@@justagirl8054 As he was responding to the accident, his rig parked on the westbound side of the bridge, the accident was on the eastbound side. While he was crossing the highway to get to the victims and over the barriers, he either slipped or did not realize there was a 3 foot gap between the barriers and fell to the ground below. The irony of this is the victim of the accident and he were co-workers at the airport before he joined the FDNY and the victim joined a PD (not sure which branch, NY, PA or otherwise in New York). My sincerest heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends and loved ones

What did that Battalion Chief say at approximately 01:48 on the audio. Was it what I thought he said.

      Have you ever done it?
The smaller amount of fatalities compared to the other occupational activities are a testimonial to the amount of training which is instilled into each firefighter.
You’re perspective is skewed because of limited knowledge of what really transpires.
Are you mad that your tax dollars are being used to pay for the facility which firefighters utilize before they run out to put their lives on the line.?

99% low risk medical calls my ass, have some respect for what we do. You’re figures are false and inaccurate, it sounds like you have a gripe or a grudge, otherwise why would you put forth figures which aren’t accurate and true.
Perhaps if you’re referring to EMS maybe, but yes they also put their lives on the line every time the don the uniform.

CAUSE >>>> There is a huge at least 3 foot wide continuous gap between these two bridges, yes I d=said 2 bridges that we're built side by side next to but NOT joining each other ! ! ! ......this big 'gap' is so obvious to anyone building that dam bridges that is virtually criminal to let that gap exist...... At night any stranded motorist would go over the short pony wall thinking they are going to step onto the other side and literally fall 4 stories down through the un-seen gap = 5 to 10 million payout to his heartbroken family + firing the supervisors of the projects

Realy .... You take it there.... Bridges are Engineered a certain way for reasons. Their are hundreds of bridges like that all over the upper east coast. It is not a payday for his family it is a tragic event and no more. Wow some people .. RIP Brother .... LFD FD E 1762

Stranded motorist? Put your flashers on and don’t get out of the vehicle.
Hopping over the jersey barrier for what? That’s oncoming traffic. Not recommended.
Should there be some sort of safety netting to prevent a fall to the area below? It would have been wonderful to have in retrospect if it had saved FF Pollards life.
Hopefully lessons learned from this tragedy can be used in the future to prevent another incident of this type.
Rest In Peace FF Pollard, condolences to your relatives, friends, and FF brotherhood.

Douglas White Yeah....he takes it there. The Verrazano has a gap similar to this and it’s covered. Any bridge that has a gap like this should be covered. With something. Anything. Bridges that “flex” can still be Guarded with something to cover a gap. This was already stated that this was an oversight in safety by third party safety engineers.
