I have one of these 100w heads with a 1960a cab and its a pretty amazing setup. Would recommend
For those of you that consider buying this amp... It is great IF you have an attenuator plugged in.
Not being able to crank the volume in your appartment is the biggest issue you will have with this amp... An attenuator will really reveal the true and awesome tones it can have since it will soak a cranked amp before sending the signal to the speaker.
Sure sounds better than any code i've heard.
Lot's of people complaining about hybrid amps without trying them. I made a A/B comparison between this JMD and a DSL100 and there was almost no difference except for the DSL had more bottom end. This amp is organic and smooth as a "real all tube amp", just play it with the right speakers, just as you do with any other amp. It has the best sound I ever heard from a digital interface, definitely better than my SpiderValve112 and my Fractal Axe FXII. Marshall is doing in it right tone snobs!!!
I'm a lefty myself, playing a Gibson Les Paul Standard Premium Plus 2012. Just got this amp to go with it, love it so far :)

That amp is killer.. A midi programmable tube head.. That's what I'm talking about! :))
What would be the main difference with the Vintage Modern and the JMD1 or 501? (a side from all the effects..) Tube wise since it's a mix of valve and thechnologie, do you have less tone'' than the Vintage modern? Is the overdrive preamp from the valves or is that where it comes short to the VM?

You get more Metal for the price with the JMD1 because of the JVM410H simulations & the old JMP-1 electronic preamp. You can go Death Metal & Trash. To do the same thing with the Vintage Modern, you would need to try all sort of pedals used as Preamps. And you don't have all of the included effects either.
I'm seeing a used Marshall JMD1 102 which is the 100W 2X12 combo version with foot-switch included for 750$CDN which is a steal, but it's waayyyyy too loud. I would need a quality attenuator that would cost more than the amp itself. Something sturdy like the Waza Amp Expender. Guess it's waiting for another owner than me who has a garage or a country house. :¨(

I have this amp. I didn't like it at first but it got better as it broke in of course. I swapped out the speaker for an Eminence Governor and it made a world of difference. I own a few high end amp..I won't compare it to them as there is no comparison between digital and true tube. Only an idiot would. BUT for a digital / hybrid amp, its the best sounding and feeling that I have tried. If you want to hear my video just search JMD 501 with Governor speaker. Its just goofing around.

You won't find many of these around, especially the 102. It's not the best by far, but, it's very usable.

Actually is a pretty Good Amp! At first you have to get te trick of it! but if you know how to control it you can get awesome sounds of this amp!! ;)

I personally don't like the standard 1960a cab, it's to harsh sounding to my ears. Every marshall I've tried, sounds awesome through my JVM 2x12 extension cab, loaded with v30's and Heritage.
what about gettin the head version and playing thru a 1960a cab?

What is this amp's track record in terms of reliability? I found a seemingly great deal locally, but are these a pain in the butt to maintain?
