Thank you for the high praise. I’m so happy that you’re enjoying them.
I'm actually disappointed I didn't rave more now. After setting up room treatment better, I'm even more blown away.
it ironic a youtuber is make a video about another youtubers product. . pretty cool full circle@@DIYhyfy
There are some really good videos out there on speaker construction, but I don't have a CNC machine, so you out there in the parking lot with a jigsaw is refreshing. Never change.
Another great video and they turned out gorgeous! Clean finish and fantastic selection of drivers as well!
Glad to see how that came out! Excellent 👏
These beasts are beautiful. Nice finish!
Thanks for the video. I am so glad that I am subscribed and can follow your projects. These speakers look excellent!
Thanks these were really fun to work on. The bigger size made it easier to work on all the details. I fit inside these, where I can't fit my hand inside some of these others lol
That veneer finish looks amazing! Way better then an automotive finish in my view.
Wow, it looks amazing! Would love to hear a demo! Major props to you for the build quality! Looking forward to watching more content! ☮️🖖🏽
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful job!! I'd go for the unstained plywood look, but I guess that doesn't work in everyone's house. Toids is great.😊
UGGH ALL THAT LOVELY SPEAKER AND such a budget crossover
I'm accepting component donations! JK, thanks for watching!
Great job nicely done!
I was with you all the way through this impressive build... until the drywall screws. T-nuts and machine screws are generally a much better way to go. Cap head machine screws have a very square shoulder that can prevent distortions of the basket. This will also allow for higher clamping pressure of the drive to the cabinet. Overall beautifully done!
Beautiful job 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Uau ficaram lindas! Parabéns👍🏻
Those look great you did a good job building them they look like they came from a retail outlet good job
Thanks!
You know you got a sweet project going on when overspray on your pavers no longer Merrits thought 😂
Excellent build!!
Lol you got me figured out!
Gorgeous, you should have recessed neo Magnets in the back of wood, then magnetic screen to further the class and beauty of those amazing speakers.
Very nice looking result, thanks for sharing. Hope you love the sound of them.
I recently built the No. 1815 speakers from Joseph Crowe (SB Audience drivers as well, 15OB350 and 65CDN-T plus a 600Hz Biradial horn) and am very happy with those drivers.
SB Audience surely knows how to make high efficiency drivers sound good.
Joseph Crowe has some awesome designs. May look at doing some of his soon. Thanks for watching!
gorgeous!
You're a root constructor and I like it! Yeah!
You made it seem easier than Toids diy did. 👍
Sweet! I’ve been waiting for this!
It's here!
Very impressive build. Dope video.
Thanks for watching!
I like these. Husband approved. Love the veneer. The looks are all business. I'm more inclined for a harder red stain. That's me, though. Automotive finish just doesn't look good in a living room. In the game room/theater room/man cave, automotive finish. Been really digging the DYI videos. I've been building speakers for a few decades. Automobile subs and door pods mostly. A few house speakers too. Dropped off the custom. Getting back into it, since newer technologies are getting cheaper. Thank you and all of the DYI content creators for reigniting the fires.
Plenty of work but the result is worth of it!
I built these as well, love them.
Right on! You should post them in Toids forum. Aren't too many pairs of these online.
That veneer looks awesome
It looks like you did a fantastic job with the veneer. However, I would have opted to spray them with paint. Personally, I would like the look better and, in the future, if you wanted to change the color it would be easy enough to respray. Veneer on a rectangle enclosure that big looks vintage and some may prefer that. Good job and thanks for the video.
Nice work on the cabinets and being a cabinet builder I'm sure you can't beat the cherry with any paint unless it's going in a kids room, beautiful choice for finish I just wish you would have let us hear what they sound like, I've been looking for something beyond my KLH A5 but they're just hard to beat
Man these are great & huge value if you are wanting a project. Check out toidsdiyaudio channel. He has a ton of plans for builds like this.
Great build. Nice hairdryer. :-)) You should take a peak at the crossover, only hot glue ain’t sufficient over time. Maybe upgrade the parts at the same time. Keep up the great work and tutorial.
good job,, anda tidak seperti tukang kayu profesional tapi anda bisa menyelesaikanya
Very cool, they looked good in black, and you've shown that wood suits these very well. I can only imagine how big they sound.
What laquer are you using in your sprayer?
Watco
I see you took my advice to cut the veneer with a razor knife, very nice!
Beautiful job building these they look awesome, how are they for music?
