Idk about anyone else but I wanna hear James Talk about Load in extensive detail. It’s just an interesting period that we don’t know the thought process behind as much as most of the other albums.
James if for some 1in a million chance you read this, I was one of those that bitched when One the video came out, and the Black album. That said I wasn't upset about the musical change I , and many many others, were scared because you were "our" band! We were by your side thru hell or high water from day one and it was lame AF when done techno fruit was walking around with the metal sign in the air screaming Metallica, and had no idea what Master of Puppets sounded like, or who Cliff Burton was! You were where we went to get through shit, where we went to get through troubles and where I went for endless musical inspiration as I learned the drums starting in 85 st age 11. First concert, AJFA tour, and then all of a sudden "our little secret" was no more ours and it took a bit to accept. We never waivered tho, I think true fans of yours never did, who knows, maybe but, it just took a minute to adjust. Man I love Metallica, and I can't believe 37 years ago I listened to you for the first time and it changed my life forever. It's insane to think that the biggest change in my life came from music. Jam on brother!

Talking about love of fans: there are people who love not just the music, but also those who play it, James in this case, and for no obvious reason at all.
7:02 Yes.. James told it like it is.. They had the people in the band because they were good, not because of their color or ethnicity 👍 No virtue signaling 💯
Good interview! When you mentioned the name Swizz Beatz I wonder if that Metallica song with Ja Rule, which happens to be on Swizz Beatz' first album, crossed James' mind. It clearly crossed mine ("Swizz is the guy behind the Ja Rule & Metallica song, James!"). Haha
Papa Het man oh man how he's inspired me in the almost 30 years I've been a fan of Metallica. His lyrics transcend in to the type of heaviness that you cannot get through music alone. My son was born as I sang along to The Outlaw Torn from S&M and that song become so much more than just a song I enjoyed. It's the first song my now 5 year old and I listened to together after he came into this world, it's his intro song 😁 I could write a book so I'll just end with a big thank you to Metallica for the memories that include 12 years a vagabond searching for the right band for me. I walked many many miles to Metallica and Wherever I may roam from live sh.t is my life's theme song. I can't wait to take my son to his first Metallica show as it'll also be my first show as well. Man. 30 years ago I owned the world. Well... I owned my own little part of it. I mean... I didn''t own it per say, I just... It was more like renting. But... Instead of the 'world', it was more like an apartment. And I drove a car I paid 115 dollars for. It was quite the chick magnet. Or repellant. Whatever. The Black Album was brilliant. Especially after albums like Master of Puppets. It actually had songs on it that we could play. Any guitarist can learn Sandman. But not Battery. Wherever I May Roam. But not Damage Inc. I think it opened up a whole new fan base of young guitarists who finally had songs they could learn to play that wasn't Smoke on the Water.
You're absolutely right. I only wished I could play as fast as Kirk but I didn't have the patience to learn guitar (also didn't have a guitar). But I did figure out how to keep rhythm on drums by listening to "Nothing Else Matters" on repeat.
Hard core fans also remember, when that changes for whatever or whenever in the band, disillusion and betrayal its felt naturally by fans without acknowledging your change of heart to them.
