      Sounds like a good idea to me. My 4Runner now has a rear locker in addition to the center diff locker. I'm crawling up rocks much easier now.

    Nice 4Runners! I bi-passed Hurricane Creek while driving the TransAmerica Trail through western NC last year (took the longer, easier way around in my '98 T4R since I wasn't with a group), but that whole area is beautiful to drive through. Didn't make it to www2023 but hope to next year.

      Thanks so much. These old 3rd Gens rule! This was our first time doing Hurricane Creek. It is definitely a trail to go on next time you're in the area. The scenery is pretty cool. Takes about 3 hours start to finish. WWW23 was a great experience. We're hoping to get back to Windrock in 2024.

    Third Gen 4Runner owner myself. Enjoyed the video. Ive ridden same trail several times but not with as beautiful scenery. Thanks for taking us along!
    Did I spy a GMRS antenna on the hood? I'm curious as to how you ran the wire. I'm considering adding a GMRS radio.

      Hey, yeah we got lucky to run the trail during snowy conditions. That was a fun time. I do have a Midland MXT275 radio for communicating with my buddies while on the trails. The antenna wire runs through the firewall rubber seal near the left side of the steering column. You can remove the connector on the antenna wire to make the wire skinny enough to fit through the firewall rubber seal. The MXT275 works perfectly with the Midland MXTA27 (hood mount with antenna wire) and the MXTA25 3DB gain ghost antenna). Not very expensive. Amazon!

    Nice Vid's and Concur on TP. Try modulating brakes with throttle over obstacles, gunning like that will only break parts, no one wants broken parts deep in the woods. Wheres the custom grill from on Wide Track 4runner??

    • @Wuffpacker
      @Wuffpacker  Рік тому

      Thanks the brake modulating tip. I'm sure that would enhance my off road skills. The TP issue was intentional, but not wise. We aired up when leaving Windrock (three days at WWW23) and didn't take the time to air back down when we got to Hurricane Creek Trail. The idea was to do a quick run on the creek trail on way back to Raleigh. Got a little lazy! The wide track 4Runner belongs to Miles Eubanks. His grill was painted to match the truck paint color. Go to TEQcustoms.com to check out options. You can reach Miles at TEQcustoms@gmail.com. Many thanks for watching vids on the channel!

    Definitely want to hit this trail as well. Only 1 hr for me to get to that trail. On the big deep rutted out section, how wide is that rut. I am pushing 84” wide. Hopefully I will fit or may have to ride up on one of the sides. 🤷‍♂ By comparison do you know how wide you 4runner is (outside tire width)?

    • @Wuffpacker
      @Wuffpacker  7 місяців тому

      The 4Runner is around 70 inches wide counting the tires. On this trip in 2023, my buddy was ahead of me in a full size Tundra with 37s. He did fine on the trail. Not sure how wide that rutted out spot is. There's a drop off to the right side. On this trip, we got lazy and didn't air down the tires. Reason is, we were tired out after wheeling 3 straight days at Windrock. We did the Hurricane Creek Trail on way back to Raleigh. Airing the tires down would have made Hurricane Creek a little easier. Have fun on them trails.

    • @redbeastadventures
      @redbeastadventures 7 місяців тому

      @@Wuffpacker If that Tundra fit, I can certainly fit as well. About the same width as the Tundra with 3” longer wheelbase and 5” longer overall comparatively.

    Do they have rear or center differential lockers?

    • @Wuffpacker
      @Wuffpacker  Рік тому

      My 2002 Limited has the center diff lock option. This is the one with the black grill. Miles' 4Runner has a rear locker along with a brand new long travel suspension. His truck has the silver grill.

      The hood visor is made by Auto Ventshade (AVS). Thanks for your inquiry.

    We’re u guys in 4 low or high the whole time?

    • @Wuffpacker
      @Wuffpacker  Рік тому +1

      We're running in 4 low most of the time. Much of this trail could be easily traveled with 4 high. I found using 4 low keeps the transmission temperature cooler, especially when climbing hills.

      I was wondering how long it would take for someone to notice we were rolling with full tire pressure. We just aired up after leaving Windrock (WWW). Got to Hurricane Creek Trail and fell victim to laziness on the airing down task. There are about 4 tricky spots on this trail that would have been better with lower tire pressure.