To be honest, I will mostly be using them for music. I'm not a huge movie watcher. They are great for music. Maybe, maybe not as much detail as ribbons, but they do so many other things well. It's tough to describe, but ultimately they're awesome. HUGE sound.
Great video, and beautiful job on the speakers!! What made you go with these over the BTS15? Just curious as I'm going to be building some of toids speakers but strictly for home theater use. I haven't been able to listen to either model so i love hearing opinions of why people go with one over the other.
Keep to the great videos!!
The BTS15 are likely a great, if not better option. I have not heard them to compare however. I built these mostly for appearance reasons. I wanted a large horn speaker. The BTS may perform even better than these. He really likes the CD in the BTS. With that said, these sound great, so any improvement would mean an amazing sounding speaker.
After seeing the contrast when you painted the back of it black, I think I would paint the front black with veneer around the sides and top.
I did consider doing a 2 tone like you described. Would have saved some money on veneer. I really wanted the drivers to contrast with the light wood. Thanks for watching!
You could also just bought a pair of JTR Noesis 215 :) Twenty years ago I build a 130 liter closed system, it was so heavy (about 100 kilo's) I could hardly lift it from the ground (from laying on its back to standing up). The baffle was 60 mm MDF.
That sounds HUGE! Thanks for watching!
@@DIYhyfy Thanks, it was based on a 12" Lambda Acoustics SB12 (old brand fom Nick McKinney (rip), who later started working at AE speakers, but passed away much to early). The unit was specialised for sealed enclosure, doing 27 hz at -3db). I only used tons of deuvels and wood glue to build (took me a quite some weekends)
Fantastic video and build. I’m feeling inspired to give the build a try. What center are you planning to pair these monsters with?
Yes go for it! I am running them with no center channel, as I'm running them on a 2.1 amp. If I were to run one, I would build this, oriented on its side, and split the vents. The horn is equal 90° coverage, so it would work out great.
@@DIYhyfyThanks for the response! By splitting the vents, you’re thinking a double port on left and right vs the single bottom in the original vertical build?
I like raptor liner so i would have used that. Cool build, i want to build my own speakers as well. Where do you get crossover build and all other build info along w what speakers etc.
There's a link in description for all the plans. The plans will give you a list of all parts used, dimensions, etc. This designer has a ton of good affordable builds.
Excellent build man. Enjoyed the video. What dampening material did you use? Btw the veneer is stellar!
I used a large mattress topper. Thanks for watching!
Veneer is very clean looking. I would’ve loved to see the automotive though.
First off thanks to you and toids for the inspiration as im now happily following along with my own veneer build 😊. Just something i noticed. Your R2 resistor termination didn't look to match the plans I got. Could be worth a check. 7:29
Congratulations, glad to hear it! I'll check out the resistor!
Great video. Speakers look great. I too would have veneered, good call.
I’m confused by the “port”. There is no “tube” or “chimney” behind the rectangular opening? How is that a tuning port and not just a hole in the baffle?
Hi, thanks for watching! So for the port question, yes it is a port on this case. Because it is tuned rather high, it so happens that the width of the baffle is the length of the port. In most cases where you see a "hole in a box" it is indeed a mistake by someone without an understanding of what a port is/does.
What rms power amplifier could these be matched with?
Nice 👍👍👍👍👍
Cool
For some reason I think of these as the muscle cars of speakers. Lots of raw horsepower, big wide wheels, always ready for some fun... And so loud!
wont be surprised if it costs 2x the sony though, but its the only portable that can drive smth like susvara perfectly
well the 3 with that gold amp prob can too
Any tips on veneering for the first time? Should I do a small practice box first?
Veneer is really pretty simple. Yes it is intimidating, given the price of material. With that said, take your time. If you are nervous, try using the cold press method. Simply use wood glue spead evenly on both surface & clamp. Then take a blade, and cut leaving about 16th-32nd inch, and sand that off by hand. If you have any questions I didn't answer, just let me know.
I think I like the veneer on something that large
Those look amazing. What would you charge for a completed pair of these, over materials/drivers, etc? It'd be really cool if someone sold finished versions of Toid's speakers, in the most basic finish.
Man production work like that would be really challenging. It would need to be a partnership between the designer & builder. Most plans prohibit commercial use. But, I agree, it would be great for buyers to have the option.
Great build and awesome job, the speakers look awesome. What is the estimated cost of these?
I didn't keep a running list, but I would estimate just under $2K. Much less without veneer.
