ever seen! :O
Looks wonderful. Congratulations!
Just a box or any modify?
