This is so cute, I just sat down saying to the Lord ,I am so tired today, feeling a little guilty, picking up my iPad and there where you! Saying the very thing I needed! And it felt OK! Last year I lost my husband of 45 years, and life just became stressful, anxious and unreal… I m very much creative in many ways, now I can’t think a creative thought!! Bought myself a weedwacker today, learning how to use it, not fun!! But it makes me feel in order, the rain made everything look like a jungle…I am surprised that I don’t feel a creative urge in any way,it’s been just too overwhelming! Off and on I feel afraid that I will never again be creative. But I was glad to hear you say don’t beat yourself up! 😊 thank you

I’m so sorry for your loss. I can really relate. I lost my husband of 49 years in 2014. It was a life changing event in so many ways. One thing I learned was that while I had numerous things I had to start doing myself, it was very empowering once I learned a new “skill!” You can too. ❤

One thing I have learned is to not set too many goals or schedules. Nothing can burn out.....say artistic creativity and inspiration than pressuring yourself. Just do things when you feel inspired. Schedules are for jobs, not art. I say let yourself relax and wait until you feel the need to create.

This hits really close to home for me. I retired in 2008, at the age of 52, thanks to a lucrative offer from my employer to retire early. Needing something to fill my time, I took up photography. I bought a DSLR and a boatload of other gear and set out to learn photography. It was hit and miss on getting out to take pictures for the first year or so. I decided the only way to learn my camera was to shoot every day. And to be sure I did it every day, I needed to be accountable in some way. So, I started a photography blog. I figured my Mom would be the only one who would read it and look at my images every day. I started on January 1, 2010. I posted for 1355 days. The first 1247 posts were on consecutive days. The rest were scattered dates until October 1, 2015. At that point, I was done and put up the photography gear and didn’t pick it up again. For every hour of shooting, there were 3-4 hours of culling, post-processing, and blog writing. I lost the love of photography. I moved my gear from Illinois to Arkansas and back to Illinois again. My son sold my stuff last year for me because it bothered me to have it around. That whole decluttering thing, you know. All that being said, I get it. I wonder if I had taken a break, if I would have continued to have an interest in photography. I doubt that I would. It took up way too much of my time. And now, I don’t even look at those images that I took or read the blog. They come up on my Facebook memories from time to time. It’s all just out there in the ether and on several drives that are in a file cabinet, because you know you need three backups. ❤️

It is so easy to get sort of sucked into the responsibility of keeping up with old goals and hobbies. There is like this feeling of guilt because you used to love it, or you've invested so much time and money. But the truth is, the hobby or goal brought you to a new place; call it a courier of sorts. You get to explore this new place, and maybe that means letting go of what brought you to it.

😊 I was forced to take a break when I came down with a bad respiratory illness a couple of weeks ago. While I have been cursing the weeks of recovery, the forced break has put me in touch with how I want to improve the quality of my routine and focus on a slower and more savouring pace of life. I am grateful for the time to rethink things. Enjoy your break!

Your break is well deserved. It's as you say, you love your hobbies but if you're not enjoying what you love, can make you dislike it, in that case taking a break is healthy. That happens to me with hand sewing which I really love, when I am not enjoying it, I stop for some time. I get your point very well!😊

That ten-hour drive was a great video. You made lots of nice shots in that one for sure. I really liked the one in Chattanooga with the super ultra wide too. I stopped exporting all of my photos and painstakingly entering the settings in each one and that has reduced the time it takes for me to make a photography video by at least an hour. Now I just do a lightroom screen recording, which is so much easier. No one has complained. Win! Of course, I still make sure the settings are known for each image. These days, if I start shooting early enough and more importantly, stop shooting early enough, I can complete a photography video by 1pm. My goal is to always be done by 5. Of course, I don't have to also make a Life in Motion Diaries video that day! Now I'm starting to think about where I'm going, and what I'm using for when I get to do photography Thursday morning! :)

Love your comments about taking breaks. Also, really enjoyed your photography channel post. I could feel your passion as I watched your photo road trip and really liked most of the photos that you took. What struck me about the small towns were the sparse landscapes and empty closed down businesses. The interesting architectural or lack thereof details of buildings, windows, and doors always pique my interest too. I also recognized the enjoyment you found in taking that long ride back. Awesome. Good reminder here on taking breaks.🙂

That’s a fantastic reminder! When I was younger, probably before I turned 30, I learned to say no! No to things I just didn’t want to do any more or didn’t in the first place but an organization tried to commit you to things without even asking. Then there was pausing from bad habits one was shopping every week…I didn’t always buy things but still. Then there was going with other peoples flow of spontaneity just doing things whenever the urge lead them…I had to learn to start taking a break from doing things all the time. So, this was a fresh look into just taking a break and I have always found it to be helpful and a blessing to do so as well. Thank you for the reminder and I am so happy for you that you did it! Thank you for all your wisdom! I love your content. ❤

there is nothing wrong with stopping and having revaluation of life. I lost my job nov 2012, unemployment said i couldnt work the way i was (using a cane=beginning arthritis) started disability process. was put on full disability by june 2013. spent a day each week meet friend for coffee, now shes full dementia. and pandemic hit. i was getting illnesses. im improving now. but a hand ful of people keep saying get out, take a class, they dont understand my immune system isnt up to that. i lost a neighbor, 2 cousins, my brother, then sis went through major surgery, cousin went through major surgery. after each event i got majot infections. so i spend time at apt. doing some minor gardening, and walking up and down the street. im ok with that.

People are overwhelmed and pressured to the max.
I often wondered how and why you put this on yourself. I would have chosen the even and odd plan lol
I follow the theory in life, you can have your desires but it's not meant to have them all at once.
You like me are 65 and life at our age is about quality not quantity.
You gave it a try and now you are reprogramming.

I haven’t heard anyone use the phrase “Messiah complex” for a long time. Not that that necessarily applies to you, Tim. Hopefully not. But we humans like to think we can fix everything, solve everything, take care of everything and we can’t. Self induced stress when we try.