I have made a lot of speakers. Just focus on clamping. No need to do all those Brad nails. Just saving you some time
I like pool, and speakers.
So, you like them for 2 channel music you said. That's what I'm after. Do they work for rock, pop, country? I want some good pounding speakers with clarity.
They are great for music. I would not however choose to build then over other options for music only. My latest coaxial build have better imaging and clarity. The Swans 3.1 are also great for music. The 212s are very dynamic, but don't image as well as smaller speakers.
nice build! What frequency are the ports tuned to?
Dats v3 says 40hz
Are there any video's of a mid size speaker build that has everything? So I don't have to have seperate sub woofers just two speakers with subwoofers built in?
Yes, check out the Epique by Toids DIY Audio. Full range, compact size
I've been trying to get Toids DYI Audio plans but the only place I found was a $15 dollar a month member ship on Patrion. Is that the only option anymore. I want to build his Cinema 6. I have trouble hearing and he said his dad found these speakers easy to hear dialoge.
The link to purchase individual plans is in the description. However Patreon gives you access to all plans, in the highest tier I believe.
Tuyệt vời
Just curious... did you have (or have access to) any speakers that were "good" or at least in the same category as that $14K speaker? If you have any way to do so, how would you compare these to say the JBL L100 or the Klipsch Heresy IV? I'm just trying to get a common frame of reference so I will have a better idea or whether or not I want to try to tackle this build. Thank you!
Hi, unfortunately I've not been able to do direct comparisons like that. I did hear several pairs of Klipsch Heritage models around the time I was building these (by coincidence). These sounded as good as any of the Klipsch. Can't say much about the L100s. Limited experience with them.
@@DIYhyfy Thank you!
Hey diyhyfy. Nice to meet you. Herd about you from toids channel, so everyone makes these jtr style speakers. Yes they will work great in a large room but i am thinking as a beginner speaker building what about a 7 inch or 8 inch version with a horn? I just recently had to cell my klipsch rf5’s and i had the beloved klipsch rc7 which i want to make myself which has a 1.75 compression driver and 4:57 duel 7” subs and its a 2.5 way crossover. I know i can make them better but i am having trouble choosing drivers and still learning. I was wondering what you or toids might recommend for drivers and how to match a 7” or 8” driver with a high output compression driver that says its about 105 spl 1 watt 1 meter. Thanks if you see this question and would love to see you guys build the klipsch rc7 and make it both a center then match vertical. I have a 15 x 12 room and the klipsch rp 160’s are just not doing the output like my rf’s and rc7 was.
Hi, it's tough to give you ideas for driver selection. My advice would be to look for a kit that suits your needs. There are a TON to choose from.
Or if you decide to build your own, you'll need to read about driver selection, impedance, xover design, horn types. Really depends how much work you have time for. Thanks for watching!
@@DIYhyfy understood on info above! I”ll start reading and kits. Thanks.
Would love a demo listening of these. Also please buy respirator your lungs will thank you. Great work
I just built the other speakers I saw u build. But now I wanna build these. They are from toids audio I believe correct? Anyway do u have to pay for the plans?
Yes, they are for purchase. I believe they are $10-20 usd. We'll worth the money in my opinion. What did you build before?
Where did you buy the acoustic treatment foam?
It's a Walmart mattress topper. You can find them in varying thickness & they're cheap!
I'd have gone black maybe not gloss but a semi black paint think that would have looked awesome. these look super impressive though.
Yea it'd be hard to make these look bad. I do want to ultimately do some automotive paint on something soon.
Really nice job! :)
But in the last minutes of the video (it's really hard to see) it looks like one of the H250 horns is turned with the 60deg direction mounted sideways. The H250's are 60x90 horns, and for almost all applications except really complex beamsteering in systems 10-20x larger than this, you really want the 90deg spread sideways and the 60deg spread vertically... This does of course depend on exactly what you're trying to achieve with room interaction and so on, and I also might be totally wrong about what I see :) !!
Hey, looking on SB Audience's site it shows the 250 to be 90°x90°
I may be missing something, but it shows coverage equally on both axis.
It seems linking directly to a manufacturer gets the reply deleted, but I linked the actual product page on the official SBA website. Never trust 3d party retailers to get it right. AFAIK SBA has never had a different version of this horn either @@DIYhyfy
The SBA site specifically says 90x60, on the product page AND in the product pdf. The product page also includes polars for x and y, which show quite a lot of difference in radiation pattern. So I have no idea where you're looking if you see 90x90...? @@DIYhyfy
What would the layout have been to use as a center channel?
You could lay on their side, and split the port to either side. This would work well as a center channel. Someone online has done this with success.
@sicilianbambino Hmm...."Someone" is Schurter -- "Center channel will be horizontal ( under my screen ) inspired buy the Audience 212 build By Toids." Just google: JTR 212HT Clone Build (starting page 2) of avsforum. 😉
Veneer is more traditional, but unlike Veneer, an automotive finish is far easier to repair after the movers wreak them in transit.
Good thing I'm in the moving business!
Question, How much did those things weigh??? I mean seeing that you needed a dolly to move them. What are the dimensions because they look super tall?
It's tough to say exactly. They're 58" tall if I remember correctly. You have to bear hug them to move around. They're probably around 150lbs or so
@@DIYhyfy 😳 YIKES!!! Those won't be getting moved around much. Lol
But cool thanks for the response.
They look very similar to HSU’s I’ve owned for over a decade.
how many watts can each handle? 8 ohms correct?
Where they max out, I would need to do some math. I'm definitely not sending them more than 50 watts or so on average.
Can i ask where you got that veneer?
Yes I ordered from Parts Express. I would have normally looked for a better option, but I was in a hurry.
When can i stop by to listen to them
Build them lol you'll be able to listen every day!
I just bought an rectangular caaket and cut the holes out.
Nice build... A little constructive critique.. you shouldn't use water based sealers or paints on MDF ever... It causes the MDF to swell. You will get much better results using shellac. it also dries completely in minutes allowing for multiple coats to be applied very quickly. it seals the MDF and hardens the surface. Two coats of shellac with a light sanding in between..
Thanks, you're not wrong. I had that on hand, but almost immediately regretted using it. I would much prefer veneer directly on to mdf. However my original plan was to paint these. Never the less I'll be using shellac instead next go around. Thanks for watching!
I love veneer but I'm not a fan of Oak. Oak reminds me of every old house I've ever been in and those memories come with a smell.
stay out of old peoples homes
Sound test ?
Perhaps on the next build I'll do a quick sound demo for those who have asked.
@@DIYhyfy would be awesome, thanks in advance
Mmmmm, what kind of amplyfer those THINGS need???? 😁
They actually don't need too much power to get loud. I believe most, if not all home theater recievers would drive them with no sweat.
More like, "Building Hi-Fi Speakers that will crush my children".
Or my CATS!!
Why does nobody else seal/ prime the inside of the box prior to assembly? Am I the only one?
What would be the benefit?
Hey diyhyfy. Nice to meet you. Herd about you from
JBL K2 S5800
Wow, they do look alike!
3-5" deep for better bass
What dimension are you referring to?
@@DIYhyfy more to the back more deep cabinet
You made karaoke or P.A. Speakers
I love karaoke 🎤
Brother you need protection from all that dust.
I know, can't believe I took my mask off :/ I will try harder going forward!
Mask up buddy! MDF dust is bad for your lungs. Even if outside / in a well ventilated space
Bought a good respirator last week. Sorry I waited so long!
🫵✋️
Not a fan of butt joints .
Biscuits, dowels, even tongue and groove are pretty easy and make assembly and glue-up easier and more accurate.
You're probably right. I may use some of those methods in the future. Thanks for watching!
Damn those look incredible. Great video.
These were speaker not woofer
Oh
Beautiful speakers, but it was shameful that there wasn't even a minute of listening to these babies
Thanks! Unfortunately I don't have a mic that would do these justice for playback.
these are not endgame speakers jesees
Lol okay
For some they might be. Stop the hate bro.
@@PaulTardino he should change the title too building Great home speakers. its misleading its simply not End game I bet they sound ok but not end game ok
The only appropriate use for a cotton mask, dust.
Can i pay you to build me 3 of these? I can give you my email and touch base there
I'm flattered that you would ask. Unfortunately, I'm consumed with running my business and now doing youtube. Hopefully, in the future, I will be able to offer fully built speakers to those who would like them.
@@DIYhyfy I mean I can pay u to make it within a monthly time frame I plan to buy 3 so maybe make 1 every 4-8 months I won't mind waiting that long if that's something you can realistically do
Wasted all this time and did not get to hear the speakers
Sorry!
Kids love their way overused catch words, like today it's a ton of this and a ton of that, and everything is a ton, ton, ton.
That's a TON of tons
